Full disclosure: I really wanted this to be our fifth consecutive day of 新 names, but I am not 100% sure what's happening here! The most likely possibility is that this name is 新藤 (new + wisteria), read Shindō, or less commonly, Shintō, Shinfuji, Arafuji, Niifuji, or Nitsutō...... but there are some shenanigans going on with 新 and I can't quite trust it 🤨
That's definitely 斤 (axe) on the right, but if this is indeed 新, then the left radical should be 立 (stand) on top of 木 (tree). That would make for a total of 3 horizontal lines: 2 from 立 and 1 from 木. But there's 4 lines here, no? There's 3 on top and 1 from 木. So that made me think it was the left radical of 耕 (plough), buuuuut now once I typed that out here, I saw that 耕 also has only 3 vertical lines. Hmm. So I've been writing that wrong for years, huh!
Fine. These things happen. Whatever. Undeterred, I looked up 耕's left radical 耒 (also plough*) combined with 斤 (axe), but no such kanji exists! Huh. So then I of course had to look up every kanji with 斤 in it, and.......
.......it just isn't there!! The closest I see is 斬, which it clearly is not because the left radical is unmistakably 車 (vehicle), plus it bottoms out in a straight vertical line rather than in a hook. Also, the name 斬藤 does not exist in the first place (probably because 斬 means beheading).
So I did what I do when I am REALLY lost: I consulted a Chinese radical dictionary. I found 斩, but we don't use that left radical in Japanese, so I looked it up, which is embarrassing because even my 101-level Mandarin should've been enough to immediately clock this as the simplified version of 斬, which, again, means beheading and therefore is not likely to be used in names.
So after all that, all I can conclude is that this probably is 新藤 after all, and it must just be a glitch in my brain that means no matter how I squint, I see four horizontal lines, three on top and one from 木 . Sigh.
I'm fine. I am certain that one of you will immediately recognize this kanji and correct me about it, and I am going to feel a normal amount of emotion about that. And I don't think this has anything to do with new meds that mean I can't sleep. Things are regular here. Thank you.

Read a Twitter thread a few days ago how Katsuki, Izuku and Tomura are meant to be the pillars of hope and change for hero society (by Kikibats, go check her out, the thread is her pinned tweet), and that got me thinking about Tomura's birth name, so I looked up the kanji for his name (志村 転弧, for those curious), and I wanted to share.
(someone probably already did make this connection and worded it better but screw it we bail let's go-)
Kikibats' thread has mentioned what "Shimura" could have originally meant In-Universe, especially "Mura", so it's about a paragraph short, because I'm writing what it could mean in the story as it is (again, In-Universe):
So from the name Shimura Tenko, we have:
Shi (志):
"Determination, ambition, intent", which Tenko does have, arguably even more than Izuku has (I mean, running around barely sleeping while facing Gigantomachia for three months? spending four months in a tube and resurrecting by sheer anger?), but ambitious is after realizing his convictions and intends to carry on the League's. It can also refer to “will” as in willpower, the one trait AFO doesn't have, and the reason he was selected as his vessel.
Mura (村):
Mentioned in her thread, but "Village", could be an ironic spin on “it takes a village to raise a child”, since after his family's death no one was willing to take him in, and the one who did only did so to groom him into a monster. It could also refer to a heroic trait he has (yes, even as he was annoyed at Toya and Himiko when he first met them): taking people in when he thinks they're lonely, have been rejected, wronged by society and wanting to carry on their convictions, which leads to:
Ten (転):
a verb; "to shift", and sure enough, he's the one who created the Vanguard Action Squad with the purpose of kidnapping Katsuki, setting off the Kamino Incident and shifting the status quo of society. You could argue he has been since the USJ but no one really feared him until Stain came along. Tomura is also one of the characters whose goals and motivations develop the most through the story.
It can also mean "to turn", from changed from the sweet kid who wanted to play heroes with his friends, to a symbol of fear. And physically, he's the willing participant in Dr. Garaki's body experimentation and his body is constantly shapeshifted depending on his (and AFO's) mental state.
Finally, “Ko” (弧):
The kanji for “arc”, which is admittedly very vague and it could mean nothing, but.
It could refer to the arc he goes through.
From a kid playing with those others ignored who wanted to be a hero, to being groomed into the Symbol of Evil('s puppet), which eventually unravels once he becomes powerful enough to fight Izuku, resulting in the reveal that in spite of all what he’s been through, he’s still that kid willing to extend his hand (well, in a metaphorical way) for those who want/need someone to rely on. Someone who wants to be the LoV's hero.
A bonus point, since we (readers and watchers who like to read the raws/watch subbed anime) use "Ko" we usually think of "子", the kanji for "kid", this one abandoned by a complacent village. And remember since Izuku wants to offer him a hand, a crying lonely child in need of a hero. With AFO taking control of him, while Izuku (and most of Class 1-A) trying to save him, wouldn't it be neat to see Tomura choosing to take Izuku's hand, especially someone whose identity was forcefully defined by a touch of death?
Would be fit for his arc to come full circle, wouldn't it?

I'm pretty curious about why the Japanese iruma fandom nickname Ipos gingko but its a really cute nickname, i like it a lot
I also think its fun how the ipos/murmur/ifrit trio + marbas get number nicknames lmao (128 + ○) just cause their names sound like the numbers (ichou- 1, tsu- 2, eito-8, mar(u)-0) like idk thats fun i like it

[[ I was doing some planning for my Japan trip, and I found some symbolism that I'd never realized with Kiba's name :) It's initially based on the word "fang" (牙 kiba), plus it sounded demon-ish enough, but turns out there's a park in Tokyo called "Kiba Park", except kiba is spelled "木場 ki-ba"... which literally means "the place with trees/lumberyard" :') he's a wild boi all around!! ]]

When I wrote for GL!MC's family, I actually couldn't decide what's their surname. Since I'm working with a reader-insert anyway, I figured, 'yeah, that's free game for everyone' but I did consider the names of their siblings.
Seisaku just takes a google search to hint what I'm alluding to his character. The thing is the name Seisaku isn't without the connotation that it's connected only to that certain RL person in the internet, like how MC's older brother is only perceived as a monster by everyone.
There's this neat thing that's oddly coincidental, though.
Seisaku [誠策]
誠 [せい] means 'truth, sincerity, reality'
策 [さく] means 'policy'
Seisaku's [誠] is a different kanji from Shinichiro's [真], but synonymous in meaning. The weird thing is [誠] in on'yomi is [せい] and in kun'yomi is [まこと] which is read as makoto lol. I'm not implying they're secret brothers or anything, but I am setting them up more as foils to each other.
Akemi is a bit tricky. I chose it on a whim because it felt right. In a way, it kind of is.
Akemi [明美]
明 [あけ] as in 'bright, light'
美 [み] as in 'beauty'
I read it more as 'beautiful light' in my head. I associate her a lot with light mainly because of two reasons: (1) She's the one who told MC about the green light during a sunset. (2) It's more of a Filipino thing haha. I was even intending to make her husband Filipino from the start. Anyways, we have this term for mothers called, Ilaw ng Tahanan which means the 'Light of the House' in the same respect fathers are Haligi ng Tahanan which means the 'Pillar of the House'. Now yall know where I get my analogies from lol. Everything else is still mostly Japanese, but these analogies are the only ones I derive a bit from my culture.
Keiko [恵子] means 'lucky child'. It's ironic, given what Akemi's been through, but that's what she's always felt for her daughter. The name of her other daughter is a mystery for now ;)

As for MC, it was always Kaname. In my head, Shin shortened it to Kana. I wanted a delicate-sounding nickname for someone as brusque as MC lol. The nickname didn't end there. Everyone else called them Kana too, but it was Kanacchi to Mikey and Kana-chan to Wakasa.
Kaname [叶夢]
叶 [かな] as in 'to come true'
夢 [め] as in 'dream'
I know it's supposed to sound like Kanamu lol. There's [む] for 'dream', but no [め] unless it's [ゆめ] but then it'll just sound weird as Kanayume. So I figured I should just go for the accidental Kaname [かなめ]. Sometimes, I just prefer it in hiragana so it wouldn't be too complicated, but I keep in mind the kanji meaning for their character.
Anyways, yeah, so their name was always a constant reminder to what they lost hence the angst. Apparently, I live to make them suffer :')

An uncommon one-kanji name with five potential readings: 椋 could be read Muku, Mukunoki, Mokunoki, Ogura, or Mugura. Wow!
椋 is made up of the radicals for tree 木 and capital (city) 京. And ムクノキmukunoki is a species of tree, the scabrous aphananthe or muku tree (Aphananthe aspera). Apparently its leaves can be used to make sandpaper, which is neat. And here I was thinking of it as a whale tree, because if you swap out the tree radical for the fish one, you get 鯨 kujira. (Can anyone tell I have a big project due today and do NOT want to work on it?)
