Music: The escape or the trap

I can’t sleep so I feel like I should make the most of this time while my babies are asleep and my bf is at work. I actually have some time to myself to be super uber productive. I have been... I have completely overhauled my website over the past 2 days...racking up 200 views as I switch back and forth checking links and photo quality. 

I am enjoyin’ the soulful sounds of Musiq Soul Child radio on Pandora. I just switched from the PJ Morton station to try to change the vibe. However I find myself listening to Miguel- Do you.. & I’m immediately taken back. Back to the last time I was in SC, living in Florence. I was knee deep in love with this young man! It used to be painful to think about. I would get so mad before that I would change the song or block it from playing at all costs. 

I remember how that song made me feel when I first heard it. A warm feeling would well up in my stomach and my chest as I reminisced on the the times we lay in the dark laughing & talking about whatever. We breathed the same breath. We were inseparable. At that time I couldn’t imagine my life with out him. Until I had to let him go...really send him away. 

Now it no longer hurts to hear Miguel’s album playing no matter where I am or who I am with. I have grown in a way that I can accept the hurt that was created when that song started to remind me of how much I missed him. When that album made me cry for hours. When I would lay in bed for days searching for the motivation to be productive pr even eat for that matter. That was the trap. 

Now this music is back to being my escape. I talk a brisk walk down memory lane...all the way back to the first time I heard the song up to the last time I heard the song. Then I re-associate the song with new feelings & memories as I sit here & create.
