“Welcome back, stranger.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dice left his hands. Luck had been on your side. He landed on Boardwalk. “Pay up.” You brought your head up to smirk. Donnie reached for his bills when his hand halted. You didn’t need to know what the properties were worth. He did all the math for you. All you needed to see was the exact moment he realized he didn’t have enough. It was divine. “Aw…” Your voice raised several octaves. “Don’t have enough?” Donnie’s hand shook from where it was hovering. You took another languid sip from your straw. “Wow, must be tough to know you were beat by superior players.” Donnie launched himself over the table. Your arms shot out and your drink left your hand. The last thing you saw was Dean in motion before Donnie’s weight collided with you. The two of you slid all the way across the hardwood floor into a nearby wall. There was then a resounding clatter and you opened your eyes deliriously to watch as monopoly money floated through the air. Kaleb let out a roar and shot out of his chair. You looked down at Donnie to find him watching you with huge eyes. There was an open confusion there as he hadn’t quite put together what happened. You didn’t feel any pain despite being halfway across the room and found yourself bundled in his arms with his face to your chest. Staring at his owlish form, your lips wrinkled until you burst out laughing.

hey hey do yall want my incoherent classpect rambles for the isat cast that i wrote while half asleep at 2 am?? too late!!!
odile is a heart player. 'oh but basil!! shouldnt she be a mind player or something?' no. the core of her character is her identity and lack thereof. shes intelligent and strong willed and has an innate understanding of many things. she cares for others deeply in a way she keeps close to her chest. mage of heart? she understands people but feels separate from them. i think her repeatedly almost clocking siffrin is also something that feels right for a mage of heart. despite sharing a classpect with meulin, shes less of a leijon heart player and more of a dirk one. if that makes sense.
mira is a maid of hope. this is an easy one. she could also be breath, i also see breath, because… change. but her character is so tied to the idea of hope that its gotta be. other peoples hope for her, the pressure she puts on herself because of that, that stuff. shes a maid not just for the housemaiden thing but because maids are 'fixers'. it ties nicely into her quest to save her home and also the fact that shes the only one who can. i also think her lack of belief in herself is a very 'hope' thing. jake is a pretty prime example of a hope player who doesnt hold hope for themself as much as for others.
i!!!! like mind player isabeau!!!! i think odile heart and isa mind is very good!!! im thinking heir of mind isa. heirs are passive which works well with isa being the character who gives the team the most buffs! heir of mind reads 'im going to weaken my enemies and bring up my team' to me. hes a smart guy. he knows hes smart. even when he lets people walk all over his intelligence. hes shockingly bad at handling his own emotions despite being good with other peoples. hes a loyal and trusting guy who often finds himself lost within the gap between who he is and who hes perceived as.
bonnies a range player. thumbs up. anger and fear are their driving forces for a lot of the game. theyre deeply emotional at the best of times. theyre a kid with a lot on their plate. this makes sense. i kind of like rogue of rage for them? their feelings tend to instill emotion within the rest of the party. even the idea of them being hurt drives a protectiveness in the adults. in the same way, they can steal away peoples emotion and mellow them out by being the most emotional person in the room.
also i like the symmetry of two aspect pairs with sif being alone. which leads me to:
sif is a time player. an argument could be made for him being a space player. but they are a time player because of the fucking. time loops they manifested for themself. sifs a knight. hes a knight of time. yes like dave strider but also because they are. every action they take is for their family. the time loop they stick themself in is because he wants to continue to be with them. knights serve. they push away their own thoughts and feelings for the sake of protecting those they feel an obligation towards. get back to the stage, siffrin.
loop is also a knight of time! hope this helps!! but theyre an arguably less stable knight? their influence in the story is mostly from the sidelines. they dont have control over anything anymore. they watch as the same thing happens over and over and over again. i think that seeing that and knowing that you not only caused it but you cant directly do anything to stop it is the worst punishment a knight could possibly receive.

Bloody Days ‘A Rose With Thorns’
𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟓𝟓𝟗: The English court must wage a war for the soul of their nation on two fronts.
The King, Queen Dowager, and Princess Elizabeth have not been seen by their subjects for over a week, driven from the heady epicenter of Hampton Court by highly secreted and contentious negotiations between England and Spain that leave the English court in frightful limbo. As rumours rage across the palace, attempting to rationalize the King’s absence – some suggesting that William and his sister had fallen ill of plague – the King and his council make swift preparations for travel. With only a small delegation of courtiers William and his Lady Mother ride fiercely out to Dover, bound by restraints of privacy and, all the while, facing a tide of betrayal, opposition, and distrust from within and without their inner sanctum …
On the sixth day of the King’s exile, however, the rains that have been driving relentlessly over England come to a sudden halt and, like a bolt from the blue, a merry messenger arrives from Calais. The King, so the courier reports, has received his sister, Queen Mary of Spain, in a great show of pomp, ceremony, and national accord. Mary and her husband, Philip of Spain, have agreed to spend the autumn with the King and his court, ostensibly holding an olive branch out to her half-brother, though tongues wag the Queen has her eyes on much more than merely diffusing tensions – perhaps intending to bestow favour upon England’s Catholic subjects, promoting the case of the Greys, and pressing the suit of her sister-in-law, Joanna of Spain – a task for which she has been intimately primed by the Emperor.
Amid nearly a week of feasting, tourneys, and private political summits held at Dover, the royal family must contend with bitter familial feuds whilst staving off the enmity of Mary’s Spanish retinue, many of which cast overt doubts upon the King’s legitimacy…
Whilst only a small group of courtiers were employed by the Boleyns to travel to Dover, those who remain in London have themselves a game of cat-and-mouse – or, for some, life-and-death – to play. Soon after the merry messenger departs for Calais, another cloudburst arrives at the court’s doorstep, and this time, the news is far from auspicious. The de’ Medici family in Florence announces that a certain Edward Seymour – presumed, for over two decades, dead – has turned up, seeking favour and aid. If England’s troops will not assist in warding off Papal encroachment into Florence, Edward Seymour – the illegitimate son of Henry VIII’s Catholic mistress – will be given the funds and mercenary necessary to muster a coup upon William’s yet fragile kingdom, returning England to the holy Catholic fold.
Immediately dispatched to Florence are James Cecil, Thomas Walsingham, and Julian de Vere to determine incognito if this imposter is truly the ‘lost’ Edward Seymour, or a mere pretender to the throne. At home, however, courtiers must face the mission of a lifetime in snuffing out juicy intel from those who knew the Seymours. And for recusant Catholics in particular, hiding their delight at news that Catholic hope may thrive again in sodden England will be no easy task…
Will the feuds between brothers threaten to cleave England at its core?

Oh yeah I was making a post anyway Prime defenders as fnaf animatronics. I know very little of the fnaf lore and this is entirely on vibes and game mechanics
Vyncent would be Bonnie 1) bc purple and 2) bc I think the mechanics makes sense. (these are all based on the first game only)
Bonnie is usually the first animatronic that comes off the stage and moves relatively fast, especially as you progress. He is the most aggressive and upfront about it. Especially the fact with he usually comes off the stage first to attack, it just makes sense for Vyncent since he seems more aggressive than the others like how Bonnie's mechanics are, especially with how active he is.
William would be Freddy (or Chica but let me explain)
The mechanics for Freddy make the most sense for William if I'm being honest considering Freddy is one of the last animatronics to ever come off of the stage. He is literally not a threat until MAYBE the third night at the soonest. Freddy is barely seen on the camera once he leaves the stage and you're only able to find him based on his glowing eyes. He's mysterious and sneaky and not as upfront and aggressive as Bonnie and Chica. His way of attacking seems a lot more calculated and stepping back. William is not the type to outright attack and would see things more on the logical side.
I also thought Chica as well because like honestly? It's just the vibes. Like Freddy's mechanics would fit him more but Chica's vibes would fit him the most. Like I can't even explain it. If you know you know.
Dakota would be Foxy
Now this one is a little bit more wishy washy with the mechanics wise bc on one hand it fits on the other it is the complete opposite. Like I don't think Foxy's entire mechanic of having to look at him on the cameras to slow his movement fits Dakota. Like that doesn't make sense at all. But I think the fact that Foxy visibly runs down the hallway is very Dakota. The way he attacks is very vibes yknow? He's the quickest animatronic and runs down the hallway. Even with his jumpscare it seems more Dakota core. Since Foxy is the only one that doesn't actually JUMP at you necessarily, at most he pokes his head through the door and screams, he does not actually attack. It seems the most non-lethal out of all the animatronics and it just makes sense for Dakota in my head.
Honorary mention: Ashe would be Golden Freddy

Out of all the heisters, Jacket is physically the strongest since his perk deck is the meta for melee builds
In arm strength and wrist dexterity you're probably be right.
But I'd respectfully argue a few other heister to potentially take the strongest metal in other area's.
Long counter argument below (Skip to the end for shit posting about Jacket being the strongest)
Here's where I put the disclaimer: I know not that much about the meta of Payday. I am a filthy casual who plays for fun rather than maxims efficient win rates. Those who can figure out/use the meta have my deepest respect. That requires a bigger brain that what I have. So I am going to be doing analyzation based off of the in universe implications.
If you disagree that's valid and I can understand wanting to have such headcanons based on the meta.
Now on to my argument that Jacket may not be the strongest in every area:
Wolf, for example is represented by the Armorer perk deck and the Technician skill tree.
His perk deck implies high stamina built for wearing armor than say someone like Houston(Rouge Perk Deck) who would be a bit more slowed down as his perk deck is better suited towards avoidance of armor.
Tower Defensive and Kick starter comes to mind. The final skill of the Engineer branch, implies some level of intense working out to gain the strength(Read in-game points to spend on the skill) to carry. Though kick starter seems to work on the goofy logic that allows Duke to heal via whiskey, there's a high iq argument there as well.
Not sure how much this is really relevant, but in more live action trailers and what nots, Wolf is show a preference for melee, even with out a weapon at time.
Of course with that arguments of Skills and Perks comes the Houston has leg strength.
The Ghost skill tree has skills like Sneaky Bastard and Low Blow implies some level of insane speed. And sixth sense just straight up implies supernatural ability. (But hey half the time it seems like Bain has a level of Omnipresence to him, so I wouldn't be surprised)
Killer Instinct from the Rouge deck perk deck allows for a better chance for any weapon to have amour piercing damage. Of course this is probably small amounts of arm strength in comparisons to melee favoring Jacket, but I thought it was worth noting.
Pretty sure owning a shooting range as basically kid also means something for strength (Kick back of riffles and all) but you could also counter this with an argument of it just being good balance rather than strength. This would also arguably line up with his stealth style better.
Hoxton's skill tree Fugitive is a DAMN good argument but outside of that his lore background is just damning him.
Building muscles in prison is hard as shit. Prison food is the opposite of nutritious from my understanding. The Crook perk deck's dodge is pretty great as well for the leg race between him and Hoxton. But there's more focus on general muscles due to the secondary focus on armor.
Of course if we're excluding skill trees then of course, these arguments have a little less weight I suppose. And it would make sense to exclude skill trees. I'd understand the argument there. As the skill trees while based on og 4 plus Houston(og 5? LMAO)
However Wolf would still have more stamina when he took of his vests and is shown to have a preference for physical fighting
I'd also like to put up for consideration Dragan.
His constant work ethic towards working out would imply general all rounder strength. However a master of one is better than a master of none. So to support this argument I point to the Infiltrator perk deck. The deck build upon close combat
Of course this could be argued that he has to keep up the strength due to his smoking habits murdering his lungs. Old man is 45 after all.
Sokol is an ex-athlete in his prime.
I've seen very few Hokey matches but the ones with incidents tend to be brutal. And it seems like Sokol here had a habit of starting them as well. His over all thicker build implies core strength and balance. You would need such a thing to knock people on the ice with out tipping over yourself (well that a momentum). The Grinder perk deck seems to be focused on healing more than anything, showing an ability to take a hit. But this isn't about a fight, this is just about strength.
Either way I had to include Jacket's Rival/Enemy/Competitive/Negative relation in this. Just for kicks ;)
honorable mentions:
Jiro who is a speedy boy with some melee, but unless he's working out like Dragan his 50+ year old body isn't going to be winning the race with so much young blood.
Scarface: His strength is a lie and all drugs
Duke: He is an alcoholic in denial
However with all that said:
It's still really funny to think of skinny Jacket just taking someone more well built like Sokol and just SLAMMING him into the ground.
Ghost Wolves didn't train little bitches and he didn't slack off of training in Miami.
He is the king of arm wrestling and he and Bonnie quickly made a scheme to challenge the newer heisters to arm wrestling with money bet on the line.
Dallas stopped this after to many complaints of being scammed, but the closest to win was Jimmy who was coked up and using his hysteria strength.

39.Favorite season?
hmmm spring/fall i prefer transitional seasons
50. Talk about something youre passionate about.
god i could go all day talking about costume design its one of the most underrated aspects of film and tv especially contemporary costume design ppl always focus on period pieces and dont understand how difficult it is to create outfits for characters that will be contemporary but not dated. every aspect goes into what the clothing says about their personality, financial status, mental state everything from hair to shoes says so much and clothing in media is crucial to adding life to a film. a prime example is the original craft and the craft:legacy. even in their uniforms u can see their personal style which makes their changes as the film goes on more obvious. bonnies self conscious rochelle is a prep sarah is the normie everyman and nancy is the outcast goth and as the movie goes on their fashion evolves to show their newfound confidence and power which is so important because at its core the craft is a kind of a character study as schlocky and 90s as it is. the decade it came out in plays into it as well everyone just assumes all the girls were goth when in actually since it was the 90s everyone dressed kind of grunge or had grunge influences esp since they were in san franciaco. the craft legacy fails because the girls arent trendy in a way that srill has them seem like individual characters they all dress as if theyre f21 mannequins the costume designer TRIES to make a memorable piece with one girls leopard print coat mirroring nancys now iconic PVC duster but while nancys coat was clearly a form of armor for her as apart of her “dont touch me” image the other girls felt like a plae imitation it felt like an “ooo look at my cool coat” moment they tried to do something by giving the girls color coded outfits but it falls disgustingly flat
57. Favorite labels about you?

If you could rank tvd male characters (not by looks ofc) but by character wise & development from best to worst what would it look like? & if you’ve already answered this sorry
I mean, development is difficult because with the exception of Stefan, it’s mostly wasted potential. Tyler had pretty good development in season 2 and 2x05 encapsulated this because he did something that Damon never did --- he snaps at Jeremy and then apologizes and says he’s working on being better and not such a dick all the time and throughout season 2 we see that in effect, we see a different side to Tyler, a vulnerable side, someone who asks for help and admits he’s scared and leans on someone (Caroline) but at the same time, his development with the werewolves was done horribly because they don’t give him enough conflict --- to be fair, they don’t give Bonnie, Caroline and Elena enough conflict around it either --- but if he’s being divided between his friends and his new supposed family, if Damon kills his uncle and his friends cover it up or help them and then his new werewolf family is torturing his friends, like the crisis of loyalty and identity crisis Tyler should’ve gone through should’ve been massive and it wasn’t. Plus after season 2, it’s like the show doesn’t know what to do with him emotionally anymore. Plot-wise him being sired to Klaus and then trying to start a hybrid army against him and then wanting revenge for his mother’s death is fine but I don’t really see how Tyler emotionally develops throughout all of that so the potential is wasted.
Matt. Matt had so much potential, I talk about it all the time:
With each and every episode I’ve been like, how has Matt not set fire to Mystic Falls yet? How has Bonnie not snapped on her friends and just released all of her magic on them yet? Like the most they make Matt do is get grumpy at Stefan for a minute and then refuse to let Elena feed him her blood? And Bonnie shows Damon what she went through in the nineties with Kai and she’s done venting? Are you fucking serious? People keep saying that Matt is a useless character but I see the potential in him because he and Bonnie would make the perfect opposition to the ‘core’ group and imagine how deranged they’d be? Like a psychological break would happen between them and they’d give absolutely zero fucks. And then we could deal with the ‘core’ group being so surprised that the two people they step on the most are ‘fighting back’ in a sense and are refusing to be ignored.
Him taking out his anger on Tyler didn’t bother me, it’s that the scale wasn’t big enough. He said a few words and he didn’t let Elena heal him like that’s a big deal. It’s not. It’s inconsequential. I don’t buy that he’s resentful because he doesn’t act resentful, he acts sullen; he shouldn’t be friends with any of them. His rage should destroy the entire town. He’s been bitten how many times, he’s been hit by a car, he’s been stabbed, he’s been used as bait, he’s been buried alive, he’s been driven off a bridge, like no, a few words here and there about how vampires suck isn’t going to cut it. It shouldn’t be respectful or respectable or small or at the right times, he should hate everyone with a passion, it should be to the point of insanity, like he should be obsessed with either destroying them all or getting the hell out of town but to make it more interesting it should be destroying them all; the line between enemy/friends should be gone and Bonnie should join him with it.
My point is that Matt’s anger should be directed at everyone, including people who don’t necessarily deserve it at the time. He should have a prejudicial hatred against all things supernatural, like it should be a fury that has a rational base and spirals out into irrationality because he’s at his wit’s end and he has a psychological break, it shouldn’t be logical and strategic, it shouldn’t just be about Damon and Stefan, that’s what I mean by how in my opinion it shouldn’t be “respectful resentment” everyone should be a threat or a target in his eyes and same with Bonnie after everything they’ve been through. They should have serious PTSD.
A psychological break doesn’t necessarily mean that Matt wouldn’t be effective at what he’s doing, it just means that he wouldn’t follow certain guidelines and he wouldn’t be confined. I like the idea of psychological breaks, I like the idea of snapping because the only characters who have been allowed to do that are Damon and Elena and I guess Stefan. Caroline turning off her humanity wasn’t a “snap” in my opinion. A snap has a lot of potential to be messy and I like it when characters get messy, I like it when they go off the deep-end because there’s so much you can do with that. I like the idea of Matt and Bonnie just having a disconnect and going beyond logic and reason and playing dirty because neither of them have done that before, it’s an unexpected route for both of them to take but one that still keeps in line with their characters after everything they’ve been through. I’m not interested in the “by-the-book” approach because we had that with Bonnie’s dad and we had that with Connor and we had that with the Council, it’s more of the same thing and the point is that the show should go in a different direction and to see the psychological and emotional scars that being around the supernatural has done to both Matt and Bonnie would be AMAZING and heartbreaking and it’d be intense for the other characters to see just how far they’ve pushed them.
in my opinion, Bonnie and Matt should be the “big bads” that everyone has to face but instead of it being an external villain, it’s an enemy they/the town created. That, in my opinion, would make sense for both characters and would be such an interesting storyline for the show to take on. Not these one minute/two minute/one episode gripes that go absolutely nowhere or get shut down quickly.
I mean they had ample opportunity to really push that forward but it’s like they’re too scared to do anything that has actual consequences. For me, Matt’s descent should’ve happen in season 5. He was in a house full of vampires and none of them heard Nadia take him and none of them found him buried alive? Instead Caroline took Klaus’ word for it (Klaus above all people) and everyone else was preoccupied with other things and were all at the Salvatore mansion when he finally got back? Like THAT should’ve been the beginning of the end. I have so many problems with that episode.
How would you write the team up of the psychological break with Bonnie and Matt against the main group?
I always said that one day Matt would just snap, like some bullshit will happen to him again and he’ll just set Enzo on fire on something and Bonnie would walk in on him and he would just rant about how he’s sick of being the guy who gets run over and stabbed and buried alive and shot and be like dude, we were FINE until the Salvatores showed up and Damon killed Vicki and wanted to get into the tomb so Grams died and Bonnie being like Matt, c’mon, bad things would’ve happened anyway, Elena was the doppelganger Klaus would’ve  — and then he just scream and say this is what I’m talking about the constant defending, don’t you get sick of it Bonnie, think of everything that happened to you, like aren’t you just MAD? And then Bonnie leaves and gets taken advantage of again or lied to again or has to put her life in danger again with great emotional and/or physical cost but that’s a secondary thing to the core group (again) so she just goes to Matt like yeah you’re right.
So since it’s all-in for him, does Matt die or win? Knowing you, even if he dies, there’ll be far reaching consequences of this arc, right?
I think what I would do is Stefan and Damon argue about how to handle it with Stefan wanting to lock him up and Damon wanting to kill him. If he did die then I think the consequence of that would be the Salvatores leaving MF, like either Bonnie has been pulled back already and she’s like you guys drove him to this then murdered him, either they go or I do and Elena and Caroline choose Bonnie or after Matt dying they don’t trust the Salvatores to not kill Bonnie so Elena “banishes” them before it becomes a everyone tries to kill Damon and Stefan gets involved and puts his life in danger because of it
I meant to say if he didn’t die, then I’d Azula him where he just is so mentally deteriorated that they lock him up and Bonnie goes to the group and is like, yo this is what you do to people eh?
But we never go there.
Jeremy --- Jeremy doesn’t even have an emotional arc, really. I mean we’re meant to believe he gets to this state of acceptance of becoming a hunter, which was a storyline that came out of nowhere.
Enzo never should’ve been introduced.
Klaus I have issues with because homeboy does not act like a 1000 year old vampire and his goals are SO small-scale, it’s EMBARRASSING:
I know you say that Klaus’ daddy problems were very unoriginal and that another storyline could have explored which I do agree with. But what storylines do you think they should have done instead?
To be honest with you, I’m not sure I would’ve given Klaus anything, I’d just lean into him being a megalomaniac and give him greater ambitions, like him being like you know, I’ve been alive for 1000 years, I’ve lived under kings and prime ministers and presidents and I legit could just do a better job than anyone, so first he wants to rule vampires, then the supernatural world in general and then the world at large. I’m not saying it’s original but I would prefer that over my dad was mean to me and my family hates me even though I stake them all the time so let’s make hybrids so I can rule one town in one country. OK…
Damon is Damon.

friendship aesthetic + a message to byul selfpara; two hags on a rooftop
summary: two old souls lost by the whims of an aging career, embittered by an industry with so many flaws. out of an unexpected conversation by chance, blooms a beautiful friendship. now he’s her person, and she’s his person - no expectations, romances or games - just bonnie and clyde raising hell. he sends her a message after their talk, grateful for the cathartic talks left with no judgements and a newfound friendship. @fmdbyul warnings: no warnings? not meant to be fancy prose, more so akin to jd salinger’s style of lax writing  wc: 501
twelve years and we’re completely embittered in the industry that has hoisted us up like heralded flags, swung around battered by the wind. there’s tears, holes that are ripping at the seams, and we’re only expected to sit in silence as everything gets worse. anything we feel or say is rendered invalid by the power hungry arms of the higher ups, and we just sit complacent, like mere lap dogs up for show, proudly paraded along the streets.
it’s okay though, because a solo escapade of commiseration transfigured into a party of two miserable souls. it’s true, misery does love company because no lone soul actually desires to suffer alone - you asked if death would be good to people like us. i answered no, because like everything else supernatural in the world - these things have no bias just like humanity at its core has no bias to the unwarranted pains of agony and suffering.
if there’s one thing i realized through the night, it’s that there’s an eerie edge of a cathartic purge that comes from speaking to a stranger. i don’t know you, you don’t know me, yet the only thing that strung us together is the mutual understanding of melancholy that clings high above the forlorn moon underneath the clouds of smoke.
maybe what our agony pits us to is a culmination of privilege but when we’ve been mummified into place, brushes painting on the actions we take, and the movements we make, who’s to say that we don’t start losing pieces of ourselves? primed to play a role, and have things forced out of your grasp the minute you don’t abide - it subjects us to a life of conditioning. but the minute we speak out, our words are trampled on and misconstrued while the angry tyrants behind the computer screen pry out every insecurity and every detail scrutinizing our actions. it’s kind of funny how we signed on for a life like this, huh?
i don’t know how these words will level itself to alleviate any of the troubles, but like with all things tonight - nothing holds expectations or the fancy imagery of what it’s supposed to be. they’re just a raw string of words, an ode of gratitude. so, thanks.
for the first time, i lended my ears to a stranger and in return i got the same. no judgements, no limits, and no ploys. a land of secrets, and nothing exposed - everything hidden inside the tall grass. at least, that’s what you’ll get from me - you’re one of my people now, so don’t forget that next time you burrow yourself on a rooftop dousing your woes in soju. you have a friend, a confidant and each time you message me, you’ll get that same stranger you met tonight - one that holds no reservations or judgements.
remember, we’re both going on 50. two hags bound to fuck things up at one point or another, so why not commemorate misery with company? a party to rage havoc.

Blu-ray Review: The Craft
Tumblr media
The Craft is perhaps the last great horror movie before Scream changed the genre landscape mere months later. (Interestingly, the films share two main cast members.) Had it been produced after 1996, a rewrite no doubt would have been forced on The Craft to make it more hip and self-aware. While that approach worked masterfully for Scream, the same cannot be said about the vast majority of its dated imitators.
The Craft, on the other hand, has aged like a fine wine; it continues to resonate with many, particularly teen girls. Beyond its flashy genre exterior, the core of the film concerns outsiders, addressing such topical issues as self harm, racism, body dysmorphia, sexual abuse, and slut shaming. While the quality of representation of these issues could be debated, the fact that they’re all touched upon without ever coming off as sanctimonious is commendable in and of itself.
Tumblr media
Director Andrew Fleming (Nancy Drew, Bad Dreams) immediately sets the tone with a brief spell casting sequence, immersing the viewer in occult imagery from the first frame. Troubled teen Sarah Bailey (Robin Tunney, The Mentalist) is then introduced, as her family moves from San Francisco to Los Angeles - which, aside from a couple of scenes showing the seedy inner city, is depicted as an idyllic suburb.
Sarah attends a parochial high school, where she befriends a group of girls - Nancy (Fairuza Balk, American History X), Bonnie (Neve Campbell, Scream), and Rochelle (Rachel True, Half Baked) - who are rumored to be witches. Sarah gravitates toward the social outcasts, and they accept her not because they are affable, but because they have an ulterior motive: they need a fourth witch to complete their circle, giving them the power to cast spells. Lucky for them - or is it? - Sarah is a natural witch.
Tumblr media
The Craft is unjustly rated R. As Fleming explains in the special features, the MPAA slapped the tame film with the rating for the sole reason that it involved teens practicing witchcraft. The script, written by Fleming and Peter Filardi (Flatliners), may be a tad heavy-handed at times, but the characters feel genuine. So too does the grounded approach to witchcraft, depicted with accurate Wiccan spells and rituals. As the girls draw power from the natural elements, Fleming, working with his frequent cinematographer, Alexander Gruszynski (Tremors), allows wind, rain, foliage, and fire to infiltrate the frame.
The four young women have fantastic chemistry. Although Tunney initially auditioned for Bonnie, the filmmakers smartly persuaded her to tackle the lead role. (She had to wear a wig, as she had shaved her head for Empire Records.) She embraces the innocence of the new kid, but the nuanced character avoids succumbing to the final girl tropes. Balk stumbles slightly with some of more serious moments, but she positively nails the unhinged, power-hungry witch. Adding to the realism, she is a practicing Wiccan.
Tumblr media
The supporting cast is also wonderful. Skeet Ulrich (Scream) co-stars as Sarah's love interest, with Breckin Meyer (Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare) as his lackey. Christine Taylor (Zoolander) effectively plays against type as a racist who bullies Rochelle for the color of her skin. Cliff De Young (Flight of the Navigator) serves as Sarah's well-meaning father, while Helen Shaver (The Amityville Horror) plays Nancy's alcoholic mother. Tony Genaro (Tremors) pops up as the bus driver in the film's most iconic moment.
Soundtracks are important for teen movies, and The Craft has a great one that plants it firmly in the mid-'90s, including Love Spit Love covering The Smiths (which would later become the Charmed theme), Letters to Cleo covering the Cars, and Our Lady Peace covering The Beatles, plus Jewel, Sponge, Portishead, Juliana Hatfield, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, among others. It supplements a score by Graeme Revell (The Crow, Freddy vs. Jason), who captures the film's spirit - no pun intended.
Tumblr media
The Craft has received a Collector's Edition Blu-ray release from Scream Factory. The presentation appears to be the same high-definition master used on the previous Blu-ray - which looks great, but don't expect an upgrade in picture quality. Joel Robinson's new cover art - depicting hands and props rather than the stars - was likely the result of not having the actors' likeness rights, but the restriction yielded a striking design. The theatrical poster is on the reverse side.
The cast members unfortunately either declined or were unable to participate in the new extras, but the crew members thankfully pick up the slack with great interviews. In his 15-minute conversation, Fleming explains how he was initially only going to rewrite the script, interested in making more comedy movies instead, but ended up connecting with the material and accepted the offer to direct. He also discusses the respectful, pagan approach to witchcraft, including working with a witch on set as a technical consultant.
Tumblr media
Producer Doug Wick's interview serves as a good supplement to Fleming’s, offering an alternative perspective on several of the same topics. Filardi talks about his inspiration, including how each of the main characters was based on one of the elements, as well as his original version of the script befor Fleming's rewrite (which, he admits, was an improvement). Makeup effects supervisor Tony Gardner (Cult of Chucky, Hocus Pocus) touches on virtually every practical effect in the movie (including the deleted "elder witch" old age makeup, which is seemingly lost), in addition to revealing that it's one of Katy Perry's favorite movies.
Tunney and True gave new interviews back in 2000 for Conjuring The Craft, a fairly in-depth, 25-minute featurette that is ported over. Other archival extras include an informative audio commentary by Fleming, a 6-minute making-of piece featuring all four girls, three deleted scenes with optional commentary by Fleming, and the trailer.
Tumblr media
Aside from some dated styles (and many of those are making a comeback) and adept-for-the-time visual effects, The Craft holds up astonishingly well. In fact, with its topics more openly discussed in today's post-#MeToo world, the film is perhaps even more relevant and relatable than ever. Prime for the female-directed reboot that's currently in development, The Craft is a progressive, empowering film in which the genre elements come second to character struggles.
The Craft will be released on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray on March 12 via Scream Factory.

so i plan on writing a verse for billy where he’s in his prime.
idc what anyone says, Billy’s prime is when he was 21 just before his death, not when he was 18. He was the Wild West’s core and it ended when he died besides Bonnie & Clyde who admired him.
tl;dr, Prime Billy is gonna be much faster than 18 yr old Billy
also, fc is Hermes

Word Prompts: Montgomery Scott + Limerence
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anonymous said: Could I request #17 Limerence with Montgomery Scott?
Limerence: “The state of being infatuated with another person.”
ALL REQUESTS ARE OPEN! - | Support me on Ko-Fi |
Space was screaming and the stars burning. You were fearing that all these sights would be your last, that you’d feel a phaser rifle resting against your spine and that would be the end.
Enterprise was almost like the Titanic. Revered as the unsinkable (star)ship. But as the Titanic would come to her end in unforgiving waters and torn by a defiant iceberg, so the Enterprise was faced with a never-ending armada of hostile aliens. Knowing that Captain Kirk and his senior officers had gotten out of tougher scrapes than this one, you felt a slight burden ease from your shoulders as you rushed towards the escape pods. Perhaps deserting the ship wasn’t the bravest idea, but you’d rather live out the rest of your life as a civilian on a distant colony than having no life at all.
Rounding the corner, you saw a limp, red-clad arm lying behind a bulkhead. The weapons-fire was deafening, and sounded as if it was coming from somewhere close by, but the arrow of your moral compass swung towards at least checking the officer’s pulse. As you knelt down, fingers probing his wrist for a pulse, you turned to see the man’s face. Even unconscious, you knew his features by heart. The sight of his closed eyes and his slightly parted mouth made you want to wail like those mourners of ancient times, become the epitome of sorrow’s uncontrollable chaos. But as you pressed your fingers to his neck, you felt a pulse thrumming underneath them.
You almost laughed, amid all that destruction.
Montgomery Scott, still fighting.
Slinging one of his arms across your neck, you heaved Scotty to his feet and began to drag him with you to the escape pods. Suddenly, the uncertain future seemed less grim. Yes, he’d be proclaimed “missing, presumed dead”. Yes, his family and friends would grieve over an empty grave, secretly hoping that he was still out there, somewhere. And he would be. You’d begin a new life, with your friend by your side. Perhaps that friendship would blossom into something more, like you had always wanted.
Opening the hatch to the escape pod, you pulled Scotty inside. Fingers flying over the controls, you closed the hatch, released the docking clamps, and fired up the engines. As the pod drifted away, you saw the Enterprise in what could have been her final moments. Perhaps you were seeing the ship through Scotty’s eyes, but at that moment you could have sworn that there were tears swimming across your line of vision, turning the fires ravaging Enterprise into blurry patches of ethereal light. You pressed your fingers against the glass of the window, closing your eyes in silent vigil to your ship, your crew, your friends. Hoping that somehow, they’d survive. And then you turned away and set a course for the nearest M-Class planet.
Putting the escape pod on autopilot, you appraised the meager contents packed inside. There were two weeks’ worth of rations (if eaten minimally), oxygen supply for not much longer than that, a medkit, and basic tools for repairing minor damage to the pod. All in all, not very much. But it was enough. You were practically on top of Scotty, with so little space inside, yet this was the best you had felt in weeks. A blush rose to your cheeks as you realized how close you were, your left knee against his right, his shoulder digging into your side. You reached over him to take the medkit, and extracted a hypospray from it. Pressing it against Scotty’s neck, you watched his face for any signs that the hypo was working. Moments later, his eyes fluttered open, and he tried to sit up. You restrained him, placing a hand on his chest.
“Sit still. You’ve just had a nasty blow to the head.”
“Ensign (L/N)?”
“Don’t move. I’ll get you a ration pack.”
You moved to the side, but Scotty pulled on your sleeve. When you turned to him, his eyes were wide.
“Where are we? What happened to Enterprise?” Scotty asked, and you let out a heavy sigh.
“They’ve been overwhelmed,” you answered. “I doubt there’s much hope left.”
“Then why are we just sitting here?” Scotty questioned, trying to stand up, but bumping his head on the pod’s low ceiling. “We’ve got to help them!” You caught one of Scotty’s wildly waving hands in your own, and he paused in his tirade. “(Y/N), I’m asking you again. Where are we?”
You dreaded having to reply. One word, and he’d despise you for eternity for taking him away from his beloved ship. But this entire escape had been a gamble, a risk that you thought was worth taking. This would have to be too. Still nervous, you mumbled your answer into your lap.
“What was that?” Scotty asked, a tremor making his way into his voice.
“We’re in an escape pod, dammit!” you yelled, the volume of your shout shuddering the entire craft. “The ship was doomed, I found you lying unconscious in a corner, and I took you with me.” The first few words of your truth broke the dam that was barring all your self-conscious thoughts, and everything came rushing out. “Listen, Scotty, I care about you. You know I do. Ever since that night on Agarus Prime, when we went with the other engineers to that nightclub, and you kissed me, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Even after you told me that you were completely drunk, to forget the whole thing, I couldn’t. And that’s why I brought you here. Because I couldn’t stand the thought of leaving you behind, and facing a world without you in it.”
Scotty stiffened, becoming aware as you had of the cramped space of the escape pod. But something in his features was hard and cold as he processed what you told him. He let go of your hand.
“(Y/N), do you know what Starfleet would do to you if Enterprise comes out of this alive?” Scotty asked. After a moment, you realized that his question wasn’t rhetorical, and you answered him with a halting nod. “Good. Because this is the textbook definition of desertion, and in my textbook, desertion is akin to cowardice. And cowards don’t even get the leftovers of the haggis for dinner.”
“Starfleet won’t find us,” you replied, and Scotty frowned at your use of the plural. “I’ve set a course for the nearest M-Class planet. Hopefully, it’s inhabited. We’ll make a new life there, and if Starfleet ever comes, I’ll resign my commission. If worst comes to worst, I’ll make a formal request for asylum.”
Clutching the console in front of him, the knuckles on Scotty’s hands were pale white. He was looking out the window, at the floor, in the medkit – looking anywhere except at you.
“You don’t understand, do you, Ensign? If there’s even the slightest chance that the bonny ship Enterprise can make it through in one piece, I don’t want to live my life regretting that I left her behind. You know, Chekov once told a bunch of junior officers that the reason I hadn’t been with anyone for so long was because I was already in a committed relationship with Enterprise’s warp core. It was a low blow, but I can’t help thinking he was right. We Starfleet officers often end up married to our job, and I’m completely tied to my duties on Enterprise. (Y/N), you’re very sweet, but you don’t deserve a man who couldn’t give you the love and attention that you need. I couldn’t do that to you.”
His hands pried themselves from the console, and he replaced your hand in between them, hoping that a gentler approach would mollify you.
“If you do care for me, (Y/N), turn this pod around,” Scotty pleaded. “I promise you that I won’t tell the Captain that you deserted the ship. I’ll come up with a good story on the return trip.”
You finally tore your gaze from the floor, and looked at him.
“What happens if we come back to dust and debris?” you asked, knowing that you couldn’t refuse. You wouldn’t refuse. Scotty hesitated before placing a hand under your chin, tenderly lifting your lips to meet his own. His kiss was soft, fragile, nothing like the intensity of the drunken one you had shared back at that nightclub on Agarus Prime, and yet you preferred it infinitely. The two of you parted, Scotty’s hand resting at the side of your neck.
“If we come back, and Enterprise isn’t there, then I guess I’d have to find something else to be tied down to,” Scotty replied.
You couldn’t hold back your smile as you entered the coordinates that would take you back to Enterprise. Whether she’d be dead or alive, debris or still intact, you had a feeling that things would change for the better.

Stuck Inside Media Diary Week 1
Tumblr media
Don’t know how there isn’t a gold-rush like movement for quarantining blogs. None that I’ve seen, anyways. Perhaps there is and I’m just fantastically out of touch, like a prospector who’s just far enough outside of camp in already plundered-dry land, mistaking pyrite(?) for the actual thing. Who cares.
Last Sunday (3/22) I attempted to clean up the DVR- about once a week to just look down the barrel of TCM’s schedule and set to record whatever I find that I want to watch later. Of course, like any rational human, I just record them and never watch them, but find reasons to keep ‘em around by any means necessary. Like when the DVR Almost Full alert starts rearing its head, something someone else has recorded is first to go and not the original Taking Of Pelham One Two Three that was recorded in February of 2019.
Below is going to be an almost comprehensive breakdown of everything I watched starting on March 22.
Sunday, March 22
Tumblr media
Badlands, Malick 1973
Had never seen it-a reoccurring theme and benchmark for what movies I will watch throughout the week and the foreseeable future. Greatness. Breeziest Malick? The last thirty or so minutes reminded me of the last thirty minutes of Raising Arizona. Really, I hadn’t realized that this was kind of the modern influence for the modern Bonnie & Clyde (big note: have not seen Bonnie And Clyde so everything I type after this will eventually have to be edited, because that was actually the influence for those movies, you idiot ((me, I’m the idiot)). Movies I would program with them: Raising Arizona, True Romance (I knew the choice of Gassenhauer was ripped from something, but didn’t realize it was Badlands), Upstream Color (it seems irresponsible to not throw in a Shane Carruth movie into something centered around a Terrence Malick movie) Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. And if you wanted to, sure, Natural Born Killers and Moonrise Kingdom, I just don’t love those movies that much (though Moonrise is waaaaaay more digestible than NBK)
Tumblr media
Band Of Brothers (I started re-watching the week before, averaging an episode a night, just about)
“The Last Patrol” (the Colin Hanks episode-he’s got a little too much of  a “I’m Troy McClure” presence, but is far and away the better execution of this type of episode than “Carentan” was, though I guess it’s not a 1::1 comparison)
“Why We Fight” (the Holocaust/Ron Livingston episode-admittedly, I’m so in the bag for Ron Livingston, I just wanna be friends with him. The liberation of the work camp is not something you look forward to and I always forget how it is and isn’t a huge part of the episode. It’s used as the driving force behind the title of the episode and seeing that realization hit the men in Easy Company is purposely uncomfortable. One of several installments where you kind of want to skip it, because of how heavy it is. This is also the episode where you see bony Tom Hardy’s little butt)
“Points” (the baseball game at the end episode-instant waterworks once you see the baseball field, for me at least. Everything happens so quickly in this episode while at the same time feeling almost like an opus. I love the conversation between Webster and Liebgott in the back of the truck where they’re talking about themselves and they realize they’d probably hate each other if they met outside of the military. Almost a perfect encapsulation of male friendships, that and when Nix asks Winters to come home with him in New Jersey)
Monday, March 23
Tumblr media
Moonstruck, Jewison 1987
To my knowledge, there is no call for a Frasier movie, but should there be one, I’d simply laugh and say that this is what that is. I also just realized that Cher beat out Holly Hunter for Best Actress that year. Kinda dumb and I say that as an enjoyer of Cher in the movie Moonstruck.
[I was probably watching an episode or two of Better Call Saul as well. I think I was rounding out season 1 at this point-admittedly I wasn’t keeping very good track of this. Sue me.]
Tuesday, March 24
Tumblr media
The Apartment, Wilder 1960
Really I watched the first hour before going to bed the night before, but who cares. Weird movie! And thats after the very playful suicide jokes that’re thrown around that made me feel like a prude. What do you want me to say here, that I didn’t like The Apartment? Get outta here!
Wednesday, March 25
Tumblr media
Shampoo, Ashby 1975
It was here that I started noticing a theme with the movies I was watching. Unplanned. I don’t know where the genre of emotionally-frustrated-and-aloof-hot-guy starts, probably much earlier than Shampoo, but Warren Beatty is quite the model example.
[I think I finished season 1 of Better Call Saul this night]
Thursday, March 26
Tumblr media
Defending Your Life, Brooks 1991 [As of now this is available on HBO Now/GO]
This was the first movie not on the DVR. Coincidentally it was also the one liked best this week. Last summer I watched Lost In America for the first time and it dawned on me how many dudes try to make Albert Brooks movies and just come up short so often. What a movie for Rip Torn and good God, I was not adequately prepared for how big of a crush I developed on Meryl Streep because of this thing (though slightly manic-pixie-dream-girl-ish). Fun back-to-back with Shampoo.
[I think I started season 2 of Better Call Saul this night]
Tumblr media
Columbo “Prescription: Murder” (made-for-TV-Movie Pilot--I can’t remember what made me look it up, but I just really wanted to watch Columbo and by the grace of God, they’re all up on Amazon Prime. I’ve seen maybe a handful of episodes in my life and I guess decided, “eh, maybe I should be a Columbo-guy, it fits.” This was when Columbo was more of a concept, I guess, because he’s Falk is playing slightly against type, but like what, you want me to be mad about an episode of Columbo?)
Friday, March 27
Tumblr media
Landline, Robespierre 2017 [As of now this is available on Amazon Prime]
I like basically everyone associated with this movie and it’s just kinda nice. My tolerance for modern day norm/mumble-core varies, though the inclusion of a Duplass brother is a pro rather than a con. Jenny Slate is very underrated, re: physical comedy. I guess my biggest gripe is how do you get Edie Falco and use her sparingly? And why come yer trying to fit in more than what the movie wants to handle? It’s kinda lazy Squid And The Whale, but whatever.
Saturday, March 28
Tumblr media
Better Call Saul
“Bali Ha’i”, “Inflatable”, “Fifi”, “Nailed”, “Klick”, “Mabel”, “Witness”
This is the back half of Season 2 and the first two of Season 3 and I forgot how stupid easy it is to just binge through a show. Haven’t done it and a real long time, probably since college I want to say. It’s just so good. Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald have talked for a while about how BCS sometimes lends itself better to a binge watch model, which I can be a living testimony to now. Saturday started a real problem for me, in terms of just burning through episodes at an unsettling pace. Don’t sleep on BCS like I did, folks.
Tumblr media
A Serious Man, Coen Brothers 2009 [As of now this is available on Netflix]
Did you realize that Joel and Ethan were cranking out a movie a year for four years in a row? And that this was after Burn After Reading and before True Grit. I think, can’t remember for sure, that a common criticism of the Coens is how cold they tend to be, which I think is a conveniently lazy take to have about them. Don’t get me wrong, these guys are cynical, but no more cynical than your average mid-westerner. I haven’t really talked about the movie, because it’s still sitting with me like all there movies are still sitting with me. The ranking filmography game is a stupid simple pleasure a lot of the times, but if you try’n do that with The Coens, you feel like you’ve insulted yourself and them with whatever arbitrary ranking you’ve come up with. Me? I’m just glad we got Richard Kind in one of these movies.
See ya next week

Olympics - Where Universal Brotherhood, Patriotism and Individual Accomplishment Meld
"The Olympics are the place all inclusive fellowship, wild nationalism and individual achievement merge making the ideal microcosm of the world"
The cutting edge Olympic Games, where most of the nations of the world meet like clockwork now, it used to be at regular intervals, is a microcosm of the world. It draws out the best in us: the competitors, the onlookers and the nations of the world... who truly progressed toward becoming members in the 'more prominent' occasion. We as a whole set our disparities aside as we are associated with this astonishing worldwide occasion, while in the meantime showing our most profound devoted sentiments and individual best endeavors as competitors.
At the point when Sean White shows his most current boarding trap in Torino or Vancouver, the young of the world is entranced. At the point when an obscure luger from Georgia, Nodar (Kumaritashvili ), with a last name that nobody can articulate, bites the dust by and by the evening before the opening services of the Vancouver Olympics the whole world, particularly the whole Olympic athletic network, grieves. Or then again when Canadian Joannie Rochette loses her mom at the Olympics two days before her occasion, because of an enormous heart assault, the whole world heaves. Joannie chose to forge ahead and skate to pay tribute to her mom, who was her most noteworthy fan. She skated her own best and did not split her diversion face until her stage one bronze short-skate execution was finished, after which everybody cried with her. She eventually brought home the bronze decoration, finishing her exhibition with a kiss as her eyes were raised on high to the sky, to a tune of acclaim.
Tumblr media
Idle Heroes Events (Guides and Sneak Peeks) - Idle Heroes Pro
In 2003 preceding the Beijing Olympics, when Kim Collins dashed to a shocking triumph in the 100 meters at the World Championships, a great many people had no clue which nation the letters SKN represented. Collins, from the Caribbean island country of St. Kitts and Nevis, said his triumph was "the greatest thing" to occur since his nation with a populace of under 40,000 picked up their autonomy in 1983.
The Olympics are the one spot where you don't need to be from a rich or amazing nation, an affluent family or a major or surely understood country to be dealt with similarly and have a similar opportunity to win. Furthermore, for some, similar to Collins, their accomplishments add to their nation's national character and help put it on the guide for the travel industry or for others help the world see a milder side of a super power like when America's Dan Jansen fell subsequent to committing his skate to his sister Jane, who passed on of disease before in the day, to finish up falling and disintegrating into tears. Dan won that Gold six years after the fact and took his triumph lap holding his one-year-old girl named Jane... for his sister.
As Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has noted: "When the world takes a gander at Australia, such a large amount of their picture of Australia is formed by what our sportsmen and ladies have done on the field of game, including the Olympic games" and what the world saw of our nation as the Australian's facilitated the Olympic Games.
At the point when Tanzanian long distance runner John Stephen Akhwari hauled his harmed leg to complete last with a period of four hours 30 minutes in the long distance race in the Mexico City Games in 1968, he got warm praise and cheers from a group that stayed and sat tight for him to wrap up. "My nation did not send me to Mexico City to begin the race. They sent me to complete," said Akhwari, at that point 30. Regardless of completing last, Akhwari ended up a standout amongst the most essential figures in Olympic history and was respected as a national legend by his nation in 1983.
National pride is instilled in each competitor and each amusement or occasion, yet so is sympathy for individual competitors from everywhere throughout the world. Throughout the years the world saw how Japanese volleyball fans thundered for their national group and how the Italians grieved their football crew's misfortune on home soil. We have seen Canadian powerhouse in soccer crushed by far American group and the most loved beaten by less evaluated competitors, even from their very own group.
What's more, as Olympic preparing, in a consistently contracting world, has changed and covers to an ever increasing extent, we see genuine kinships and satisfaction for individual competitors that are the two companions and contenders like between the Canadian and American ice moving Gold and Silver medalists, separately, who share mentors and practice ice. What's more, again as now mentor Brian Orser, who the Gold dependably escaped as a skater, viewed Kim Yu-Na become the dominant Queen as she accepting Gold as the primary South Korean to ever win a figure skating award.
Now and again it has been the host nations that were as much the story as the competitors. There were the Hitler Olympics (Summer and Winter 1936) that enabled a psycho to utilize them for promulgation. And after that in 1972 Germany got her opportunity to make up for herself with the Munich Olympics where Jewish-American Mark Spitz took a remarkable seven Gold decorations yet his achievements were amusingly upstaged by the slaughter of eleven Israeli competitors by an aggressor Palestinian gathering. There were the war years (1916 Summer, 1940 Summer and Winter, and 1944 Summer and Winter) that made the recreations be dropped totally and the 1980 Moscow Olympics that were boycotted by the United States and subsidiary nations including Japan, West Germany, China, the Philippines and Canada, which at that point caused the blacklist of 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games by Moscow and partners, 14 Eastern Bloc nations and partners including the Soviet Union, Cuba and East Germany (yet not Romania). Furthermore, there were the on-going doping and medication upgrading outrages of the Eastern Bloc competitors under their impact by the Soviet Union. Furthermore, more as of late there were the pre-Beijing grievances of human and every living creature's common sense entitlement infringement. In any case, the Olympic fire clearly touched off the Chinese individuals' adoration for their country and a large number of them rioted after abroad endeavors to upset, or even harm the Olympic light hand-off at an early stage, in addition to for in any event 17 days the Chinese government knew and freely ceased from a considerable lot of their practices against human and every living creature's common sense entitlement. At last the network of countries and the general population of the world rose over the shadows.
Furthermore, recollect the 2002 Winter Games opening in Salt Lake City? A worn out U.S. banner recuperated from the seething remains of the World Trade Center was shown as President George W. Bramble announced the Games' opened for a "glad, decided and appreciative country". The core of the world was with them. It was the U.S. message to the world: Americans love their nation as they remained in the shadows of the September eleventh catastrophe, and the world should stand joined to advance basic goals and trust in harmony.
In any case, at last it is the names and exhibitions of the competitors like: Sarah Hughes, Franz Klammer, Dick Button, Jean-Claude Killy, Bonnie Blair, Bjorn Dahlie, Nadia Comaneci, Usain Bolt, Eric Heiden, Hermann Meir, Peggy Flemming, Steven Bradley, Carl Lewis, Dorothy Hamel, Jesse Owens, Scott Hamilton, America's Miracle on Ice Hockey Team and the rundown continues endlessly that make the diversions and add to the living soul of the Olympics. Despite the fact that Michael Phelps is commonly viewed as the best Olympian, it is difficult to gather a rundown of the best. There are such a significant number of elements. Furthermore, it is difficult to look at the competitors of the early Games against the experts of the cutting edge time.
Times of genuine emergency draw out the best in each one of us, the general population of the world, yet the Olympic Games are the one occasion that for in any event once at regular intervals draws out the best in humanity without an emergency. There is an extraordinary story of the air terminal and town of Gander in Newfoundland who permitted just about 200 inbound American flights to arrive at their airplane terminal, after the airspace was shut over the United States without precedent for its history inside hours after 9/11. In any case, the 4-days that pursued and the astounding neighborliness of the general population of Gander is the genuine story, and it is that embodiment that develops without the emergency, through the Olympic Games.
It takes substantially more than enthusiasm and aspiration to have fruitful Games. It is imperative to demonstrate full regard to all competitors - to sparkling stars like Michael Phelps and Anton Apolo Ohno or the individuals who absolutely continue on like Akhwari or the Cool Running Team from Jamaica, just as to the nations and societies of the world they originate from, to the onlookers who come to grasp the diversions, to the Olympic soul itself, and to every one of the individuals who have contended previously. It is an almost negligible difference between adoration for nation, individual desire and at any rate for 17-days at regular intervals, world solidarity. Be that as it may, sitting together as a family and viewing the Olympics with your youngsters can be one of the best shared encounters a family can have including exercises and motivation without an immediate word regularly being said.

*What is Rhetoric to Me?*
In Comm 380, Rhetorical Traditions, I learned about many theories of rhetoric. This essay details how my definition and understanding of rhetoric has changed from the beginning to the end of the course. In the beginning of the term, I stated that rhetoric was “persuasive speaking and writing designed to get people thinking similarly to the speaker or author. If a rhetorical piece gets its audience to agree with or sympathize with it, then it has succeeded.” Now I believe that rhetoric is: “The art of persuading as successfully human, or the practice of persuading an audience through ethos, pathos, logos appeals, narrative relation, and true human connection.”
The first element of my new definition of rhetoric was influenced by the great Greek philosopher Aristotle. I agree with Aristotle that rhetoric should include his proofs: ethos, pathos, logos, but he lacks the other elements I felt later rhetoricians brought to the table, such as narrative and personal connection. Whereas Aristotle’s teacher Plato believed rhetoric to be nothing more than a “knack” as revealed in Gorgias, Aristotle thought that rhetoric could be applied truthfully when defending ideas and one’s self. Both agreed that the truth is objective, but had different ways of viewing rhetoric in relation to that belief. Plato thought rhetoric was a mimicry of “true” crafts, or learned skill sets through training. Rhetoric according to him, would be used to claim false knowledge of these crafts and thereby deceive people, furthering society from the truth. Aristotle thought that rhetoric could be harnessed to defend the truth, ideas, and one’s self. Rhetoric according to Aristotle could be used to make truthful cases and create a better society in extension. My definition of rhetoric is indifferent to Aristotle’s theory that rhetoric is a truth defending tool. However, his usage of his three proofs does have substantial bearing on my theory. The Aristitilian proofs are ethos, pathos, and logos. “logos or arguments and logical reasoning, pathos or the names and causes of various emotions, and ethos or human character and goodness.” (Herrick 78). Pathos draws an emotional connection with the audience, ethos portrays the rhetor as moral, and logos drives home the communication with sound logic. I believe this trio of appeals to be the core basis of rhetoric, because it primes the audience for persuasion on their most base levels, resulting in the capacity for higher amounts of persuasion.
My next element, narrative relation, was cemented by Sonja Foss’s Rhetorical Criticism. Foss states “Narratives organize the stimuli of our experience so that we can make sense of the people, places, events, and actions in our lives.” (Foss 333). Foss lays out plainly why narrative is key to rhetoric. Rhetoric in my definition is meant to persuade in the most successfully human way possible. The way humans organize their lives is around stories. Storytelling helps us make sense of life and aids us in figuring out what we value. If rhetoric is to be successful, it should mimic the natural flow of a narrative, because that is what people understand, and once there is understanding between rhetor and audience, the message can come through easier. The ancient Greek king Pericles used narrative in his rhetoric to great effect. Despite the terrible plague and losing war going on for the Athenians, the king Pericles was able to use narrative structured rhetoric to keep morale high. Pericles told his people: “If you shrink before the exertions the war makes necessary, and fear that after all that they may not have a happy result, you know the reasons by which I have often demonstrated to you the groundlessness of your apprehensions.” (Crawley par 10). Pericles created the narrative here that the people must support the war because their own reasons for not wanting to are no good. He claims to have already proven this earlier in the “story” he is spinning around the war. If there are no good reasons against the war, then the war should keep being fought. Relating a narrative into rhetoric is essential, as it creates structure for the audience to understand what they are hearing, making an opening for the rhetor to use to get through to them.
Third, and final of the main elements of my rhetorical definition is true human connection. I believe the current influx of feminine styled rhetors are proving this aspect of rhetoric to be essential to the persuasion process. “Feminine Style” and Political Judgement in the Rhetoric of Ann Richards by Bonnie J. Dow and Mari Boor Tonn, defines feminine style as: “discourse that displays a personal tone, uses personal experience, anecdotes and examples as evidence, exhibits inductive structure, emphasizes audience participation, and encourages identification between speaker and audience.” (Dow and Boor Tonn 287). I see feminine style as the natural progression of narrative rhetoric. Before, with Pericles, the narrative was about creating understanding and reasoning, but now with feminine style, personal tone and experience create added sympathy and relationship, bolstering the rhetoric. Feminine style provides true human connection to persuasive communication, and takes narrative rhetoric one step closer to being successfully human.
Through the combination of Aristitilian proofs, narrative relation, and true human connection, rhetoric becomes successful human persuasion. Narrative storytelling provides organization for the audience, through which they can understand what the rhetor is trying to communicate. True human connection is established by use of personal experiences that the audience can relate to or sympathize with, thus creating a potent emotional and often shared-experiential bond between the rhetor and them. Ethos, pathos, and logos and found intertwined in narrative and feminine style, and they bring it all together. Pathos is found in the personal tone of the rhetor, ethos is found in the substance or ideas of the rhetor, and logos is found in the defense the rhetor puts forward for themselves. Rhetoric for me is: “The art of creating the most successfully human form of persuasion, or the practice of persuading an audience through ethos, pathos, logos appeals, narrative relation, and true human connection.” To combine these elements from multiple rhetorical theorists from throughout history, results in what I believe to be the most successfully human form of persuasion, true rhetoric.

Micro organism engineered as Malicious program for most cancers immunotherapy
http://tinyurl.com/yymbrd87 New York, NY–July 3, 2019–The rising area of artificial biology–designing new organic parts and systems–is revolutionizing medication. By way of the genetic programming of dwelling cells, researchers are creating engineered methods that intelligently sense and reply to various environments, resulting in extra particular and efficient options compared to present molecular-based therapeutics. On the similar time, most cancers immunotherapy–using the physique’s immune defenses to struggle cancer–has remodeled most cancers remedy over the previous decade, however solely a handful of strong tumors have responded, and systemic remedy typically ends in important negative effects. Designing therapies that may induce a potent, anti-tumor immune response inside a strong tumor with out triggering systemic toxicity has posed a major problem. Researchers at Columbia Engineering and Columbia College Irving Medical Middle (CUIMC) introduced immediately that they’re addressing this problem by engineering a pressure of non-pathogenic micro organism that may colonize strong tumors in mice and safely ship potent immunotherapies, performing as a Trojan Horse that treats tumors from inside. The remedy led not solely to finish tumor regression in a mouse mannequin of lymphoma, but additionally important management of distant, uninjected tumor lesions. Their findings are revealed immediately in Nature Drugs. “Seeing untreated tumors reply alongside remedy of main lesions was an surprising discovery. It’s the first demonstration following a bacterial most cancers remedy of what’s termed an ‘abscopal’ impact,” says Tal Danino, assistant professor of biomedical engineering. “Which means we’ll be capable of engineer micro organism to prime tumors domestically, after which stimulate the immune system to hunt out tumors and metastases which are too small to be detected with imaging or different approaches.” The examine was led in collaboration with Nicholas Arpaia, assistant professor of microbiology & immunology at CUIMC, and co-senior creator on the publication. The crew mixed their experience in artificial biology and immunology to engineer a pressure of micro organism capable of develop and multiply within the necrotic core of tumors. When micro organism numbers attain a essential threshold, the non-pathogenic E. coli are then programmed to self-destruct, permitting for efficient launch of therapeutics and stopping them from wreaking havoc elsewhere within the physique. Subsequently, a small fraction of micro organism survive lysis and reseed the inhabitants, permitting for repeated rounds of drug supply inside handled tumors. The proof of concept in programming the micro organism on this method was initially developed just a few years in the past (Din & Danino et al. Nature 2016). Within the present examine, the authors selected to launch a nanobody that targets a protein known as CD47. CD47, a “don’t-eat-me” sign, protects most cancers cells from being eaten by innate immune cells equivalent to macrophages and dendritic cells. It’s present in abundance on a majority of human strong tumors and has not too long ago turn out to be a well-liked therapeutic goal. “However CD47 is current elsewhere within the physique, and systemic focusing on of CD47 ends in important toxicity as evidenced by latest medical trials. To resolve this problem, we engineered micro organism to focus on CD47 solely throughout the tumor and keep away from systemic side-effects of remedy,” provides Sreyan Chowdhury, the paper’s lead creator and a PhD scholar co-mentored by Arpaia and Danino. The mixed impact of bacterially induced native irritation throughout the tumor and the blockade of CD47 results in elevated ingestion, or phagocytosis of tumor cells and subsequently to enhanced activation and proliferation of T cells throughout the handled tumors. The crew discovered that remedy with their engineered micro organism not solely cleared the handled tumors but additionally lowered the incidence of tumor metastasis in a number of fashions. “Remedy with engineered micro organism led to priming of tumor-specific T cells within the tumor that then migrated systemically to additionally deal with distant tumors,” Arpaia says. “With out each reside bugs lysing within the tumor and the CD47 nanobody payload, we weren’t capable of observe the therapeutic or abscopal results.” The crew is now performing additional proof-of-concept exams, in addition to security and toxicology research, of their engineered immunotherapeutic micro organism in a variety of superior strong tumor settings in mouse fashions. Constructive outcomes from these exams might result in a medical trial in sufferers. They’re additionally collaborating with Gary Schwartz, CUIMC’s chief of hematology/oncology and deputy director of the Herbert Irving Complete Most cancers Middle, on medical translation facets of their work, and have began an organization to translate their promising know-how to sufferers. ### Concerning the Examine The examine is titled “Programmable micro organism induce sturdy tumor regression and systemic antitumor immunity.” Authors are: Sreyan Chowdhury1,2; Samuel Castro1; Courtney Coker1; Taylor E.
