Interesting thought

random thought: gotta wonder if idol culture is slowly being adopted as a counter culture of sorts. Both in Japan and several other countries where girls and women are given weird expectations bordering on double standards. like It seems to be moving away from being about conformation to the ideal and more about rebelling against how society think girls should be; dress a certain way, no bright colors, must have an orthodox job/interests, has to be feminine but not TOO feminine, etc. think about the common complaints against idols -"don't be too feninine" -"you SHOULD aim for an orthodox office job" -"you should be everything a man wants and more" in the case of Kaigai idols -"dont have interests relating to Japanese pop culture/anime because its cringe" -"Kpop is ok because its mainstream" (what jpop vs kpop arguments tend to boil down to. kpop isnt bad but its often seen as the societal norm this day and age.)

Last month, I made some fanart of overseas idols as part of Indie Idol July. I wanted to show all of my love for the community and the idols who have been beacons of hope, happiness and inspiration to not only me and my creative efforts, but to all their fans! Their performances always make anime cons and music events that much more magical!
