Game Theory: The True Identity of Traum's Sengoku Archer!?

reddit comments Commentary:
No, I’m not talking about Detective Ikeda Sen from Return to Shironaga Island.
This is my own little theory as to who the unnamed but still important enough to get a unique portrait Archer in Traum is. Namely, that it’s Nagayoshi’s IRL waifu!
She’s been mentioned on here before in the FGO community by u/10gn and u/wep_wawet in these posts.
The big “clues” are that she’s a riflewoman from the Sengoku period, which given how Fate will throw a genderbend curveball every now and then might not mean much, and that she’s apparently a Buddhist nun. Both criteria fit Ikeda Sen very nicely.
Ikeda Sen was born around 1563 to the Ikeda Clan. She was educated to a high standard and trained in martial arts.
Unusually for a woman at the time, she also became well-versed with firearms, particularly the “Tanegashima” arquebus which was highly favored by teppogumi (gun units).
Sen would eventually lead a Teppō unit of her own consisting of 200 female musketeers.
When precisely she was married to Mori Nagayoshi isn’t clear, but it had to have happened sometime between 1574 (assuming everyone involved waited for at least one of them to turn 16, the average marrying age during the Sengoku period) and 1584.
There’s even less to go on in regards to the state of their union, but Nagayoshi was on good enough terms with the Ikedas (Sen’s father didn’t like him though) to be a frequent ally to them during campaigns.
Ikeda Sen and many of her family members have the distinction of filling out the Great Uniter bingo card of the Sengoku Era, as they fought for and against each of the major administrations associated with Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu (if not the men themselves).
Sen might have fought to avenge Oda Nobunaga under the banner of Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the Battle of Yamazaki against Akechi Mitsuhide’s forces. This is somewhat in dispute, but there are anecdotes claiming she did, and some evidence that she at least tried to volunteer for that army.
Ikeda Sen’s next major theater of combat was the Battle of Shizugatake between Hideyoshi and Shibata Katsuie, wherein the Ikedas sided with the former and lay siege to Gifu Castle.
The Battle of Komaki and Nagakute was next, the historic clash between Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu (well, technically Oda Nobukatsu). With the Ikeda Clan fighting for Hideyoshi once again, Sen’s father Tsuneoki devised a plan to outflank the Tokugawa forces to attack Ieyasu’s stronghold at Okazaki Castle directly.
Unfortunately for the Ikedas, the movements of their 6000-strong would-be siege force did not go unnoticed, and they were eventually boxed in by pursuing Tokugawa armies.
By the time the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute ended in a peace agreement between the two lords after much back-and-forth in military advantage over several months, both Sen’s father Tsuneoki and her husband Nagayoshi had fallen in battle.
Nagayohsi and Sen had no children.
Eventually, Sen remarried. This time to Toyotomi daimyo Nakamura Kazuuji. They had two children together, including the future first lord of Yonago Domain.
Kazuuji would leave Sen as a widow once more upon his death in the August of 1600.
Afterwards, the now 37(?)-year old Sen became a Buddhist nun.
This peaceful transition did not last as the Battle of Sekigahara flared up just a couple of months afterwards in October of that same year.
There are possibly apocryphal sources that claim Sen picked up her old gear and entered the fray alongside the rest of the Ikeda Clan, this time fighting for the Tokugawa faction.
I really want this to be true, because the image of her being approached to come out of retirement to fight in this battle, only for her to say “no” before deciding to say “yes” and reassembling her old squad is just Hollywood in the best way possible to me.
This might seem unlikely, given that Ieyasu’s armies killed both Sen’s father and first husband for what was ultimately an interim conflict with dubious gains.
On the other hand, Ishida Mitsunari had a bad habit of burning the bridges his regent had built and alienating allies on his side of the shore. So the Ikedas ditching him out of spite is rather probable.
There were records of Sen’s life written as late as 1640, making it likely that she lived for more than 80 years.
As to the reality and fantasy of Ikeda Sen’s military career and the 200 other gunwomen at her side, there is a strong article of evidence that indicates that at least some of it happened: rice.
“Rice Wages” (or koku) to be exact, an estimate based on the total economic yield of a person’s land. By the reckoning of 1650 Japan, the country was assessed at 26 million koku.
For her various exploits both in combat and politics, Sen was awarded 10,000 koku on record. Not an astronomical sum (the Shogun directly controlled 4.2 million koku and a person of interest being given over a 100,000 koku wasn’t unheard of), but it was approximately the amount a castellan or even a daimyo would possess.
Now this rifle-toting lady could be, if she’s supposed to be anyone, Tachibana Ginchiyo, Yoshioka Myorin-ni, or Enkyū Myōgetsu, Women in the Sengoku period who fit the criteria (a strong association with firearms and Buddhism).
She also doesn’t show up in Nagayoshi’s GUDAGUDA chronicle chapter. So who knows?
I just thought it’d be cute if it was Sen. She and Nagayoshi could form a nice comedic (if not romantic) couple in Chaldea. They’re both auburn-headed, they both got them psycho gold eyes, that rugged charm, the big chests, and they’d have a classic melee/far-range complimentary skill set.
She could even show preferential treatment to Ranmaru just to annoy Nagayoshi when she’s feeling cross with him.
Maybe it’s just the hopeless romantic in me.
But hey! That’s just a theory. A Game Theory (minus the NFT-parsing and milk machine smell).

More Samurai Warriors 5 character reveals.
Takenaka Hanbei, Kuroda Kanbei, Nakamura Kazu’uji, Sena (Tsukiyama-dono), and Yamanaka Shikanosuke
Kanbei and Hanbei looks pretty close to their SW 1-4 appearance. That is nice. Kanbei looks less dead, though. Kanbei’s amulets turn into shikigami, somewhat similar to Oichi’s origami weapons.
Not much is know about Nakamura Kazu’uji’s background. As he is recorded as part of one of the 53 clans of Koga, in the game he is portrayed to be a Koga ninja who is friends with Mitsuki.
Sena or Tsukiyama-dono is Ieyasu’s wife. The description says she doesn’t treat Ieyasu well, but that’s just per the usual.
Yamanaka Shikanosuke is a rather interesting addition. According to the description, he met Mitsuhide when under invasion from the Mouri (I’m not sure how this is supposed to work). Mitsuhide then helps him to rebuild the Amago clan.
So with this we officially have characters who aren’t supposed to be involved until, historically, the 1570s. Makes one wonder how the game will run the narrative. With the previous titles, since it’s per-character or per-clan basis, it’s fine to have narrative spanning multiple decades apart. With the new one... we don’t know yet, I guess.
I’m not entirely sure what the Mitsuhide-Shikanosuke angle is supposed to be about. Word has it, Nobunaga actually came to assist the Mouri per Motonari’s request to fight against the Amago remnants in 1569. Yes, really. When Motonari was alive, apparently the Oda are on good terms with the Mouri. Maybe Mitsuhide here is supposed to be part of the Oda army sent to the Western territories.

Mitsuki
from Samurai Warriors 5 (her mentor, Kazuuji Nakamura, in the bottom right)
After a seven year pause in games, Samurai Warriors 5 is out and it features a new kunoichi (female ninja) character - Mitsuki.  You can tell she’s a kunoichi  because she’s dressed like she’s from a ninja gaiden game.  For those not aware, Ninja Gaiden is set in 1980s USA and Samurai Warriors is set in Sengoku Period (1467 - 1615) Japan.
Sadly this is an improvement for the series.
Now the thing with the Sengoku Period is that it is an area of history where we have some good evidence of female professional warriors (onna-musha) being around (though their role has historically been downplayed and so the specifics are unclear) and we have some artwork depicting what they might have looked like...  unsurprisingly the armour they wore was the same as the men’s.
When not in armour, they are understood to have worn clothes typical of feudal Japan... basically the opposite of this outfit.
Tumblr media
So... how can this be an improvement?  Well from Samurai Warriors 1 - 4 the equivalent character was a kunoichi who’s name is... Kunoichi and is... *checks notes* apparently fifteen years old...
Tumblr media
And, again... I want to stress... there are real women from his era with artistic depictions of them available, so for a game where most of the cast are historical figures... this is um... well I don’t need to tell you.
I didn’t say it was a big improvement... or one worth congratulating them on, but it is at least a very minor improvement... very, very minor.
Tumblr media
Very, very, very minor.

My personal SW5 impressions of characters after playing the game once (plus some lol)
note: I’m talking about all of them as characters in a video game.
----
Nobunaga - ngl I love him. I feel his depiction might become a bit controversial among fans, but as a story it’s great imho.
Mitsuhide - I love him too lol deep down he’s pretty similar to his SW4 counterpart, but he also isn’t. He made different choices, and there are different settings (i.e. Akechi castle being burned down and his whole family dying) that made a difference, and then there’s his relationship with Nobunaga [but it isn’t just Nobunaga who influences Mitsuhide]
Hideyoshi - he’s such a fun character. It’s always a hit or miss with Hideyoshi and me in various media, and I admit i wasn’t a big fan of some parts of SW4 Hideyoshi, but this younger version who is all about making it big and becoming a powerful daimyou is refreshing and fun. There’s some rivalry between him and Mitsuhide (mostly one-sided), and respect for Ieyasu. The Hashiba group (Hideyoshi, Hanbei, Kazuuji, Kanbei) are very warm and almost family-like
Ieyasu - he’s also a nice character. I liked SW4 Ieyasu and the Tokugawa clan a lot, and you can still feel the bonds here as well. He’s very, not serious, but he knows he’s not good enough and he works really hard to become a good samurai. He’s very loyal to Nobunaga, and he’s like a puppy around him. It’s cute.
Imagawa Yoshimoto - he’s pretty much there only to be a villain
Shingen - I was never particularly interested in Shingen (and Takeda clan and Sanada clan as a whole in SW4) so having Shingen as the enemy officer only is like shrug (he’s fun in the Uesugi vs Takeda stage in Mitsuhide’s chapter, but his presence isn’t strong overall, I know there’s one Ieyasu stage where Takeda are with them but I forgot what it’s about)
Kenshin - LOL this time Kenshin got some Kanetsugu’s characterization so he’s very loud, very opinionated, and all about righteousness, which isn’t GI this time but TADASHIKI. At the moment, he’s a bit annoying (but I also felt that way about SW4 Kanetsugu at the beginning, and he’s among my faves now, so...)
Mouri Motonari - he’s also there to be a villain and he does it well. He’s not a nice grandfather, he’s dark and shrewd, and it’s very different from SW4.
Azai Nagamasa - he’s different, I’m still not sure if in a good or bad way
Matsunaga Hisahide - he’s fun lol (I mean I liked his SW4 version, and I like his SW5′s one too) He’s not really a joke character anymore, and he’s VERY interested in Mitsuhide. I’m glad he stayed as a playable character.
Nouhime - (no one calls her Nouhime lol ETA: Sena does) she is a great character but unfortunately her ‘screen time’ is way too short. Her interactions are mostly limited to Nobunaga, but I guess I just need to trigger more in battle dialogues. I like what they did with her in the IF stories.
Mitsuki - she was such a delightful surprise. She’s written well, and I really like her story, and also her involvement in Nobunaga and Mitsuhide’s story
Toshiie - he’s pretty much the same as in SW4, he’s Nobunaga’s childhood friend and just follows whatever Nobunaga orders, without questioning it much (the furthest he went was before Hiei-zan, but nothing really came from it anyway). He has bigger role during the early chapters, after Mitsuhide joins Nobunaga, Nobunaga apparently forgets he already had a BFF? idk lol
Katsuie - he became more handsome, but at the core, he’s pretty much the same Katsuie too. But this time they decided to make Katsuie loyal primarily to Oichi and make him her bodyguard (probably to avoid any potential creepiness considering Oichi’s age this time). Toshiie and Katsuie don’t really have any familial relationship, and Hideyoshi calls him “danna” lol
Oichi - she’s a... child, basically (and I did like the mother-like figure in SW4, especially in SW4-2), but she keeps growing on me.
Saitou Toshimitsu - he’s extremely loyal to Mitsuhide and he follows him no matter what. They have a nice lord/vassal relationship very different from all lord/vassal relationships that were in SW4, so it’s refreshing
Yamanaka Shikanosuke - he’s a great character, he’s friends with Mitsuhide, and they both swore under the moon to become stronger, so they could protect those who were important to them, and that promise made them move forward. It’s a great friendship, but tragic. (as everything in this stupid game is) Although, I admit that at this time, more than his relationship with Mitsuhide, I’m more interested in his relationship with Mori Motonari and Kobayakawa Takakage.
Hanbei - omg I love this version of Hanbei a LOT. I feel like in SW4 he wasn’t around that much, and when he was I just focused more on Kanbei, but do I love him in SW5. His characterization is basically the same, but he’s also more soft? And more on equal ground with Hideyoshi, whom he calls ‘Hideyoshi’, and while their relationship isn’t THAT different, Hideyoshi’s personality and age makes it different, and I love it. Because of his time with Dosan, he gets a lot of ‘screen time’ this time around, so that’s great too.
Kanbei - Kanbei is... young LOL He appears pretty late in the game, so I didn’t have much time to really focus on him because this time, I focused more on Hanbei. Their senpai-kohai relationship is cute though
Nakamura Kazuuji - he’s... there. He has a nice relationship with Mitsuki, but we also never really see them interact properly or hear about their past (maybe the citadel events?), and he’s very loyal to Hideyoshi, so that’s cool too. Like I said above I like the Hashiba group.
Sena - Sena is great, different from the other girls in this game, more mature.
Tadakatsu - he’s like a big loud puppy who follows his master Takechiyo. I didn’t focus on him much tbh I’ve always preferred Ieyasu’s relationship with Hanzou, and that didn’t really change. And this time there was also Sena, so... Tadakatsu was... just there, more like an older brother than a vassal
Hanzou - also great. The age difference this time made some changes with his relationship with Ieyasu, and there’s no ‘shadow to Ieyasu’s light’ symbolism this time, but it is still a nice relationship.
Sandayu - he’s a character that’s very present and he goes from a nice big brother figure to ********, but I haven’t really made an opinion about him yet. He’s a good character, but I like others more, basically.
Kobayakawa Takakage - hahahahaha he’s very self-centered and at first I was like you’re so annoying, but he also started to grow on me, so we’ll see (I definitely do prefer SW4 though). Although, this Kobayakawa and this Hanbei would work quite well together. I need to replay the Hashiba VS Mouri stages.
Saika Magoichi - he’s a nicer version of his SW4 version with no weird womanizer thing thrown in (yet). Unfortunately he only serves as a villain and you don’t really get to know his story, but he’s a person with integrity
Yasuke - Yasuke only joins at the very end of the game, and he’s very cool. He definitely works better than Ranmaru for what this story is about.
Oda Nobuyuki - he was a nice character. tbh they could have made him fully playable because he was present for two whole chapters but well...
Okabe - idk you fight against him
Katsuyori - I like that Shingen calls him ‘Jirou’ LOL otherwise it didn’t really matter to me if he had a special design or not (but like I said I’m not interested in Takeda clan) - he’s voiced by the same guy who’s voicing Kobayakawa so when I don’t particularly pay attention I’m like why is Ieyasu fighting Kobayakawa? lol
Kikkawa Motoharu - ??? he’s there. he’s the muscles to Kobayakawa’s brain, I guess
Mouri Terumoto - he’s young, he feels the burden, but he doesn’t have much presence
Dousan - well, Dousan is Dousan
Saitou Yoshitatsu - at one moment he’s laughing like a cartoon villain
Asakura Yoshikage - he’s so good. He has a bigger presence that Nagamasa, and it’s a shame he wasn’t made fully playable. But he also never joined Nobunaga... he’s a really nice lord who cares about his territory and people, and does everything to protect them
Ashikaga Yoshiaki - your usual incompetent shogun, I guess
Mitsubushi Fujihide - I love him! He’s very loyal to the shogunate and Yoshiaki and does everything to protect him. (even though the shogun is the way he is)
aaaand done. Future me, how did your opinions change?
TOP 5 characters: Mitsuhide, Nobunaga, Hanbei, Hideyoshi, Toshimitsu

because y’all waited for it
about mori’s daughter, okou (okō). she was born in 1579 while he was fighting at the borders to the shinano province and was only 5 years old by the time of his passing. okou continued living with her mother who later married nakamura kazuuji. being the child of two warriors, she aspired to become one herself as well or at least marry one, though nagayoshi was vehemently against it.
she’s the kinda kid that’s caused an uproar by not falling into gender norms, who challenges boys to play-duels to prove herself. okou’s missing either parent’s temper, though she makes up for it by her obliviousness to morals. despite her cute outer, she was a troublemaker just like her parents who she greatly looked up to, the sort that gives you a smile so innocent you can’t be mad for long. besides trying to impress everyone with her self-taught skills, she likes to collect bugs, embroidered pouches and dead things she finds outside. since dad came home blood-drenched all the time, she internalized a lot of socially unacceptable and morbid things. though she was fascinated by death and ecstatic about it in a way that reminded whose kid she was, whenever she found a wounded animal she did all in her small powers to tend to it and return it back to health.
neither ikeda nor mori had an issue with their little taxidermist, so bringing home the skeleton of a japanese weasel or similar for her to marvel about was a completely ordinary father-daughter bonding moment for them. knowing that he’d likely not live a long life, he was dead-set on leaving her with nothing but good memories to remember him by. he misses her dearly and is conflicted about not having died in any way that she could say she was proud of.
on a historical side note (c), her name can be read as ‘scandalous conduct’ which caused a lot of confusion in his will whether he was referring to his daughter’s scandalous conduct or if her name was simply okou, written in an archaic manner that no one uses anymore. it’s also how you spell incense so (?). / picrew

Ikeda clan
Ikeda clan  was a Japanese clan that claimed descent from the Seiwa Genji. In the Edo period, several of the clan's branches were daimyo families, most notably of the Tottori Domain and Okayama Domain. Takamasa Ikeda, former head of the Okayama Ikeda house was a husband of Atsuko Ikeda, fourth daughter of Emperor Shōwa.
*Prominent People*
*Ikeda Tsuneoki* (1536 –1584) he served Nobunaga, since his mother was a foster mother of Nobunaga. In 1570, he was active in the Battle of Anegawa and became the lord of Inuyama Castle. After that, he took part in various battles, such as the Battle of Nagashino against the Takeda clan.
In 1580, he beat Araki Murashige, who locked himself in Hanakuma Castle and was given Murashige's domain. In 1582, he took part in Hashiba Hideyoshi's force at the Battle of Yamazaki after the Incident at Honnō-ji, and beat Akechi Mitsuhide. He also took part in the meeting in Kiyosu Castle. In 1583, he was given 130,000 koku in Mino Province, and became the lord of Ōgaki Castle. In 1584, he took part in the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute on the side of Hideyoshi. He captured Inuyama Castle on his first assault. However, he and his eldest son, Ikeda Motosuke, died in the battle at Nagakute.
*Ikeda Sen*(????-????) was the daughter of Ikeda Tsuneoki and sister of Ikeda Terumasa.
She was known for leading a Teppō unit, or unit of musketeers, which consisted of 200 women in the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute. After her husband's death in the same battle, she married Nakamura Kazuuji.
*Ikeda Terumasa* (1565 – 1613) Terumasa fought in many of the battles of the late Azuchi-Momoyama Period, and due to his service at the Battle of Sekigahara, received a fief at Himeji.
He joined his father in fighting for Hideyoshi in the Komaki Campaign (1584). He led troops at Nagakute (1584), the battle in which his father was killed. In 1590, following the transfer of Tokugawa Ieyasu to the Kanto, Terumasa was established at Yoshida in Mikawa, a 152,000 koku fief. In 1594 Terumasa married one of Tokugawa’s daughters, and after Hideyoshi’s death in 1598, the Ikeda drifted into Ieyasu’s camp. When the Sekigahara Campaign began in the fall of 1600, Terumasa immediately sided with Tokugawa; on 28 September he competed with Fukushima Masanori to be the first to attack Gifu, held by Oda Hidenobu. At the Battle of Sekigahara Ikeda commanded 4,500 troops in the rear guard and saw some desultory fighting with Chosokabe Morichika’s contingent as the battle wound down. Following the Tokugawa victory, Terumasa was given a 520,000-koku fief in Harima, centered on Himeji Castle (which he greatly expanded). In 1603 Bizen was added to Terumasa’s territory, and this he assigned to his eldest son, Toshitaka (1584-1616). By the time of Terumasa’s death in 1613, the Ikeda had grown to rule over Harima, Bizen, Inaba, and Awaji, with a combined income of around 1,000,000-koku. Following the death of Toshitaka, the Tokugawa Bakufu took steps to reduce the alarming power of the Ikeda and eventually reduced the family to Tottori (Inaba) and Okayama (Bizen).
*Atsuko Ikeda* (born 7 March 1931-still living) formerly known as Atsuko Princess Yori is the widow of MarquisTakamasa Ikeda ( Ikeda Takamasa, 21 October 1926 – 21 July 2012) and fourth daughter of Emperor Shōwa and Empress Kōjun.Princess Atsuko was born at the Tokyo Imperial Palace. As with her elder sisters, she was not raised by her biological parents, but by a succession of court ladies at a separate palace built for her and her elder sisters in the Marunouchidistrict of Tokyo. She graduated from theGakushuin Peer’s School, and was also tutored along with her siblings in English language by an American tutor, Elizabeth Grey Vining during the American occupation of Japan following World War II. She graduated Gakushuin University Women's College in March 1952.
On 10 October 1952, Princess Yori married Ikeda Takamasa, the eldest son of former Marquis Nobumasa Ikeda and a direct descendant of the last daimyō of Okayama Domain, whom she had met at a Japanese tea ceremony at Kōraku-en gardens. The couple were engaged after only six months, but wedding plans had to be postponed due to the death of her grandmother Empress Teimeiin 1951 and subsequent period of mourning. Upon her marriage, Princess Yori became the second daughter of an emperor to relinquish her status as a member of the Japanese imperial family and become a commoner upon marriage, in accordance with the 1947 Imperial Household Law.
The former princess relocated to Okayama Prefecture, where her husband, a wealthycattle rancher, has served as director of the Ikeda Zoo outside of Okayama city for over fifty years.
In 1965, she was hospitalized with sepsis, which was a cause of great concern for the Imperial Family, as her elder sister Shigeko Higashikuni had already died of stomach cancer.
In October 1988, Ikeda succeeded her ailing elder sister, Kazuko Takatsukasa, as the most sacred priestess (saishu) of the Ise Shrine. She also serves as the Chairperson of theAssociation of Shinto Shrines.
*Emperor Akihito* (The current Emperor of Japan)(December 1933-still living) (also called Emperor Heisei)Akihito is the reigning Emperor of Japan, the 125th Emperor of his line according to Japan'straditional order of succession. He acceded to the Chrysanthemum Throne on 7 January 1989.Akihito is the eldest son and the fifth child of Emperor Shōwa and Empress Kōjun(Nagako). Titled Prince Tsugu as a child, he was raised and educated by his private tutors and then attended the elementary and secondary departments of the Peers' School (Gakushūin) from 1940 to 1952 Unlike his predecessors in the Imperial Family, he did not receive a commission as an Army officer, at the request of his father, Hirohito.
During the American firebombing raids on Tokyo in March 1945, Akihito and his younger brother, Prince Masahito, were evacuated from the city. During the American occupation of Japan following World War II, Prince Akihito was tutored in the English language and Western manners by Elizabeth Gray Vining. He briefly studied at the Department of Political Science at Gakushuin University in Tokyo, though he never received a degree.
Although he was Heir-Apparent to the Chrysanthemum Throne from the moment of his birth, Akihito's formal Investiture as Crown Prince was held at the Tokyo Imperial Palace on 10 November 1952. In June 1953, Crown Prince Akihito represented Japan at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in London.
Then-Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko made official visits to thirty-seven countries. As an Imperial prince, Akihito compared the role of Japanese royalty to that of a robot; and, he expressed the hope that he would like to help in bringing the Imperial family closer to the people of Japan.
After the death of Emperor Hirohito on 7 January 1989, the crown prince received the succession. Emperor Akihito formally acceded to the throne  on 12 November 1990. In 1998, during a state visit to the United Kingdom, he was invested with The Most Noble Order of the Garter.

Finally, here are the latest details on the game:
Samurai Warriors 5 takes place inside the Sengoku period, during which an inverted social order extends across Japan. As war rages, several influential figures appear across the country seeking to reign supreme over these turbulent times. Among those figures, the great daimyō, Yoshimoto Imagawa, dispatches his troops to escort the minor daimyo of the neighboring nation—Ieyasu Tokugawa—as a hostage. While everyone is assessing the situation, there is one person watching all of this occur from high above… Nobunaga Oda. Samurai Warriors 5 begins with Nobunaga, along with his childhood friend Toshiie Maeda, as they make a raid on the Imagawa Army in order to rescue Ieyasu from his captors.
In Samurai Warriors 5, this and every raid will be complemented by the all-new ability to unleash Ultimate Skill attacks on enemies. Ultimate Skills are incredibly powerful actions that can be used during battle, with players able to equip up to four types of Ultimate Skills at any one time. Ultimate Skill types include the Avalanche, enabling you to thrust your Great Spear into the earth to create a shockwave that stuns nearby enemies; Recuperation, where you can either increase your attack power or defense, or recharge your Musou Gauge; Relentless Storm, where you throw enemies into the air, beat them to a pulp, then bring them down to the ground with a strike from your Great Spear; and Pulse, an Ultimate Skill suited for continuing combos, enabling you to connect Pulse Ultimate Skills and Musou attacks.
In addition, Hyper Attacks return to the battlefield, enabling characters to travel great distance while assaulting enemies. As the Hyper Attack allows you to round up combatants and can be connected to a standard attack, it acts as the perfect starting point for any battle.
Samurai Warriors 5 is due out for PlayStation 4 and Switch on June 24 in Japan, followed by PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch in the west and PC via Steam worldwide on July 27.
