Thank you for reminding me of this!! I was late with my NaLu Day fanart, so he didn't get to see it, and I was too busy in September to make something for Gruvia Day.

But this time I was able to send a Jerza fanart (an old one tho) and Mashima saw and showed it on the live stream 🥰🥰💙❤

Jerza head canon I thought of while rewatching FT

• note: This is all based on the assumption that lacrima technology is progressing, similar to the way our media coverage/internet/phones progress.

• During the 7 years where the group was trapped on Tenrou, the media coverage was high. Eventually as the general public began to believe and accept that the wizards were not returning and people stopped reporting on it. Records and reports were stored in several local libraries/archives.

• Immediately after Ultear and Meredy break Jellal out of prison they then have the difficult task of telling him what really happened on Tenrou. In the year before the breakout, Jellal had held faith that Erza was alive, and after hearing an insider’s point of view he starts to panic and waver in his faith. Poor man has had some trauma; He starts to have a panic attack due to the mix of hope and despair he feels. He had been clinging to the feeling of hope of Erza being alive for so long, and now feeling despair at the thought of a world without her.

• Ultear takes Jellal under the cover of night to break into a library (no security, who would break into a library amirite) and keeps watch while he reads over all of the news coverage. Meredy was supposed to wait at their safe house, but she decided to go on a trip of her own, breaking into a vendor stall that happened to be selling Fairy Tail merchandise. She intends to commit one last sin.

• After consuming ever piece of knowledge he can on the matter, and Ultear urging him to wrap up as dawn approached, they finally head back to the safe house. Meredy is home and asleep. Jellal locks himself in his room, where he has one of the worst weeks of his life. He still wants to hold faith yet the evidence was damning. Not a trace of the island found, the ether nano readings, and the passing of time. He feels helpless. What’s the point of continuing; The most important person is gone. His mind eats him up relentlessly.

• Ultear gives him some space, he has a lot to process. For 5 days she brings meals to his doors and knocks each morning and lets him know she’ll be in the yard training with Meredy. He never verbally answers. At first he doesn’t eat, but caves after the huger gets to be too much. He always makes sure to not make a mess, but he never joins Ultear and Meredy at the table.

• On the 6th day Ultear has to make a run into the nearby town for some groceries. While she is gone Meredy knocks on Jellal’s door, no answer. She waits a few moments and knocks again, no answer. Now she’s annoyed. She ends up picking the lock and open the door, where she sees Jellal sitting on the ground looking like a hot mess. She walks over to his pit of despair silent figure and sits on the ground next to him, leaning her back against the bed mirroring him.

• She hands him a box, poorly wrapped in newspaper, and refuses to budge or stop staring him down until he opens it. Inside the box is an Erza figurine (with 2 interchangeable swords!), an Erza plushie, and a poster of the Fairy Tail Guild (he notes the Sorcerer Weekly logo in the corner). Jellal’s hands begin to shake as he places the box on the ground next to them and takes the Erza plushie in his hands. He begins to cry silently as he smooths down the plushie’s scarlet hair.

• “I had a wonderful dream once. A fairy told me to live for the ones I love.” She says with a small smile as she fondly thumbs her own wrist. “Whether she’s out there or not, you have to go on for her. It’s what Ultear and I are doing, together. Talk to her, she’ll explain all of this, and we will continue to live on together. For everyone we have ever loved.” Says the pink haired cutie as she looks at the plushie.

• When Ultear arrives home, she finds Jellal’s door still open. Jellal and Meredy are still in their same spots but they have both fallen asleep. Jellal still holding the Erza plushie, and Meredy with her head against Jellal’s shoulder. Ultear leaves them to rest while she prepares dinner, the smell of delicious food soon waking them up.

• That dinner is the first meal that they all eat together. Ultear explains to him their idea for Crime Sorcière. It is here she confesses her role in his possession. She’s genuinely regretful, and understands if it causes him to deny their request to join, but begs that he’ll continue his own fight against Zeref.

• Jellal handles it better than anyone expected. In the 5 days he spent wallowing he did so much reflecting. He still feels lost, but Meredy’s words hit him hard. He forgives Ultear and accepts to join their independent guild. Later after everyone goes to their rooms for the night, Jellal decorates with the gifts Meredy got for him. He places his figurine on the small bookshelf under the window, the moon light catching on her hair. He hangs the poster, smiling for the first time in a long time as he sees everyone’s faces. The smile is a sad one, but full of love.

• Jellal keeps the Erza plushie in bed with him, on particularly rough nights he hugs it against his chest/neck, smoothing down the soft scarlet hair.
