More holiday requests! Some Ace Attorney ones this year which are fun, I haven't drawn PW stuff in ages, haha. Some of these are from an Ace Attorney/Frozen crossover that i finished writing years ago and still haven't POSTED IT'S DONE WHY AM I LIKE THIS i just need to sit down and finish editing it one of these days

The last one is from a very disturbing Matt/Juan (well, more like the doomed love square of 2-4 with Adrian/Matt/Juan/Celeste) psychological horrorshow I wrote a long time ago during a pretty dark time in my life, as you can probably guess from the shot, haha. Definitely not for children or the faint of heart.

Beginning to think I have issues.

recognising the theme of grief in jfa is literally so important to getting anything out of it. phoenix and franziska are both grieving miles, though phoenix is depressed by this (refusing to engage with it at all) and franziska is in angry denial. miles is coming to terms with the death of his father and the metaphorical death of his mentor throughout the trilogy, but especially here. pearl is understandably devastated over the loss of her mother, which she only voices when she thinks she’s about to lose maya too. mimi is grieving ini, and her crime is killing the man she sees as responsible for the death of her sister. acro is grieving bat, and while attempting to kill the girl he sees as responsible accidentally kills his mentor. these crimes are supposed to be sympathetic, but not selfless - despite the justification of grief, they acted for themselves, because ini and bat are already dead. adrian and juan are both grieving celeste and both attempt to frame engarde, who they see as responsible for her death - a stance that alleviates both of them of responsibility, that justifies forging a suicide note. is it supposed to? engarde is the subversion to the theme in that he’s a villain who is evil because he enjoys hurting people. he is entirely self-interested, without any facade of grief or reasoning. the situation he puts phoenix in forces him to choose between his ideals (solving the case) and ‘self-interest’ (saving his friend at the cost of an innocent life). the bad ending, in which phoenix allows adrian to be convicted, reflects phoenix’s established tendency to depression and avoidance - after he wins the case, he wanders the streets alone, thinking about it in abstract terms. the good ending - adrian getting justice, pearl reunited with maya, miles and franziska coming to their version of reconciliation - is a hopeful one, opening the possibility of moving forwards

Ace attorney rightfully receives criticism for it's misogyny and treatment of female characters, but ill give it one (1) thing: 2-4's portrayal of how matt and juan only see celeste as an object to be used and thrown out, and how even when she dies she cannot escape being fodder for their stupid fucking rivalry is very, very cutting and well written.

OH. MY. GOD. OH MY GOD this case is phenominal! Farewell, My Turnabout is FUCKING FANTASTIC. I'm not done yet but like I'm so obsessed with this case.

Honestly I love everything about it: the clues, the characters, the setting, the dialogue, the way the case develops, maya's kidnapping (please find her edgeworth!!), etc. I just,, I LOVE IT.

I don't think I've ever liked a case as much as this one to be completely honest with you. I just need someone to reciprocate my excitement because the last case was doo doo poopy and I needed this case to be good and it exceeded my expectations.
