Kagiyama Yuma || World Championship Documentary Clip Translation of Yuma's coach/father talking about his rivalry with Shoma.
"I didn't think he'd win the gold medal but I think he still has a lot of growing to do, to be like Uno-kun. So this time, rather than gold medal, it's the same for any competition but anyway, I wanted it to be a competition for him to gain various experiences. So I think this pressure is probably a good experience for him. That's why I want him to keep going back and forth at winning and losing in this friendly rivalry together with Uno-kun. Although it's bad, I'm happy that he won a medal.”
Q. It'll be nice if Kagiyama-kun makes the national anthem play next time.
"Right... The long season is finally over. I'm really relieved. For now, the plans are taking shape for next season. After returning, he'll have to work his hardest at practice. " Source

Well, I have already ranted on what makes this one of the best programs I have ever seen here! so I will not rant here, except say that that 4F was a textbook example of a +5 quad jump.
This is Yuma Kagiyama of Japan with his Rain, In Your Black Eyes free skate last night at the 2024 World Championships, and I woke up my parents by how loud I was clapping for every clean element.

【The Naked Truth Talk】The Naked Truth Talk between Common DAYS and Kazuki Tomono Got Really Crazy【Part 1】 || Translation
youtube
Translated the talk part starting from 5:00 below.
"Pick me up in three days."
"I won't go back either."
K: "Let's just all stay here for three days."
We are refreshed!
"We just enjoyed the sauna and got refreshed so I'm thinking of moving on to our talk. First, please introduce yourself and talk about your career and such."
K: Tomono Kazuki. 24 years old. I'm a figure skater. My record is spotty.
K: Write it up like this...
"What place were you at World Championships?"
K: At World Championship...5th place and 6th place.
"Simply amazing."
"What about Nationals?"
K: At Nationals, 4...4, 6, 6, 5 and such. It's always been between 4th and 6th place since I turned seniors. The World Championships in which I participated as a pinch hitter was good and I got 5th and 6th place. Also last year I won a medal for the first time at 4CC and got 2nd place! I haven't won first place yet. I'll do my best.
"It's this year."
K: I'm aiming big.
Q. How long will you continue skating?
"You're 24 years old so... you've been doing it for 2 years since you graduated from college. So now... It's your second year since you graduated from college, right?”
K: Yeah.
"How much longer do you think you'll continue, actually? Speaking honestly. Your feelings for until when you want to continue and there might be a side of things where you can't continue either, but what is your goal, in your own opinion?"
K: The Olympics 4 years later...
"Paris?" *
K: Is it in Paris?
"Paris Olympics."
K: (My goal is) Paris Olympics but... I think it's better that way. Like... How to put it. Rather than go on sluggishly, to decide exactly until when but in reality I think I'll take it by year after year. If I have around 2 years of bad results I think it's better for my sake to just quit.
"So if we summarize it..."you're aiming for Paris (Olympics) but it all depends on results..."
K: That's my resolution.
K: ... You're surprisingly asking some serious questions. You're good at the naked truth. Let's go with this kind of situation.
"This will be an important conversation but, skating... At what age did you start it?"
K: I... It was at an early age.
"It was quite late, wasn't it?
K: I've already started. I've been going to the classes. But I was at leisure. I've been going to classes at Uenoshiba skate rink since I was around 3 or 4 years old. But it was later that I started learning from a teacher, so it was around when I was 1st or 2nd year in elementary school. It was when I was in 2nd grade that (I started learning) at a full scale.
"Ah, I see."
K: My first competition was when I was in second grade.
"So that makes it quite long, unexpectedly."
K: I've been doing this for really long.
"So if you started at 3 years old..."
K: I've been doing it for around 20 years. I was 4 years old, probably.
"So it's exactly around your 20th year"
K: It's including playing around. Since I started doing it probably at around 2nd or 3rd year of elementary school.
"By the way, having done figure skating up until now, was there any time when you wanted to quit?"
Q. Thinking about quitting
K: Of course there is. Didn’t you?
"We have times like that too but honestly, we wondered since Kazuki is active at the top, how it really is."
K: Although...I...Ah. (In the past) I only continued because I was afraid of my teacher.
"At the beginning?"
K: When I was in elementary school.
"I see"
K: Because, well, I'm already speaking about this in many places like magazines but, when I was little, I was afraid of my teacher so I dropped out of everything else I was learning -- well, rather than scary, they were strict. And, I didn't get yelled at that often but because I was a scaredy-cat... And when I did as I was told, I was able to take part in national competitions -- since men can take part, since there's not many of them. And after that it was fun for me, I made friends from all over the country.
"Come to think of it, he's a late bloomer since Kazuki didn't go to Nobeyama (Promising Newcomer Discovery Camp), probably."
K: Since I was a novice... Like, how should I put it... It didn't go (up) like this for me. It's been flat for a long time... Often without winning medals, although I didn't win them, I was always within the top 10. Surprisingly from the start, I had results but like, in between that place whether I'll be a candidate athlete or not. I was in there for a long time but can't be anything more than that. That, these past few, well after I turned senior, I think it's fine to say I improved after going up into seniors.
"So, to tell the truth, when was the point where you most thought you wanted to quit?"
K: My quitting point...
"Didn't you have a time where you were like, I'll seriously quit."
K: Ah, I don't have that. I have "Ahhh I wanna quit" but, rather than wanting to quit it's more like "I want to play around." It's more like I'm exhausted. But I probably don't have a moment when I wanted to quit.
"You like it."
K: Yeah, of course.
"Going with the flow of liking, what is the charm point of figure skating for you?"
Q. The charm of Figure Skating
K: (laughs)
"To people who don't know about figure skating. Like interesting parts about figure skating."
K: For me... Figure skating is... Well, other sports are like that too but, figure skating is a sport that shows the person's character the most. How that person lives, their personality, you can tell what kind of person they are from watching their performance. Like if you watch my performance, I think it's way too easy to understand. So, I think figure skating is where, just by looking at one glance, you can really understand "Ah this person is that kind of person." You can also see different sides of them. The person shines through from performances and such, by deciding on a theme. Since it's a sport where you use expression. You can't express it if you don't have it within you. The further you go-- well, even if you don't, the person shines through. Also, it's really good that no matter what level you are, anyone can be the protagonist. It really is like that.
"That's something the other sports don't usually have."
K: Right. When I saw (Yamamoto) Takumi-kun's final eagle, I cried my eyes out lol.
"You did cry."
K: I cried my eyes out.
"When I finished my performance at National Sports and went out, everyone was crying to the point that I was kind of taken aback. I wondered what happened."
K: It couldn't be helped. That was really, like... And it wasn't like I was involved that much with him either. But, even so, figure skating has that power to move people. So, rather than athletes who win medals at first or second places, there are times when the individuality comes out more in people who came in unrefined. There's a charm that is not limited to competitions in figure skating. It's a sport where you can make people emotional even if you're last place. It's not cruel, like... For example in a foot race, or like in other sports, there are times where people only see who comes in the first place. But in figure skating, each person has their own time, so regardless of what place they come, or what scores they get, that person gets to express themselves. Like with Takumi-kun if you ask me why I cried, during that eagle, during that smile, it felt like I saw all your skating life in front of my eyes-- that was the most I cried in all my skating life!
"No way!"
K: No no seriously, it's seriously, really a mystery. My tears just started flowing the moment I saw Takumi-kun's eagle passing by.
"The person who made you cry isn't even aware of it."
K: The juniors, and Taichi also cried but on the other hand, the closer you get, because you know them too well, surprisingly, like in my case, there are times when you don't realize it. Like, everything goes back to that eagle. I cried so much. It was such a good performance. Even the jumps weren't all that...
"I fell on them lol"
K: That was fine. Even if you fell on jumps, because it was a retirement match... It was really good.
"That time with Kazuki, Taichi and Kohei was funny."
K: I cried so much lol. That's because everyone's a protagonist, everyone can be the hero on their own accord in figure skating.
"In other sports you don't really watch one person for five minutes, with everyone else."
K: There are times when you're like... "You would do such a sexy choreograph like this even though normally you're so meek." That person's true nature comes out...
"We have more questions."
K: It was a long story. My bad.
"We'll cut it all."
Q. Your goal for this year?
"What's your goal for this year?"
K: My goal this year is...
"Your goal for this season"
K: This season... I never won a medal at Japanese Nationals. I want to win a medal at Japanese Nationals and move on towards World Championships properly, well, I did it as a substitute before but go on to World Championship as a proper representative and rather than a small medal, now for the short... In 2018, when I was the 5th place, I had a small medal for the free program and this time I had a small medal for the short program. I have two. Now I want the big medal. That might be my biggest goal. On top of continuing skating, I want a huge medal.
"I see, thank you."
"Next, I think you have many different skaters around you but having done skating yourself, is there anyone who makes you think "I can't win against the talent of this person", be honest.
Q. Someone you think is amazing
"This person has something different."
K: Someone I think who's like that? Up until now?  That's... Kagiyama Yuma, Yuma-kun. I also think about that for Sota-kun, Yamamoto Sota. Shoma-kun is like that too. Rather... How to say this... Yuma-kun or Shoma-kun, medals-- well Sota-kun is like that too, back when we were juniors, like at junior world championships, athletes like them- you get it. Their expression, their actions, it's different all around. They have something that's so amazing that it even pulls everything around them in. Unexpected-- how should I say this... Well, like, you get it, that this person is amazing. Yuma-kun and such, I've seen Yuma-kun's process of growth from up close. So I've strongly felt that. Lately.
"He really is good."
K: People who are good, it's like, it's a given that they're good at skating, isn't it? As a premise, they're really good.
"You can't put it into words."
K: Right, I feel from them the essential strength of athletes which I can't put into words. Anyone would be able to tell "This person will come through this year" after seeing someone who suddenly has a process of growth. I have quite a confidence in that. Like this year will be different, I felt that at an incomparable level with Yuma-kun. I thought that he'll be winning medals. This is kind of difficult.
"They have something that you can't express in words."
K: Like their aura, or something. The Olympian medalists. Shoma-kun was always like that too.
[Cut]
K: They have an amazingly loose screw in regards to practice.
"In a good way?"
K: In a good way. How to put it? Their limits are-- if it was someone ordinary, oh right, this is the most important thing. I think the people who get better at things have some talent, of course. But the difference between people who have it and who don't is that they don't think "Ah this is impossible!" At a limit which an ordinary person would think that, they can continue working hard without thinking anything. To the point where they have a loose screw. Even I, compared to other people, I think I'm a bit insane as well. But even at the level of ace athletes, there's a wall that keeps growing which makes us think "Are you for real" or "That's amazing". The people who makes us feel that way is the Olympians medalists.
"In truth, the world of sports is like that but the higher you go, the wall keeps getting higher as well."
K: I think it's that way anywhere. Probably even at companies, although I never worked, but probably there's a wall of a successful person in every industry which makes people think "ah I can't be like them".
"They have a loose screw somewhere."
K: That's probably important. Conveniently tricking yourself into loosening a screw.
"Athletes need to be quite do-M*, right? In order to push themselves."
K: To be able to enjoy that. There are painful moments too but you can have the most growth when you are passionate about it. So in the end people who can enjoy that have it good.

Translation Notes:
1. They mistakenly say Paris Olympics and later fix in the YouTube comments that it should be Milano Olympics.
2. Do-M is a slang in Japanese which stands of Super-Masochism. However the M and S character traits are different to what they’re known in Western side, and are not quite sexual. Imagine it as people who are more submissive for the M personality type, and more dominant for the S personality type. The internet probably has better explanations that delve into the topic further.
