One hope I have is that if we ever go beyond the current known world of Thedas, we get to see other cultures influenced by real ones.
Even if we don't introduce any new races, this would be a fantastic opportunity for minorities to have their voices heard and represented.
I don't want each race to feel like a monolith in the case of the Qunari or only limited to two major factions in the case of the elves and dwarves.
Each should have thriving and varied cultures outside of the known setting, and I really want mixed-race cultures as well that don't have the power imbalance of Tevinter and Andrastian nations. It shouldn't just be the Qun.
However, I do not trust BioWare's big-name writers (Who are all White to my knowledge) to get this right. Considering how they've written certain factions to 'represent' peoples of color, with these factions turning out to be morally dubious. Namely Tevinter and the Qunari.
And even if they were willing to do research, the small details that only come from living within that culture, that makes them feel alive in stories, will be completely absent. It's why diverse writing teams are so important.
That and I want to give David Gaider the middle finger for saying Asians don't exist in Thedas. Not cool dude.

I wanted to say there are two middle fingers up to Gaider and the whole writing team. At least I speak for myself. I cannot speak for Blue.
But yes, let's just say this blog is the anti-thesis to what a lot of dragon age does. Where dragon age writers use oppression narratives to play with the story, minority fans have been using their own pain and transforming it to weave beautiful narratives and fanwork, showcasing what dragon age could look like if they dared to listen to us.
It's very frustrating to be a minority fan. A lot of times you put so much of yourself into your work, and then you see these brown paper dolls getting thousands of notes for a whitewashed version of your existence. You feel the need to water yourself down. You feel the need to make yourself smaller so you can fit the narrative.
This blog is trying to fight that by saying no, we are here. You used our stories to write your narratives and you're not pushing us out. We will continue to keep shining light on minorities in the fandom in hopes that our voices will finally be heard.
Please keep submitting your art. But we are also sorely lacking story recs. Your meta. Your bioware crit. Your commission posts. And even if you don't submit feel free to tag your work as #thedasincolor as we track that tag (please note that tag is for minorities to find other minorities not for white gentiles to post their brown paper dolls. This does not apply to our Splash of Color posts which are open to all)
This blog is a labor of love of both Blue and I and we couldn't do it without the help of all of you.

I feel like I learned a lot in those two years. I didn’t plaster on textures I found on the internet cause I was lazy and drew all those flowers on lucky’s shirt myself and I do like the result better. I only know how to light things one way but goddamn it I am going to master it XD. I was still learning how to get the swirl in the curl and it’s embarassing how messy 2020 curls are compared to my current curls but I’m still not happy with my curls But my hands are passable! Wooo I can’t wait to redraw this is another 3 years or so to see how much better I do.
Lucky is a girl in this piece, but he/him pronouns still cause manners :/
