I have to say...It was funny to see Kenji in Katawa Shojo, because whenever he appeared, the youtuber I saw playing it would get mad...and that was extremely funny 🤣🤣🤣
(P.S: Poor hisao, being shipped with anyone and everyone 😂)
yeah uhhh katawa shojo very much is a game by ppl who frequented 4chan and while i thought it was a pretty good game when i played it uhhhhh more than a decade ago lmao so my memory (and probably judgement seeing as i was 17 at the time, i have been meaning to give the re engineered fan remake a look but i haven't touched it in ages) isn't the best haha
it still kind of is a product of its time and development. Honestly it's a miracle it got made at all but in any case anyone who goes in to it... i wouldn't say expect the *worst* like its Fine , but be prepared for just, oddities, and some more tasteless than others, off the top of my head i also remember that best friend characters a punk ass misogynist bitch and it's played for laughs but like, he's annoying. oh and that one girl in the bush cheney shirt lmfao??? there's also multiple writers and artists, u can definitely see it in the art but ppl have said that you can very much Tell in the writing as well, i only ever finished Rin so i wouldn't know but i feel like that's worth mentioning because some routes might have more questionable writing than others because of that.
I continued my playthrough of Hooked On You. Got through Huntress' date and tried to save in the middle of it. Quit the game and it reset to the beginning of the date. Definitely frustrating but I was surprised at how easy I found the minigame to beat.
I also got started with an older game called The Beginners Guide. Seems appropriate for making my first little shitty project.
But I put a little more time into the game this week. It has been busy and I have been procrastinating. But I got through options for the drinks and moved on to the food
I am of two minds when it comes to this. I kinda want to do one more three-option for location, or jumping right into picking a potential partner.
Or split the difference and do both
I think I am just trying to avoid coding consequences for the choices because I do want there to be consequences but I get to do more research into Twine to see how that all would work and that will take more time than just writing.
So maybe the option is just to write one path? Instead of three? That seems the most reasonable even if it isn't how I have been operating.
I think the other thing that I have to do is imagine what the romance options will be. Give them a little character and whatnot.
So I think that will be the goal for next week:
Write a short bio for one romance-able character
Write a short intro after choosing a place to sit
A little more work than what I am used to but lets push a little more shall we? As for gaming goals:
30 minutes (1 in game day) of Hooked on You
30 minutes of Katawa Shojo
Lets stick to the more visual novels for now. Because I still have:
Game Analysis: Astroneers - 1st Draft
I am not sure how I am going to do this one as there are a lot of ways to dissect it. I am particularly impressed by the sound design but the visual styling and interface are also very intuitive and would be worth dissecting. So lets just do another hour of gameplay and see what happens.
Oh boy big week lets see if I am biting off more than I can chew
I really want shojo manga with disabled characters, and like, I was able to find some lists but almost none of it was speaking to me. and it occurred to me that like.
I think I specifically want shojo manga with disabled male characters. a lot of the Really Yucky Stuff that media in general and manga especially tends to pull on disabled characters is somehow mitigated if the character is male, maybe just because some of the Really Yucky Stuff is in some ways a direct parallel to the Really Yucky Stuff media directs at female characters as a whole. misery tourism, torture porn, infantilization, etc.
I know perfect world comes out in april, and I want that. (I actually asked for it for christmas because I didn’t realize kodansha lets their digital-first get that far ahead digitally.) maybe I should check the webcomic apps, I know there’s a more correct word for manga people draw and post online but I can’t remember.
(also I was rambling about it on twitter and mana confirmed that katawa shojo is exactly as gross as I remember. despite it being on almost every fucking recommendation list. thanks fellow english-speaking manga fans, you’re the “best”. :I )
