I can go from Kevin Gates to Duke Ellington real quick then Nina Simone ya ass into some Jilly from Philly then we will end in meditating to Tibetan Bowls
Jill Scott is the most beautiful woman i鈥檝e ever laid my eyes on. Jilly from Philly? Yea. Yes. And then she got the nerve to have an amazing voice? Please 馃槶 Marry me.
Tryna listen to more jazz and classical this year and also get back in my indie bag. I would love to listen to more neo soul as well. I love Jilly from Philly & Cleo Sol.
The original plan was this: I would drive up to Chicago, take a flight from MDW to LGA that would get in around 4:30, and I'd leisurely make my way down to JFK to meet Jilli for our 12:30am flight to Rome.
However, just as I was about to leave my house at 9am, I was notified by Southwest that my flight was cancelled. As were all of the rest of the day's flights between Chicago and NY. I called customer service and tried a variety of combinations, flying from and to various airports within two hours of Central Illinois and NYC. No dice, everything was sold out. They tried to rebook me on a flight two days later.
At this point I opened up like twenty browser windows and got searching on non-Southwest flights. I need to piece together something that a) would get me to JFK in time for the flight and b) wouldn't cost literally $2,000.
I found a single flight from Indianapolis to Philly that wasn't heart-stoppingly expensive and would get me in early enough to take a train or bus to NY. Booked it. Got in my car and drove to the Indianapolis airport. Flight was delayed, but only by half an hour.
We boarded. We left the gate. Then a hold was put on all flights to Philadelphia because of weather. We sat on the tarmac for over an hour. Eventually we got in the air. Landed in Philly at 8pm.
At this point the only thing that could possibly get me to JFK in time was an 8:55 Acela train that was jaw-grindingly expensive, but I sucked it up and booked it. Summoned a Lyft to get from PHL to the train station. Got into the Lyft. Burst into tears. The (male) driver had absolutely no idea what to do and started frantically offering me coffee and sandwiches.
Took the train to NYC. Then got on the LIRR to the AirTrain. Got to JFK at 11:15pm. Sped through check-in and security and finally got to the gate, where Jilli had already been sitting and waiting and panicking for two hours. Burst into tears again.
Then sat on an airplane for 8 hours and a shuttle bus for an hour and finally, FINALLY we are in our hotel in Rome. It's extremely hot out and will continue to be extremely hot throughout our trip. We're exhausted but we're attempting to power through until it's a reasonable time to go to sleep. Tonight: our first Italian pizza. Tomorrow: the Colosseum. Okay, bye.
Oh right, and that's the Supreme Court building, I think?
