As many of you may know I've been doing some speaking engagements. Talking about working in entertainment. Recently, I've been contacted by a few videographer societies to speak to their membership. I've never really considered myself a Cameraman, Cinematographer, or News Photographer, but when I look back in my career, I have shot just about everything as a camera operator. Being freelance, I've worked a lot of jobs so I don't list everything. Working on any job can be a grind, but when I look back on it, you’ll always remember the fun moments and the people you worked with. Here's a small highlight of some of my jobs as a camera operator...
ABC Affiliate News Photographer Ft. Myers, FL
CBS Affiliate News Photographer Rochester, New York
NFL Buffalo Bills Game Videographer
Major Indoor Lacrosse League Videographer Buffalo
LA Dodger’s Spring-Training Camp Baseball Chief photographer
Formula One Racing - EFP Videographer
LA Dodger baseball 2 Seasons as 3rd Base Camera Operator
TVG Studio Jib Operator and Camera Operator
Entertainment Promo Videographer Rochester, New York
Post Oscars Remote Oxygen Network
PBS in New York And California Both Studio and ENG
Jones Intercable Commercial Camera Operator and Studio Camera Operator
Travel Videographer- Sweden, Hawaii, Mexico, Palm Springs and Belize.
Various Commercial Productions as a Camera Operator in Hollywood
Two Independent Short films
Public Service Announcement
And my latest work as a cinematographer for a feature-length horror film “Bottle Monster”
Tumblr media
That list is just off the top my head, with so much more that I won’t think of until after I finish this. I always saw myself as a director and a producer, even if somebody else was directing or Producing. The focus is always a job at hand, but working with different directors and producers gives you insight experience and knowledge of handling other situations. It was getting paid to go to film school, free lessons, and learning from their mistakes without that consequence. Being the camera operator I have a different vantage point and could offer different suggestions for shots.
Tumblr media
Even today, whenever I work as a technical director, I still find work to be a study. I'm still learning from both good and bad directors, how to handle situations, how to adjust to working with a variety of producers, how to work with crews to get the best show possible. Over the period of the last 12 years, I've been working with some of the best directors and producers in Hollywood. It's because of those experiences that continue to make me a better director/producer.
So when I do speak at workshops or seminars, it is those experiences I've had and continue to have, that I talk about. Working in Hollywood has taught me a lot and continues to teach me today. My goal is to convey my working knowledge to the next generation to help them succeed.

Located in paradise, Isla Mujeres, Mexico, “Mystery” is a 4′ Shoal Draft, Fin Keel, Masthead Sloop, with 6 feet of headroom throughout, wide 11.3′ beam and a respectable 34′ length that is perfect for a couple, yet easy to single hand.
7 knots easy, Fast cruising sailboat, never raced, currently owned by a marine mechanic, and the previous owners loved this boat, putting their heart and soul into it, and I continued that tradition.
Many brand new items and maintenance, $20,000+ spent in 2018, on a boat that was already in amazing condition. Receipts and logs kept. I bought this boat in New Brunswick, sailed up around Nova Scotia, along the US coast mostly outside, to dry Tortuga’s, Havana Cuba, then to Mexico- entirely single handed for 3,000+NM.
Never did I feel this boat was incapable of getting me home, and she performed flawlessly in all weather, on all tacks in 5 foot depths or 5,000+.
Dickinson Fireplace kept me warm sailing with the winter snow in Maine, to the Caribbean weather off the keys n Cuba, the overbuilt 20hp diesel engine started first push and continued Everytime when needed.
Sailing however, is where this boat shines. Fast, turns on a dime, easy to handle, and rides the waves instead of crashing through them.
I have allergies, so this boat was entirely redone inside and kept spotless. Check “equipment” list for full details.
Currently docked in paradise, Isla Mujeres Mexico, one of the best hurricane holes around, and a place many boaters come to live in and retire.
Boat will be sold 50% off if she sells in Mexico, ***otherwise I’ll be sailing her back to Lake Ontario next year to list at full price $30,000 Canadian.
I’ve started a new career and business, I’d prefer to stay in Canada, hence the discount.
If you buy Mystery, I’ll come out and teach you everything you need to know about this fine boat, and get you ready to go for as long as it takes. Marine Mechanic and Marine Welder, this boat has gotten the best of everything.
Yanmar 2QM20- notoriously reliable workhorse, starts first push Everytime. Many spares, belts, filters, extras for 1-2 more years.
Extensive list of new items.
-New Jib, Custom Sobstad, luff tape, battens, reefable 2018 $3,000 -New Stainless prop Shaft 2018 -New Cutlass bearing 2018
-New Mantus 35 Anchor, oversized

New J/121
The new J/121 is a 40’ offshore speedster that can be day raced or distance sailed by just 5 or less crew… the best short-handed J ever….
The first J/121 was launched in Rhode Island this week. Within 15 minutes the Southern Spars carbon deck- stepped mast was installed, shrouds pinned and the next few hours the rigging systems were assembled.
By late afternoon, the design and build team, several suppliers and the new owner, were rewarded with a beautiful first sail on Narragansett Bay. The J/121 took off with the very first puff once the new carbon North Sails were raised, and even with twice the normal number of crew onboard the boat responded immediately. There is a light touch on the wheel, combined with a big boat feeling of substantial stability and control. Everyone is raving about the uniquely open, secure and comfortable cockpit design on this boat. There are versatile trimming and driving positions and clear/wide paths for crossing the boat during all manoeuvres. The twin wheel system with floor mounted traveler provides open access to the back of the boat and great visibility of headsails from the helm both while sitting and standing.
This exciting first sail and introduction to the J/121 did hint at her speed potential both upwind and down. After sailing close hauled for a few miles tacking back and forth and tweaking shroud turnbuckles, jib leads and inhaulers, the team was excited to turn the corner and try out the A2+ asymmetric spinnaker. The spinnaker filled and the boat accelerated quickly and confidently, jumping to double-digit boatspeed with ease.
Hull #1 will be featured at the Newport RI and Annapolis Shows, and hull #5 is headed for Melbourne in the early new year.
About the J/121
The J/121 is the answer for those seeking a boat that offers compelling performance with less crew, all-around sailing versatility, low maintenance, and is fully ocean capable to be delivered on its own bottom anywhere. The J/121 is a return to the shared adventure, sail-with-friends style of sailing and racing. This design hits all the hot buttons for J/sailors, but will appeal to new entrants to the sport who are drawn to turnkey adventure sailing with a pre-planned event schedule and readily available event support only the J/Network can provide.
Creating the best short-handed J ever starts with a hull shape that excels on all points of sail. Straight-line speed is the name of the game and is achieved by having a low drag, efficient hull with high form stability and exceptional balance. Add to this a highly engineered carbon rig package, an L- shaped low VCG keel, infused composite construction, and a water-ballast assist system that adds nearly 400 kilos (4 big guys) of crew weight to the rail and you have the J/121.

Simplified Sail-Handling
Handling a 40 footer with five or fewer crew requires a rig, sail and deck plan that simplifies sail handling. New technology developed for the Vendee Globe, Volvo Race and other extreme offshore sailing events, is trickling down faster than ever, particularly in new furling systems. The J/121 class sail inventory features an AP furling J1 jib, a hoistable furling J4 inside the forestay, a furling Code Zero flown from the bowsprit, and an all-purpose A2 asymmetric runner with a zip hoist and snuffer takedown. Each headsail can be furled or snuffed, meaning less hands on the foredeck and more compact sail stowage below. Combine that with a mainsail on slides that can be quickly adjusted to three different sizes (via a double reef system) and you have a versatile, manageable sail combination across most wind/sea conditions.
Versatile, Ergonomic Cockpit
J/121’s ergonomic cockpit builds upon the award-winning J/111 design, with excellent working space, protection from the elements behind a soft dodger or hard canopy, and exceptional twin steering stations that allow the driver to straddle the wheel and reach all the mainsail controls while driving. Clean line sights forward from the helm and trimming positions provide immediate gear-changing input. The hydraulic backstay system features a remote pump and release button on the forward face of each wheel binnacle. Water ballast controls are cockpit led so that the on-deck crew can easily manage tank to tank transfer. Electric primary and secondary winches are available (and class legal) for push button trimming ease.
J/121 Spacious, Open Interior
When the team needs moments of respite, the J/121 interior is clean and simple but beautifully finished with a feeling of space not often found in fast offshore racers. The interior is offered in Herreshoff classic (white with varnished trim accents) or modern GP Racer (white on white). For the “armchair navigator,” both onshore and offshore, there is no substitute for a comfortable nav station to house all of today’s modern electronics and entertainment systems. The L-shaped galley features a stove, SS sink, and large icebox with storage drawers and shelves to feed the hungry crew. Amidships settees are full-length for sleeping and offered in over/under configuration. The head/shower is aft to starboard near the companionway, perfect for offshore sailing. Forward of the main bulkhead is sail storage with an option for a removable V-berth.

Marine Products Specialists Offer Excellent Tropical Storm Preparedness Tips
Your Marine Products Professionals Help You to Withstand the Big Storm Surge
Raritan Engineering Company would like to share with you this week some amazing suggestions regarding tropical storm preparedness tips for you and your friends.
Your marine products experts know that if your marina has floating docks, the pilings should be high enough to withstand the storm surge. Most marinas built after 1992, when Hurricane Andrew wreaked havoc with floating docks in South Florida, now have 18-foot tall pilings.
The two most extensive articles appeared in July 2008 “Gear for Battening Down Ahead of Storms,” and “Tropical Storms Dos and Don'ts,” from November 2011.
Our first choice in a storm is a haulout facility, preferable well-inland and out of the path of the storm. The facility shouldn't be vulnerable to storm surge, and it should be equipped with fixed anchors to tie your boat down. Second choice would be a hurricane hole with good holding, again well inland and out of the storm's path.
Neither of these boats are tied for a storm, but they demonstrate key points regarding positioning and length of a spring line. The longer the spring line (or any dock line), the more elasticity you will have in the event of a storm surge.
Your Marine Products Analysts Suggest Not to Leave Yourself Vulnerable to Storms
• Dock line size varies both with boat size and expected wind speed. Your marine products specialists feel that boats docked in hurricane or other severe weather areas should consider going up a size from common recommendations. However, be sure your deck cleats can stand up to the loads (see point below).
• Loads on the cleat of a 35- to 40-foot boat during an actual hurricane can exceed one ton. While boat building standards (the American Boat and Yacht Council in the U.S.) specify load-carrying ability, some older dock cleats are not up to snuff.
• If your boat is 30-feet or longer and you do not yet have mid-ships cleats for attaching spring lines, consider adding them at the next opportunity. These should be sized and backed in the same manner as bow cleats, since loads are the same or greater.
• Removing canvas and sails reduces windage. Specifically, remove the furling jib, one of the most common storm casualties. Dodgers and other canvas will also suffer if left up during the storm.
• Don't leave anything on deck. Even dense objects can be blown across the deck and do damage, or be lost overboard.
• Use plenty of fenders. Fenders need to protect you from the dock and neighboring boats. A fender board can be particularly useful in some scenarios.
• Floating versus fixed docks. Properly designed floating docks are generally considered a safer option than fixed docks, with some important caveats. The support pilings must be high enough for the predicted storm surge.
• Lastly, any marina facing significant storm surge is simply not safe, but those protected from a long fetch by a low wave barrier are particularly vulnerable.

New Oceanis 41.1 ready in Sydney
The New Oceanis 41.1 will be at CYCA this Saturday.
It is a great boat for racing in the Harbour and in the offshore series while still maintaining the comfort of a cruiser.
With well over 120 hulls sold in less than a year, this new Beneteau Oceanis 41.1 is already proving to be a worldwide hit and orders are piling up in France.
We decided to order the performance version (hull #82) with deep L shaped keel, black composite wheels, performance pack with black carbon sails, German mainsheet system, three blade folding prop, adjustable backstay and jib car adjustment, asymmetric spinnaker rigging, B&G electronic package and more.
But it is also equipped with all the comfort of a cruising boat with a three-cabin and single head, classic mahogany interior with the full forward facing double bed and twin cabins aft. We have enhanced the luxury and feel by adding upgraded Monument upholstery with the Taupe Ambience package and a saloon table extension.
For easy of use and comfort, we have selected a bow thruster, Stainless steel double bow roller, electric cabin top winch, VHF with remote handset, deluxe cockpit table, additional water tank, outboard engine bracket and more.

Swift Trawler 30 for sale in Sydney All Swift Trawlers powered by Beneteau feature a long list of superior qualities. But it’s the speed, comfort, stability and fuel efficiency working in perfect harmony which is the real secret behind Beneteau’s Swift Trawler series. It’s what makes the trawler truly transformed.
Swift speed
The Swift Trawler features the speed other trawlers might brag about, but with a style and efficiency that could only come from Beneteau. The sleek, semi-planing hull designed to cut through the waves with a minimal resistance is in perfect union with the Swift Trawler’s robust engine, allowing it to deliver maximum performance.
Swift comfort
All trawlers, by their nature, have plenty of room and a steady ride. This reflects their working heritage where optimal space and stable footing were a necessity. Beneteau goes a step beyond. We’ve used our experience in designing sailing, as well as power vessels, to transform the trawler.
Swift stability
The same Swift Trawler hull that delivers effortless speed also delivers unsurpassed stability and easily manoeuvred direction.
Swift efficiency
In a time of rising fuel costs, economy has never been more important when choosing a trawler. Beneteau chose the most fuel-efficient as well as the most environmentally green engines available for every one of the Swift Trawler range, giving your family many more memories per tank.
