The one where the girls start speculating
A/N: Soooo this is all the set up I had in mind for this AU. Now I’d love to hear thoughts. What ships should appear more, what should happen and all. Asks are open for anything about this! Hope you people are still with me, despite roughly 10k of nonsense. I accidentally posted this too early and put it on private for a day, sorry y‘all haha
The Lake House was definitely a stretch of a name. It was more so just a small hut with wooden walls. It also wasn’t down by the lake but rather up on a hill with a nice view onto the lake. Still, they had a veranda, their own, more private bathrooms, even a TV, the beautiful scenery of the lake on one side and the schoolhouse on the other. God, Denali wished she could afford a place in here. She definitely understood now why Olivia spent most of her time here. If Denali were friends with someone in the Lake House, she’d probably do the same. Yes, Olivia brought her along to hang out and yes, most of the Lake House inhabitants were in the Philosophy Club with her, but outside of that she barely ever saw them. Entering the small hallway leading to the two flats in there, it was hard not to feel like an imposter.
„It’s so nice and quiet in here“, Olivia sighed as she stepped into the second flat of the place, letting herself fall onto Symone’s bed as if it was her own. The place was light and comfy, the walls painted the pale blue of a November sky, furniture held in shades of white and light brown and a fluffy carpet on the wooden ground. There were three beds, multiple drawers and a desk large enough to fit multiple people. Overall, the entire place was way larger and more welcoming than the gloomy, crowded matchbox Denali shared with Olivia.
„Trust me, these girls can make some noise too.“ Bosco, who sat on their bed on the other side of the room, looked up from the notebook in their lap and chuckled. They wore a baggy black T-Shirt way too large for them, and Denali was almost certain she’d seen it lay around in their common room at least once.
Olivia had already buried her head in the throw pillows on Symone’s bed, the latter laughing at her antics. „I don’t care“, the girls muffled voice barely made it through all the pillows, „Nothing will ever be as nerve-wrecking as Daya and Jasmine. I don’t know what silence is anymore.“
Bosco laughed. „Trust me Liv, I know.“ They turned to Denali, who still stood kind of awkwardly in the doorway. „Girl, sit wherever!“ They gestured around the room in a dismissive wave, „A friend of Liv‘s is our friend or whatever. The least you deserve is a moment of peace and quiet from the chaos in the dorms.“
„Maybe say that to Daya instead of Denali“, Crystal’s freshly dyed cherry red hair popped up in the doorframe, „Hey Nali!“
She fidgeted with something in her hand as she strode inside, naturally, as if she did so all the time. Denali knew Crystal lived in the Lake House, but judging by the photos on the wall and the overall tidiness of the room she doubted this one was hers. However, over the third and last bed there was a collage of Polaroids, more than half of them featuring Crystal, often depicted with her arm around a slim, tall girl with naturally auburn hair. This must be Gigi, Symone’s older sister.
Once Crystal sat down on the carpet, back leaned against Bosco’s bed, Denali recognized the thing in her hands as a freshly rolled joint. She still pressed it closed with her thumbs, looking up to follow the conversation.
Bosco shrugged. „Why do I have to tell Daya people are annoyed with her and Jasmine? She’s your best friend!“
Before Crystal had the chance to react, Symone let out a groan. „Girl!“, she sounded exasperated, throwing her hands up to underline her statement, „Everyone knows you fucked both of them at least once! Maybe use that privilege to finally resolve their ongoing feud and do us all a favor!“
Denali felt her brows rise at this new information. There seemed to be a lot of connections she still didn’t know about. She couldn’t help but wonder what the girls knew about Rosé. Or at least thought they knew.
Bosco shook their head, unfazed. „It’s not like I’ve never tried! Sometimes they get along quite well actually.“ They began to smirk as their thoughts trailed off. „Boo! That’s basically my sister you’re talking about!“ Crystal grabbed a pillow, throwing it in their direction, missing their form by several feet. The message was still received as Bosco let out a high pitched, almost hysterical laugh, shooting Crystal a wink.
„So what?“, Symone asked, fishing a lighter out of her nightstand to hand it to Crystal, „I let you talk about Gigi all day.“ Crystal rolled her eyes, but the red on her cheeks was impossible to miss. Her eyes trailed downwards to the joint in her hand, she was suddenly very busy fumbling with the ends of it. After a moment of both Olivia and Symone chuckling, Crystal glanced over at Denali, tapping the floor next to herself. Denali, who until now had stood rather awkwardly in the doorway, followed the invitation, sitting down beside her as Crystal lit up the joint. The art student took one long breath, smiling in satisfaction at her own work before slowly breathing it out, filling the room with the smell of smoke and weed. Bosco turned around to open the window behind them. After another puff, Crystal handed the joint over to Denali, who gladly accepted it.
„Guuuuys“, Olivia whined, „Forget about Gigi for a second! None of that is news anyways!“, an almost mischievous grin suddenly spread over her face, „Let’s hear about Denali’s lovergirl instead!“
Denali choked on her own breath, erupting into heavy coughing. Crystal slapped her back a few times, giving her a sympathetic smile. The worst part was that Denali was pretty sure everyone was aware that it had nothing to do with the joint. Once she calmed down enough to breathe again, she took another, actual puff and stared at Olivia. „What do you mean?“
„Yeah Olivia what do you mean?“, Bosco sounded intrigued. They made grabby hands at the joint, which Denali gladly handed over, needing both of her hands to fumble with the hem of her shirt. Very casually, of course.
Olivia grinned, leaning forward as if she were about to share a secret. „I’m not saying anything, but yesterday Denali got driven home by Rosé because of the rain.“ She smirked at everyone in the room once, before her eyes landed on Denali, „She even let her have that horrible pink jacket of hers. So she wouldn’t get wet.“
The room erupted into a choir of Oohs and Awws and Denali wanted to disappear from the surface of the earth. So Maybe she had kept Rosé‘s jacket since then, what about it? She just hadn’t seen her again to give it back. Well, except for class this morning … But why would she bring the Jacket to class, it would only be impractical for both her and Rosé, right? Although, the fact she didn’t give it back yet would also explain why the pink haired girl‘s eyes had kept wandering over to Denali all period long …
„She’s blushing!“, Symone clapped her hands together in glee, „Look at her face guys, she’s so blushing!“ The girls erupted into giggles, the joint being passed around further. Denali hid her face in her hands, shaking her head adamantly. „It’s literally nothing! I’m more annoyed with her than anything! Can’t stand this I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude.“ If she was really honest, she wasn’t sure who she was trying to convince more, the others or herself. But in her floaty, weed infused state she was definitely not going to open up that box. Especially not in front of all the others.
„Whatever you say, girl. Wouldn’t be the first time y’all’s little debate Club gets it going with each other.“ Surprised, Denali glanced over at Olivia. This was certainly news to her. Who had hooked up in the club? Definitely a mystery worth investigating. Later, when she was sober, when her mind was less clouded. For now, she simply shrugged it off, putting a pin in it for later.
Symone leaned back on her elbows, kicking her feet up to rest on Olivia’s lap. She was still rambling on about Rosé, and Denali would have preferred her to shut up. „Just make sure Lagoona ain’t home, she’s like a guard dog about her precious sisters. The house is nice though.“
„Tell that to Jackie“, Crystal suddenly chimed in, head leaned against the bedframe behind her, eyes half closed. „If what Willow says is true, Janice is basically ready to get on one knee already.“ Oh, really? Denali hadn’t noticed that at all on Thursday. She had simply assumed Jan was an overly motivated, extroverted freshman. She saw Olivia’s eyes widen at the news as well, which only raised her suspicion. Before she got to voice her thoughts however, the door flew open another time.
„Who gets on their knees for who?“ The three last inhabitants of the Lake House, Gigi, Jackie and Nicky came bursting inside. Gigi, the one who’d asked the question dropped her tiny purse to the ground next to her bed, immediately letting herself fall down onto the mattress as well. „Hi guys,“, she said, „Hey Crys!“ The two redheads shared a short smile before Nicky spoke up, already reaching for the last stump of the joint. „Bonjour Saloppes“, she chuckled, taking the final drag she could force out of the little nub between her lips, „No one warned us that it was gonna be a whole party today.“
„False“, Symone retorted, „I told you Liv was coming. Not my fault that you never listen.“ Nicky rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at Symone, who blew a kiss back in her direction. Jackie simply snorted at the interaction.
„Where the hell have you guys been anyways, it’s been like, hours“, Bosco fumbled with one of their pillows, eyes slowly but surely turning slightly red, their gaze hazy. Denali definitely felt quite the same.
Nicky rolled her eyes. „We were in the library because Jackie is a nerd.“ Jackie shook her head, clasping her pearl in mock offense. Nicky shot her her sweetest, toothy smile. Denali didn’t miss the way her hand rested loosely on Jackie‘s waist. „Actually, we were in the library because I picked up some books for Jan. She’s really eager about the Club. Maybe she’ll join me this year for the Debate tourney.“
„Ouch“, Nicky retorted, her lower lip pushing forward into a playful pout, „was I not good enough of a partner last year?“ Jackie rolled her eyes with affection, stroking a short strand of bleached blonde hair behind Nicky’s ear. „You were just fine, baby. I just mean having a partner who actually cares about the subject and doesn’t just do it for me would be nice.“
„Aw man, couldn’t you have said that earlier? The time I could have saved…“
Jackie chuckled, gently shoving Nicky away from her. „You’re an idiot.“
„Anyways“, Gigi interrupted them, clearing her throat, „how’s it going with the rest of you guys? Anyone want a beer? I think we have some corona left.“
The conversation drifted off, but the familiarity between Nicky and Jackie stayed in the back of Denali’s mind. So someone in the Club had at least hooked up as well … wait, as well? No, no, no, nothing had happened with her and Rosé and nothing would happen! She was totally not in the mood to face the repercussions of that. And anyways, Rosé was still annoying, even yesterday she had grinned like an idiot at Denali’s misery! And Olivia had made it clear earlier: the only people Rosé cared about were her sisters and her best friend.
She was not going to let herself go down that road.

Idk if you’re still taking prompts but... “truth or dare” Gistal with a bit (or more lol) of Jackie x Nicky and Jaida x Jan ?? :)
yes its after 1am im not waiting til morning enjoy xo–Twelve queens, one tour, a few drinks, and a little too much downtime was a cocktail for, if nothing else, an interesting time. Adding truth or dare into the mix? Well, there was no way to predict how that would end up.
The game was Jan’s idea - something that didn’t seem to surprise anyone. The twelve queens sat in a circle and placed an empty vodka bottle in the center. “Who wants to go first?” He asked with a grin, scanning the group for a volunteer.
“Start us off sis, this was your idea,” Heidi prompted with a laugh.
Jan cocked his head and used his pointer finger and thumb to stroke his chin. “Crystal, darling, truth or dare?”
“Hmm…” Crystal took a brief moment to decide. “Truth, let’s start off slow.”
He strummed his fingers against his knee as he thought. “Have you ever hooked up with another queen?”
“Yes.”
“Wait, wait, I have a follow up!” Brita leaned in, waving his hand into the center of the circle. “Was it a queen in this circle?” He asked, followed by a chorus of ‘ooooh’.
Crystal sat up stiffly and cleared his throat, hesitating before answering with a calm “Yes.”
“Was it–”
“Yes! It was me. Jesus, leave her alone,” Gigi let out an exasperated huff while he subtly reached out next to him to hold Crystal’s hand, his thumb gently stroking across the back of it. He looked up, smiling in response to his appreciative gaze.
He mouthed ‘thank you’ to him before facing the group again. “Now, let’s see,” he moved his finger around the circle until he stopped on Jaida. “You,” he grinned. “Truth or dare?”
Jaida was quicker with his decision. “Dare me, bitch,” he chuckled.
Crystal ran his free hand through his hair as he thought (his other hand was resting on Gigi’s knee), until a mischievous grin settled on his lips. “You dubbed yourself as trade of the season, so, I dare you to pick who you find the most attractive and… give them a kiss.”
“Fine by me,” there was a noticeable lack of hesitation as he got up. It was blatantly apparent that he didn’t need to give the decision any thought.
That said, Jan was taken by surprise when he suddenly had Jaida in front of him, his hands cupping his face and pulling him into a kiss. It wasn’t just a simple peck, either. It was firm and deep and he couldn’t help but melt right into it, holding onto Jaida’s shoulders and letting his lips part when his tongue slipped past.
After a good ten or fifteen seconds, Jaida broke the kiss and moved back to his spot with a smug grin on his lips that only broadened when he noticed how everyone was staring at him. “What? We all been knew she’s cute.”
“Yeah, but we didn’t expect your whole tongue to go down his throat,” Gigi retorted.
“You’re one to talk, evidently.”
Jan, meanwhile, needed a second to process what had just happened. It had been a little while since he’d been kissed like that, it felt like Jaida took the air from his lungs with him when he returned to his seat. His eyes were wide and blinking rapidly as his face recovered from the rush of redness that had taken over. “It’s, um, your turn to pick.”
Jaida still had his cocky smirk going. It was pretty fun to see him all flustered - he found himself hoping he’d see more of that soon. “Mhm, alright,” he finally stopped looking at Jan long enough to continue the game. “Miss Nicky Doll,” he announced dramatically, “truth or dare?” Then offhandedly added “How d’you say that in French anyway?”
Nicky poked his head out from the hoodie he’d been all but completely hidden in. “Action ou vérité. I pick action, er, truth,” he responded, pushing the hood down so his head was fully uncovered and shaking his hair out to alleviate the messiness the hood caused.
“Let’s say your husband gave you a hall pass to hookup with someone,” he started. “But, it has to be someone in this group. Who do you pick?”
Before Nicky answered, he rolled his eyes. “This ‘hall pass’ concept must be an American thing. My husband and I are rarely together these days, so we do not hold ourselves to monogamy. That said, I would pick Jackie,” he explained simply.
Jackie, who had been fading in and out of paying attention, perked right up at the answer. “Oh really?” He shifted to better face the other queen. “In that case, why don’t you come find me if you ever wanna put that non-monogamy theory into practice?”
“Well, how could I ever resist such an invitation?” Nicky chuckled softly and winked at him.
“Jesus, y’all are so fucking horny,” Widow abruptly chimed in, causing a ripple of laughter through the group. “Why don’t all y’all pair off for a nightcap and we end this game before someone starts dry humping. And I’m looking at you two,” he said, directing his attention to Gigi and Crystal at the last part.
And it did seem like the queens in question intended on following the suggestion as they paired off and left - Gigi with Crystal, Jaida with Jan, and Jackie with Nicky. It seemed cliche, the way the game served as a catalyst for these relationships could have come right out of a teen comedy. But it got the job done.
