The first attack was on the wood Elves at the border of our land. The Danes ambushed them in the middle of the night under a Black Moon, when the Elves could not see the enemy until they were already upon them. With fire and steel they slaughtered the entire village of Manavik, leaving only one, Leafoir the princess of Manavik. Four days after the ambush she came to me, and with her dying breath she warned me and the King of the Danish army approaching.

Without fear, my noble lover rallied our kin to fight for our lands. Within a fortnight, five thousand warriors, men and women, marched off to avenge those butchered in the sacking of Manavik.

Another fortnight passed before we received any word. The message was a grave one indeed. It was a bittersweet message, for my love was still alive but the message itself brought back the truth of what had happened in that peaceful Elven village.

The troll came quaking into our village. He had run the entire way back from Manavik. Out of breath and in his deep rumbling voice he pass along the heavy message.

“A message from the King, my Queen.” He started, “We made it all the way to Manavik and found none alive and gave proper burials to all those whose lives were taken. The entire village was burned to ashes as the young Elf lady said. The fires spread through the forest miles in each direction. For four days we searched for a sign of the enemy, but we found nothing. The scouts say there are no signs that the enemy entered deeper into our realm, they seem to have retreated.“

“A cut and run” I interjected.

“Precisely, my Queen.”

“What does my lover plan to do now? Will it be war with these savages? The dwarves have begun to rally their armies and gather under the Northern Mountain. The Huldra have moved to the edges of our borders to keep eyes for any scouts or ambush parties. Even the Moorians have begun to move toward the eastern borders to prepare for any enemy that thinks they can march into our land and murder our people.” This was new to me, the act of War that is. For the only wars me and mine had ever known were those had amongst the Gods.

“The King intends to stay within our borders for he would rather not risk all out war with these men” The Troll said, “He will personally oversee the mission for a moon cycle in order to guarantee this was an isolated attack. He will return before the winds of the north begin to blow.”

“Very well.” I replied. “Thank you for delivering this message, a hero in your own right. Please, drink and rest. We will need you back with our King to defend our borders should there be another attack.”

And so the troll bowed, and left to regain his strength. And three days after he brought the news, he was back off to the front line. The message I sent with him was to let him know his first child was growing in my womb.

MLS players named to 2018 FIFA World Cup squads

May 14, 20181:30AM EDT

LAFC right back Omar Gaber and Orlando City center back Amro Tarek have made the cut for Egypt’s 29-man FIFA World Cup provisional squad announced Monday.

Egypt national team head coach Hector Cuper will select his final 23-man World Cup roster from this group. While provisional rosters are due to FIFA on May 14, participating teams have until June 4 to finalize their final 23-man squads for the tournament. The 2018 World Cup kicks off on June 14 and Egypt play in Group A against Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

Both Gaber and Tarek were involved in MLS Week 11 action on Sunday and both went the full 90 minutes. Gaber featured at right back for LAFC in their 2-2 home draw against NYCFC. Meanwhile, Tarek and Orlando City were on the losing end of a 2-1 result against rivals Atlanta United FC.

Seattle Sounders center back Kim Kee-hee was not named to Korea Republic’s provisional roster.

Among other squad news, former NY Red Bulls forward Tim Cahill was included in Australia’s 32-man list announced back on May 6.
