Alongside Kamen Rider, this was my latest rewatch of this current batch of shows being reviewed, and a well worthwhile rewatch it was.
Ultraman Dyna is in many ways the perfect sequel to Ultraman Tiga, with the real sense of the crew going “bigger” in terms of concepts explored, sets produced, suits constructed, stakes, and cast. It truly feels like the world of Neo Space Frontier has expanded, we’ve now touched space travel and with the expansion of Super GUTS now we discuss the concept of militarization and even a degree of imperialism. The show adds onto Tiga by showing how the events of the previous show affected the world after and even the way our central cast has to live up to.
The cast of Dyna is filled with colorful characters, much like Tiga, but now with a larger roster in Super GUTS we get not only a sense of a bigger budget for TPC but as well as a greater excuse for the writers to explore the characters in ways that Tiga may not had even explored. The is especially prominent in our lead dork: Shin Asuka. Asuka benefits from having a show that has a very clear overarching narrative rather than a more episodic format of the previous season, so the viewer really does see Asuka grow as a person and as an Ultra in real time as he learns that he does deserve the power bestowed upon him and that he doesn’t need to BE like his father but rather be himself. In some way, you can interpret this as a way of the show saying that it isn’t trying to be like Tiga, and we learn that the strength of Dyna is its power as its own show and not just being the successor to Tiga.
Dyna is a show that isn’t without its flubs, some episodes during its early run can drag and some elements don’t fully work but despite it these do not bring it down in the slightest.
-- 𝑼𝒍𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝑻𝒊𝒈𝒂 & 𝑼𝒍𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝑫𝒚𝒏𝒂 𝑴𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒆 --
A movie that takes place during the show’s pre-final ten episodes, I always prefer watching it around the middle of the show to use it as a “halfway checkpoint” for the higher stakes of the second half. Returning GUTS members appear and help the Super GUTS team against the larger threat of the latest monster of the week, a huge kaiju that towers over Dyna and easily overpowers him.
Tiga makes a return as well, reborn through the will of the people who want to help Dyna in a vein not dissimilar to Tiga’s finale and even when the TDG movie does it. The movie is a fun time, but newcomers expecting something that feels deserving of a true feature length entry may feel underwhelmed by the fact it is an extended episode (as all the Ultra films beside Next, Super 8, Zero era, and R/B movie were).

The 45-minute special is a sequel to the Farewell Hanejiro arc, and should be watched immediately after considering the events would contradict the three part finale’s events.
The special essentially is a tribute to an Ultraseven episode and it shows in many aspects of the plot and the MOTWs, with an android woman.
It’s good.

I know, but for the benefit of those who may not be into tokusatsu and follow your blog, tell us about some of your favorite toku cuties!
oh boy, i could go on about this all day. which i will. hope you don’t mind that they’ll mostly be guys, as tokusatsu in general tends to be a sausagefest. i’ll try to avoid spoilers for the aforementioned non-toku devotees.
let’s get the obvious one out of the way first!
black woz from kamen rider zi-o
he came from 50 years in the future to give a high school boy a magic belt that would enable him to become an evil king with ultimate dominion over space-time
catchphrase: “REJOICE!” followed by super hammed up dramatic speeches whenever said high school boy gains a cool new power
user of the thoth stand
he basically worships this high school boy and tries to encourage him to become the despot who shaped the dystopian hellscape woz came from
he has a doppelganger we call white woz whose goals are completely counter to his, and you know what? the woz who stans the evil king is the good one
he likes natto and mustard on his rice
he can actually be surprisingly sassy if you push his buttons enough
woz’s actor, keisuke watanabe, is the prettiest human being in this universe
shinji kido from kamen rider ryuki
REJOICE! he’s also in zi-o!
he transforms into kamen rider ryuki, with dragon powers and a mask like a sports car grille
catchphrase is “oi, ren!” which was changed for me forever after watching the end of the rider time ryuki special
he is my son! i want to adopt him!
dumb as fuck, heart of gold, will let you peg
he works as a reporter at a not very reputable newspaper which seems to mostly publish investigations of weird rumors and urban legends
he also works as a waiter at this cute teahouse
he still has no money because his friend yui broke a window
in the world of ryuki, kamen riders must duke it out in a battle royale by transforming into their super alter egos and entering the monster-infested world on the other side of reflective surfaces
shinji doesn’t want to fight anyone though, he just wants to keep the monsters from hurting people!
he’s such a sweet cute idiot. i’d protect him with my life.
akira nijino from ressha sentai toQger
transforms into toQ 6gou, the the orange toQger
catchphrase: “this is the place where i will die…” (and variations on that)
reformed monster turned magical railroad worker turned hero
his introductory arc will tug at your heartstrings
his face turn happened after he saw a rainbow for the first time, and henceforth dedicated his life to protecting rainbows
his guilt complex hangs over him in the form of a literal rain cloud
he’s normally taciturn but gets super cheerful and giggly in the presence of cute baby animals, especially kittens
he loves public baths so much he uses the word “aishiteru”
he often makes his dramatic entrance while playing a mournful tune on his harmonica
he’s got a lot of internal conflict going on but he’s such a good guy
his monster form has the softest fluffiest ears and a bitchin cowboy outfit
seriously sets off my gaydar for some reason?
noel takao from kaitou sentai lupinranger VS keisatsu sentai patranger
transforms into both the silver lupin X AND the golden patren X
catchphrase is “oh la la!” which he says when surprised/excited/intrigued
he’s both a phantom thief and an elite international police officer. it just works…somehow.
uses his mecha train to travel between japan and france in no time flat
older than he looks
does unnecessary acrobatic stunts for the hell of it (which his actor, seiya motoki, really does!)
wants the phantom thieves and police officers to be friends and work together instead of fighting
lowkey shipper on deck
(accidentally typed “lowkey shipper on dick”)
is he japanese? is he french? well that is just his own sweet and sexy secret
owns a shiny silver and gold kimono equally as awesome as akira’s in the gif above
tsukasa kadoya from kamen rider decade
he’s kamen rider decade
catchphrase is “i’m just a kamen rider passing through…remember that!”
his show is so weird and confusing but that’s okay because he’s cute and has an adorably bad attitude
always trying to take photos with the camera he carries. they always turn out looking shitty. he says it’s because the world is rejecting him, and not because he’s shitty at taking photos.
so he’s supposed to hop universes destroying worlds but he seems to just keep saving them instead
said worlds are extremely strange AUs of the first nine heisei kamen rider shows
anyway, back to tsukasa. he has a weird and sexy way of sitting which he did in front of black woz once which made him start doing it
actually his interactions with black woz in zi-o are memorably hilarious for both characters
every time tsukasa enters a new world, he automatically has a job that helps him fit in. in the kiva world, he’s a concert violinist–and boy, can he play. in the blade world, he’s the head chef of a cafeteria, and comes up with some great (if a little underhanded) methods of making money.
what the fuck is he even doing?
will i have the answer to that by the time i finish watching decade or nah?
regardless, he’s incredibly charming, and pleasant to watch

umika is secretly the super cute phantom thief lupin yellow!
she’s super cute and acts cheery but she’s got some intense sadness going on deep down which remains a secret to most people

i started watching lupat because she’s cute, even though i did not think i’d really get into super sentai

he’s the high school boy black woz is obsessed with
he’s kamen rider zi-o, kamen rider zi-o ii, kamen rider oma zi-o, part of the fusion kamen rider zi-o trinity, and has a fuckton of various forms
in the tradition of shinji kido he is cute, dumb, sweet, and bleaches his hair
can you believe this widdle bitty cutie pie grows up to become a megalomaniacal overlord subjecting humanity to a dark timeline of misery and woe??
at least, he might. he’d rather not. the time travelers from 2068 inform him that it’s a definite possibility.

even when anxious and easily discouraged, tokatti is always brave and strong for his friends when in a pinch
thinks of his big brother ryo as a cool superhero
the glasses nerf just how handsome he is

What I like about them
If Shotaro is going to do something, he is going to go all. The.Way. Whether it’s his dedication to The Hardboiled Aesthetic, hiswork as a detective, falling for someone (again), anything. WhenShotaro says he’s doing something, he’s going to do it.
This man is devoted tothe whole found family that the agency became. He’s slow to warm upto people, but once he does, he becomes full on ride-or-die for them.
… okay I realized as soon as I wrote that last line that I’mtalking about Kamen Rider, where that is a very real jobdescription and workplace risk. (Stupid secondary meanings keepcreeping into everything I write with this franchise.)
And it’s a very real risk that he’s taken, too…which leads us into…
What I dislike about them
“Local superhero takes obscene risksso that nobody else has to.” Am I talking about Shotaro? Kouta?Taiga? Sento? Ryuuga? Who knows?
Shotaro talks big, but he doesn’tseem to value himself very much.
The arc with Zone and Beast, where theboys first used CycloneJokerXtreme, was... Not a good sign forShotaro’s self worth. He wasn’t able to keep up with Philip, knewthat he was the problem, and since Shroud kept saying that Ryu shouldbe Philip’s partner… Shotaro tried to bow out, because he didn’twant to slow Philip down. That would be admirable, if it weren’tfor the fact Philip still wanted to partner with him, and that hewent off to try and close the case in an incredibly reckless andrisky manner. He didn’t know that Hokuto PMTajimi Bell was the user of the Zone Memory, but he seemedto suspect she was. He brought it right to her anyway, withoutknowing what it could do. This very nearly actually kills theman.
(I just went to KR Wiki to check names,and the matchup on the front page is Joker versus Protodrive. CouldNOT have been more appropriate.)

An assortment of headcanons!
Heis basically the ultimate animal whisperer. I mean, hecan apparently find cats that aren’t... actually supposed to befound? I’m still not convinced Kinouwas originally real.
Honestly, Ikind of think Shotaro has some minor reality warper abilities. He isthe ultimate wildcard, after all, and what better way to put a crimpin someone’s plans than to throw probabilityto the wind? (Hey,look, a yeti!)
Ona slightly less ‘crack-theory’ topic, I think Shotaro’s one ofthe most likely of the Neo-Heisei riders to havethe “Oh my god you are children,who was it thatletput youon the belt, and where can Ifind them?” moments. Whilehe and Gen bonded nearly instantly during their brief meeting inFourze & OOO, Sho couldn’t have known that Gentaro was aboutthe same age Philip was when they met. (Youare how old and goinginto space? WHAT?) And I doubt Shotaro would be in any way okay withsome of the things his successors have gone through.
Thataside, if Shinnosuke is the Dad friend of Neo Heisei, and Emu is theMom friend (don’t tell him, we’re waiting to see when henotices), then Shotaro is the Cool Uncle friend. He’s going to havea lot of practice with Haruna Terui, after all.

Finally sitting down to watch Zi-O ep 4...
Let’s game?
Well, no, actually no, we won’t, but I was trying to be thematic.
And in no particular order:
Okay, that explains it. When I saw the preview images it looked like they were talking to Emu, and then Geiz and Sougo both henshined and took a knee for some reason. It’s actually the other way round.
Geez, Emu. Since when were you this uncommunicative and unhelpful? That’s Taiga’s job!
Like seriously, you know these two are Kamen Riders. Just explain yourself to them instead of making weird vague statements.
Geiz at it again w/ the grump. Have I mentioned--you know where that’s going.
Tsukuyomi w/ the intercede again. I’m liking this trio.
Okay, I wanna know who Goggles is. The guy whose hand Geiz was holding in that future-flashback? A friend? Brother? This being Toei it’s unlikely to be a boyfriend, but it’s still possible. He looks like he mighta been a nice fellow, I’m sorry he died.
I guess this is a lot to take in, and Sougo is generally pretty slow on the uptake, it appears, so... But looks like he’s getting it now.
Tsukuyomi, I really hope you’re aware just how much of a problem child you just decided to adopt.
I actually agree w/ someone else I saw, I think. I kinda wish they would give her a better reason than ‘I don’t know’ for this. Like, I’m liking the idea that she doesn’t want her childhood friend to technically become a murderer by killing someone who is, at that point, still innocent, but this ‘I don’t know’ thing is kinda... meh to me. It doesn’t feel touching or sweet, and is even kinda out of character... But that’s just me. She’s super great, but she otherwise seems so decisive and confident that it’s a little odd.

‘From your perspective,’ Geiz, you are literally from 2068. I’m pretty sure, excepting folks from 2069 onward, that that’s the future from everyone’s perspective.
Also, to get this out of the way: AAAAAAH! SETO IS SO PRETTY! OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM SO MUCH EVEN WHEN HE’S A DICK! AND ESPECIALLY WHEN HE’S NOT!
Note: I don’t love him because he’s a dick, but what I love is grumpy, pretty much jerky characters who come out of that bc they start caring about someone or something (again, in Hiiro’s case). Did that make sense?
Also, I’m actually giggling bc of how much of a pompous ass my grumpy surgeon son was. The fact that this is literally like, right after he first showed up, means that he’s at peak dickishness and it’s really funny to look back.
Kids pulling on Geiz. God, honey, what were you expecting when you put that thing on? Well, at least they’re aware of how goofy it is.

And Emu’s getting thrown around again. Some things never change. What’s still funny about this is still that Ijima Hiroki is (still) not a short man. He’s 5′ 10″. This, to me, makes how much Emu get’s thrown around utterly hilarious.
See, Emu. This is what happens when you don’t pull a Taiga, and discuss things w/ people. You’re the one who forced Hiiro to learn that, why are you doing it?
Aw, Sougo appreciates that Tsukuyomi is trying to save the future w/out killing him. Good kids.
Where’s that B99 ‘cool motive still murder’ picture? I mean, I know it’s a kid. But dude... You don’t have the right to other people’s lives (or body parts) just bc your son is dying.
Hm... I know people are thinking it’s named after Hiiro, but... What if it’s named after his dad? I mean, Kagami Haima was the director of the hospital, he had to start somewhere. To me that feels more logical? Bc it’s only been two years since Ex-Aid, that’s awfully fast to name a medical procedure... But it’s just a thought.
You know what, I bet Hiiro feels bad for brushing Geiz off in the past, so now he’s like ‘I must do everything I can to help these kids out bc when I met them before I was a jerk.’ Part of his ‘stop being an anti-social grump’ attempt. And he’s worried about Emu.
Does the Time Majin have an AI? How did it know to fly up to the roof right then? Is it telepathically connected to Sougo now?
So Uhr is helping Ora/Hora out? Maybe there is hope for a villain-family dynamic after all...
Also apparently that’s Takeru’s mech? Takeru has a mech? I really need to finish Ghost... But it’s either just for the sake of cameo, or it’s related to how Geiz got the Ghost Ride Watch. Now I’m wondering if he maybe stole the Drive and Ghost Watches from the Time Jackers? But if that’s the case, why did they have them? They usually use the Another Rider Watches...? Are Takeru and Shinnosuke okay? Oh my god, did Takeru die again? Actually, I guess Shinnoksuke also died a lot in that one movie so... Oh dear.
Is Sougo transforming in tiny spaces gonna be a thing now?
Come to think... Since the opening, we haven’t seen Woz. What’s prophet boy up to?
This tiny gremlin child who I adore and want to pinch the cheeks of just giggling to himself in his busted mech like a five year old.
Sorry, Geiz, you can’t beat the bounce.
Sougo just fucking slams this thing w/ the Time Majin.
And so, the path toward very reluctant and at first very awkward friendship begins. Let’s a-go kids!
But also god that boy is skinny. Honey, do you even HAVE hips? Are you okay?
Geiz is having feelings but is very confused right now. Punching things is generally a good venting method.
And the boys are still very bad at not being good at teamwork. Like, they’re already synchronising in pretty much every fight they’ve been in--not just in henshins but in attacks and so on.
Emu that looks NOTHING LIKE YOU, WHY would you call it a doppelgänger.
Since this is after Hiiro first showed up, it means that the two of them still don’t like each other (bc it took them a while to get there), so I’m not surprised that he wouldn’t call Hiiro immediately if something came up. Plus this may not show up bc CR relied on reports by witnesses and were in an abandoned warehouse. But then why is Emu...? Oh, I don’t know.
Was his henshin really always that deep?
Oh! There he is! Woz! I was wondering where you were! So, uh... Where were you?
Geiz: ‘Oh no, not again!’
Wow, he did the hoppity hop thing!

Wait, but the Brave and Snipe (and Genm, and then there’s Para-DX, and Poppy, and Cronus... Though I guess those last ones may not end up existing since they’re post-this?) Watches don’t seem to be in-show, so... Does that mean that Hiiro and Taiga keep their powers? Bc there was a Crozz-Z Ride Watch, so I now understand Ryuuga losing his, but there were so many Riders in Ex-Aid... Though maybe there’s a whole butterfly thing that simply by removing the primary everything is effected. Bc if you had to account for each individual Rider... Imagine how complex and difficult shows like Ryuki and Gaim would be to explain/sort through.
Hiroki has such a nice smile. Actually, pretty much everyone is Ex-Aid had a nice smile when they smiled.
Oh, god, yes. I really hope that the Rider trying to teach Sougo how to do the finisher in some way (miming for Emu, explaining for Sento) is a thing every time... Though I guess since they couldn’t get Gentaro we won’t get to see him do it... But maybe Takumi will? (I’ve never actually watched Faiz, so I have no idea what the finisher looks like)
Oh, hey. When Sougo hits him it says it in... Kanji, I think? But in Japanese characters of some kind instead of English.

I really love it when the ones playing the ‘serious grumps’ are really adorably dorky and super nice. Like apparently, Seto was the funny and fun one, which I find so cute and hilarious.

Awwww. Of course Hiiro saved him. Though they haven’t shown us anything yet... So, maybe, even in the altered timeline, he and Emu still ends dup becoming close somehow? Can I pretend that’s the case? Seriously, Hiiro needs that kid. Otherwise he’s just gonna continue forgetting how to be human.
Why do you need another plate? But I think it’s cute how Junichiro is making so much food. I wonder if it’ll be like Mario in Zyuohger, where when he find out (if he doesn’t already know) he decides to just make life at the shop as homey as possible.
Geiz, maybe you should start using his name? Just to, you know, keep Uncle from getting suspicious?

Well, there’s clearly a friendship theme, so I’m hoping there’s a level of deepening the bonds that just started forming in this episode. Unfortunately, I know nothing about Faiz other than apparently Kaixa is a horrible person (given that the preview images imply he’s strangling some poor girl, I am inclined to agree), so I can’t make any guesses there.
All I ask for Christmas is ONE episode where Geiz doesn’t wear that damn collar thing. I know it’s only been four eps but just ONE.
And, in final news, looks like they’re switching the Watches around.

Animal Sentai Zyuohger - The Movie
So we’re actually gonna have to take a bit of a step to one side here, because it turns out we missed the spot for the main Zyuohger movie! Well, I say movie. It’s basically just a particularly high-budget episode since it would double-feature with a Kamen Rider. Anyways the point is it’s Animal Sentai Zyuohger the Movie: The Exciting Circus Panic! Here we GO!
-Toei logo~ I’ve got to screenshot that, it’s such a classic piece of this history.
-But then it’s straight into the action, where Cube Condor is attacking wildly, as controlled by an evil clown! The team is forced to form Zyuoh King with additional stilts, but that doesn’t do very much…And their villain manages to steal up Cube Tiger and Cube Elephant, forcing them to form CONDOR WILD under his total command! So this is bad.
-And they can’t even properly fight Condor Wild, because with Tiger and Elephant caught inside of it…So that’s how they get the shit kicked out of them with a Condor Rocket Knuckle, a vicious barrage of punches that destabilized the transformation! Shark and Lion are left unconscious in their cubes, while Cube Eagle barely manages to fling Yamato to safety in the river…The rest of the core team left to the machinations of an evil clown for his evil space circus…
-Title card!
-So Yamato gets found by Misao when he’s out fishing, and reels in his dear friend instead of a fish?! Yamato comes to slowly, and what the hell happened…?
-It was a clown.
-Cut back to this morning, when they learned about a circus being advertised to have humanoid animals…Mario figured they were just a group of imitators not unlike himself, but one glance at the flier and the zyumen saw their fellows! Which had them super excited to get to meet more, and so they were right out there to go see the circus…
-How long will the circus even make sense as a Thing That Happens?
-So they had some incredibly impressive light shows, and some incredibly skilled performers who were, of course, zyumen pretending to just be in really good costumes…They even had Cube Condor, to show the people a vision of a fantastical world, Zyuland…
-And then things went wrong. As this legitimate circus got taken over by an evil clown and ringleader of an evil space circus. Who intended to enslave everyone in this tent. Every adult was teleported out, as all the children were taken and the tent turned into a ship!
-So the crew got in there, with Instincts Awakened…And a ground fight started with an army of moebas, all while the field was bombarded with lasers! And the space clown got his hands on Cube Condor…
-Which led to basically everything in that cold open.
-Back in the now, Yamato’s down on his own, just him and Misao…And Misao is in a depression for not having known about any of it. So Yamato’s got to pick the dork up, and now they need a plan…
-Cut up to the Big Bow, where Genis learns just who stole a bunch of their tokens. But this guy is interesting enough to leave him be, and see how this plays out…
-Inside the tent, of course all the kids are freaking out, as the captured performers try to do what they can to pick them up…And Amu finds the young bird who is bonded to Cube Condor…And who’s freaking out at the loss of Cube Condor. An orphan born in the human world, who’s never known Zyuland…
-It’s not long before Eagle starts to make an airborne assault, cutting through the flying mooks….Only to get blasted by the tent ship’s cannons! Yamato finds himself on the ground, as parents and families panic over the safety of their children…And Yamato forces himself to rise. This fight isn’t over…!
-Back in the tent, Leo makes the decision. That clown is feeding on fear. Literally, he’s got a massive death-canon that turns fear energy into power. They’ve got to do what they can to disrupt that supply…And that’s how he ends up on a unicycle, which he is very bad at. But it’s enough to get the kids laughing…
-So the clown comes on in to stop all this fun and games and get the crying to happen again. Which leads to the young bird getting strangled with a whip, and the crew getting chained up before they can do anything! The raw terror is profound, as the clown gets out a knife…
-But in that moment, the tent is breached! Cube Eagle manages to fire a shot through the shell, and Eagle himself dives through it! This planet, is UNDER PROTECTION!
And thus begins the fight, as Eagle’s single goal is to get those weapons off of the clown, and get his friend’s Symbols back…Of course, he’s on the backstep on his own, quickly getting lashed and beaten. His armor fails him, his body too injured to go on…The clown stomps on him, digs his heel into Yamato’s wounds…
-And it’s the young bird who cries out, demands this end…Rallying the children to stand strong, to stop playing into this bastard’s game! He feeds on their fear, and without their fear, he has NOTHING!
-Their rallying shouts are enough to get Yamato to push himself up, to struggle to keep fighting…And to get enough of an opening to blast the others free! They mob the clown in a flash, going for their Symbols…And manage to get them! They even free Cube Condor, and now…
-Now, it’s time to end this. They stand together, human and zyuman alike! Instincts Awakened! Champion of the soaring skies…ZYUOH EAGLE! Champion of the surging waves…ZYUOH SHARK! Champion of the savannah…ZYUOH LION! Champion of the forest…ZYUOH ELEPHANT! Champion of the snowy drifts…ZYUOH TIGER! Animal Sentai, ZYUOHGER!
-The core five stand strong, racing in, and manage to force the clown out of the tent…
-Which is The World’s cue to get in there and get everyone out safely, as the core five charge in against a small army of mooks to fight! The theme song swells, and the fighting is ferocious, as dozens fall…
-And The World, with his absurd rod, brings the tent ship down to earth! The children are reunited with their parents, and oh it’s such a happy moment and stuff.
-Which leaves the clown. Who is furious, and without a lot of his tools…And swiftly surrounded, as the Zyuohgers come at him from all sides! The Gorilla is awoken, as the others Unleash the Beast, and deliver a circus-themed smackdown that leads up to one furious punch from Gorilla!
-Enough to shred the clown’s armor…And force him to merge with his tent, forming a massive and extra monstrous thing!
-Time to call in everyone! Animal Kingdom Combination! WILD TOUSAI KING! The fight is on, as the clown tries to get his lines wrapped around Wild Tousai King and drain it dry…And he wracks the thing, putting horrible agony through the Zyuohgers…
-Until Cube Condor flies through, bringing on an illusion of Zyuland. Of home. And not just the Zyuohgers, but the Zyuoh Cubes, are filled with fighting spirit, reminded of what awaits on the other side of all of this! The fight is on anew, as Wild Tousai King charges forced, driving its spear into the clown again and again! Condor, will you aid them?
-It becomes a sword, and Condor ZYUOH INFINITY! One single energy-infused slash cuts to the very core, and the clown falls for good!
-In the aftermath, the crew get to meet the performers…And after an exchange of contacts, they swear to call the instant they have all six Symbols. The moment the Link Cube can be opened again, the very instant they can all see home again…You’ll know.
-And then, it’s time for them to say their farewells, and get on to the next town…The performance continues, and the show must go on.
-And a special credits, with all the extras and actors from the movie!
Well, that…Honestly wasn’t Toei’s best. I mean, the Super Sentai solo movies always tend to be a bit small since they focus so heavily on the children’s-hope aspect and are only episode length, but this one had next to no room for any of the cooler concepts they were playing with. Like, I want to see more about these performers.
But maybe we’ll get some good character meat back in the main show. We’ll find out next time, in episode TWENTY FOUR of Animal Sentai Zyuohger! Wait for it!

AND WHILE I’M ON THE TOPIC, WATCH KAMEN RIDER FOURZE!! i heckin love that friendship boy and his pals!! gentaro is a wholesome bud, i cherish and support him :’D
in terms of live-action tv shows, i’ve also really enjoyed star trek deep space 9. it’s the best star trek (of the ones i’ve seen) and i love?? how organic the interpersonal dynamics were???? the finale made me cry because it felt like saying goodbye to pals who i won’t see for a long time

So it took me ten episode of Fourze to figure out why I like it so much, and here's the gist: It doesn't feel like there's only one rider. There is, but there's a full team of people by his side that all play there part. Hell, the name of the group, Kamen Rider Club, follows how the Riders are named, "Kamen Rider (insert unique name here)". It's like they're all one big Rider, fighting to protect their school, putting aside their differences set upon them by their different cliques. And that's not to mention how upbeat the show is. I've only seen three series, Gaim, ExAid and this, and honestly I'm not sure which I prefer between Dorks with fiddle toys IN SPACE or MLG Doctors.

who wakes the other one up with kisses
Tomoko, tho Ryusei comes close now and then n.n Him having to not look at her until she wakes up means he’s only managed it like. Twice.
who cooks for who
Ryusei, because he’ll only put up with so much natto in his diet (meaning once in a blue moon). Tomoko still tries to sneak into the kitchen and help while in her more playful moods.
who is the morning person/night person
Tomoko gets up pretty easy, though she’d sleep in if given a choice. Ryusei has trained himself to wake up for training but is miserable about it every time, forever. Even on off days he ends up waking up early.
who is the romantic one
They both are pretty romantic, but more small gestures for each other type. At first Ryusei has no idea what he’s doing, but once he figures stuff out he definitely picks her up weird little knick knacks from his business trips.
who calls the shots more when it comes to sex
Tomoko~ Though more often then not it’s just her being more vocal about what she likes, and getting out of Ryusei what he likes.
who would lead in ballroom dancing
Ryusei, once they learn how to. It prob is a gift from one of them some year, for something, and they both have a lot of fun with it.
who is the more cuddly one
Tomoko~ Not always the biggest on cuddling, but if one of them is going to start cuddling it’ll be her.
who is the one to most likely pick the movie they watch
Ryusei insists Tomoko picks, but now and then she talks him into having them play rock paper scissors for picking rights.
who is the one who would pay for dates
Whoever makes more sense right then; sometimes it’s part of the romantic gesture, but other times it’s just who pulls out the wallet quicker. There is a period when they start dating, before her first book so Ryusei has more spending money to speak of, but after that they pretty much trade off because that feels less awkward.
who is the one who would initiate a quicky during classes
Tomoko, Ryusei doesn’t get comfortable for stuff like that before they’re both out of college. But she gets pretty good at telling when he really wants one, and occasionally even has fun with that. Because Tomoko can still read his mind like a book.

ON TOPIC
I think I started shipping them around the time we had Cygrus, because they had a pretty cute dynamic that got bonus points for how much Tomoko could affect Ryusei. That is still one of my main reasons for liking them; Ryusei very much tries to act cool and collected and a bit snobby but is still at heart a dork. A

and sometime jerk of a dork, but a dork. And Tomoko sees through this with all of her emotional intelligence, which isn’t that surprising, but the thing that is of note is she
keeps
looking. She likes what she sees and Tomoko often forces Ryusei to engage with her in a way he doesn’t with the rest of the club at first. She pokes through his walls with ease and Ryusei has no idea how to deal with that. In earlier parts its how she threatens his mask, and later on it’s simple Ryusei having no idea what to do about a girl he actually is interested in. He tries for Mr. Suave at the end of the series with that last scene, and you can see the mental highfive he’s giving himself for pulling it off. But we can also see how slow he’s being in that while yeah this was the perfect opportunity to flirt- you do it as you’re going back to your old school? You are adorable but I’m also happy for both your sakes that there is Tomoko to ask you out so it doesn’t take you another six months to work up to the first date.
I also really like the dynamic between them of how Tomoko encourages him as a hero, which we see right from his introduction. It’s only after hearing the club talking about Kamen Riders that Ryusei picks up the title, and for as much as Gentaro is Fourze and the one out there physically fighting bad guys, I think for Ryusei Tomoko also had an important hand in the concept of Kamen Rider as hero being something he really internalized Ryusei starts out the series as someone who doesn’t think about heroics, or aiding strangers, he’s focused just on Jirou. But than the club are his friends, and by the end of the series things have changed. I can picture Gentaro wanting to be a super hero at some point as a child, Ryusei wasn’t exactly that kid. But he is now, and we see that pretty perfectly in the Fourze Movie.
On Tomoko’s end, I enjoy how yeah he doesn’t get her hobbies or certain things about her, but he has a lot of respect for her. Outside of them having complimentary personalities that means she doesn’t grate on him like some friends, he does have a lot of honest respect for what she’s capable of and her skills. We see things like him being skeptical at times about her powers, but willing to give them a shot. ( With some snark in there of course, but it wouldn’t be Ryusei without it. )
Ryusei comes in after Tomoko has really grown into her own with her confidence, which is also one of the parts I like about both her character and their dynamic together. Tomoko is learning how to be comfortable with herself, how to be a confident person while still not being quite there (Her trying really hard during DC of Megamax to give the intro but having stage fright about it comes to mind), and how stuff is going with Ryusei she is defiantly the one who is going to be more sure about stuff as things go on, if not the one in the driver’s seat. And I love how Ryusei is totally fine with this. He appreciates letting her take the lead with the flirting and other stuff, even if he’s not quite sure how to react to it. But he’s getting there.
And pretty much a world where Tomoko is not the one to purpose is OOC. Because that is how things happen, and how they even like it happening, even if things could have gone a bit smoother.
