Queen Shit
Imagine being one of the Kataang shippers who bullied Christine Boylan into deleting all her tweets and unliking all the Zutara fan art and posts publicly, thinking you won… only for her to become the new showrunner two weeks later.

Your bad Aang takes are a disappointment. Oh well. You know you can ship Zutara and disagree with canon endgame without being an Aang anti right?
Well, perfect stranger on the internet from the bottom of my heart I’m sorry to have disappointed you. Now, because I try to be self-aware I did go through my Aang tag to see if I’ve been particularly unfair to Aang. And in no particular order I’ve said: 1) I think as a protagonist he subverts a lot of common tropes and gender roles 2) I understand him as a grieving 12yo putting the Air Nomads on a pedestal, but it’s bad storytelling for the writers to act as if the Air Nomads were above reproach. 3) I think he was really trying to help Katara in The Southern Raiders but he ultimately came off as preachy and dismissive. Something I fault Bryke for btw, few things in life are as simple as their angel/devil dichotomy. Also I hate forced forgiveness narratives. 4)I’ve said that I don’t think that Aang could fully understand where Katara was coming from in TSR because his grief was different, not lesser, but different than hers.   5) I’ve said I wish that he hadn’t kissed Katara when she said she was confused. 6) I’ve said that I don’t know if Aang being a bad father in tlok is in character, but with the canon we’re given Kya and Bumi have a right to be hurt and angry. 7) I’ve said that it bugs me that people can forgive Aang and Zuko’s emotional outbursts but paint Katara out to be some sort of monster for her’s. 8)Hell I’ve even said it’s sad and unfair that so many adults on the show didn’t care that he was a kid.
Honestly, some of those are opinions on narrative choices and not necessarily shipping.
Finally with regard to K@taang and Zutara, I’ve said that I just don’t see Aang and Katara romantically. I’ve said it concerns/frustrates me that some shippers (and Bryke) seem to only care about Aang’s happiness. More than that, that I want Katara to have more than being defined as being the “avatar’s girl” and and for her to have a partner that can accept her rage along with her nurturing side.  I think that Katara would eventually feel suffocated on the pedestal he has her on and glimpses I’ve seen in the comics show a pretty imbalanced relationship. But again that’s the writers’ fault. I’ve also said that in the first few episodes I really liked that Aang that reminded Katara that she was still a kid, but then that gets lost in favor of her taking care of him. I don’t even like fics that demonize Aang and have stated that I feel that Katara and Aang should be in each other’s lives. I can’t imagine a post-break up scenario where they weren’t eventually close friends. I just don’t feel like it’s right to prioritize Aang’s wants and needs over Katara’s in the name of liking Aang.
I’m not quite sure how any of this can be taken as me saying that Aang is a bad character and I hate him. If you’re curious about what I’m like when I actually hate a character check my anti tags. I can like characters and not think that they’ve never done anything wrong in their lives. And that’s not even limited to shipping preferences. So thanks for stopping by.
