I absolutely love light novels! Although sometimes they might be dozens of volumes long, they often manage to do amazing world-building, and are immensely charming to read. My favorite genre of light novel is definitely isekai, the ones where a normal person gets stranded into another unknown world. Sadly some of these only have protagonists being overpowered and offer no room for strategic and critical thinking, but there are many others which are far from boring. . The one you see on the right is a good example of this. We have our heroine, fan of otome games (the visual novels where, as a girl, you basically have to choose the right options to marry your favorite guy), gets reincarnated in the last one she played. Sounds normal so far, until she realizes she's in fact the villainess! And of course, the game states that the villainess must lose. Our protagonist has time from just after her birth as the villainess to find a way to avoid getting killed or exiled from the kingdom she's destined to be the duchess of. It's extremely amusing to read, especially when the poor protagonist is thinking up some new complex plan to make the situation better. She isn't overpowered at all, because the entire world is against her character, thus she'll be forced to act smart to survive. . The manga on the right, conversely, has a different take on the story, as this time our protagonist has no memories of her past life until she's a teen. This means she has about a year to prepare before the actual events of the game she played finally start. . I'd really love to get ahold of the other volumes sometime (wish my Amazon helped). I'll wait a bit to read the manga maybe, as it might contain spoilers for the main series.
