man i'm barely halfway through episode 12 and i'm already sooooo annoyed because:

1) we get confirmation that namari's conversation with kiki and kaka is 100% cut out, with no intention of adding it in anywhere. hell even marcille's explanation of it feels a little rushed through

2a) other folks have pointed it out from the previews but marcille looks WAY more clean and stable resurrecting falin in the anime than in the manga. where is our unhinged haggard sorcerer moment???

2b) addendum to that point, i'm not a fan of how stylized the resurrection scene was drawn and how focused it was on the party's reactions. it felt too goofy and distracting. like this moment was THEE turning point for marcille's character in the story and they couldn't even give it the right gravitas

3) worse camera shots on the marcille and falin reunion/reaction compared to the manga. like man, you give us the baller through-the-skull view shot to end the last episode and then fumble on this???

with how great the dragon fight ended up being last ep, the dip in quality, care and the cuts chosen here feel like trigger's trying to rush through all of the "non-action" scenes to focus on their studio's comfort zone: flashy fight scenes. this is making me worry that trigger is just gonna completely prioritize fights at the expense of the story and characters. and if that is the case? i'm gonna be real fucking pissed

Alright, it’s time to talk about Lycion and dysmorphia and being a trans allegory

Because… yeah, I think a lot of people can really relate to being scared of mirrors because you hate everything you see in them, and going to extreme lengths to get a body you love

But, and I think this is pretty important and possibly more useful to the trans community than declaring him ours and trans… dysmorphia and dysphoria are not exclusive to trans people

They’re not even particularly related to any part of the body; it can be any part of it

And like 15 years ago when I was learning about trans issues and shit, I went and did a little research, because I eat knowledge. And y’know what fully settled any questions I had?

Found a case about a lady with what is currently being called body integrity/identity disorder, which is basically dysmorphia so severe that people have otherwise healthy limbs amputated to be able to live life in a body they can stand

This lady got both legs fully amputated, got a wheelchair, and became a pillar of her community where before she was almost bed bound

And y’know what, if that’s a thing that can happen and we can all agree that removing her legs was integral to her health, y’know what seems completely trivial by comparison?

And y’know what is even more trivial?

All the other transition measures that have nothing to do with surgery, like hormones, puberty blockers, and social transitioning

Being trans has become a super political idea for basically no reason whatsoever, but it’s harder to maintain that ideology if you learn about things like dysphoria and dysmorphia as just medical conditions that absolutely anyone can get, and then look at what that means for gender dysphoria

Cuz if peoples’ brains can decide an entire limb has Got To Go then yeah, they’re probably also capable of deciding “that pronoun is Wrong” and we can take that just as seriously; it’s a much easier fix and also free

Kiki & Kaka- satellite characters of a group of minor characters. Who are a set b/c that's how folks write twins. Very little dialogue and presence

Thistle/Sissel- an antagonist who tries to murder our protags

Cithis- a convicted criminal, has murder in her list of crimes, a cop, a fantasy racist, enslaved in the same way that DC's Suicide Squad is, and the Canaries are also portrayed initially in an antagonistic light

Its uh, actually, a bit of a pattern with some unfortunate implications. Like, I'm well used to the paper-skin brigade parts of fandom tending to miss shit like that and try to gaslight the shit out of (brown and Black) fans of color that do notice shit and say anything about it.

Day2 - waterbodies

Is it possible to get a hangover from two cups of coffee? It is the case for me. 

I woke up at 08.45 WIT on Monday. Dizziness in my head, bloating in my stomach (likely due to stomach acid), a sour taste in my mouth (worse than cigarette aftertaste), and there was this peculiar sensation in my chest (likely stemming from a sense of missing someone). If I were at home my mum would yell at me for waking up too late–typical Asian household, and it's Monday, folks. I blame my two cups of coffee for screwing my sleep schedule. I had been wanting to follow my colleague to church in the Early Morning. In Papua, particularly Yapen Island, the people are celebrating Pentecost on Sunday to Monday and it becomes an official regional holiday. Although I do not personally partake in the Pentecost celebration, I appreciate the festive atmosphere of such occasions, regardless of religious affiliation. I’d love to just sit down and watch people celebrating from afar. But because of the coffees, I missed it.

My colleagues and I were planning to go to Sarawandori Beach. We have one addition to the team, introducing Kaka Adi. He’d drive us to our destination. He was also driving us crazy* with his one punch line(s) and blunt humour. After lunch we started our trip to Kosiwo District. We took the same path as yesterday's trip, but only covered a quarter of the distance.

*in a sense of big-brother like funny and not romantically.

It took us 20-ish minutes from our hotel 

The first thing that caught my attention was the brilliant azure hue of the ocean's surface, reflecting the sunlight and radiating a sense of tranquillity. The water extends far into the distance, seemingly endless, as if merging with the sky in a harmonious union. It sparkles and shimmers with each gentle ripple, evoking a sense of movement and life.

The distant waves gently lap against the shore, their rhythmic ebb and flow creating a soothing symphony that carries on the breeze. The sound, though distant, reaches my ears, whispering tales of distant shores and hidden treasures. It beckons me to come closer, to explore the secrets it holds within its depths.

As I gaze upon the scene before me, I find myself captivated by the breathtaking view of an ocean enveloped by majestic highlands. The contrasting elements of the rugged, towering cliffs and the serene expanse of the ocean combine to create a truly awe-inspiring sight. The highlands rise dramatically from the shoreline, their imposing presence casting elongated shadows across the landscape. Their towering formations, cloaked in a tapestry of lush greenery and rugged rocks, stand as guardians of the coastline. 

Sarawandori Beach is famous for its seaweed production. From afar, we could see some floating balls on the surface. These floating balls mark the location of the seaweed farms. As we travel along the road leading to the sea, we can observe numerous houses engaged in the process of drying seaweed. Unfortunately, we were unable to find any seaweed production facilities accessible to us. Kaka Adi said all the seaweeds were sold out weeks before we arrived when there was some large scale joint event between the local government and an energy-petrochemical company. “Coba kau datang lebih awal, bisa borong itu rumput laut sampai kenyang.” he said.

After spending quite some time at the beach, we left for our next location on a different part of the island. We made a stop along the roadside to appreciate another body of water found in Yapen: Tondijat Lake. The lake's water possesses a stunning turquoise hue.

We were standing on a cliff directly above the lake. The cliff consists of limestone and possesses a notably slippery surface. Kaka Adi has cautioned us to be careful due to the abundance of moss covering the majority of our standing area. Additionally, there are numerous reed bushes swaying in sync with the wind. The rustling sound produced by these reeds resembles a whisper, evoking memories of a drama scenes featuring actors leisurely walking amidst a field of reeds while reminiscing their past.

We continued our trip to an iconic monument in Serui: Monumen Kasih Serui. Some people recognized this statue as “Patung Yesus” or The Statue of Jesus. 

There weren't many people when we arrived. At that time, there was only one couple and one family sitting around the monument. When we started strolling around the monument area (which consists of two parts: the monument and the yard), the other visitors left. There are stairs to access the monument area at the foot of the statue. 

So here is a description of the monument's position: the statue of Jesus faces the city of Serui and has its back to the sea. The statue is surrounded by stairs, allowing visitors to sit anywhere. I chose to sit on the stairs facing the sea. My colleague jokingly said that I sat right under Jesus’ armpit. 

In the distance, scattered islands rise gracefully from the waters, adding an extra touch of allure to the scene. These islands offer a glimpse of paradise within this grand tableau. I could see some parts of Waropen Island, which used to be part of Yapen Island Regency before officially separated in 2002.

From this distance, I witness the play of light on the water's surface. The sun casts radiant beams that dance and glisten across the ocean, creating a dazzling display of sparkling diamonds. The ever-changing interplay between light and shadow adds a dynamic element to the view, painting the scene with an ethereal beauty. I was hoping Namor the Feathered Serpent God would emerge from the sea and invite me to live in their underwater kingdom. Deep into the ocean where no one would find me.

Dag 11 - Paris del 1

Efter en god natts sömn vaknade vi upp till ett soligt och härligt Paris. Vi gick en morgonpromenad bort mot Paris sjunde arrondissement och satte oss på det populära Kozy basquet. Här beställde vi in smoothie och frukost och njöt av dagen vi hade framför oss.

När vi fick in våra tallrikar förstod vi varför stället var så populärt. Jag menar, kolla här.

Efter frukosten gick vi och spanade på Eiffeltornet ett slag och var stensäkra på att vi inte alls ville åka upp i det. Det fick vi tacksamt äta upp senare på kvällen, men det visste vi ju inte då.

Minns ni Linda och Gordon som vi träffade på en restaurang i Monterosso? De hade bott i Paris tidigare, och Linda tipsade oss om att åka hop-on-hop-off på Seine. Inte kunde vi säga nej till ett sådant pang-tips tänkte vi, köpte biljett och hoppade på båten.

Första stoppet på vår båttur blev Notre-Dame. Som alla kanske minns så brann det ju där 2019, och kyrkan är fortfarande stängd för renovering. Men vi kom, vi såg och vi åt en kaka. Alltid något.

Vi hoppade på båten igen, och den här gången hoppade vi av vid le Louvre. Vi hade inga intentioner av att gå in på museet, vi ville bara se på glaspyramiden.

Något man vid en första anblick kanske inte tänker på är att det är helt folktomt bakom oss på bilden, på en plats där det vanligtvis rör sig oräkneligt många turister. Men hur kommer det sig, tänker du nu när vi gjort dig uppmärksam på det. Jo, det var nämligen final i Tour de France just denna söndag och därför hade de spärrat av delar av Paris, bland annat precis här. Lite jobbigare att ta sig fram, men mycket finare kort.

Vi krånglade oss fram bland folkmassorna på jakt efter lunch som var både god och allergivänliga. Det tog sin lilla tid, men med ett nektarinstopp på vägen lyckades vi tillslut hitta något som passade allas magar. Samt en glutenfri croissant, som inte riktigt var värd besväret.

Linda hade gett oss ännu ett Paris-tips och det var att gå in på konstmuseet d’Orsey, ta hissen upp till våning 5 och se på post-impressionistiska målningar . Efter lunchen var vi både trötta och varma, och eftersom att Lindas första tips med båtturen var så bra litade vi på att hennes andra tips också skulle vara det. Framför allt kändes det lockande med lite lugn och ro på ett museum, sitta på en bänk och kolla på målningar och förhoppningsvis känna en AC blåsa oss i nacken.

Tji fick vi. Det var så mycket folk att vi knappt visste var vi skulle ta vägen. Vi åkte upp till våning 5, möttes av en idel ström av turister och bestämde oss för att ta något att dricka på caféet för att få vila oss lite. Är någon förvånad över att det även där var fullt med hungriga, trötta och överbetalande turister? Nåja, vi var ju också några av dem, så vi smälte in helt perfekt.

Men vet ni vad, efter regn kommer solsken och med lite ny energi i magen kände vi oss starka nog för att brotta oss fram till tavlorna. Först såg vi tavlor av van Gogh…

… och därefter tavlor av Monet. Sjävklart såg vi tavlor och statyer av många andra fantastiska konstnärer också, men vi var tyvärr inte tillräckligt intresserade för att lägga deras namn på minnet. Men fint målade de i alla fall!

Vi stannade tills museet stängde och därefter gav vi oss ut i hetluften igen. Och vad vi gjorde då, det går att läsa om i del 2.

I've been chewing on it but if Flamela and the Elf Queen are like supposed to be referencing Dark Elves rather than just say some poorly drawn dark-skinned folks then it's turning my opinions about the designs of the ambiguously brown characters from disappointed to aggrivated.

*Edit. Apparently, the super dark elf thing is explained in-universe as a rare trait in the royal line. That being said the more images I see in the artbooks does illustrate that the mangaka is really bad at drawing/coloring folks who arent pale. Between giving them Eurocentric features and being so inconsistent in coloring for the same lighting that Kabru, Kiki, and Kaka (and also Flamela) are really changing colors more than a chameleon at a rave.

That's all folks! And there goes the 3rd week of June! Just like that!

At least today went by fast, had a lil teary episode during lunch when Serkan got upset at me but I guess you could say by the end of the day, all was well? Although the morning started off sooo laggy.

Woke up at 6:30am and still left the house 8:35am -__- When I got to the parking lot, I did find a slot that's RIGHT next to the last shuttle stop. But I got pressured by seeing the East Shuttle that I just grabbed my bag and dashed out the car. I didn't even know I remembered to lock my steering wheel. Anyway, when I tried to run for the shuttle door, My wipes in a novelty tiny soda can snapped off my bag and literally slid under the bus. I was like ugh fuck it , I had no choice!! hahaha Yun pla kaka-9am plang. And theeen when we was at the TBIT stop I totally thought it was just the first stop and the bus driver had to ask me if I was gettin off coz thas her last stop in the terminals hahahaha. Soooo L A G G Y. I turned in my vacation request the other day! Yes, yes, yes! July 1-2 tas off ako ng June 30 and July 3 hehehehe!

The Kaliver Rebbe

Kaliv is the name of a small town in the North-Eastern part of Hungary, yet it is most famous as a Hasidic dynasty. According to Hasidic tradition, the Baal Shem Tov visited the town of Serentch, Hungary and blessed a childless couple that they would have a child. In 1751 a son was born to them, who would later grow up to be the Grand Rabbi Yitzchak Eizek Taub (1751-1821) Famous as renowned Torah Sage, Kabbalist, singer, and miracle worker, he became the Chief Rabbi of Kalivin 1781, thus founding an illustrious Chasidic dynasty that flourishes to this very day.

Reb Eizekel as he was lovingly known, was the first to introduce Hasidism to Hungary, and his enormous impact on eastern-European Jewry is felt to this very day. His memory is especially evoked in connection with old Yiddish-Hungarian songs like “szól a kakas már”, and other Hungarian folk songs, that were sung by mothers to their children for generations. Rich stories are attached to the birth of all his songs. He purchased the melody to his final song from a shepherd in the forest, who then forgot it. It’s words speak of longing for the revelation of the glory of god once again.
