(as comprehensive as i can make it. corrections/additions welcome)

1919-20 (?) - Hawk is born

based on tennis trophy which shows year 1936, and hawk's statement that he and kenny were on the tennis team in 11th grade (16/17 years old).

also date on the paperweight (1937) that hawk says kenny picked out on their senior trip. spring or fall though? if spring (usual for a senior trip, just before graduation), it would mean hawk graduated HS in 1937, b. 1919. (thanks, @lestatscunt!)

June 6, 1930 - Tim is born, on Staten Island, NY

??? - Hawk joins the army (along with Kenny), and is sent to Europe.

January 9 – August 15, 1945 - Battle of Luzon, where Kenny dies.

September 2, 1945 - Japan surrenders, US exits WWII

February, 1949 - Hawk starts working at the State Department

Hawk says in 1x04 (Dec 1953) that he's been working at the State Dept for "four years and ten months".

"I came out of the war with four assets: degree from Penn, a hero's war record, no particular political ideology, and a passing acquaintance with three languages. Throw in a talent for prevaricating and a taste for travel and fine clothes, you have the makings of a competent, mid-level Foreign Service bureaucrat."

Fall 1948 - Spring 1952 - Tim attends Fordham University, graduating with a degree in political science and history.

1951 - Hawk starts work for the Bureau of Congressional Relations

Tim mentions Hawk's been working there for two years during their meeting on the bench.

1952 - Tim works "the New York campaign" (presumably for Eisenhower).

1952/3? - Tim interns for three months at the Star, in the mailroom.

November 4, 1952 - Election Night, Eisenhower (R) wins the presidency. Tim/Hawk first meet and are instantly smitten. (ep 1)

February 16, 1953 to March 10, 1954 - McCarthy Hearings, part 1.

The first consisted of a series of hearings conducted by McCarthy, as the subcommittee’s chairman, throughout 1953 and early 1954 in which McCarthy alleged Communist influence within the press and the federal government, including the State Department, the U.S. Army, and the Government Printing Office.

March 5, 1953 - Stalin dies.

Late March, 1953 - Hawk/Tim second meeting

After Hawk meets Tim at the park bench, he attends a hearing where Marcus says Cohn has brought David Schine on, and then later at their lunch Senator Smith says, "McCarthy is sending Cohn and his sidekick to Europe..." This article, dated April 19, says that Cohn and Schine have been in Europe for two weeks.

Hawk mentions that it's near the end of the month, police need to make their quotas.

April 27, 1953 - Executive Order 10450 signed. Hawk goes to Tim's apartment and tells him about Kenny. (ep 1)

June 6, 1953 - Tim's 23rd birthday (Hawk 'misses' it because they weren't talking for 4 weeks. belated celebration in ep 3.)

June 15, 1953 (?) - date of the newspaper Tim is reading just before he goes to visit Hawk in ep 2, where Hawk makes him write the letter to Mary. I'm choosing to believe this is a mistake on the show's part, because this would mean that Hawk has already missed Tim's birthday.

June 19, 1953 - Julius and Ethel Rosenberg's execution. Hawk comforts Lucy about this at the end of ep 2. So, likely Hawk and Tim had their big fight very shortly before Tim's birthday, and weren't talking from end of May - end of June.

End of June, 1953 - at the end of ep 2, Tim says it's been 4 months since his last confession, making his last (proper) confession the end of Feb or beginning of March. (ie, before he meets Hawk again).

End of June or beginning of July, 1953 - weekend trip to Rehoboth Beach (ep 3)

November 1953 - G. David Schine drafted into the army (ep 3)

Christmas 1953 (ep 4)

March 16 to June 17, 1954 - Army-McCarthy Hearings (part 2) (ep 5)

The second phase involved the subcommittee's investigation of McCarthy’s attacks on the U.S. Army. Known as the “Army-McCarthy hearings,” they were broadcast on national television and they contributed to McCarthy’s declining national popularity. Five months later, on December 2, 1954, the Senate censured McCarthy.

June 6, 1954 - Tim's 24th birthday

June, 1954? - Tim/Hawk break up, Hawk proposes to Lucy (ep 5)

I believe this happens at the tail-end of the Army-McCarthy hearings, so before June 17th.

Summer or Fall 1956? - Tim's letter (that lucy burns) (ep 6)

Flashbacks, for context:

"Since he's giving up his apartment, Hawk insists on having a lair in the woods." // "I'm surprised that he finally agreed."

Lucy lets contractor go. // "Give me a baby."

Hawk is reading the Bristol Daily Courier, a paper located in Bristol, PA, a town in Bucks County, outside Philadelphia. I can't find any info on the one headline I can read though ("Heath Carlson breaks arws deadlock, locals proud"), so can't date this properly.

Lucy cleaning out Hawk's apartment, finds paperweight, sees Tim drop off letter.

"I went into the Army to get away from you. I thought time and distance would help. But it hasn't." If Tim sends the letter in summer 1956, it's been a year and a half since he enlisted.

Biggest question here: did lucy ask for a baby before or after she read Tim's letter??? the flashbacks don't answer this definitively.

October, 1956? - Lucy becomes pregnant with Jackson (see note under April 1957)

October 23 – November 4, 1956 - Hungarian Revolution of 1956

October 23, 1956 - April 30, 1957 - Hungarian Refugee Crisis

November 8, 1956 - Operation Safe Haven commences

President Eisenhower declared that 5,000 Hungarians would be awarded visa numbers remaining under the 1953 Refugee Relief Act

Spring 1957? - Tim sends telegram. It looks like 05-??-???? to me, which doesn't really make sense if McCarthy died on May 2nd, but it's hard to make out. or maybe telegrams used the date format dd-mm-yyyy.

April 1957? - Tim/Hawk first meeting, Lucy at least 5 (or 6? or 7?) months pregnant

You should feel your baby's first movements, called "quickening," between weeks 16 and 25 of your pregnancy. If this is your first pregnancy, you may not feel your baby move until closer to 25 weeks.

25 weeks ~= 6 months, and it still seems novel to her, so let's say she's approx. 6 months pregnant here.

May 2, 1957 - Joe McCarthy dies.

May 6, 1957 - McCarthy's funeral. Tim's first visit to Hawk's apartment (ep 8)

June 6, 1957 - Tim turns 27.

June or July, 1957 - Jackson born (based on dates above)

1958? - Kimberly is born. (estimated bc she looks the same age or older than Jackson, so assuming she's a year younger at most.)

August, 1965 - President Johnson signs a law making it a federal crime to destroy or mutilate [draft] cards.

October 15, 1965 -David Miller publicly burns his draft card, becoming the first person to be prosecuted under that law and a symbol of the growing movement against the war.

May 17, 1968 - the Catonsville Nine took 378 draft files from the draft board office in Catonsville, Maryland and burned them in the parking lot. (inspo for Tim & co. thanks @brokendrums!)

November 1968 - ep 6. Hawk is 48, Tim is 38, Jackson is 11.

November 1968 - May 1970 (earliest) - Tim in prison. (he says in ep 7 he was in prison for a year and a half. this assumes he went to prison right away, but it could have been several months later if he was awaiting trial/sentencing.)

1970? - After prison, Tim moves to San Francisco and gets his counseling degree.

Mid-late 1970s - Tim earns his C-SWCM qualifications, requiring:

A Bachelor’s degree in social work from a graduate program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education

Documentation of at least three (3) years and 4,500 hours of paid, supervised, post-BSW professional experience in an organization or agency that provides case management services

Current state BSW-level license or an ASWB BSW-level exam passing score.

nb. because Tim already had his bachelors (from Fordham, majoring in history), I could see him entering a much-accelerated BSW program, transfering a lot of credits from his previous degree. That would give him maybe 2 more years of university, plus the required 3 years of post-BSW work = 5 years minimum before he earns that business card.

February 4, 1977 - Fleetwood Mac's album Rumours is released, including the 1970s Tim/Hawk anthem, Go Your Own Way

how long was Hawk in San Francisco? Timelines for the events below may be fudged in the show, bc I doubt he was there for 5 months.

March, 1986 - Roy Cohn's 60 Minutes interview, which the gang watches in ep 4.

April 15, 1986 - US bombs Libya. in the first episode you can hear reference to this on the radio, before Hawk leaves for San Francisco. (thanks @aliceinhorrorland93!)

July 27, 1986 - In California, Gov. George Deukmejian vetoes a bill that would have defined AIDS as a physical handicap calling for entitlement to protection under the state's civil rights laws.

August 2, 1986 - Roy Cohn dies (ep 8)

Late 1986? - the fundraising gala that Tim crashes, shortly after Cohn's death.

September 1986 - The State Legislature has passed another bill [in addition to the one vetoed on July 27]. Mr. Deukmejian, a Republican running for re-election, has indicated that he will probably veto the bill. (nb, this is likely the bill that Tim & co want to pressure the governor to sign).

October 11, 1987 - AIDS memorial quilt first displayed (ep 8)

De's Birth Certificate

Super interesting find in depths of the internet, DeForest Jackson Kelley's Birth Certificate (Certified Copy). Pictures below the text description:

This is super interesting. De always told the story of how he didn't know his first name was Jackson until he was drafted and needed his birth certificate. "I had never heard the name Jackson until I went into the service and, all of the sudden, there it was." (from the Midcon England, 1986). But here we can see it's written how we think of the naming conventions today.

Maybe he thought it was written second, first, last and that's just how it was done; maybe the person who filled out the birth certificate got it wrong or was told wrong by his parents (that happened to my mom lol). But I think maybe this is just how things were done in his family. His brother was named Ernest Casey Kelley, and everyone, even the papers, called him Casey. De and Casey probably wouldn't have had any reason to look at their birth certificates until the draft, so maybe they were comparing them and Casey's was written Casey Ernest? In any case, it doesn't seem to have ever been an issue and the government went with Jackson DeForest Kelley on all his papers after being drafted.

Cameron was born in New Zealand while his mom was out there on an extended gap year, so it was never really set in stone where he’d end up growing up. In the end, however, they returned to his mother's home, eventually ending up in Denver.

He was raised in Washington Park, so pretty much wanted for nothing as he was growing up.

However, he was the kid who didn’t seem to fit in anywhere, so eventually he used his sense of humour to his advantage, playing the class clown.

In the end he didn’t have too many friends, but he had one who was close, who lived two streets away and they pretty much lived out of one another’s pockets. At one point he might as well have moved in with their family as he was at their house so much.

At the age of six, his parents went through a messy divorce, effectively splitting the family in two. He went with his mum, his younger sibling went with his dad.

A year later he suddenly lost the hearing in his left ear. The doctors put it down to emotional stress, but there was no real way of knowing.

Still struggling to fit in, he turned to his imagination, getting lost in worlds of complete make believe. Fantasy was his favourite. Elves, dwarves, vampires. He read The Hobbit more than 20 times in the few years that followed.

He would write stories, put on plays with the few kids he did befriend. And in the end, that was where his life would lead him, to fantasy books that would sell millions and a movie deal to follow.

College was next, along with dead-end jobs in bars to get him through. He only managed a year and a half into his degree, though, finding himself unable to concentrate, so he dropped out again. From then, working in bars and takeout joints pretty much became his life.

He wrote in his spare time, his mailbox constantly full of rejection letters. It was a stream of disappointment for him.

At twenty-three things finally began to look up and he met his soon to be wife while locking up one night. Before long they became the best of friends, then their family became three… and then four. The wedding came last.

It was at twenty-seven that he got somewhere with his writing, Serena finding the letter that held his fate. A three book deal in young adult fiction was soon offered to him and everything changed.

When he hit book three, however, disaster struck. On a night out, Serena and her friends had gotten into an accident. His wife was gone. Just like that. He didn’t get to say goodbye.

The final book fell to the wayside and for a year be barely did anything, not really knowing how to get through. But his children forced him out of it; he finished the book, and he moved into editing, focusing on someone else’s work for a change.

It’s been a bumpy ride, one that’s taken him all over the country during the last couple of years and, at some points, left him chasing after his work. He’s making it work, though, he’s getting through, forcing himself to.

He's made a couple of attempts at relationships since losing his wife, although things never turn out too well, the most recent especially so. No matter what it always feels too soon in his heart, even though he knows it isn't anymore. It's something he needs to get over and fast so he can move on with his life.

Cameron owns a black and tan Jack Russel called Gimli. Because he is both small and mighty.

He’s read The Hobbit around 50 times now and it will always be his favourite book.

Cameron picks up a new tattoo for every success he has in life (or what he considers a success anyway). Currently he’s up to number six. His wedding, his two children, and each of his books. He’s pending on number seven for when the movie’s released and how it does.

Who's Who in Hoodoo History: Aunt Caroline Dye

Caroline Tracy Dye (1843? –1918), better known as Aunt Caroline Dye, was born into slavery in South Carolina. She was gifted with the Far-eye as a child, able to see things outside of the realm of the mundane. As she grew older and other folks became aware of her abilities, she was labeled “fortune-teller”, though some say she never saw herself as such.

Aunt Caroline Dye was a highly respected seer whose name was recognized in Arkansas and the Mid-South in the early years of the twentieth century. She was born into slavery in Spartanburg, South Carolina, about 1843—there is conflicting information through the years about her date of birth and early life. According to Craig (2009): “Caroline Tracy became aware of her abilities as a seer while still a young child. She could reportedly see things outside her line of vision that others could not.”

Aunt Caroline had a large following from all over the south and in particular from Tennessee. According to Craig (2009) she only used a deck of cards to help with her readings, and she refused to give readings about love or the outcome of World War 1. “She did, however, tell many people the location of strayed or stolen livestock, sometimes giving specific directions, and she helped people locate missing jewelry. She gave visions of the future for her clients and offered advice on missing persons” (Craig, 2009). It was after Dye moved to Newport (Jackson County) that her reputation began to grow. She never claimed to be a fortune teller; that title was given to her by others. Her clients were both Black and White, and most showed their appreciation by paying her a few dollars for a reading, although payment was not required. Dye reported that she received twenty to thirty letters a day, with most including money for her services. It was said that some prominent White businessmen of Jackson County would not make important decisions before consulting her. All day long, people crowded into her home in Newport waiting for a reading. She took advantage of the large number of visitors and sold meals from her house. Dye reportedly only used a deck of cards to help her concentration and would not give readings about love or the outcome of World War I; she did, however, tell many people the location of strayed or stolen livestock, sometimes giving specific directions, and she helped people locate missing jewelry. She gave visions of the future for her clients and offered advice on missing persons. Dye died on September 26, 1918, in Newport. After her death, large amounts of cash were reportedly found in her house. She is buried in Gum Grove Cemetery in Newport next to her husband, who had died in 1907.

Over the years, Aunt Caroline Dye's legend has grown to describe her as seer to hoodoo woman, two headed doctor, fortune teller, psychic and conjure doctor.

Biography / Headcanons --

Nate grew up with the best mom anyone could wish for, literally the best mom. She gave them exactly the amount of love and freedom that they could possibly want. They never had any reason to want for more. She allowed them to drive, to go where they wanted to go, and to hang with friends they wanted to hang with. Soon as Nate got a car however, they began a little criminal enterprise. It wasn't out of rebellion, or because they wanted more attention, but because what started as 'helping people' soon became a bit less like that.

At sixteen their favourite person in the whole world - aside from their mom - left for New York City, their best friend and girl next door had gotten a letter from a manager who wanted to help her get into acting. She left in the middle of the night without any goodbye, just a note saying where she was going.

Nate felt awkward and small after her leaving, and they continued to worry for her safety. They grew more fidgetty, slept badly, and became frustrated. Frustration that led to their smuggling business taking several bad turns, getting them noticed by local law-enforcement. The idea to follow their friend to New York City was already brewing, but one night their mom, in her most well-meaning way told them: "wouldn't it be better if you didn't remember?" and it triggered such fear and panic, that Nate packed their bags and left before the night was over, heading through smuggling routes into the States, and towards NYC.

What Nate does not know is that their mother isn't their mother: she's a former Memory Maker who worked for Red Eye, who took a special interest in Nate. Despite the training Nate underwent, they remained soft-natured and fragile, their ADHD making it even harder to push their mind to follow the organisation's directive. She stole them from Red Eye, destroyed the chip behind their ear and stripped them of all the memories of their training, putting others there instead. But as she became their mother, she began worrying far too much, often times erasing their memories when they went through something bad. [ murder mention tw ] She was finally tracked down and killed several years after Nate left.

In NYC, Nate looked for their best friend, but without luck.

On the side they continued their activities, taking up street racing along side it, finding that driving a car was something they were exceptionally good at: squeezing tight corners, reacting to oncoming traffic, etc. Moves that suggested some training, though they had none.

[ car accident mention tw ] They got into an accident while racing, ending up in hospital. Their car get stolen, and without anyone paying for their rent, they end up evicted as well. By the time they get out of the hospital, they are in debt and without anything to their name.

They manage to locate the people who stole his car - and drove it into a building - but instead of turning them in, he gets offered a job: work for the White Crocodiles. And through them, make his way back to a comfortable living. Once fully recovered from their injuries, they delve back into street racing.

They're a little bit all over the place, forgetting things, needing alarms to get them places, and generally being unreliable. But they're also practical and adorable, they're that person you can't say anything bad about even though you have enough stories.

List of errors in Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton

Here’s my review of Tilar Mazzeo’s work, problems with Flexner, crazy statements in AH biographies, and part 2, in case anyone thinks I’m only critical of Chernow’s AH biography.

Chernow isn’t ONLY wrong about the things I’m listing below - his narrative of AH’s childhood is, by recent historical scholarship, proven wrong; and the longstanding rivalry with Aaron Burr is junk. As is Chernow’s determination to build the tragic hero’s arc, which leaves him no space for critical evaluation/interpretation of AH’s (or Federalist) policies. And even though Gordon S. Wood has written volumes, Chernow still doesn’t grasp the Founders’ political philosophies.

There has been a whole book published on Chernow’s (and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s) errors - Historians on Hamilton. I’m just compiling some of the easier tidbits to digest.

Chernow is wrong, sticking to facts/word choice - I’ll add to this list as a remember more things or go look things up:

1. AH was not an abolitionist. He may have held pro-manumission sentiments. But he was certainly not the most fervent abolitionist or even manumissionist of the Founding Fathers.

2. Elizabeth Hamilton was not so upset about the Reynolds Pamphlet (published August 25, 1797) that she left New York and gave birth to William S. Hamilton (born August 4, 1797) in Albany. Just the idea of a heavily pregnant woman taking the trip by boat (took anywhere from 24 to 30+ hours) should have made this conjecture seem unlikely. But it’s in the genealogical records that William S. was born in NYC. There’s also a letter from William Jackson to AH dated 5Aug 1797 in which he states: “Accept my congratulations on the birth of your Son,” noting he had received a letter from AH that morning, obviously announcing the birth of William S. I’m not even sure any prior narrative claimed EH gave birth to WSH in Albany.

3. He mis-dates the “Icarus” letter because he depended on only part of the copied text and never read the entire letter, that specifically has Angelica asking her sister if William (obviously already born) enjoyed the trip. There’s really no question for me that this letter was written 3Jun1798, which was a Sunday (the reference to going to church), and places it matching AH’s letter to EH of the same date.

4. The garter/shoe bow story, which was a failure to find the original source.

5. He gets the baptisms of the 4 oldest Hamilton kids wrong.

6. He gets Eliza Hamilton’s birthdate wrong.

7. He gets the Talleyrand letter wrong because he never checked the original source.

8. I have no idea where Philip as “sad rake” comes from, and obviously neither does Chernow.

9. Factual errors and using letters out of context related to AH’s resignation from Washington’s cabinet.

10. He gets the importance of the various aides-de-camp wrong, including lots of errors in who was where when.

11. Speculation about Rachel Faucett presented as fact, like this.

12. The orphan boy story.

13. Washington as AH’s “immaculate Daddy,” when the actual source makes clear it’s Philip Schuyler.

14. Identifying Phocion of 1796 as Hamilton, instead of William Loughton Smith.

Word choice that is very suspect:

1. EH “abandoned” AH when she went to Albany to visit her parents, and AH was so tightly wound. As @runawayforthesummer tracked down, EH and AH had just gone on a vacation together, see here.

2. That AH directed his wife to be charitable, ignoring that charity was probably first inspired by her mother, widely known for her charitable endeavors.

3. He doesn’t know what a double-adulterer is.

4. This is how he handled Latrobe (and I still don’t know the source of the quote he used).

5. Connected to (4), no sourcing for the claims, prior to the Reynolds Pamphlet, that AH had a reputation as an adulterer.

Despite not knowing her biological family or the fact that she was a werewolf, life was perfectly normal for Hayley until she hit the age of thirteen. It was the accident of killing someone while drunk on a boat that triggered her curse and at the age of thirteen that was when she found herself making her way through the world on her own. BIOGRAPHY.

Bernadette Beauchamp had never been good with handling loneliness. She hadn't asked for much in life. Just enough to have her life contently. A husband. A child. A white picket fence. Though fate had different plans for the young woman, who'd had her first son at the age of twenty, with a man who would not live long enough to see his son grow up. Living in Chicago, she raised her oldest son by herself, tried to offer her boy everything she could, though her loneliness still reigned her heart and made her search for love in all the wrong places. Stumbling from one relationship to the next, she settled for things she did not deserve. Mistreatment and toxic behavior were her life for the following years to come. This all seemed to change however, once she'd met Isaac Bradford. He seemed different than all the others. He was loving and attentive, caring and willing to provide for her and her son. Four years after meeting, they welcomed their first and only child together - Samuel.

Sam was a bright child, inquisitive and sweet and his world consisted of daydreams and adventures. He was especially close to his father, who taught him to appreciate music and art. So, the family of four lived in Chicago and Bernadette's dream seemed to come true, until Isaac, ten years after Sam was born, ended their relationship without much of a warning or an explanation. Moving not just into a different city but a different state entirely, Sam got to see his father every once in a while. Though as the years passed the letters and visits became less and less, until Isaac's efforts had come to an end completely.

Now only a family of three, Sam's brother stepped in, supported their mother and aided her in raising the young boy, who, ever since his dad had left, had gotten more fussy, more disobedient. His brother was the only one who could manage to talk sense into Sam, when he started lashing out, though as Sam had reached his teenage years, not even his brother could get through to him, most times. In the meanwhile, his mother had not learned from her mistakes, stumbling from relationship to relationship. Sam had forsaken any true endeavors to build any relationship with the men his mother had dated. Barely bothering to remember their names, as he knew they would not stay around for long. And still, it didn't keep him, as well as his brother, from needing to step in, when first signs of abuse in the relationships arose. And still, Sam was always the shoulder for his mother to cry on.

Sam had paid quite a few visits to the juvenile detention center during his adolescence, always for minor charges. This, as well as being expelled from two different schools for repeated misdemeanor, Sam only finished High School at age 20. Working various different jobs afterward, he moved out. Living in a small apartment, Sam spent his spare time partying. Drugs and alcohol flowed freely and although he was never truly addicted, these substances aided him in coping with everything. The hatred aimed toward his father. The hatred aimed toward the men his mother brought home. The helplessness, when seeing his mother so lost and torn.

It was a usual night, a usual party Sam, now in his mid-twenties, went to with a couple of his friend. The booze was flowing and substances were running high in their systems, though his best friend seemed to have overdone it. As Sam tried to aid him on his way home, his best friend collapsed. Trying his best to keep his best friend awake and alive, he called for an ambulance, though the medics could only determine his best friend's death. Sam refused to be taken to the hospital, chose to wander Chicago's streets instead, until the sun had already risen. It was mere hours after the incident, mere hours in which he hadn't managed to even begin processing what had happened, when he received a phone call by his mother. A rustle on her end of the line was subsequently followed by a loud thud and a scream. Instead of calling for police, Sam took care of the situation himself. His mother's black eye was nothing compared to the injuries he'd caused her current boyfriend. Injuries severe enough for him to be sentenced for four years in jail for aggravated assault. Four years, of which he'd served all.

Upon his release, Sam realized that the tides had shifted and life would never be the same again. His mother had grown distant, shocked to have witnessed what her youngest boy was capable of. Friends had turned their backs to him, for their lifestyles were no longer compatible with his. No longer compatible with the one of an ex convict. The only one who had Sam's back (as always) was his older brother, who suggested Sam leave Chicago. Move to a different place. A quieter place, so he might stay out of trouble. A new beginning.

Living in a Downtown apartment for three years, Sam began working as a mechanic at Extra Mile Mechanics, though has reduced his hours to a part-time position since being promoted to a club promoter and DJ at High Pulse. He still drowns his sorrow in substances and parties. In making music and working out. Trying to stay out of trouble proves to be difficult for Sam, as his abrasive and impulsive demeanor oftentimes get the better of him. Act and speak first, think second. To family and friends, Sam is fiercely loyal and would stop at nothing to ensure their happiness and safety, making others a priority. There are only few things Sam genuinely cares about, which reflects in his behavior. Love him or hate him - there are only few who fall in between.

the only child of adem and zehra yilmaz, rosemary and sage were named after zehra’s love for herbalism. their family, a long line of hunters, moved to washington state before the twins were born, following a lead on a record number of supernatural cases in the 1980s. eventually, their assignments took them to alaska, and adem found he enjoyed the small community of hunters enough that he wanted to stay. zehra, learning she was pregnant, decided settling down was for the best. how many supernatural dangers could there be in alaska, anyway?

hunters are typically hereditary, in the sense that the skills and traditions are passed down from parent to child over the years. this life was expected of rosemary and sage, but while other children of hunters learned of supernatural creatures at a young age, zehra decided it was best to let them be children as long as possible, debating with adem whether to wait until they were at least ten or twelve to tell them or whether they were more at risk not knowing.

when the girls were about eight, adem made a wrong move. he’d taken down a trio of werewolves. or, at least, so he’d thought. one had survived and remembered his scent, wasting no time in tracking him down. the family was staying at a lodge in chugiak with family friends right outside anchorage for the twins’ birthday, still absolutely not grown out of begging to go to the marsh wildlife boardwalk. the werewolf, near feral in their wolf form and even worse consumed with rage, had no mercy for anyone in adem’s family. shattering the wooden cabin door into pieces, only zehra managed to escape with a terrified rosemary in her arms. they ran until the earth ran out, and when the werewolf slashed at rosemary, it managed no more than a scratch before zehra shoved rosemary off the cliff. people went cliff diving here regularly, and perhaps it wasn’t safe, but an icy lake was better than being left for a werewolf.

when their family friends, taras and sasha koval, returned from dinner, they were too late to catch the werewolf and found only zehra in her final moments. sasha’s hand clasped in hers, zehra begged her to look for her daughters, to keep them safe, and to keep them far, far away from the world they all knew.

sage’s body was never found, and all a young rosemary could remember when she awoke in the hospital was the frigid temperature of the lake, a soul-freezing emptiness that left her feeling as though she’d never know warmth again. they told her it had been a car accident, that they’d driven off a cliff and only she had survived, that her vague memory of a splintered cabin was just her brain’s way of trying to process what she couldn’t remember. as more time passed, she believed she really must have imagined it.

the kovals adopted her and kept to zehra’s last wishes. despite her being younger by several years than their son and daughter, they raised her as their own, and kept her completely oblivious of supernaturals, whether they agreed with it or not. for her thirteenth birthday, after a read of anne of green gables, rosemary asked to legally take the koval last name, too.

she will introduce herself has rosemary, but her closest friends might call her rose. she’s fine with any nicknames except despises mary.

after losing her biological family, rosemary has been desperate to never be left alone again and puts down roots in as many friendships and community organizations as she can manage, often spreading herself too thin.

losing her brother-in-law was another terrible blow, but emotionally losing her sister morgan was the most devastating loss yet, since it felt like her own fault for not being able to reach her.

is very big on platonic love and will hold hands and hug and snuggle with everyone without hesitation. probably seems flirtatious at times but does not flirt with anyone on purpose and is entirely oblivious to anyone flirting with her.

tries to force everyone to have as much town spirit as she does and sees it as her personal duty to befriend every valdez newcomer so they don’t feel alone.

Okay so. AU: Ronnie has a twin

send me an au and i’ll give you 5+ headcanons about it

In the tail end of her child bearing days, Alaine unexpectedly gave birth to a pair of twins. The youngest being the first Hunter daughter, Ronnie, and the older twin being another son named Jackson, or Jax for short. Since they’re twins and they grew up together, she is extremely close with him and they share a special bond. What she can’t always confide in Adrian, she’ll confide in him.

Much like their older brother Adrian, Jax takes on a sort of protector role with Ronnie. Unlike his brother though, he has a rather poor temper and impulse control. Especially when it comes to Deacon’s bullying. Whereas Adrian handles it with words and an alpha voice, Jax has gotten violent with his brother for his comments toward her.

Jax is a triggered wolf and he triggered protecting Ronnie. Though their territory is mostly off the map and hidden away, they’re not always safe from outside threats. His trigger is something Ronnie feels guilty about. He doesn’t dwell on it too much, however, because she was safe at the end of it.

When Adrian is dismissed from the pack along with their mother, Ronnie isn’t around long enough to receive the rescue letter from Adrian and Seph. Jax knows it’s only a matter of time without Adrian around to stand in between Ronnie and their father, so he plans an escape to Virginia and Ronnie trusts him enough to follow along. They’re eventually found by Adrian and Seph, who take them back to Mystic Falls with them.

When Ronnie meets Eric and starts spending a lot of time with him, Jax is initially suspicious of him and isn’t very warming toward him. Like their brother, he thinks he has ill intentions and makes more than a few threats toward him, which causes some arguments among the twins. Brother or not, she won’t tolerate it. However despite his personal feelings, he doesn’t tell Adrian or anyone that the two of them are dating. He keeps her secret.

Bonus:

Jax eventually comes to like Eric when it becomes obvious that he genuinely loves her. He realizes this when his father comes to town and the two of them team up to make sure she’s safe.

EXTRA Bonus: Imagine these two versus Deacon later on lol. Jax HATES him.

Day 23: Presumed Dead

Angst, presumed dead, alcohol use, implied memory loss, referenced murder

[Follows Waiting]

The wind was relentless, buffeting against East’s jacket and whipping at his hair. The sky was grey - a cottony blanket of clouds above promising rain, but withholding their tears while he navigated the graveyard.

It was small - less than a hundred headstones, easily dwarfed by the Jewish cemetery across the street. Many of stones here were sunk into the peaty soil, names and dates obscured with moss and lichen. It was owned by the town, unmaintained and largely abandoned.

It wasn’t like there was anyone left to bury here.

East knew the name he was looking for, the letters seared behind his eyes when Jackson showed him the file. He had asked to see it. To know.

And here he found a headstone, unkempt and weathered by years without care, engraved with a name that was once his own. There were other stones alongside it bearing similar names - family he didn’t recognize or remember, buried next to his own empty coffin. East crouched in front of his gravestone, flat and embedded in the soil with just his name, date of birth, and date of death. Simple - it wasn’t like anyone could afford anything better. It wasn’t like he had been deserving of anything better.

He used a gloved hand to scrub away some dirty and moss, tracing his fingers over the letters. Well, at least he knew why he had once called himself ‘Wolf.’ And now he knew his birthday - June 1st, so different from the January winters he had been celebrating with Jackson.

The death date had him buried when he would have been 22.

He was almost 45 now.

He wondered if he knew about this grave - even orchestrated its placement - Before he had buried those memories too deep to unearth. There wasn’t any family left to find, no one left to ask. No one he would recognize. No one who would recognize him, not after all this time and the havoc it had wrought upon his body.

East stopped at the local pub on his way out of town, the language he grew up surrounded by warmed his heart as much as the whiskey did. He had been worried about being here alone; that without Jackson, it would be too daunting. But here he was, alone but surrounded by a place that felt far too much like home for how little he remembered it.

“You said you were passing through, that right?” The bartender was young and polite, the curiosity in his voice strictly professional. (East still loved how that word felt in his mind.) He sipped his whiskey and nodded. “You went out to the pastures - by the cemetery. What for?”

“Personal.” East hummed, quirking a brow at the bartender. This country village was quiet, but word got around quick. He didn’t have much hope of being completely inconspicuous as a stranger in a small town.

“Figured. Was just wondering - there was this older gentleman who came through pretty regularly and went out there. Normally this time of year, actually.” East felt ice settle in his gut, a frown tugging at his lips. “Was just wondering if you might’ve known him - never gave a name but…I don’t know you just remind me of him.”

“Can’t say that it rings a bell.” East voice felt rough, the whiskey doing little to smooth his words. The bartender shrugged.

“Hope he’s alright - came through once a year like clockwork. At least until last year.” The bartender sighed as a patron at the opposite end of the bar hollered for a refill. “Enjoy your drink.”

East stared at his glass, the ice cubes cracked in their liquid amber. There was only one person who would have come out here - who knew him from Before, who knew this sleepy village even existed -

Ghost had been coming here, every year, on East’s birthday, to visit that rundown graveyard and its empty casket. And East had put a bullet in his head because he was too afraid of a half remembered friend.

The bartender returned to a half full glass of whiskey, and cash payment left crumpled beside it.

He was raised in the Notting Hill, so pretty much wanted for nothing as he was growing up.

However, he was the kid who didn’t seem to fit in anywhere, so eventually he used his sense of humour to his advantage, playing the class clown.

In the end he didn’t have too many friends, but he had one who was close, who lived over in Wandsworth and they pretty much lived out of one another's pockets. At one point he might as well have moved in with their family as he was at their house so much.

At the age of six, his parents went through a messy divorce, effectively splitting the family in two. He went with his mum, his younger sibling went with his dad.

A year later he suddenly lost the hearing in his left ear. The doctors put it down to emotional stress, but there was no real way of knowing.

He would write stories, put on plays with the few kids he did befriend. And in the end, that was where his life would lead him, to fantasy books that would sell millions and a movie deal to follow.

University was next, along with dead-end jobs in bars to get him through. He only managed a year and a half into his degree, though, finding himself unable to concentrate, so he dropped out again. From then, working in bars and takeout joints pretty much became his life.

He wrote in his spare time, mailbox constantly full of rejection letters. It was a stream of disappointment for him.

At 23 that things finally began to look up and he met his soon to be wife while locking up one night. Before long they became the best of friends, then their family became three... and then four. The wedding came last.

It was at 27 that he got somewhere with his writing, Serena finding the letter that held his fate. A three book deal in young adult fiction was soon offered to him and everything changed.

When he hit book three, however, disaster struck. On a night out, Serena and her friends had gotten into an accident. His wife was gone. Just like that. He didn’t get to say goodbye.

The final book fell to the wayside and for a year be barely did anything, not really knowing how to get through. But his children forced him out of it; he finished the book, he moved into editing, focusing on someone else’s work for a change.

It’s been a bumpy ride, one that’s taken him all over the country during the last year or so and, at some points, left him chasing after his work. He’s making it work, though, he’s getting through, forcing himself to.
