how i feel about this character: I LOVE BUBBAAAAAAA!!! i’ve always been very sweet on him and can’t recall a time in my life where i didn’t like him; the “monster with a hidden heart of gold” trope is incredibly dear to me. i think the moment where bubba was officially solidified as a favourite character of mine was the scene from TCM2 where he lies to chop top about killing stretch. like… yes, this man is a cannibal. yes, he’s extremely dangerous and doesn’t abide by the rules of our society, nor does he seem to have a grasp on them - but he’s capable of caring about people. there is a heart in there, and he shows it throughout the second movie when he tries to protect stretch from his family. does he go about it the right way? no, not really, but he’s trying, and is genuinely distraught when forced to choose between his crush and his brothers. that’s something that sets him apart from a lot of other slashers for me. most of them aren’t presented with that kind of moral dilemma, and the few that are given a choice between good and evil (i.e. jamie trying to appeal to michael’s humanity in H5) don’t seem to struggle with that choice as openly and explicitly as bubba did. and you know what? bubba handing stretch over to his family wasn’t an example of someone caving in to their own evil. that was a terrified abuse victim who felt backed into a corner. i’ve been bubba. i understand why he made the choices that he did. you tend to gravitate towards characters you feel that kind of connection with, and that’s exactly what happened with me and him.

all the people I ship romantically with this character: jason voorhees, michael myers, @antlercrack‘s oc bartholomew and - wait for it - freddy fucking krueger, under some circumstances. leatherjase i ship for the same reasons a lot of other people ship it (it’s very cute, it has potential to be healthy due to all their points of empathy with each other, we were given basis for how they’d interact thanks to the FVL comics). mike/bubba and bart/bubba are ships developed through roleplay and roleplay discussions with my best friend (the very person who sent me this ask, hello ruben!), and are pretty specific to ruben’s portrayals of those characters (bubba’s sweet nature defrosting two different ice queens, to make a long story short). fred/bubba is the result of me wanting frason and leatherjase to be able to co-exist with each other in the same universe, and realizing that bubba’s warm, maternal demeanour might do nasty ol’ fred some good - at least in scenarios where freddy has mellowed out and powered down a bit.

my non-romantic otp for this character: bubba/stretch and bubba’s brotherly relationship with chop top! i like to think bubba and stretch were able to work things out post-TCM2 and that they developed a loving relationship, but it’s also not something i could see working out long-term. they may care about each other deeply (at least in my personal canon), but they’re two very different people who want very different things in life. stretch has dreams of becoming a big-time reporter, bubba would be content to spend the rest of his life living peacefully on a farm. there’s also the fact bubba’s… you know, a wanted man, which would directly interfere with stretch’s desired line of work. i like to think they’re still in touch with each other, and even like to believe stretch is babi sawyer’s mother, but i want the best for those characters and just don’t see it happening for them in a romantic context. as for bubba and chop… well, that one’s pretty self-explanatory. chop’s interactions with bubba are fucking adorable and they clearly enjoy each other’s company. chop’s far from perfect, but i’m glad bubba has at least one sibling is in his family who isn’t constantly out to get him.

my unpopular opinion about this character: is bubba a sweet guy? yes. is he naive, easily manipulated and inexperienced with the ways of the world? yes. but i don’t think bubba is this “uwu innocent baby” that a lot of people make him out to be. like guys… he does have a body count. he was exposed to the likes of drayton, chop top and nubbins growing up. i can’t imagine being raised by those guys and not having a chip on your shoulder. bubba can be a real smartass when he wants to be, and he gets cranky just like everyone else does - he’s just gotten good at hiding it so he doesn’t get in trouble.

one thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: please, god, can we have one movie where he finally stands up to his family? just one? it’s been forty-six years since the original came out, i think he’s more than earned it by now!
