what are some cool games u have played? dont matter if u mentioned before. tell me again tell me again :D
uhh hmm.
well okami is my all time favorite the art & the music & the message/story are all just incredible theres not a single time ive finished it i havent cried. i absolutely adore ryoshima coast ive spent so many hours just running around there to listen to music. which fun fact for u i only know about this game bc in about 6th grade i picked up okamiden bc i thought the little doggy was cute & was like fine i'll play as this boy if i get a cool dog and u cannot imagine how excited i was to find out u DID play as the little dog. i was SOOOOO obsessed literally my exact thoughts were 'if issun is ammy's celestial envoy then i am going to be chibis' i have a metric fuck ton of fan art i did at the time bc i thought it was quote "the epic-est game for ds ever" also cried every time i finished it. i was 13 so i didnt know what "being down bad" was but do know i was as obsessed with kurow as i was with d-ne later and now tenshi not a single irl friend was unaware i was in love with him. also fun fact for u bc at the same time i was also getting super into vocaloid i was so convinced my vocap name would end up as chibiP to the point i named myself that in pkmn x chibiP after chibiterasu of course. please enjoy my banger old art which is not even a fraction of my output

yume nikki is my next favorite game specifically the og that changed my brain chemistry as a kid. i adore that game so much its hard to put it into words. its just so unlike anything else. there is absolutely nothing in the game that can directly harm u theres no real health meter theres no way to die during the main play the absolute worst that will ever happen is u get stuck or woken up. in a horror game. which is already just amazing. and the whole horror aspect just plays on something i dont think is often done as well in many other things. ur alone. u wander and wander thru worlds that loop and connect and seemingly have nothing to do with each other. theres no dialogue; talking to npcs just gets u a noise or animation at best. ur entirely alone with just urself. its all dreams so u know everything is of madotsuki's own creation, another layer to the all u have is urself feeling. the art is just unusual i cant even say any of it on its own is in anyway scary. the whole thing shouldnt be scary and yet every time i start wandering in a world i cant help but feel unease. amazing 10/10 no other game will ever have what this gave me.
everyone knows i play pkmn the best is still pmd sky that also rewired my brain i still cant play it without crying.
its been a long time since i was really just playing it as the chapters released & got translated but 1bitheart is so so so important to me too. i dont kin for multiple reasons but if i did nanashi would be my first choice. like- without saying that to her i got my one irl friend to play once & when she saw how nanashi was she turned to me and went "this is just you" hes very important to me even now. absolutely loved the whole friendship sim & the story & its twists & the endings & their implications left me in shambles at 1 am on a school night. my fave charas are nanashi enri & saaya btw. i should replay this.
i also love the etrian odyssey series i love the character portraits (esp with the more recent games' color customization) i LOVE the dungeon art & i think all the monster designs are so cool. adore the whole make ur own map aspect keeps me so entertained to take a step & look around & chart all the walls & path ways. unfortunately i fucking suck at every single one i am not very good at strategy games so i end up stuck at or before the 3rd stratum. but thats okay its still fun to me.
the other one i'll talk about at length is spirit of the north another game i loved the art of. u play as a fox & get a partner spirit fox & i just love it SOOOO much. its also a game with 0 dialogue but theres A Lot going on it if u care to follow along & explore & dig into details & the game play is also pretty fun to me. this is the one game i started learning the speedrun btw thats also a very fun way to play it but ABSOLUTELY play it as intended first it has so much to offer
aaaand special mentions to omori, oneshot, witch's house, mermaid swamp, corpse party, & limbus company

intrigued by what u love most abt yume nikki
like what made u go "oh damn this game is SUCH A GAME"
if u kno what i mean?
im glad you asked. well... holy fuck, i could talk about yume nikki for hours!! but... if i had to summarize it down, heere are some points:
its yume nikki!!! such a unique and different game from anything ive seen, even with its fangames. well if you look back at the gaming scene in 2004, then something like an rpg maker game thats NOT an rpg and actually a weird surrealism thingy was kind of crazy. it does seem to be inspired by the mother series, which has a lot of weird artsy stuff and also lsd dream emulator, also a game where you walk in dreams, which is self explanatory. also it utilizes rpgmaker mechanics in SUCH mindblowing ways, it doesnt even feel like it was made with it. it flows VERY well for a 2004 indie game.
the atmosphere and theming is so awesome. the NPCs who are completely indifferent to you, the worlds all connectin g together, etc. also, the art and music is really charming in kind of a nostalgic way, the aztec inspirations for the npcs, all the different sights and how desolate and lonely it feels, yet kind of still comforting. you know?? like the dreamworld is an escapism for madotsuki, but she still cant escape the horrors of reality..............
3. every part of it is very mysterious. a whole intigue of the game for many people has been what the dreams are really about!! of course there is also the developer kikiyama, who theres practically 0 info on. even though obviously people should respect their privacy, people still wonder what happened or why the game never got finished. i hope they're well....
4. the fanbase of yume nikki is one of the most cool ones ive seen. its one of those old fandoms from back in the 2000s that never stopped going, like touhou.. you can find a lot of old short little animations of yume nikki. theres the big viewed ones, but also ive found really obscure ones with under a 1000 viws, which shows how much people cared about it. even though the game was seen as dark, they were often really wholesome. theres also yume nikki fansites from back then, and a lot of cool fanart. even though the fandom was fairly small, its kind of like a window to how different the internet used to be. now its even more popular with internet horror stuff being more noticed recently.
its just really kind of heartwarming that so many people connected with a short game about isolation and anxiety posted on some forum site back in 2004 by an unknown person, i think.
5. the fangames!!!!!!!! there are so many fangames for this game, all because people liked the idea so much, hundreds of them wanted to try making one. ynfgs are always really charming to play, however none of them compare to yume 2kki ( the big one). its the closest ive ever felt to going to another world in a video game, even more than yume nikki itself.
because so many people have worked on it, 2kki has an endless seeming amount of content which is pretty awesome. some people think its incoherent because of how big the game is, but it always made it feel more like a dream to me. especially like one you would have as a child, falling asleep while being driven home from a birthday party or something like htat. fun fact: 2kki got started in 2007, before the final yume nikki update, which means there is a chance kikiyama might have even played it, which is pretty crazy...
well, thats my rambling about my favorite things about yume niki! lol i think thats too much text, oops. well, high five if you actually read that................. <:,-]

omori earthbound reference
so yeah im a big fan of all the mostly popular RPGs like omori, undertale, and yume nikki but i never actually played the mother(pun intended) of these games...and that's earthbound. Yeah, I know earthbound is like 30 years old but ive literally never been able to play it. Thats why i started it like 2 days ago. And its just as good as everyone says!!! but thats not the point. Im a sucker for connecting the dots and finding cool references within separate games...it makes me feel special. and i just finished omori for the first time about 2 months ago(even though ive had the game for over a year) and i found a reference that nobody really ever talks about!!!
So im not gonna sit here and go over all the basics of omori lore and how the game starts out...but theres a point in the game(i believe its the prologue?) where you end up following Kim and Vance into the candy store in the real world. We meet Miss Candice and she ends almost every sentence with -> "smiley, smiley!"
Tumblr media
And i havent really seen anyone talk about this but thats a reference to earthbound! im in the super early parts of the game(like an hour in) where you go into onett town and just explore...and i started exploring. I went into one of the burger joints i think and there it was! the cashier basically smiles the whole time when you buy stuff from her so its like -> (smile, smile) in the game.
Tumblr media
This would be really funny if this isnt even a reference at all in omori haha. BUT i still thought it was really cool and i got super excited once i found this connection. wooo!!!

sooo basically i started playing deltarune abt a week or two ago and am a lil bit in chapter 2 rn and idk im not rockin with it and always had mixed feelings abt undertale.... like the stories cute and i rly like the main 3 in this game alot and i like the improvement w/ graphical animations (i think a bigger team worked on this one or smthn) and the introduction of grazing which is so cool in an rpg setting to get your magic up. i think undertale/deltarune really is like one of the few turn based rpgs(aside from paper mario and mario & luigi series which it obv takes lots of inspiration from) that manages to make the turn-based combat interactive in a way that doesnt feel awkwardly forced and doesnt feel boring after awhile/always feels fresh and exciting(i guess the mother 3 combos also can be added to those two others i mentioned). the bullet hell stuff always feels v fun but at the same time it feels like im more playing a visual novel lolllll ? like the gameplay is fun in that regard but it really does just feel like im watching a story and the gameplay is this lil bonus i guess that has to do more w/ it being easy so far and there not being much bonus content aside from the main story idk... also smthn abt the way u walk on the overworld is weird to me idk it feels v like rpg maker moment which i guess isnt bad but like it doesnt feel v polished maybe this is just a lil nitpicky thing. but since the games gonna be 7 chapters or smthn i think theres obv a lot of improvements that will be made as it progresses especially in difficulty and feeling more big n stuff. but like idk with undertale i think it really does have undoubtedly a very great soundtrack but deltarune doesnt have any songs that  go as hard yet but the music is still p good. like i have more mixed feelings abt undertale and i can agree that alot of the songs are amazing especially dummy, amalgam, the spider boss song, and death by glamour.. but also w/ undertale i do remember having mixed feelings after playing it. i mean i feel like it was a fusion of earthbound and yume nikki but i dont thing it was greater than the sum of its parts at all i dont even think it reached the sum of its parts. tho ill try to talk abt undertale less since deltarune is obv trying to improve alot abt it. i mean the humor in games are always usually p entertaining but it does feel like a story with lil gameplay elements alot of the time as opposed to like a complete game and alot of the times i play i feel like im just watching cutscenes with jokes and bits n stuff. which normally wouldnt mean much but given that its good stuff is so great like its bullet hell turn based combat stuff and soundtrack im just like oh ok.. like i dont feel like its doing much for the medium of rpgs or anything in the way earthbound and yume nikki did it just doesnt have that reach imo... like its a game that i play but maybe ive been really spoiling myself by only playing games that im in love w/ completely. i am sucha  picky person hawnestly... but at the same time ive really been buying games w/o playing them obv i guess ive just been lucky/smart with what ive been buying. im glad deltarune is free tho thats so cool! iKinda feel like i wish it had more polish n stuff particularly undertale and i rly didnt like having to play thru the game three times to experience ‘all of it’ iirc u had to play the game atleast twice to get the true ending or whatever and i thot that was kinda annoying but i have alot of problems with multiple ending games that i dislike but thats my own lil separate rant lol. i mean idk im kinda dumb its hard for me to talk abt an indie game w/o it v quickly becoming me talking abt what i would do if i made a game lollll... i mean undertale/deltarune as a game feels very heavily reliant on its story/comedy then on its gameplay/battle mechanics they just feel there so that it qualifies as a game. lol.

ive been thinking of gamer headcanons now for my oc’s but then i came to a dilemma that most of them dont even live in modern times so now i gotta au it. starting with my angel oc’s
marcus: dating sims. he spends hundreds of ours on them bc he needs to romance EVERYONE and get every single possible ending, even the bad ones. cries whenever a video game character friendzones him
bella: she’s a casual and she just doesn’t care. she’ll only play if she’s REALLY bored and even then she’s just playing nintendogs or animal crossing or any game which requires raising/training animals or creatures and farming sims
tia: dress up dolls
asnah: he plays indie games that emulate the old 8-bit/16-bit style. also likes obscure horror titles. he’s spent 48 hours straight playing yume nikki and everyone started to worry about him
damien: only likes games that he deems are “intellectually stimulating” enough to his tests. puzzle action games and old school point and click games are his shit. considers looking up walkthroughs a weakness
stephen: plays those “artsy” games with amazing visuals, even if it has limited gameplay. his gaming library is mostly comprised of walking simulators or atmospheric adventure games
abaddon: spends 3 hours building a perfect city on cities: skylines only to destroy it with every natural disaster mod
