Shishi Gashira Borg (Super Festival Osaka 4 version) by One Up Pico Pico
Taken by nuo2x2 with Olympus EP-5
might be my most fav sofubi line during my last time living in Japan, the Shishi Gashira Borg sofubis... they re imagined Japanese traditional lion dance costume to mecha style, and this might be the best colorway ever...
Tumblr media
plus the design make it possible for the sofubi to be displayed in normal or standing mode, representing the lion dance movement, pure genius!!!

Inari fox shrine on top of Aqua City in Odaiba. You'll be surprised how many shrines stand on top of shopping malls in Tokyo. Me being me, I'm always looking for Inari fox shrines - and Inari is super popular, being the god of rice, harvest and family, among others. Here, there's also an omikuji stand - which seemed not to be working properly on that day though. The day we visited the shrine I also got a hand reading from one of the fortune tellers in the mall. It happened by chance, and I would really love to get a more detailed reading next time!

👀 Japanese festival where you throw beans & eat giant sushi rolls 📣 DM ‘Setsubun’ to get all the information about this Japanese festival sent to your inbox! 🤭 Have you seen the ritual of throwing beans or the tradition of eating giant sushi rolls? 🤗These are practices for the setsubun event. 🤔Setsubun is generally said to be an event to get rid of evil spirits and pray for a disease-free life. 😉Since ancient times, it has been thought that it is easy for evil to enter at the turn of the season, and since it is still cold at this time, it is easy to get sick. 👹The practice of chasing the demons away is called Oniyarai. This practice was inherited by temples and shrines in different places, and has spread to the general public throughout the years. 🙋‍♀️ Will you celebrate Setsubun this year? Will you eat giant sushi rolls? #setsubun #setsubun👹 #setsubunfestival #japanculture #japaneseculture #japantraditional #japantradition #japanesetraditional #japanesetradition #japantraditions #japanevent #japanevents #japanfestival #japanfestivals #japantravel #hiddenjapan #hiddentokyo #japanfunfact #japan_related (at Tokyo, Japan) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoGmiVQylm2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

People in Japan traditionally eat something called nanakusa gayu (7 herbs rice porridge) on the 7th day of the new year. Eating it is supposed to give you good health for the new year. I’ve been told that these items can be found outside at this time of year, but like most people I just buy a kit at the grocery store. It contains: Seri Nazuna Gogyo Hakobera Hotokenoza Suzuna Suzushiro We always add a little light soy sauce and add mochi since that’s Dude’s family’s tradition. #nanakusagayu #nanakusagayu2023 #japanesetradition #七草粥 (at Kakamigahara, Gifu) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnJFUs7PoHk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hatsumode-visiting a shrine or temple for the first time of a new year. If you have been watching the telly, you will see crowds of people going for prayer on the three days of January 1st to the 3rd. However, it is recommended to visit the shrine before the "Matsu no uchi" 松の内 period is over. Matsu no uchi is the period during which pine tree ornaments made for new year’s are displayed as guides for the god who bring happiness and good harvest every new year to come to each house without getting lost. The Matsu no uchi period differs between Kanto (where Tokyo is) and Kansai (where Kyoto is located), and many places have it from January 1st to the 7th in the Kanto region and January 1st to the 15th in the Kansai region. When Matsu no uchi period is over, god of the incoming year has arrived and the New Year's is over. #2023 #japanesetradition #happynewyear2023 #newyeardecoration https://www.instagram.com/p/CnEkR-uPKmP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The 30th of December marks the end of the working calendar for maiko and geiko. On New Years Eve some geiko and maiko will return to their hometowns to celebrate the New Year. Those who stay participate in 'Okotousan', an event where maigeiko san will walk around the neighbourhood and greet neighbours saying "okotousandosu" meaning it has been busy. They are given large pink and white balls made of dried mochi called 'fukudama' with gifts and lucky charms inside. It is a fun tradition in the kagai 🎍 👤: Junior maiko Satsuki 📸: fujingaho #traditions #traditional #funfacts #funfactfriday #facts #factsdaily #didyouknowthat #didyouknowthis #japan #kyoto #kimono #geisha #maiko #geiko #mochi #japaneseculture #japanesetradition #kioto #asia #azië #reizen #japansecultuur #wistjedat #feiten #traveler #travel #tourguide #japanguide #gids #travelguide (at Kyoto, Japan) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmz_CiWKpyH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
