So, it's a common knowledge in the WoH fandom that many bad thing have happened to Zhang Zhehan and there have been many blogs talking about many different things about him.

And I know that the WoH fandom is still patiently waiting for him to be back and clear his name.

You all would be glad to know that a fan in China sent an email to China's Guang Dian aka the National Administration of Radio and Television for information then got this response with the red seal. This should be true because faking a red seal can get you sent to jail.

This is my translation for the email. I had never translated anything formal before so my wording can be a little off but this should convey most of the stuff correctly (noted that I took the Vietnamese translation of a fandom page to translate to English, I don't know Chinese except for some simple stuff):

You won't be able to find them online (on Weibo, specifically) because:

1. It's an email, duh

2. The girl who posted this on her Weibo has been harassed by ZZH's "antis", apparently. So she decided to make the post private and luckily, it has been spread so that people can know about this.

To reconfirm, ZZH is not banned nor boycotted in China. Guang Dian has never released anything on banning him. Why were his works taken down? Why did all of his endorment brands drop him? Well, ask the capitalists 🙂

It also concern an organisation called CAPA (well, that's all I can remember about it) trying to get him boycotted but this is a non-governmental organization.

There have been several of what it's called in Vietnamese "bài phản hắc", which are basically posts trying to clear his name by finding out the truth and fighting against all the stupid accusations against him that people have made online. The temple is not a Nazi-worshipped place, even some of the official Chinese pages have recommended people to come and see its cherry blosson garden. The photo with the mermaid statue has been photoshopped (badly, even) since the actual statue is 20-meters tall. The picture with the grave is not disrespectful since it's a temple for a fictional character and people have been taking pictures with it since forever.

He did not sexually harrassed Ju Jingyi (she has confirmed this a long time ago but people like to dig this up). They said he trapped her underneath but the truth is, his knee went through surgery and he could not get up too quickly. Ju Jingyi did know about this and she was working really well with him. They even worked with each other in another drama after this one and the behind-the-scenes always show how comfortable they were with each other. The two books he recommended never mention anything Nazi-related. And he is not a country traitor.

I don't know if he wants to make his comeback anytime soon (it has to be traumatized being accused of so many shits like that while being insulted and called names) or anything. But ZZH is innocent of all these accusations and people need to know that. For now, everyone must be careful and not just go on any Chinese platforms to talk about anything you want. Because this is a sensitive time and it's best not bringing more problem for ZZH.

Dee’s favourite: These Mortal Treasures, definitely. It is one of the first fics I read when I entered this fandom. It is also one that planted the idea of writing a dragon fic. I really love it. The story, the pacing, LWJ’s response to WWX, everything.

Ju’s favourite: Proximity to Knowledge! I love genius WWX, and I love WWX and his ducklings, and this fic gives me both so well! Jingyi pov is so much fun, and all the juniors doing whatever they can to be close to WWX and learn from him just makes me so happy. It’s a really good fic to read when you’re feeling down.

The Interview:

Q. When did you start writing fics? Did you have fandoms before this one?

A. I think around 2006-ish? I used to write character and quest mods for Baldur's Gate 2 before I went through the Knights of the Old Republic fandom and the whole ouvre of Bioware's games, although Dragon Age was the fandom I was most involved in and wrote the most for. There was of course a Harry Potter phase amidst all that, as one does, but also a good deal of Sailor Moon.

Q. What made you start writing for MDZS?

A. Definitely the worldbuilding and the issues and themes raised in canon. In a way, MDZS is the complete package of family issues, class issues, communal responsibilities, my childhood love for Wuxia/Xianxia, and the increasingly dangerous and volatile court of public opinion - which is also reflected very prominently in the MDZS fandom proper.

And let's not forget the Wangxian, because they're just a couple that works not just because they look good together (They do) and have a deep love for each other (Hell yeah they also do), but they also work perfectly together because they are constantly, stubbornly striving for the same values in a world where such values often come second after ideas of honor and performative righteousness.

Q. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

A. It's an ongoing one and it's called "To Start a Bridge From A Single Log" where I wanted to explore the possible uses of Cultivation outside of the super insular scope of the cultivation world and how that would impact both communities, because all of these hogging of spiritual resources, I cannot stand it. But it also has ridiculous amounts of Wangxian mutual pining so there's that, it's just all my favorite things piled up together.

Q. What’s your favourite type of fics to read?

A. Oh, it really depends on my mood at the moment like that's why rec blogs like this is just so *mwah chef's kiss* because there's just a ready selection of different stuff for different occasions! In the MDZS fandom, I do gravitate towards fics about Wei Wuxian finding a home and his place in the world outside of his Jiang upbringing, or fics where Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian just work together realizing their mutual vow, being a good role model for the juniors.

Q. What’s your favourite comment? Or type of comment?

A. Any comment is a favorite, honestly! Writing stories are just like talking to people right, so being answered is always nice :D I suppose whatever the comment is, it's just always really interesting and heartening to see that parts of what you're talking about resonates with other people, enough to get an answer in words :)

Q. What motivates you to write?

A. I think I'm inherently a very angry person. Like literally the way I set my career path had been to find what things made me the most angry and do my best to fix it, and I feel like that's also my approach to writing. I would tackle something I think is a problem or a question that makes me angry and try to find my way through it via the characters and worldbuilding - And even if in the end the problems don't get solved or the questions are not answered, there would still be dialogue incited and there would still be the process of seeing said problem from many perspectives as writing (and reading!) encourages you to do.

Q. Who’s your favorite author?

A. The authors that really stayed with me are the Shoujo mangakas of the late 80s and the 90s, because they gave me examples on so many different ways to express myself outside of the one-note "girls should be like this" sentiments that were still somewhat prevalent when I grew up. My favorite has to be Kyoko Hikawa, though. Other writers would probably be Margaret Atwood and Nnedi Okorafor because of the way they talk about many issues through stories so they're not directly talking about it but still kinda blatantly talking about it.

Q. What is your favorite trope to read and/or write?

A. Curtain fics! There's just something inherently telling about how a character approaches the everyday and its logistics, because in a way these everyday things around them are also the things that molded and shaped them to be who they are.

Q. Do you have any advice for new authors?

A. I guess start small? I used to teach piano and after all the godawful finger exercises and endless scales it's always SO nice and validating for the kids (and adults!) to be able to complete an actual song, even if it's just a tiny piece of twelve bars. And I feel like it's a bit like that with writing too, the joy of just like, finishing something with your own hands and then having people hear/read it is such a great motivator to do more. Like we could totally start with super simple goals and as we go on, the goals or the objectives could become bigger or more diverse.

Q. What do you think is the most important element in writing? Plot, characterization, relationship?

A. I really think it depends on what kind of experience you're looking for your readers to have? For me, some plots or concepts are so engaging that you'd be fine even if the characters are switched to another fandom, and some fics have such good characterization that it happening in limbo would be fine with me, that kind of thing. I guess it's also fun to experiment with each pressure point and see which feelings and reactions from readers (and yourself!) you gain from each you love the most and how to combine each element in a portion that works out for you.

Actors - I used to love Xu Kai but after the triple horror of Court Lady, Ancient Love Poetry and that esports mess with Miss Wooden Tree with Boobs, my eye starts twitching when he's mentioned for a role or even when I see a promo picture of him. He might go back on my good list at some point (I mean, I used to dislike Zhang Zhehan only to fall like a ton of bricks after WoH - great timing!) but right now any time I see his face twitch twitch twitch.

Hu Yitian is like a male Cheng Xiao - cannot act. His face doesn't do it for me either so I am just happy he mainly does moderns.

Cheng Xiao is the worst actress I've ever seen in a cdrama, which is saying something. She must have a hell of a sponsor but maybe they should stick her on a runway instead and not make me want to spork myself. She also keeps getting cast with fave after fave, as if she's on a mission to prove these men, who normally have great chemistry with anyone, cannot be defeated by her woodeness. When I think of the fact that she is about to be on my screen opposite Luo Yunxi, I begin to comprehend the cruelty of the universe.

The only good thing about the utter destruction of Zhang Zhehan (a topic I am not going to get into unless I rage stroke) is that there are two less Ju Jingyi dramas circulating out there. The only reason, she’s not the worst is because Cheng Xiao exists.

Dylan Wang and his handsome sheep face and his wooden lack of acting and the insane fact that they keep insisting on casting that man with the ultimate handsome miquetoast vibe as some violent, powerful, scary antiheroes, makes me long for...I don’t know what, but not a Dylan Wang drama. To paraphrase Groucho Marx, “whatever he is in, I’m against it.”

Wu Lei - he’s a decent enough actor but whoever thought he had the vibe for a powerful, wild, death on the battlefield barbarian general in The Long Ballad is the same person who keeps casting Dylan Wang as a badass. It burns my brain!

OK, switching to Korea. Kim Jung Hyun should make a comeback. He’s mega talented and his agency clearly leaked stuff to punish him for wanting to leave. Also, I don’t care how unprofessional he was - he was clearly having a mental heath crisis and was in an abusive relationship. Also, I don’t care if an actor is a bad person - his ex is a dumpster fire but she’s a good actress so she should act. I’d rather have a terrible person who can act (Lee Byung Hun), then a sweet person who can’t act (Taec.)

I am not sure if it’s an actors thing but whatever - people who ship actors in real life are insane and one of the reasons China had an excuse to crack down on fandom. (I don’t mean fun banter but people who genuinely believe X x Y are secretly banging. It’s called ACTING, people!)

Tropes: I love wrist-grab, noncon, amnesia, noble idiot, fakecest etc - all the tropes fandom hates either because they are overused or because they are problematic. I want my life to be original, wholesome and conflict free. I want my fiction to be the opposite.

Whoever makes period stories where the characters are modern characters in period garb should be set on fire.

Authors: Meatbun is one of the best authors and probably in Top 3 novelists I’ve ever read and people who do not appreciate 2ha (unless they cannot read it due to literally being triggered) have bad taste. And before anyone jumps down my throat for being an illiterate, I have been reading all sorts of things for decades, and was reading Euripides and Livy by third grade, took whole classes on scholastic writing and 16th century English poetry, can and do read books in three languages, and read an insane amount of both Russian and English 18th and 19th century novels.

Also, while I don’t want to compare average danmei and average het web novel since I don’t think I’ve read enough of either (I probably read over 100 web novels total but I think I’d have to read way more), a good/well-regarded danmei is way better than a good/well-regarded het web novel. I’ve never found the latter that made me really emotionally invested or one that had a wow plot.

On non-web novel front, Victorian novels and novelists were amazing. Also the whole worship of Hemingway spare style is stupid - Hemingway could get away with it because he was Hemingway. Your average author would vastly benefit from adding color to their writing.

People look down on romance novels because they are for women. Nobody looks down on those stupid spy thrillers which are equivalent for men.

If you haven’t read Jorge Amado, you wasted your entire life.

What Did I Watch: #4

Right, first of all, I didn't prolong my netflix subscription because even thought netflix's library is quite impressive and filled with many interesting stuffs from around the world, it just couldn't grab my attention. I'm not a movie buff like I'm used to and honestly, I'm too lazy to adding my watchlist.

Next, aaaahhhh.... these days I felt like wanting to watch some angsty romance. And it started with my sister's rambling about Love and Redemption. She's into Cheng Yi nowadays and I couldn't help myself not to stanning him. He's gorgeous, or maybe I'm just too absorbed with his performance as Sifeng.

Enough about him though, hahaha, I'm gonna talk about him more later.

So, in another different topic, you came here, want to know what did I watch in the past weeks. So here we go. As per usual starting with the completed ones.

1. Go Go Squid

Finally finished it. Finally get the hype, one year late. It's okay. They're cute. But for me, the ongoing friendship between Li Xian and Yang Zi even after they ended the filming is wholesome. Maybe it got all the tropes, the cliches, and I don't find myself the urge to recommend this to other people, yet I love it. I love how it managed not going over-the-top, easy-watch despite many foreign terms being thrown out, and cute. Like I said, they're cute and lovable. And sometimes in life, you need lovable things to keep going.

Kinda wish these 2 meet again in Republican drama with plot twists and angsty plot. (Yep, I love torture my ship)

2. Perfect and Casual

I just finished it yesterday. It's so easy to watch. It doesn't have any substances or life lessons. Except, it's okay to falling in love with your lecturer if he's Miles Wei, which is impossible. Hahahaha.

The soundtrack is good though. Kinda have that feeling early 20's Indonesian pop songs. But currently not available in Spotify Indonesia. Booo...

Now what I'm watching are....

1. The Blooms At Ruyi Pavilion Ep 5

Zhang Zhehan is national's treasure. Ju Jingyi is annoyingly beautiful. The story is simple but there are so much more to be seen. The action sequence is laughable. But I didn't come for the thrill-of-it-all. I came for my husband, Zhang Zhehan. Hahahaha.

2. Love and Redemption Ep 17

I didn't dare continue to watching it. It's good, and maybe it felt like too grand for my taste. It kinda reminds me of Star Wars and a little bit Greek mythology. But, Sifeng is just too pure for this world and I couldn't handle how poorly other characters treated him. Maybe I'm going to make an essay after finishing all 59 episodes, then drowning in despair because no more new episodes. Or maybe both of them, Cheng Yi and Yuan Bingyan are star-crossed lovers who destined to meet once in a lifetime. Maybe I'm the one who felt really terrible not be able to do anything. Love will find its way, afterall.

3. Watashitachi Wa Douka Shiteiru Ep 5

It's one of those days, you find a gem. You find a gem that it's so good, and you just want to keep it to yourself. Cherish it, preserve it. The story lies on tho ugliness of the people who watching it, I guess. Too soapy sometimes, and I need to take a break, just to breathe and remind myself. Thank god, I didn't met these people.

so uhhh here’s my mortal kombat oc! Because seeing all these mk ocs made me wanna talk about mine i made sometime last year, she’s a ghost named Ying Yue!

Basically she spawned from a headcanon i had about the lin kuei temple back when I rped Sub Zero, basically that it was haunted by ghosts before Kuai Liang found it and claimed it for the Lin Kuei, and she was one of the ghosts residing there

I’ll post more about her eventually! but for now, i’ve got a couple posts of her here and here

She was murdered by her fiance, in attempt for him to gain sympathy, inheritance, and gifts, so she was stuck roaming the temple she was murdered at, waiting for something new to happen. Eventually came along Kuai, and then his new clan. She was so excited for changes and life to be brought back the temple, she found herself trying her best to befriend the Lin Kuei. Though it took some time, Kuai Liang started to befriend her, and for reasons beyond that they’re basically stuck together with neither of them having anywhere else to go. So, she’s seen the Lin Kuei grow and change, people come and go, and the eventual invitation of the Shirai Ryu, in which so far she only vaguely knows Hanzo.

Shes very sweet and pretty easily impressionable mostly because of her kind heart, she just wants to see the best in everything and everyone but knows some people just aren’t redeemable, and she has trauma she needs to process and accept instead of trying to ignore them oops. It’s taken her a long time, and some help from Kuai, for her to even learn that her death wasn’t her fault, not at all.

Shes a pacifist, but she does like to join in on training with the lin kuei, or at least watch, sometimes kuai will even give personal lessons to her because she was so nice in asking lol so she knows a bit of fighting, and if she was alive she’d be more than happy to join the Lin Kuei.

She doe change slightly when she’s in a really bad mood, or herself or a loved one is threatened, she’ll grow ram horns (i just thought it looked coolest gbfjhbh) and have blacked out eyes and sharp teeth and claws and stuff, sometimes there’s blood, basically her repressed rage manifesting into her appearance i havent drawn it yet tho aaaa someday i will lmao

and if you looked at one of the posts i linked above yes i do ship her with frost but unfortunately it can only work in aus where frost stays as kuai’s student jhfbjhfbgjb so like idk redemption or she never left in the first place or smth listen im still working on it but grump and happy is a cute ship trope

Also her name means like reflection of the moon, i picked that name for her because under moonlight she's easiest to see!

Also also gbfhjbghj her face claim is Ju Jingyi a friend suggested it to me and she was so cute and perfect i had to make her Ying Yue’s face claim

drama recommendations

just a yes/no thing. i’ll probably add to this as it goes on. im scared of ppl finding this post and getting angry (that used to happen a lot on twitter) but honestly this is jus my opinion and it’s based on A) treatment of and development of female leads + B) whether or not the writing is interesting. i am not really forgiving of a lot of cdrama tropes so do factor that in.

the bad kids 2020: yes wholeheartedly yes please watch it right now actually. the best drama i’ve seen by far advisor’s alliance 2017: yes 100% it’s three kingdoms centered but focused mostly in wei kingdom. portrays cao cao as problematic but incredibly progressive. the women in this show are written with so much respect and dignity. i think it also becomes liquid misery-ish (sowwy i’m still finishing this up <3) but if you’re familiar with three kingdoms it’s probably not a surprise. legend of fuyao 2018: recommended if you want to turn your brain off. the acting is actually pretty good, writing leaves a lot to be desired. kind of a reverse harem. very heterosexual. also kinda horny. mostly no killer and healer 2021: first half is good. but...stop at episode 19. writing feels strong at first but it weakens gradually to match its production value (very low budget). overall not really go ahead 2020: i want to, bc of the familial themes (which are very strong and so realistically well written) but literally its SO incesty and weird that i just can’t. i didn’t even watch it all the way through. song weilong could not save this one the longest day in chang’an 2019: watch for production value and development of the main female lead + worldbuilding + attention to history. lots of blood, gore, and misery, so i would recommend watching it detachedly, and with some lower expectations for the writing side.  nirvana in fire 2 2014: really good but it is liquid misery. yes. i think the storyline rivals and even to some extent surpasses the first one winter begonia 2019: if you liked farewell my concubine you’ll like this. it shares most of farewell my concubine’s flaws, specifically being liquid misery to the point that it feels comedic. cinematography is good, writing is questionable, don’t hold fast to any female leads cuz they’ll either be written off or written to turn into a bitch. the actors are incredible. can you imagine how unbearable this show would have been without qin zheng and huang xiaoming? anyway i guess it’s...fine but i liked the first half of killer healer more than most of winter begonia. find yourself 2020: i haven’t finished this but it’s kinda stupid and funny. very questionable premise though. doesn’t really handle its serious themes very seriously, and song weilong kinda carries the whole show on his shoulders. if you’re bored...sure

Love Like The Galaxy [ period ] Zhao Lusi - just like Legend of Haolan, I am becoming way too attached to this spunky lil fictional character and her relationship to everyone in her life- I think I will make myself an emotional wreck if I don't take a break, so imma wait until I feel more at peace- im so emo about this show its getting bad

Moonlight [ modern rom ] Esther Yu + Ding Yuxi - this is such a cute drama omg. I haven’t gotten much further than the 6th episode as I quite honestly prefer the more depressing xianxia dramas lol, but whenever you feel sad or anything this drama is such a gem, I love the chemistry between the two main leads- it is so entertaining and so fun to watch.

Serenade of Peaceful Joy [ period ] - ngl although the costumes are so slay and the drama overall so beautiful, I can’t get my head into it. It’s a little too slow pace for me to really calm down and watch this. there’s also some long windy political court scenes which I don’t completely understand (maybe you have to know some history) but overall I don’t hate it. maybe at some point I will find my way back to it.

Love between fairy and devil [ xianxia ]  - sorry sorry I know this is such a fun a fan favourite but I- I'm lazy.

It’s because I find them to be terrible actors who also don’t make my hormones happy (I am a shallow woman who sometimes enjoys planks of wood if they are to my tastes. I have fun watching Alan Yu for the same reason men used to enjoy Pamela Anderson on Baywatch.)

I have seen JJY in four dramas and she was uniformly terrible in all of them - stiff, charmless, with zero screen presence and zero chemistry with her costars. Also her heavy make up is the stuff of nightmares. In general, she’s a beautiful woman made for print advertisements. Her one point of favor is she is always cast in dramas that aren’t probably my bag much anyway (something my bete noire Cheng Xiao, serial drama ruiner of dramas I would otherwise enjoy, needs to learn.) If she started being cast in things like some angsty xianxia opposite a fave, I would be way more pissed.

As to Joseph Zeng, he looks like a milquetoast and was so terrible in Time Flies he went on my ban list immediately. (Granted, it was a terrible role but he took that dead horse and beat it into the ground.) And then I saw the trailer for Rebirth and yeah - either he’s a terrible actor or he picks truly awful projects and I don’t care enough to figure out which.
