Double standards in the MCU?
I don't know if it's just Tiktok fans but I've been seeing a lot of "double standards in the MCU" posts but I feel like y'all missing some really big points on the issue. Like yeah the MCU does have double standards, in its directors, its actors, it’s scripts, it’s promotion and creation of minority driven movies, and its fan base. But not entirely for the reason y’all are saying.
I see a lot of “Fans love males, hate females” but I never seen anyone actually looking into the differences of their actions. The actions are just looked at on a surface level and dismissed. But we have HOW many movies giving us depth and backstory that needs to be considered for it too.
* Tony: people forgive Tony's actions because they are a result of Abuse, neglect, addiction, and mental illness. Yes Tony was a narcissist and a piece of shit when we first met him. Yes, what consequences he did face are not enough for what we know he actually did/ willingly had a hand in doing. But when confronted with the truth that his complacency and ignorance was hurting innocent people he made efforts to change. No he is not evil for making weapons because he only willingly sold them the the USA government. Yes there needed to be an inquest and consequences for his wilful ignorance in his business partner being able to sell under the table and we didn’t get that.
* Barton: Yes he was a murderer, a serial killer, an assassin and then when convenient for him he buried the truth of Ronin and pretended like it didn't happen. No he should not be allowed to go free. But Barton kept those criminal actions to the crime world. He wasn't hurting innocents, he was going after Mobs, Mafias, murderers and the like. So yeah, his actions are HORRIFIC, but not as bad as they could have been. (And no, I don’t particularly like Barton in the MCU mostly because until his show there was no character development too like)
* Loki: I'm a Loki fan and I do believe that he is so easily forgiven because he's attractive. But the main point I see being raised against him is the New York invasion. You have to remember that he was being mind controlled by Thanos/ his forces during that time. Yes we know Loki had some sort of agency in order to deliberately botch the invasion and make it possible for the hero's to win. Yes Loki should have faced repercussions for that. Yes it is really horrific to think about. No I don't believe a luxury jail cell was repercussions enough. HOWEVER because of the mind control there should have been a diminished capacity allowance made clear.
* Carol: All the posts I’ve seen are claiming she’s arrogant and cocky as if it’s a bad thing. But Danvers is an intergalactic warrior, she was a air woman at a time when she would have been constantly ridiculed. If she wasn’t wearing arrogance and pride as armour she would have never survived. ALSO: She deserves to be! Danvers did boss ass things and should be celebrated BECAUSE of those traits. And YES I do believe there is a double standard in her treatment both by fans (Predominantly male because the females seem to love her) and by the writers but its not in the way the Tiktok fans seem to want to make it.
* Wanda: I’m a comics fan of her character (What little I have seen at least) but I’m not an MCU fan. They introduced us to her character by making her an adult aged VOLUNTEER for Neo-Nazi human experimentation, then she joins a GENOCIDAL ROBOT only switching sides when she realises she will be killed as well. She deliberately goes out of her way to cause harm to a non-combatant civilian population by proxy. And yes, she fights with the good guys and it is heart breaking that Pietro died at the end of that movie, but personal loss and fighting to ensure you own survival does not excuse terrorist actions/ being complacent with terrorist actions.
---> I also see a lot of posts saying that what Wanda did in Westview was the same as what Loki did in Avengers or what Druig did in Eternals. And in some ways I agree, all mind raped people, and forced their will and beliefs on a group. BUT! Loki had a diminished capacity due to the control over his own mind, that does not mean he has no fault, just less. Druig took control to stop violence/ have the human successfully protect each other, and while forcing ones own will on people will always be bad I do believe we can agree that doing so to STOP violence is comparatively less bad.
But Wanda, however accidental, took control for a selfish reason. She WANTED the life she had envisioned, yes it was a mental breakdown and driven from grief and so I personally believe that she should not be held accountable for the initial action given its accidental nature. BUT she continued to maintain and manipulate that control throughout her show. We’re shown several times that she is fully conscious of her actions (The drone becoming a helicopter, rewinding the hazmat suit/ bee keeper suit guy, exiting the hex to warn SWORD away and then entering again, evicting Monica, and so on) which means she simply didn’t WANT to give up that control. SURE, maybe she didn’t know how people where suffering with her in their minds, maybe she didn’t clue on to the fact that she’d locked kids away other than when she wanted them, maybe she didn’t know that stuff. BUT she still did it, she still grew the hex and took others into that position, she didn’t care to know meaning wilful ignorance. So while I’ll take a diminished capacity in consequences I will not accept the idea that she is innocent. (And that makes me mad because I WANT to like her)

It’s cowboy time!
1.What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do? You already saw that I answered this [here] but I’ll say it again because I can. He can sit still for hours at a time, and has spent entire days just sitting and doing nothing.
2.How easy is it for your character to laugh?Not very, but it’s getting easier all the time, and Tvelle (who belongs to @mystery-salad) is especially good at getting chuckles out of him. Genuine, full laughter is incredibly rare to hear, and Tvelle and Canach are the only people to have heard that from him in at least a decade.
3.How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?) Thinking mostly. He takes some time to go through his memories, tries and fails to stick to happier ones, and wears himself out on how numb he feels. He also uses the time before he falls asleep to let himself cry if he needs to, so everything doesn’t build up on him again like it has in the past. It’s sort through things like a responsible and capable adult until you exhaust yourself time for him.
4.How easy is it to earn their trust? Not very. First you have to get close enough to him for him to even start talking to you. Then you have to earn his trust enough for him to feel he can share things with you at all. Then he has to trust you enough to feel you won’t turn on him if you find out about his darker, criminal history. And finally, he has to trust you won’t die or freak out if you see him sober and angry. And every step takes ages, and fucking one up will reset everything.
5.How easy is it to earn their mistrust? He’s equally slow to mistrust outside of very select situations. He’s done some bad shit, and won’t judge a person based on what they’ve done. The exceptions are inquest, and people who attack him from an emotional standpoint after he’s started to let them in and they’ve started to earn his trust.
A. Why are you excited about this character? He’s very big and very full of Love. He also unintentionally shares my issues with feeling and handling emotions along with some of my trauma, which makes him a character I connect to really well, and they way he’s grown over time makes me feel warm because yeah same buddy. He also got me to genuinely enjoy play a thief which started as my least favorite class.
B. What inspired you to create them? answered [here] but it was mostly just gay cowboy memes making me go “hhhh big cowboy”
C. Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story? answered [here] and still no, his story mostly wrote itself over time
D. Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look? Oh shit do I still have pics of classic Rhosill saved somewhere easy access??? Yeah I’ve got one crappy phone pic! It’ll gets the point across!
He started as a hot evil lady! On a more serious and actual character development note, he used to be just over 6 feet tall when I made him as the cowboy he is now, and now he’s nearly 8 and may grow more because I’m indecisive.
E. Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you? He tries to be a pretty chill guy and tries to at least get along with most folks he encounters, and I try for that too, so I think we’d probably get along. Either that or we’d just end up awkwardly sitting next to each other, unsure how to act. It happens.
F. What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)? answered [here]! I feel so much pride and so much love!
G. What trait of theirs bothers you the most? His cowardice. He’s quick to run from situations that go even a little south for him, and has, in the past, been willing to drop people he cares about to save his own ass. He’s also bothered by this trait and working on it.
H. What trait do you admire most? His dedication and determination to actually make up for his past mistakes. He knows he fucked up badly, and he knows he can’t just keep avoiding what he did forever and still feel satisfied with his life. So he’s actively trying to be a better person, and I really admire that about him.
I. Do you prefer to keep them in their canon universe? I’d be willing to try and put him in other universes, but I don’t know who or what he would be if not a sylvari cowboy squatting in Scarlet’s old home in Drytop.
J. Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character? answered [here]! still not as bad as my actual literal sea monster or the ghost wives

[Spoilers] Oh ArenaNet, why are you like this?
Again, please note: SPOILERS for the newest living story patch A Bug in the System.
ArenaNet, you are good at many things.
You are very good at world design. Your maps have always been fun to explore, your races have always been relatively diverse and breakaway from industry standard, with quite a lot of character to them. Your story and lore writing has often been intuitive, interesting and engaging, with a few notable flaws here and there and some pacing problems. You managed to design mounts and encourage free-roam exploration almost perfectly and still continue to manage this with relatively few hiccups.
You are good at many things.
But boss fights are, increasingly, not one of them.
For the love of everything holy, stop putting boss fights in my story instances. You aren’t good enough at creating them or balancing them to warrant forcing me to slog through them.
This isn’t the first time this has happened, ArenaNet. You know it. I know it. We all know it. This isn’t the first time that you’ve put a boss in a story instance and it has been abjectly shit; at best, not engaging and at worst downright frustrating and close to unwinnable for certain classes or sometimes even people with vision problems. And let me tell you, the two bosses in Bug in the System both were boring and beyond that, the final one in particular was the worst experience I’ve had in a long time playing your game.
Without going into too much detail, I’m going to bitch and whine about how much I hated the fight(s) against Commander Lonai because it was shit.
1) I’m a Sword/Pistol + Rifle thief. I have zero ability to deal with multiple targets at once. Therefore, Lonai’s Dying Stars was a bullshit mechanic to try and deal with at the same time as trying to kill Lonai to push her into the next phase of a fight.
2) Dying Stars can and will target you through stealth, consistently and constantly, meaning the stealth mechanic of my class is fucking useless because it fundamentally doesn’t work on three of four enemies in the arena. By the way, because I’m only a fucking thief, I don’t have enough health to be eating constant homing in attacks that will home in on me even when stealthed and hit for 2k each time.
3) Braham’s AI is broken and rarely attacks anything, in addition to not always seeking me out when I go down to revive me. Since I’m not able to avoid going down because half of the attacks can target me even when I’m in stealth and will follow me around the arena until they hit me, this is a huge problem.
4) There’s so much shit going on in all three phases of her fight that it doesn’t even become a test of skill as to how well you fight her, and instead turns into a “I might as well die and tank and spank because I can barely avoid anything anyway”. AoEs that basically take up half of the arena - in a fight against an enemy who has constant AoEs dropping on you and who constantly has three extra enemies summoned that have attacks that home in on you - are bullshit.
5) The Shade mechanic isn’t very well explained at all until she actually summons the first Shade. That doesn’t change the fact her Dying Stars spawn several minutes earlier than the Shade ever will and so you’re dicking around with the volatile star magic whatever bullshit wondering what the fuck you’re meant to be doing with it, only realising much later that it’s only useful for one mechanic.
6) Why do two of these three phases involve mechanics that give you Chill or that otherwise slow you down when this fight is about constant movement all the time. Literally why.
This fight wasn’t fun. It wasn’t engaging. It was fucking horrendous. Lonai had so much HP that it was a grind to try and kill her even as a single-target focused thief. The fact her fight also involves attacks you can’t avoid (even if you stealth) and that her fight is in small arenas with very few places to safely move despite having so much shit to be dodging and that the fight seems to have been deliberately elongated as filler content (we don’t need to be teleported a third time to the Shiverpeaks just because you think it’s cool to show off a Claw of Jormag) made it a horrific experience to play through.
And I hate that. I hate that both boss fights in this living world episode were so bad, because the rest of it was so damn good. The new tribe of Charr, getting involved in Inquest secrets and seeing things backfire, pushing the idea of people in the Inquest not being evil shitheads (which we all knew but it’s nice to see that finally elaborated on) and also to see connections that hearken back to old characters like Kudu of all Asura! The new map being super fun to explore! There’s so much good in this patch that it hurts me how these boss fights were both so catastrophically bad.
STOP DOING THIS, ARENANET. We had this same shit with a boss in PoF who was fucking abysmal to fight if you weren’t a certain class or a certain build with access to quick CC. This has been a plague literally since the start of your game. GW2 is literally infamous for having bad, unfun boss fights. I wouldn’t be sad if you didn’t include tiny bosses every patch in the story, ArenaNet. I’m totally fine with you designing bosses for the open-world content, not instanced ones. I’m fine with boss battles being saved for huge enemies like Joko, or Mordremoth, or other really big bads, so that you have the time and ability to do it right.

pros of dating birthday:
he is.. the most low maintenance partner you’ve ever met………. he’s not demanding at all and you genuinely wouldn’t ever have to really take him on dates or buy him anything or anything like that??? he would be extremely content with you just being in his general vicinity
he’s definitely more of a passive listener than an active listener ie he’s gonna be silent pretty much all the time, But he is actually a very non-judgmental person and you could tell him the weirdest possible shit about yourself and he would be completely unphased
his emotions are either 0 or 100 with no visible inbetween……. if he feels something 100% he’s gonna be practically leaking the emotion out everywhere but if he’s at 0% he’s just. there is no visible emotion whatsoever like he’s just vacant all the time-- EDIT: this isnt a pro or a con why did i put this in here. oh well now you know
ok now how do i say this one without completely ruining his image…………. well…………………….. deep dark secret: he is actually kinda Adorable like both physically and just. mentally. spiritually. (if you can get past the fact that he’s a bad nasty evil boy anyway)

like on a very serious note you have to be someone extremely special otherwise like… not only would he not consider you in that way but romance is just. not a thing on his plate like it’s not something he could ever conceptualize as part of his life
since his emotions at 100% are extremely powerful u gotta b equipped to deal w/ that… he will thrive and open up to you a lot if you’re very good at helping him deal with and process his emotions, but if not It Will Not Work At All
if you need lots of conversation in a relationship or are an impatient person he is probably not the man for u…… listening to him finish sentences is sort of like waiting for the microwave timer to end.. that plus he opens up vvvverrryyy gradually
at present time in canon he is a rogue ex-inquest prime enforcer working under a guy who is a nasty shit who wouldnt let you anywhere near bday since he’s a control freak so that would. probably be something generally standing in the way of getting a date
my overall rating… is that he needs a lot of personal growth before he’d be an appealing person to date.. but without ruining too much, i think that will end up changing in the future

Sort of depressed, and learnt the way of the Revenant so she could perhaps one day speak to her beloved once more. A lot of Spirit’s think this makes her unsuitable for the role of legionnaire, so she shares the duty.
Arcturis Spirtmaw - Male. Half-Legionnaire of Spirit Warband and twin of Eris, A worry-wart and mom-friend. Will always be there for his friends, and will always chop off someone’s head for them, too.
Bess Havocether - Female. Soldier of Havoc Warband. Cannoner and child of two aetherblades. Grew up on the ships, but got herself lost on a mission- saw what the Aethers were doing and was disgusted, so deserted to the Legions. Very untrusted, still.
Seamstress Kombucha - Female. A tailor, making a living selling garments to any cloth-wearers that may want them.
Klovan - Male. Gladium scum. He tries so hard to get into a warband but no one will take the poor bugger.
Artois Earthshaker - Agender. A charr elementalist who became slowly encased in stone. Now looks more like an earth elemental. (Sort of not RP)

Auxantios (Secondary) - Male. Alchemist. Knew killing the elder dragons was a bad idea, is very ‘told you so’ about that fact. Makes poison and stuff. Probably the ash-iest iron legion ever.
Aries The Obstinate - Female (MtF). Transgender charr lady, and guard of Stonemist castle. Dies a lot, but hey, she’s already in hell the mists.
Luluzure Vividwrath - Female (MtF). A pretty charr with no real lore. I didn’t even make her! Probably something simple like a farmer.
Kangra Silverbrew - Female.
Ash
Speldan (Main) - Agender. Part of the Tyrian Expedition Companionship, often ends up as the cleaner. Spends most of her time cleaning the ships and lugging around heavy materials. Has a pet moa named Screech, who is a noisy little bugger, and talks to him a lot.
Congou (Secondary) - Female. An eccentric drake-breeder who has a lot of wanderlust and no self-control. Often ends up who-knows-where in search of new breeding stock.
Tamika Dustshot - Female. Bullied by her peers due to her low, smooth voice, Tamika moved to Divinities Reach where she now is a renowned jazz musician. Very well groomed, pretty rich, and mostly liked. Close to Xyx and Temac, and has shelled out a LOT of her money to keep Temac safe.
Temac Gemstrike - Female. Thief of the notorious Gem warband (Which is more of a thieves guild?) Out to steal the rarest and finest, sell it on, split the profits. Also runs a shop where she sells seedy stuff and also rare, expensive stolen items. She does not know it, but Tamika buys most of her stolen stuff and returns it to keep her out of trouble.
Rauch The Brusque - Intersex, she/her. The loneliest charr. Lost in Magumma after the passing of her warband, Rauch hopes for nothing more than to feel the closeness she once had. She won’t let it be known, though.
Taube Lunargleam - Male. Medic of Lunar warband .Guardian and battleaxe nurse. Will cut your leg off and scorch it until it’s not bleeding if you tell him you got a bruise. Doesn’t really understand that other people feel pain- doesn’t do what he does because he’s evil, he just doesn’t understand. How he got to be medic, no one knows. (Please replace him I don’t want Xyx to have no arms or legs)
Kallisti Smokehunt - Female. Another pretty charr with no real lore. Oops.
Toucha Blacksnow - Male. Soldier of Black warband. Born and raised by charr adventurers in the shiverpeaks, sent to serve the legions in the citadel. It’s ALWAYS too hot for him.
Teague Blackblade - Male. An old, scarred sentinel who suffers from PTSD. He has retired to a farmers life, and tends to ramble.
Worina Blackweld - Female. Legionnaire of Black Warband. An old guardian with a hatred of, and unfortunate knack for, healing. 0 sense of humour.
Galao Blackcandle - Male. Quaestor of Black warband. is usually found cooking for his warband on missions, and seldom fights. When he does, you wouldn’t guess he is not a fighter- specializing in stunning and taking a foe out quickly.
Malaya Blackheart - Female, we guess?? Soldier of Black warband. A silent thief, who tends to follow her legionnaire until there’s a fight to be had.
Breve Blackeye - Male. Disgraced soldier of Black warband. A drunken hobo whose unfortunate past lead to a hatred of asura. Extremely volatile and unpredictable. Drinks to forget the horrors he faced whilst being an inquest test subject.
