Delibird Facts
Tumblr media
In honor of the upcoming holidays, here are Delibird Facts!
-The scientific name for Delibird is "Avis Holius" which roughly translates to "Holiday bird"
-Delibird are in the Spheniscidae family, making them related to pokemon like Empoleon and Eiscue
-Delibird carry food and other materials in their tail sacs. While they often give this food to other people or pokemon, they will politely refuse if they have young they're caring for
-Delibird are biologically designed to overcollect more food since they end up giving so much away
-While their food has helped many people in desperate times, don't expect to always
-Delibird mate for life
-Yes, Delibird can fly. They just don't do it often. It's actually surprising they can fly, since their wings are very weak and their bodies are very fat
-Their blubber helps keep them warm in cold climates. The Delibird in alola usually have less blubber
Tumblr media
-You'd think that with their webbed feet and blubbery bodies, the Delibird would live near water, but there is almost no water on the icy mountain peaks where they make their homes. Their bodies are the biggest hint thst they're recently diverged from Empoleon
-While they can swim well, they're very buoyant and can have trouble swimming in deep waters
-While Delibird were common depictions of Santa, many Unovan movies had instead made Beartic Santa which has spread, so now Delibird are seen as Santa's helpers during the holidays
-Delibird are one of the most common pokemon for post office workers for how much they can carry in their sacs
-Delibird with the largest tails are the most respected in their flocks
-Delbird court each other by singing in groups. The tunes they sing vary between each group, but the songs they sing are called carols
-Delibird will also give their partners rocks as gifts (if I hear someone say anything about how that's stupid, please note how humans do the exact same thing)
-When Delibird first hatch, they come out with completely white down. They gain their red feathers as they reach adulthood

another pokedex in blockbench, this time johto's original! it was fun to work with the moving parts and i was able to avoid a couple mistakes i made in the process of making the hoenn pokedex! i won't be doing kanto's original pokedex as that's already been taken care of by brandon james greer, a pixel artist on youtube who inspired this project with this video. i really enjoy the way he talks about his process, it's very helpful!

Pokedex Challenge #156 Quilava quilava is so nice like a little speedy boi love it
the colors are straight off of the gen 2 sprite
You can see what pokemon I've done so far here. It'll let you know what's already been made, and probably just waiting to be uploaded. Patreons get to see everything first way ahead of time usually straight after I finish drawing it, so if you wanna see stuff early (including art outside of the 'dex challenge), be sure to check that out. ______________________________________________________

Do you have Heracross facts? They're my favorite
Literally was about to make a post about them lol
Heracross Facts
Tumblr media
(Art by Sanosuke Sakuma)
-The scientific name for Herracross is "Chalkalos Mekerato." Chalkalos from the word "Chalkós" meaning copper, the word "Megálo" meaning big, and the word "kérato" meaning horn. The rough translation for their name is "Big copper horn"
-Heracross are coleopterans, making them related to pokemon like Pinsir, Ledian, Vikavolt, and Escavalier
-While they're related to them, Heracross also get into battles with Pinsir and Vikavolt for trespassing into their territories
-Heracross's horn is never used to hunt and is only there for defensive purposes
-In many places around the world, there are Heracross competitions where people see how far their Heracross can throw something using their horn
-Herracross diets consist mostly of tree sap, but sometimes they'll eat nectar and honey as well
-While they rarely open their elytra, Herracross can fly (not very well, but they can). However, they're unable to fly when mega evolved
-Heracross wings are mostly used to help regulate their body temperature
-To fight over territory, to find food, and to attract mates, Heracross will duel each other with their horns
Tumblr media
-Female Heracross are more likely to have a mutation that gets rid of their horn. This is really damaging for wild Heracross, so these Heracross are often caught and brought to sanctuaries
-Like Machoke and Conceldur, Heracross are often used at construction sights for their strength
-Unlike many other bug types, Heracross don't lay many eggs at a time with the most common number being 2
-Heracross smell using their antenna
-Researchers theorize that the reason Heracross have such large horns was to help them forage for food, as they'll often loft trees and borders to find it. It could've also been to protect from predators, but they don't have many natural predators
-Heracross mothers lay their eggs underground. They dig these holes using their horns
-Heracross prefer to live in dark forests, living near large decaying trees
