I am lazy to scroll all the way down my blog but basically a few months ago I made a post that said smth like "I love how angry Tommy boy looks during Seize the day and at the rally bc it's like calm down bro you were scabbing 5 seconds ago"

And anyway I want to come back on this because with the uk version I have such a different take on this ??? Because hear me out, Tommy boy's character arc here is actually very strong. In this version he is the last scab to give in, with the "My father's gonna kill me anyway" line (which. Rip sniper but my boy here nailed this)

And it's so clear he did this because of Jack, not only because his speech moved him but also because he respects Jack as a (big) brother and as a leader. Which is why it hurts so much when Jack talks directly to him during the rally when he says "how long can you go without making money ?" ; and it's also why it hurts so much when he starts screaming "We hate you ! We HATE you !!" at the top of his lungs. Because he trusted Jack with this, he got in the strike because of Jack, and now Jack is just giving up on him.

So yes he was scabbing, and yes he really involved in the strike after that, but here it's just so heartbreaking. Because his whole attitude shows that it's not only about the strike, it's about Jack. And that really says so much about him as a character, but also about Jack as a leader and brother figure to the younger newsies and it just gives so much more depth to the characters and their relationships to each other.

Anyway Jack bromage I owe you my soul for this portrayal of Tommy boy

Gotta love an overexcited Elmer throwing himself into Tommy Boys arms at the prospect of making the front page… first time I saw this moment I was sat directly in front of the pair front Brooklyn and they held this position for SO long - way longer than they ever did again - the moment had well and truly passed before they eventually parted ways looking a little sheepish and avoiding each other… it’s a moment that puts a smile on my face every time I think about it and will stay with me forever… I love it so much!
