Episode 13 is wild but episode 31 is even wilder. Nice try boys, only the gentle slap of another girl can fix whatever the hell is wrong her.

nsfw alphabet: jeff wittek
Tumblr media
hiya everyone! so someone had asked if i could go in-depth on my bdsm breakdown of jeff but i had already gone through the acronym. SO! i remembered that the nsfw alphabet existed and thought it’d be put to great use on this blog. please reblog or like if you enjoyed! :)
a = aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
jeff is definitely very caring after sex. if he knew he pushed you and went a little too rough on you, i could 100% see him getting an ice pack for your welts or putting some cream on them just to make sure you’re okay. i also feel like after sex, he would check in to see if you enjoyed yourself because he believes he has to have a top performance. imagine he went to rough on you and you were having trouble walking, so he picks you up bridal style and carries you to the bathroom to make sure you pee (no uti’s in this bitch) and to make sure you’re cared for. then he’d carry you back to bed and tuck you in:,)
b = body part (their favorite body part of their partner’s)
i believe jeff is an ass guy. some may debate on this BUT even if you don’t have the thiccest of the thiccy, he would love it regardless. with or without the sex, he seems like the type to always have his hands on your ass no matter what. doing dishes? his hands smack your ass. y’all are kissing? his hands are on your ass. if you’re riding him, he would most definitely guide you with his hands on your probably already bright red cheeks. / if you wanna read a little bit more about this, read my bdsm breakdown!
c = cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
he’d def want to finish on your ass or all over your tits. if he’s fucking you doggystyle and is about to come, he’d pull out and release his cum all over your ass. if he was finishing while y’all were in missionary, he’d instruct you to sit up on your knees and push your tits together. you’d put your tongue out just to see if you’d get a little taste of his cum and he’d jack himself off and aim at your tits.
d = dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
sometimes he’d like to pick fights with you because he knew the makeup sex would be BOMB AF. or even if y’all didn’t make up, the angry sex would be so rough and fulfilling. he’d love to have the chance to wrap his hand around your throat or manhandle you but you didn’t mind it at all because it was CONSENSUAL and you knew he wouldn’t push the boundary.
e = experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
i’d say he’s very experienced. he lost his virginity at the age of 12 so he’s had about 18 years of practice. plus his last girlfriend is spicy as hell so i wouldn’t surprised if they fucked all the time or had $picy sex :)
f = favorite position (this goes without saying)
doggy.
g = goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
not really. not to say y’all would never be goofy but i’ve always thought that like if something went wrong during sex, you would laugh it off and he’d get embarrassed. imagine you and the vlog squad are taking a trip in an rv. so you and jeff are trying to get it on in the bunks, i could 100% see him fucking hit his head off the top bunk and you’re just laughing his ass off and he keeps on saying that it isn’t funny and to shut the fuck up lol
h = hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
he is 100% a ken doll down there. he cares a lot about his image so i’m sure he’s well maintained under there.
i = intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
“as far as making love, i can see him as extremely passionate but soft at the same time? like i feel like he would be soft in the way of talking to you. like i can imagine him gassing you up and just calling you beautiful and telling you how much he loves your certain features. like he’d just be a complete softie! his strokes would 100% send it home and he’d probably be gripping the headboard while thrusting into you passionately.“ (taken from one of my blurbs)
j = jack off (masturbation headcanon)
if you went on a business trip or a vacation, he is def relying on his hand. if you’re around, i can’t see him doing it often. maybe you had somewhere to be and he caught a glimpse of you and got horny. so while you’re gone, he decides to masturbate and you realize that you left something. so you walk back to the apartment and nerf comes tapping to you. hearing moans coming from the bedroom, you turn to nerf and say ”hey nerf, what is daddy doing?” you inch closer to the door and the moans become more prominent. slowly opening the door, you’re met with a naked jeff, abs well defined, and his hair sticking to his forehead due to all the sweat. “woah woah woah, y/n, what are ya doin’?” he’d panic. getting all shy, you’d tell him to continue and pretend you’re not even there as you search for the item you left behind lol
k = kink (one or more of their kinks)
“some kinks that i see jeff would have are: double penetration, dirty talk/degradation, and candle wax play. when it comes to double penetration, i don’t mean in the typical way of two people filling both holes. i don’t think jeff would want to share his partner so i envision more of his partner (who has a vagina) wearing a butt plug while he fucks his partner’s vagina. another kink we can explore is dirty talk with degradation. just like david, i can see him saying stuff like ‘can you take daddy’s cock like a good girl?’ (hehe daddy kink) and ‘do you like it when daddy fills your holes like the slut you are?’ dirty stuff like that ya kno?“ (taken from one of my blurbs)
l = location (favorite places to do the do)
it depends. if y’all are at a hotel for example (like the one in miami), it’s the balcony. i could see him fucking you from behind while pulling your hair and nipping at your neck. if it’s a casual day in the life; the bed, the couch, or maybe even the barber chair? when i think about having sex in the chair, i think of his partner first giving him head while he’s sitting in the chair, then transitioning to riding him in the chair, and maybe you’re holding onto the arms of the check and fucks you from the back. :,)
m = motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
what turns jeff on? every part of your being. as corny as it sounds, he seems like you could just make a funny joke and everyone laughing would turn him on????? that maybe sounds weird but he’d be so into you that something as simple as that could get him going. also when he catches you dancing at a party and just exuding confidence all over the place!
n = no (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
probably roleplay and every that’s too taboo. i could see him not enjoying roleplay because he’d think it’s “too cheesy”
o = oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
i believe he prefers to receive other than give. and no one come for my neck for saying that. it doesn’t make him selfish because his stroke games seems a1.
p = pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
it depends. if y’all are making love, it’s slow and sensual. if it’s a hookup or just fucking, y’all are going fast and rough. (here’s a blurb where i talk about both of these)
q = quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
they wouldn’t happen often but if you did it, it was in a public place. i can totally see jeff and his partner hooking up really quick in david’s bathroom during a party because y’all literally couldn’t wait till y’all got home. other than that, i feel like he really wouldn’t like to rushed so quickies didn’t happy as often as with someone like david.
r = risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
i think he’s down to experiment but it depends. i don’t see him as OUTRAGEOUSLY kinky but say one night you’re like “hey wanna try anal?” he might be hesitant at first but try it after you beg him. i feel like if it’s what his partner wants, he’ll do it because he’s a sucker for them.
s = stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
he’s a pretty healthy guy so i’d say three rounds TOPS. and as far as how long does he last? i’d say 30-45 minutes!
t = toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
the only toy i could envision him wanting to try on you is a butt plug. due to the fact i’ve stated that i think he’s an ass guy, i think he would go nuts to see his princess with a pink and glitter butt plug in all its glory. :,)
u = unfair (how much they like to tease)
i don’t think he’s into teasing that much during sex. i think he’s clear, concise and to the point. however, i believe he’d be the biggest tease before sex. like imagine sitting on his lap in david’s tesla after leaving the club. and his hands are just stroking the inner part of thighs and he’d lean into your ear and say something like “can’t wait till we get home mmmm-” and then kiss your neck
v = volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
he’s definitely loud. matt king said he was loud when he masturbates and i believe it. i feel like he has more breathy moans and low moans???? definitely a grunter as well
w = wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
he’s definitely against threesomes with a male partner. he may be willing to share you with a female friend but i could see him still getting jealous over sharing you. if there was a threesome with you and another woman, he would be the one to dictate the situation. like telling you two to kiss and or feel each other’s tits or get the other woman off.
x = x-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
this has been a topic of discussion many of times on my blog but i’ve come to the conclusion; he may not be thick but he’s long.
y = yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
he definitely has a high sex drive. y’all remember that jeff’s barbershop episode when matt said he could hear jeff masturbate a lot? joke or not, i believe it. due to his flirty nature as well, i could see him definitely down to fuck 24/7.
z = zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
i feel like he would knock tf out. this guy gets up early in the morning and powers throughout the day so if y’all have sex late at night, he’s knocked. but if it’s early in the mornings, that’s just one way for him to start the day. he would probably lay in bed for like 30 minutes then take a shower and start his day.

Fall 2018 First Impressions
It’s a new season which means new shows which means impressions of the shows I picked up after 3 episodes. I’ve picked up quite a few more shows this season than I usually do. So I’ve either been really bored, or there’s a pretty good selection of exciting new shows. Let’s take a look.
Zombieland Saga
There was a bit of quiet excitement for this show before it came out, and it had unexpectedly good reviews coming out of a private prescreening. So what’s the show about? Well zombies being idols of course. Yes, you were tricked into watching an idol show and now you’re actually loving it. It’s not a traditional idol show by any counts because the first episode was metal, and then the 2nd episode had a rap battle, and so on. I’ll admit the 3rd episode was a bit disappointing compared to the first two but it was still enjoyable. There’s a lot of questions for the show going forward, but so far I’ve really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend giving it a go.
Tumblr media
Goblin Slayer
The first episode came out and this was the hottest show to talk about. Not exactly because the first episode was so amazing, but because it was very controversial and contained some graphic sexual imagery (adventurer being raped by goblins). The show is unsurprisingly about an adventurer that goes and slays goblins, and so far that’s really it. The story is loosely based off of the author’s many years of role playing games and it shows a lot in the world too. You’re basically watching an animated DnD campaign. After the edge got toned down from the first episode it’s a reasonable but not particularly noteworthy fantasy show.
Tumblr media
Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai
I still don’t know what people are calling this show short hand, so I’m gonna go with Bunny Senpai. The comparisons to Monogatari and Oregairu are apt, but do sell the show sort of its own charm. One thing the show really has going for it is that by the 3rd episode it has already finished its first arc which gives you a really good idea of what exactly you’re going to get for the rest of the show. There isn’t a lot of wasted time on needless things, and the chemistry/banter between the two leads has been good so far. If you’re looking for a character based drama/romance/something than this is a solid pick. I’m definitely excited to see how the show ends up.
Tumblr media
Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken
I’ve been reincarnated as a slime has been a surprising treat. Going in I was expecting “just another Isekai with a twist” but it’s done quite a bit to set itself apart from the rest of the pack. The premise is pretty fun, it’s got a bright and colorful animation style, and the studio is making excellent use of digital effects in the production. So far it’s been a charming adventure of a slime consuming the world it comes across and assimilating it all and learning new skills. The world seems to be heavily based off of RPGs and the OST plays into that with some great classic video gamesque music. This is quite the fun Isekai and I’d give it a go if you were looking for something a little more light hearted.
Tumblr media
JoJo part 5:  Vento Aureo
Are you watching JoJo? If you’re not you really should be. Since this is the 5th entry into a series I’m not really gonna be trying to convince you to pick up JoJo since there’s quite a bit to see before this, so I’m just gonna comment on how good it is. David Pro has knocked it out of the park with Vento Aureo. The animation is exceptional, the stands look so good animated, really everything is good so far. The ED caught me off guard so hard, but I’m loving it now lol. It’s been so long since I’ve read part 5, and part of what I read was the not as great scanlations so there are large parts of the show that I’ve completely forgotten or were sort of unclear when I read it. Getting to see those animated is going to be at treat.
Tumblr media
SSSS.Gridman
Trigger’s show for the season has got me really excited. It’s a mecha that pays homage to the classics but with a good modern touch the to animation style and character designs. I’m not really sure how to describe this show tbh. There are mecha, kaiju, the over the top Trigger touch, and so on. Understanding the historical context of the show as well as some of the directing choices really made me appreciate the show a lot more. So I’m going to leave a link to Sakugabooru’s production notes for the first two episodes. It was a very insightful read. I wasn’t entirely sold after the first episode, but it’s been growing on my steadily. Having a great time with this one so far.
Sakugabooru post

Release the Spyce
Did you watch Yuru Yuri and think to yourself this is pretty swell, but what if they were spies that got pseudo super speed/agility by eating spices. Then I have the show for you. Character designs are done by Namori and I want to say the director worked on Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero. So far it’s been cute and fluffy as you’d expect from something Namori is working on, but the content itself actually goes really hard. There have been drug rings, brothels, military smuggling, illegal pharmaceuticals, and so on. I’m actually sort of expecting this one to end up quite a bit darker than it has started out. Also the OST is amazing and just throws out trap and dubstep bangers during fight scenes. It was so unexpected but it really adds so much to the aesthetic of the show. Definitely excited to watch more of this.
Tumblr media
Skull faced Bookseller Honda-San
And to round things out I’ve got a short at the end of the list. The show is about Honda and his colleagues that work at a bookstore and their daily adventures of dealing with customers, sales people, and all the daily tasks of running a retail store. I suspect that if you’ve worked in retail, or more specifically a bookstore, this will be extra funny. Even if you haven’t it’s a good laugh.
Tumblr media
And that’s it! This one got a little long, but I hope you enjoy it or something.

Super Short Reviews: winter tv part three (and last) 2019:
Perfume (Netflix) – Germany.   Another knock out murder mystery from Germany, this one is so dark its similar to the Swedish mysteries.  Strong ensemble cast; its clear from the beginning that the disturbing murder is only scratching the surface of many more bad deeds of the past.  Naughty naughty!
Informer (Amazon) – UK.  Paddy Constantine is as loveable as ever as a CI handler who waffles between looking grumpy and lost.  His partner looks like a child who cant decide which is more surprising – that she’s an actor at all, or that she was cast on a show about terrorists.  But the star here is Nabhaan Rizwan with his dreamy leading man eyes and biting street smart wit.  He makes this show.  Werk!!
Diablero (Netlix) – Mexico.  The priest looks like Michael Buble which I found exceptionally amusing and distracting. I couldn’t tell from the first 2 episodes if the actors just hadn’t settled into their demon hunting roles yet, or the director couldn’t decide what style he was going for.  If they land in the B-movie horror camp I think people could enjoy it.
Deadly Class (SyFy) – Based on the graphic novel.  I especially dig the 80s music and the Henry Rollins.  You don’t have to be a teeneager to enjoy this – since it takes place during the Regan administration rule, Gen-x viewers will likely get way more of the references than Gen-z. Benedict Wong has great fun as the principal of this school for assassins and Lara Condor is a gem as his star pupil.  She even wears a Bad Religion t-shirt in one episode.  It was not an historically correct t-shirt but hey at least they tried.
Wayne (YouTube) – 16 year old me would have been OBSESSED with this show, so if you fall into that age group please enjoy the crap out of it for me.  This kid makes more trouble in the first episode than most kids do their entire lives. Also anything that makes fun of Southies is great by me.  Funny, sad, dark, and awesome -- and huge props to Mark McKenna who takes on the dialect like a native.  (And he was also in one of my favourite movie ever Sing Street!! blatant plug)
Selection Day (Netflix) – India.  I don’t understand cricket so it took me a minute to get into this... but when the two boys (played by Mohammed Samad and Yash Dhohle) get to stretch their emotional wings my heart was bowled into rooting for them. (Lame attempt at a cricket pun.)  Plus who doesn’t love a little magical realism?
The Other Two (Comedy Central) – I laughed.  Its a send up of childhood overnight youtube stardom, and crazy people in loveable but crazy New York.   Plus Molly Shannon and Ken Marino -- Who doesnt love those two crazies?
Demon’s Path  (Netflix) – Hong Kong.  You know when you were in junior high / high school and you made bad home movies with people that couldn’t really act and dialogue that wasn’t really good?  This is a lot like that.  How is a 16 year old on the police force?  Its impossible to make a supernatural story line work with goofy acting … but maybe Hong Kong, like Korea, doesn’t consider this goofy acting. Maybe they think all our shows are goofy acting.  I dunno.
Black Earth Rising (Netflix) – UK. This is super heavy.  You’ve got the Rwandan genocide, the war in the Congo, a big trial at the Hague, and some mysterious events of the past that John Goodman knows but will never tell.  Bonus: Harriet Walter!
Four More Shots Please (Amazon) – India.  These people are actually speaking English most of the time but if you’re like me you’ll need to turn the subtitles on. Plot:  Four plucky young women traverse life and love (or at least sex) in Mumbai. Style: It’s not quite SATC but there is a dance number!!  (duh its Mumbai!)
Justice (Netflix) – UAE.  The genre is legal procedural.  But the style is almost soap opera.  And the music is all over the place.  Confusing.  Still, Fatima Al Taei makes a strong case (pun intended) for herself as a young, intelligent, female lead, and the stories highlight the complex struggles between traditionalism and modernism.  Netflix’ first Emirati show.
Sex Education (Netflix) – UK. Tempting to describe this using only emojis (ha ha ha!)  But seriously, Asa Butterfield has grown up to be the awkward-ish high school son to Gillian Anderson’s single sex therapist mother. Sooooooo fun to see Gillian in a comedic role!! (and a mod haircut to boot.)  Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa shine as the best friends ready to drive or support any potentially comedic ‘therapy.’
Sydney to the Max (Disney) – Yay Caroline Rhea!  Another one for the teeny boppers; this show centers on the cute juxtaposition of a girl in seventh grade and her dad’s memories of the same grade in 1992.  The girl acts waaaaaay younger than my seventh grader, but hey, maybe these people live in some nice hubba bubblea suburb.
Kingdom (Netflix) – Korea.  Visually beautiful –  a lot like the Japan episode of Westworld.  Government factions fight each other – a lot like the Japan episode of Westworld.  Beautful people do monstrous things – a lot like the Japan episode of Westworld.   But how you know that its NOT the Japan episode of Westworld is howwwwww slooooooooow eeeeeeveryyyyyyone iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis.  I wonder if Koreans think everyone on our shows talk way too quickly.
I Am The Night (TNT) – actually a mini-series but I’m throwing it in here anyway  cuz I enjoyed it. Patty Jenkins and Chris Pine reunite to tell a story (mostly fictional) of the real Fauna Hodel and the really bizarre people she meets as she tries to discover who her real family is.  I loved the 1960s detailed pictures (shot on Kodak film) of Los Angeles and  India Eisley is great in her wounded kitten portrayal of Fauna.

The Brain from Planet Arous
I told you I'd get to this one.  It was directed by Nathan H. Juran from The Deadly Mantis, and it stars Joyce Meadows from The Girl in Lover's Lane, Ken Terrell from The Indestructible Man, and everybody's least-favourite greasy pontificator of things he knows bupkis about, John Agar.  The plot's about an evil brain from another planet.  It's as if the movie has a sign taped to its back that says MST3K ME, and who am I to refuse?
Two scientists, Steve and Dan, are picking up strange gamma rays from Mystery Mountain (the name Mystery Mountain is a good indicator of the level of storytelling we’re going to be seeing here).  They head out to investigate and only Steve returns... but he's different, somehow.  For one thing, he's suddenly much better at kissing.  For another, the family dog tries to attack him.  And the last straw, he's talking about taking over the world!  Yep, Steve's been taken over by an evil alien brain monster named Gor!  Fortuanately for the Earth, a second brain, called Vol, has been sent to track Gor down.  With Vol's help, Steve's girlfriend Sally may be able to save him – and the entire world!
The main attraction of The Brain from Planet Arous, besides its silly premise, is obviously the special effects. Gor and Vol themselves are generally represented by immobile images of brains with glowing eyes superimposed on the film, while somebody delivers lines in an echoey voice.  This is pretty funny by itself.  Then when the film needs Gor to be solid in order to interact with objects in a scene, we discover that it is actually an inflatable brain hanging from a string, trailing a spinal cord behind it like a tail!  Steve proceeds to attack this with an axe, making me a little sad that Gor's end wasn't to be popped like a balloon.
Tumblr media
A lot of effort clearly went into this prop, with its light-up eyes and elaborate paint job depicting the folds and wrinkles of the cerebral cortex.  It's got a divide between the hemispheres and a little cerebellum, but no attempt to reproduce the structure of the major lobes of the human brain.  The latter is a bit unfortunate, since there's a major plot point about how Gor can only be killed by being stabbed in the fissure of Rolando (more properly known as the central sulcus, which divides the parietal and frontal lobes).  How we're supposed to know which of Gor's many squiggly bits is the fissure of Rolando is beyond me.
Then there are Gor's 'powers'.  Its entering Steve's body is represented by the superimposed brain shrinking and fading away while sort of overlapping with the image of John Agar on he film.  There's a bit where Gor blows up a plane with its mind, which is of course achieved by blowing up a model, bits of which remain twirling on the string. Gor incinerates people by having a bright light pulse while they writhe and fall down, and the super-explosive, of course, is stock footage of an atom bomb test.  The only effect that really works is the way Steve's eyes go silver when Gor uses these powers.  This appears to be accomplished by reflective contact lenses and it's quite creepy-looking, especially when we see Steve's face partially hidden by blinds or distorted by a water cooler.
Tumblr media
The second most MSTable feature is the dialogue, which borders on the indescribable.  The existence of a place called fucking Mystery Mountain is only the beginning.  Let me give you some of my favourites.  At the beginning of the movie:
SALLY: “Do you know it's 3 o'clock and you mad scientists haven't even stopped for lunch?” DAN: “No wonder I've been getting insulting messages from my stomach!”
Or, when Vol shows up to ask for help:
VOL: “You can help me save the Earth from a terrible experience. Yes, the whole Earth.”
And Gor gives villain speeches that Lex Luthor would declare too cheesy:
GOR: “Power?  That's what everyone wants!  That's why the office boy wants to be the boss, that's why the private wants to be the general.  Power!  And I've got it!”
There are also some headache-inducing continuity errors.  First Steve says nobody has been to Mystery Mountain since 1900, then he says that he was there just last winter!  Later, Sally agrees that she's been on the mountain before, and Gor's cave is a new formation.  I guess main characters don't count as 'somebody'.  Or how about where Steve and Dan work?  The scientist investigating the radiation at the plane wreck talks to Steve as if they work together at Indian Springs (Creech Air Force Base, Nevada), and yet Gor had to ask to come to the atom bomb test as an observer, rather than as somebody directly involved.  I have no idea why Gor lets George the dog hang around after George attacked Gor the first time they met.
Tumblr media
So the movie is very cheap and very bad, but there's actually some pretty interesting stuff in it.  Gor and Vol's species has evolved beyond bodies and language and food and all that, but Gor at least does not find this to be the desirable state the Observers would have us believe.  Most of us probably think of the archetypal 'emotionless alien' as being like Star Trek's Vulcans, who consider emotions a primitive thing that they are better off for having discarded.  Gor, on the other hand, is more like the Kelvans from the second season episode By Any Other Name, who discover that having bodies and being subject to needs and emotions is a lot of fun.  Food is delicious!  Kissing is great!  Booze is amazing! Man is a Feeling Creature, and because of it, the Greatest in the Universe, and Gor wants some of that action!
And what is Gor's favourite physical need?  Why, sex, of course, as demonstrated by its behaviour towards Sally, whom it describes as a very exciting female.  I think the reason it took Possessed Steve a week to return from Mystery Mountain is because that's how long it took Gor to get tired of sitting in its cave jerking off.
I won’t apologize for making you think about John Agar masturbating. The movie made me think about it, so we have to suffer together.
Tumblr media
The Brain from Planet Arous actually has a weirdly ambiguous attitude towards sexual desire.  Gor has no libido of its own, so what it feels for Sally while in Steve's body must be entirely Steve – and it's evidently pretty potent, since Gor attempts to rape her the first time it sees her, and is stopped only by an attack from George the dog.  Steve without Gor, however, does not behave as if he's physically attracted to Sally at all.  In the first scene, when she arrives to announce she's made lunch, he kisses her chastely on the cheek and then resumes talking science.  He's not even particularly interested in the food, since it's Dan who repeatedly insists that they stop and eat!
Steve isn't exactly our hero in this movie, spending most of it as a helpless victim, but he's clearly supposed to be sympathetic and generally a good person despite being John Agar.  We must therefore assume that it's Steve's attitude towards love that the movie considers right and proper.  Steve kisses Sally on the lips at the end, but still not with the ferocity Gor did.  At the beginning of the movie, in the time when we're supposed to be getting to know Steve as Steve, he almost entirely ignores her, as if she's more of a housekeeper than a girlfriend.  All his passion is for ill-defined science.  It seems as if humanity, as represented by this man, is well on our way to evolving into space brains ourselves, unmoved by food or sex or indeed by anything but pure rational thought.
The actual hero of the movie, I guess, is Vol – Vol has come to Earth to stop Gor, and with help from Sally and her father, it succeeds.  Vol, too, decides to occupy a body in order to work on Earth without being noticed.  Sally offers hers, but Vol ends up choosing George the dog, and as far as we can tell it remains entirely undistracted by George's needs and desires.  Maybe we're supposed to assume this has something to do with the dog having a less complex mind than a human being... but in that case, less thought surely ought to mean that the natural urges would be even more compelling!  Instead, the idea seems to be that Vol has more willpower than Gor, and is therefore a better being.  Again, things like sex and hunger are simply irrelevant to a truly great mind.
Tumblr media
For this reason, the movie would make for an interesting double feature with It Conquered the World.  Both depict emotion as purely human, but while Beulah feared emotions, Gor revels in them. It Conquered the World suggested that all emotions are equally essential to the human experience, whether love or hate, joy or rage – The Brain from Planet Arous divides emotions into good and evil, contrasting Steve's love with Gor's lust, Steve's humility with Gor's arrogance.  Of the two approaches, The Brain from Planet Arous' is the more cliché and therefore less interesting one, and I'm not sure how much the movie was meant to explore its themes and sexual hangups.  It may have been intended as nothing more than another 'aliens stand in for Red Scare' film.
Also, I gotta ask... has a John Agar movie ever had a decent ending?  Because this one is shit.  Steve asks Sally how she knew that Gor could be killed by a blow to the fissure of Ro-lan-dooooooo!  Ahem.  So she explains about Vol in George's body, but Vol has already departed.  Steve then laughs at her for imagining things, despite the fact that she clearly got the information from somewhere and he has himself been doing psychological battle with an alien brain creature!  I hope she dumped him.  Maybe she could marry Vol instead.  He'd be just as good in bed, and far more respectful.

@todaydreambelievers - week 2 meta
There's not much that I like to write about in "Showmance."  [although half of this post ends up belying that point.]
A few short scenes of connection between the Glee kids: in the parking lot, singing together, in their secret kids-only meeting, featuring the adorable 'we'll give them what they want' - 'blood?' - 'better. sex.' exchange… even in Finn and Rachel's first 'date,' for all its strange and vulnerable teenage awkwardness, and for all the moral ambiguity brought in by cheating.  The way that Finn likes Rachel's intensity - the way that Rachel laughs at his 'airplane cups' comment, even though it's a non sequitor, and says out loud, despite all the rules, what she wants - it's sweet.  (If you can put Quinn to the side, anyway.)
But… people who like each other, or like what they're doing, get barely any screentime in this episode.  (Or in much of early!Glee, my impressions say.)  It's funny, because Glee became not only famous but also slammed for its sincerity, but at this point it's so very full of pointedly-depicted awfulness and satire.  Everything about Sue, McKinley as an institution, Ken, Terri, and Celibacy Club… they bounce back and forth between (horrific) realism and caricature, but there's nothing about them that's likable.
Sympathetic?  Sometimes, maybe.  I feel sorry for Terri, whose husband doesn't seem emotionally invested in their marriage, who doesn't seem to have any joy in her life.  I feel straight-up awful for Quinn, even when she's being awful - trying to control Finn's activities - but by trading access to touching her breasts!?  (Honestly that must reflect worse on Finn than it does on her.)  Or when she says 'don't you dare say the C-word!'… if only she'd had some, y'know?
Also, all these awful people and things are funny.  Or - I can tell they're supposed to be funny?  They should be.  But somehow when Terri talks about blue and pink Christmas trees, when Sue makes a scene about the copier, when Emma tells Rachel that one day she'll be glad she doesn't have a gag reflex - I don't laugh.  Is it cause I'm too busy frowning, maybe?  I like dark humor sometimes, but I don't like this, whatever it's called.  I JUST LIKE LIKING THINGS (and people).  I guess, maybe.  I don't know.
(I really would like to figure out, actually, why I love, e.g., Game of Thrones, but somehow 'your job sucks and your marriage sucks and there are barely any good choices anywhere' is "too dark" for me.  There are different flavors one might call dark, clearly.  But what are they?)
Anyway.  Going back to Glee - I also do not appreciate that the most significant bits that we see of people who do actually care about and like each other are cheating couples.  (Rachel/Finn and Will/Emma).  Get out of the relationship if you don't like it! - especially if you're in high school, jeez - or work on staying committed to it.
"Tell me if you have a problem, don't cheat on me!"
Also I would like to note re: Will/Emma that Emma is in fact thoughtful, kind, etc., to Will, and also!  Twice now in the first two episodes!  Has the strength of character to not do what's easy or attractive, but what she truly wants or thinks is right… even if the first of these boundary-drawings, in which she says 'no' outright to Ken, is effectively reversed by the second one, in which she says 'no' to Will in part by saying 'yes' to Ken after all.  Still, she's trying her best, and trying hard, and even making an effort to do her job well and help students, too, and I LOVE EMMA PILLSBURY SO MUCH, okay.
But!  As I was going to say!  Will, in contrast to Emma  - he cares about her, and he thinks he's helping, but she says 'no no I'm not comfortable with that,' and her puts chalk dust on her nose anyway.  And both her wide eyes and the background music cues seem to think that it's romantic, ugh.  And it's even worse when you think back to the last paragraph (and ahead into her story).  Setting boundaries is something that Emma tries to do repeatedly.  Sadly, the combination of her loneliness and the shittiness of everyone who ever seems to be interested in her, makes this much harder than it should be.
As for Finn/Rachel - she's copying the scene of "You Are Woman, I Am Man," from Funny Girl on that stage, but I need to write about that under the appropriate gifset and other-peoples' tags.
As for… everything else… it's much easier to be 'sexy' when the possibility of sex isn't real to you yet.  See: Rachel now vs. later, and Kurt in "Push It" vs. bb!penguin Kurt.  Hey, also, see Quinn, who actually had sex (when drunk, and pressured) despite the fact that she was also clearly not readly.  PERFORMANCE IS SAFE (I think this re: sexuality comes up a lot in Glee, though not usually explicitly), and banning it helps no one… but teenagers play and flirt with this stuff before they want it for real.  ('We'?  I want to say 'we,' lol, because I'm not a teen but I was like this when I was.)
I'm not sure what else I have to say, but I have no idea how to sum up.  There's so much I don't like… but it turns out, I still have more to say about the parts I do?  Even with the worst of intentions, etc., my plans to complain are foiled once again.
first star: EMMA PILLSBURY, MY LOVE. second star: Rachel Berry, with the gavel. third star: Kurt Hummel, and the daring ass slap.
(what do you mean there are no stars in Glee?  Of course there are!  MY GOLD STAR IS A METAPHOR FOR ME BEING A STAR.  … and also… I do what I want.)

Judd Apatow Talks Final Season of ‘Girls,’ His Next HBO Series, ‘Crashing,’ and the Return of ‘Love’

Once upon a time, television wasn’t very kind to Judd Apatow. Back at the turn of the millennium, the triple-threat writer/director/producer watched as his beloved comedies Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared were sent to the cancellation gallows despite terrific reviews and devoted fanbases. Turning his back on TV, Apatow went on to scale new heights of success with blockbuster big-screen comedies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up.
And those success stories, in turn, led him back to television, this time with drastically different results. For the past five years, Apatow has been an executive producer of Lena Dunham’s acclaimed HBO series Girls, which is about to launch its sixth and final season on Feb. 12. The following week, he’ll unveil his next HBO series, Crashing, a peek at the contemporary New York stand-up comedy scene with comic Pete Holmes as our guide. And Mar. 10 brings the second season of Love, Apatow’s popular Netflix series starring Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs as a pair of Angelenos in the throes of a tortured romance. In a wide-ranging interview, Yahoo TV spoke with the prolific producer at length about his three shows and why he’s thrilled to be part of the cable and streaming arm of the Peak TV era.

Going into this last season of Girls, it must have been nice knowing that everyone was working towards a definitive endpoint. It’s always fun to work on the last season of the series, because when you work on a show, you’re always trying to slow things down. There’s a natural momentum towards things working out or crashing and you don’t want a lot of those things to happen, because if they do, the show is over! So it’s nice when you can do them, because you are actually ending the show. Some of the difficulty with this show was figuring out how to let the characters mature, and the rate at which they’re maturing. Last season, knowing that it was the second-to-last season, we were able to have fun with them getting a little bit smarter. Or, if they were stuck, it felt even worse because they’re reaching the end of their 20s and things still aren’t working out. That’s what happens with friends — some people get their lives together and others just spin out and crash.
As you build towards the finale, how definitive will the conclusion be? Will there be some open-ended questions left for fans to think about? Well, you can’t get definitive when you end a TV show. One thing that I keep thinking is that the end of The Sopranos is genius. Because there’s really no end for these characters; unless they all go down in a shipwreck, they’re going to live on and we’re not going to know what happens afterwards. And The Sopranos ending really captured that. As we worked on this season, I thought a lot about how different shows ended, and I think that the ending of this season of Girls is very interesting, and hopefully people will like it. But there’s almost no way to satisfy everybody, because people have their own hopes and dreams for what will happen to these characters.

Some of my favorite Girls episodes are the standalone installments that pop up during the course of a season — like “One Man’s Trash” in Season 2 or “The Panic in Central Park” during Season 5. Are there any planned for this final year? There’s one standalone this year that I think is really incredible. I’ve always enjoyed those episodes. Sometimes we’ll be talking about the arc for the season, and Lena will go off to write an episode, and then suddenly she’ll just hand in a little movie that has nothing to do with the rest of the season. She just gets inspired. We often never discuss those in the writer’s room, and they’ve been some of the best episodes of the series. Lena hasn’t made a movie since Tiny Furniture, but in a way, she’s gotten to make a whole bunch of movies during the life of the show.

Looking back on the legacy of the show, what do you think Girls achieved during its six-season run? When the process started, it felt like a way of doing an independent film on television. We were trying to find a way to capture what Lena did with Tiny Furniture and do it every week on HBO. I feel like Lena shows so much courage to be honest in a way that people hadn’t really been before in television, both emotionally and with her willingness to be very explicit in portraying relationships and sexuality. I think she busted down a lot of walls by talking about things that haven’t been explored on television very often. Now there are a lot of shows that go that deep and that brutally honest, shows about women, and shows about men and women. If you look at television before Girls and after Girls, it’s changed a lot. I think she’s been a big part of this Golden Era of TV, and I think her work, along with Amy Poehler’s work and Tina Fey’s work, has inspired a lot of women to create television and to create and star in television. That’s a fantastic thing.

You can certainly see Girls’ influence on a show like Crashing, which also has a very scruffy, indie film-feel. What was the process of developing the series with Pete Holmes? I met with Pete five or six years ago when doing his podcast, You Made it Weird. I didn’t even know who he was; his manager’s a friend of mine, so I was doing it as a favor, and I had such a great time. We did it in front of an audience at the South by Southwest festival, and the other guests were Kumail Nanjiani, Todd Barry, and Chris Gethard. Then he asked me to come on his TBS talk show, The Pete Holmes Show, and we did a filmed sketch where he was pitching me movie and TV ideas. One of those ideas was a series about Pete’s life after his wife cheats on him and he tries to be a comedian. In the sketch, I said, “Well, that’s just too sad. Who would want to watch that?” He was pitching it as a joke, but then we started talking about it and we developed the idea.
Tumblr media
Pete Holmes as a struggling comic in ‘Crashing’ (Credit: HBO)
I love exploring the world of comedians, and although there are some shows in which people play comedians, I don’t think any series really explores it deeply and fully like this. We see a young comedian in New York who isn’t good at his craft yet, so he struggles because he needs money and it’s hard to live in New York. Because he’s sleeping on different peoples’ couches, it gave us an opportunity to have all of our favorite comedians on the show. One week it’s Artie Lange, another week it’s T.J. Miller, and another week it’s Sarah Silverman. It’s a really great format to show how different people live.
Pete Holmes plays “Pete Holmes” on the show, and the guest stars all play themselves as well. Was that your intention from the beginning? I used to work on The Larry Sanders Show, and I love when people play themselves. I think people are so interesting and rarely get a chance to tap into who they really are. So when we find someone like Artie Lange, we’re writing a story that’s fabricated, but within the making of that episode, we’re improvising and talking with Artie to discuss what his life is really like and what his struggles are. Some of it’s really hilarious, and sometimes it’s really sad and moving. That’s a unique feature of the show; the people aren’t really satirizing themselves, they’re actually trying to get very close to the truth of who they are. That’s something we tried to do at Larry Sanders — using people’s actual lives to get as close to the truth as we can while still telling a funny story.
Is the New York stand-up comedy community depicted in the series a mash-up of the current scene, as well as the early ‘90s when you were trying to make it as a comedian? This is the modern version of trying to break into the comedy scene in New York. A lot of people bark — which means they hand out flyers all night — and if they can get enough people to go to a certain club, they’re allowed to go on at the end of the night in front of the last two people who haven’t left. It’s a brutal way to break in. There’s a lot of desperation for people just starting out. You have to be very strong, because sometimes they’ll only let you go on if you buy two drinks. Or you can only get on if you bring a certain amount of friends. There’s always the obstacles to getting stage time. So we’re trying to show how rough it can be to establish yourself and to get enough stage time to get better. It’s hard to get better when you’re performing for three people at 2:30 in the morning! [Laughs]
You mentioned Pete’s podcast, which is a new outlet for comedians to reach the public. Comics like Marc Maron, Scott Aukerman, and Lauren Lapkus are all finding a lot of success in that medium. Is that a phenomenon that interests you? I hadn’t thought about that before, but I do think it’s true. When I was starting out, I looked up to people like Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld, but there were no podcasts, so you didn’t really get to know these people. I used to interview them for my high school radio station because I wanted to know who they were, and one of the reasons why I did that was because something like podcasting didn’t exist. We all love somebody like T.J. Miller, and one of the reasons why we like him is we might have heard him talk for hours and hours to another comedian and really reveal himself. We have much more intimate relationships with these comedians who we’re fans of [today].
Tumblr media

Will Crashing have a season-long arc, or is it more of a couch-to-couch structure? There is an arc in that Pete sleeps on a series of couches, but also deals with larger problems over the course of the season. A lot of it is about, “Can Pete keep his soul while trying to be a comedian in New York?” We shoot it in New York, and we shoot on film. I said, “You know what? No one shoots on film anymore. None of these shows are on film. They all look the same, because they’re all digital.”
Crashing and Girls capture neighborhoods of New York you don’t often see on TV, and Love does the same thing for Los Angeles. Does Season 2 of Love continue to explore new areas of that city? Yeah, we definitely open it up. There’s a funny storyline in the season where Gus [played by Paul Rust], gets a job on an action movie that’s shooting out of town. I always think it’s weird that there aren’t shows that take place in L.A. that accurately portray L.A. Our show focuses on the East Side and Silver Lake areas. So it’s fun to try to do that, because — as odd as it sounds — people don’t shoot in L.A. Even the shows that shoot in L.A., they’re doubling for Wisconsin or something.
Tumblr media

The first season of Love ended with Gus and Mickey in a very strange place, emotionally. What can you tease about their relationship arc in the second year? We’re trying to show every bump along the way as these people get to know each other. The whole idea of the show is to take a slower, closer examination of every nuance as people try to get into a relationship and make it work. It’s all about baby steps, and part of it is about what you hide from people when you first meet them, and how it slowly comes out.

Andy Dick had a memorable appearance in Season 1. Any special guest stars planned for Season 2? There are a few episodes where David Spade plays the father of the teen actress Gus is tutoring, Aria, who’s played by my daughter, Iris. David’s character is a struggling actor who never did really well, but now his daughter’s doing very well. David’s one of my oldest friends and he’s a great actor, so it was really fun to write a part where he gets to do something really unique.
Australian comic Claudia O’Doherty was the breakout star of Season 1 as Mickey’s roommate Bertie. She embarked on her own love story at the end of last season — will that continue? I met Claudia when we were working on Trainwreck. I saw a bunch of her videos online, and just immediately thought, “Oh, this is one of the great comic minds.” So while we were doing that movie, I said to her, “Hey, we have this new show, and we’d love for you to play this part.” She was even better than we could have imagined. And yes, one of the fun aspects of the second season is exploring her bizarre relationship with Randy, who is played by Mike Mitchell. We actually get to follow multiple relationships in the second season, and it’s funny, because Randy’s this sweet, but unemployed guy who people aren’t sure about whether he’s a good person to date or not.

You’ve found lots of success in this new TV ecosystem, which stands in contrast to your early experience in the industry when shows like Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared were canceled before their time. Are you happier with the industry as it is now? I love not working for network television! [Laughs] I think that’s a nightmare. With these streaming services, you shoot a season, they air it, and then maybe they want another season. You’re not in constant fear that you could get canceled tomorrow. The whole idea that you could be in the middle of your show and someone will just hand you a phone and go, They want you to stop shooting right now,” is just the worst nightmare for a creative person, because you work so hard to build this world. These characters become so real to you, so it’s like making television with a gun to your head the whole time wondering if they’re going to shoot.
I’ve really enjoyed working with Netflix and HBO because they’re both very supportive, and their highest priority is doing something bold and creative. It wasn’t like that at network TV. They were always trying to dumb things down or make things more accessible. I feel like we’re in a very wonderful new world where all of these new networks and streaming services can only survive if the product is great. So you’re encouraged to be original, and that’s what you dream of. We’re having the best time.
The final season of Girls premieres Feb. 12 at 10 p.m. on HBO. Crashing premieres Feb. 19 at 10:30 p.m. on HBO. Season 2 of Love premieres March 10 on Netflix.
