my take: as long as you arent glorifying toxicity or presenting a toxic relationship as being good and desirable there is literally no issue?

people act like you can’t write character personalities or plots differently than what’s canonically presented and thats CRAZY. people do it ALL THE TIME with everything else, have you SEEN how many AUs exist??? why is it a problem with tacomic?

like the whole point of writing ship dynamics and making fanart and fanfic is that the characters will literally never act this way in canon (cause object shows rarely have canon ships). as long as you arent shipping illegal stuff theres literally no problem.

and honestly i think i have to have this outlook on it as a floorphone shipper(SORRY FOR BRINGING UP FLOORPHONE AGAIN BUT I SWEAR ITS RELEVANT), otherwise i’d be a hypocrite. basically yada yada mephone wanted sooo badly to get rid of floory in ep 12 but then they end up becoming cohosts, and like their dynamic does a whole 180 canonically because of this. That just proves, yeah, its possible for two characters to be written in a way where their dynamic starts as 🔥enemies🔥 and then they becomes friends or lovers, even. guys the enemies to lovers trope is soo overused but its also soo epic.

but yeah people who act like its impossible to ship something unless the characters were best friends from the very start or never did any harm to one another are actually bonkers. like are we forgetting the fantube divorce? i dunno man the way test tube was acting toward fan was prettyyy toxic. what about sodapack? canonically they’re pretty awful for each other but a large majority of the fanbase continues to ship them (myself included lmao). even fireafy has toxic traits and thats one of the most popular bfdi ships. personally i think a ship is better and more believable when there ARE disagreements or occassional bad things that happen. that doesn’t necessarily make a relationship unhealthy, every relationship will have the occassional ups and downs. thats just how it is. and to act like everything HAS to be perfect or else it’s unhealthy is just. ugh. that makes it seem like no one should ever ship anything ever again.

i know people are gonna be like ‘but taco was only ever manipulative toward mic!!!’ and yeah i agree, but you’re forgetting my earlier point. you can write things differently lmao.

the amount of fanfiction I have written that COMPLETELY IGNORES canon is nuts. guys it’s no fun to have to follow canon to a t, go crazy be silly write the funny fanfic where literally everyone is ooc and the plot makes no sense, i love stuff like that.

It’s weird tho, isn’t it? The sorta-existence of animals in object shows? And this applies to a lot of media, how like, in spongebob, dogs are worms and clams are birds, but it’s just funny in object shows. Because bfdi popularized the concept, like, having fish or bugs in object shows is super normal, because there’s a fish monster and fish in bfdi, but you never see like, dogs or cats. Which is weird, because in the 1,000,000 subscribers video we see the algebraliens talking about their cats, but of course, at that point, object shows were already a big thing.

And of course there’s cat based objects, like in M.O.S.S, there’s furry ball who is like, a cat, but they’re also clearly still an object.

There’s also the dogs in burger brawl but the whole joke is that they’re just literally a photo cutout of the creator’s and contestant’s (who are all based on real people’s) dogs.

And while I don’t have any real numeric evidence for “bugs and fish seem to be much more common in object shows than, say, dogs or cats, perhaps because the original bfdi featured fish and fish monsters” it’s just a trend that popped into my head and I was thinking about and decided say.

Some of my BFDI AUs

I have a lot but these are my favorites.

Aphotic - One of my favorites, so it's at the top. Humanized and takes place in a realistic world version of Yoyle City, so no recovery. A mysterious, unidentified illness has been going around in Yoyle City, with seemingly no correlation or interaction between new cases. The problem? Everyone who seems to experience the symptoms goes missing around a week after the illness first appears. GB and TB, two world-renowned scientists, start investigating this illness along with Tree, Pen, Fries, Fanny, and Teardrop, as they were close to some of the missing cases. Things turn to utter chaos when Clock shows up at their research facility— three months after his own disappearance.

Shackled Divinity - This is the one with those deity designs I posted. Takes place presumably post-BFB and TPOT. Loser uncovers his buried memories as an ancient deity and goes mad with power, forcing Winner to gather up what other deities they can reach and put a stop to Loser's reign of terror.

Prismatic - Realistic world without recovery, but they're still objects. Tree and Fries are reporters who have picked up on a series of disappearances linked to the Crystalline Caverns, a popular tourist destination right outside of Yoyle City. Supposedly it's due to people wandering into the prohibited parts of the caverns without supervision, but Tree feels that something is off and convinces Fries of it. They go to investigate and get interviews for an article, only to discover that the reflective crystals in the caverns serve as a gateway to a near inescapable labyrinth that they unfortunately get stuck in. Now they must rely on the guidance of Pen and Puffball, two people who have gotten trapped in the caves years before, in order to find a way to escape.

Forager - Competition world, not humanized. It starts off as one of those classic BFB AUs where Four turns evil for no discernible reason and forces the contestants into a death game. One specific set of 8 are put into a heavily forested area far away from everyone else, and Four expects them to go insane and kill each other. So what do they do? Why, they band together and build cabins and farms and live together, of course. The group is Liy, Stapy, Lightning, Marker, Fries, Puffball, Pen, and Remote.

This one is unnamed and more just a flimsy concept I really really like. Humanized. Realistic world. Ish. It involves Pen getting cursed and now he's slowly dying and lots of flowers and Leafy being a malevolent nature deity and Tren and Black Hole being the embodiment of death. It's mostly Tren angst with a supernatural edge. No idea if I'll ever solidify this into an actual AU.

Hm, I sure wonder how many of these include Pen as a major character! Let's see... 4. Out of 5. He's like a lil' shimeji thing in my brain that wanders into my stories that I Cannot keep Out.

STARES AT THIS ASK. okay uhrnmhm thisll be under a cut becuz its long <//3 just gonna talk abt General Osc Things since you said you dont know much… okay👍

okay so object shows are just like.. silly funny web-series things with little object guys. they tend to have faces and little stick figure limbs but of course there are always characters that will break typical design conventions. general name for Eveythjng is the object show community (osc for short. theres so many acronyms hopefully that isnt too confusing..)

first ever object show is bfdi (battle for dream island) it was made in 2010 by these two guys, the huang twins, youve probably seen Something theyvemade before they make a lotta cool things, it started in 2010 and is still going on today! its a competition based show inspired by total drama, and the main premise is 20 contestants who are little silly objects are competing for the titular ‘dream island’ throughout multiple challenges, and characters get voted out each episode by the viewers! bfdi is mostly silly jokes and slapstick type stuff, but still has certain bits where they get more ‘serious’ and has its fair share of lore and character arcs. practically every object show is based off of/inspired by this since it was the first and set up the general formula most other shows follow =)

generally speaking its agreed on that inanimate insanity (ii for short) is the second show to be made, and this one takes even more total drama/survivor inspirations. it started in 2011, and is also still going on, generally the second most popular show and REALLY popular on the tumblr side of the osc, probably due to its more ‘serious’ tone compared to other shows. season 1 is pretty… aged.. you can tell it was made by a bunch of teens in the early 2010s, but season 2 as it goes on gets more and more focus on story, character arcs and development, all that jazz. theres a ton of shows from around the time that later season 2 episodes where releasing that take a lot more inspirtation from it in tone and stuff!

something im not entirely sure how to fit into the main bits is that these are like. largely made by kids/teens. bfdi was first created when they were in like middle school n stuff, same with ii, in more recent years as people who have been the community for a while n stuff are getting older theres a lot more adults of course but its still mainly younger people… not enough people seem to take that into consideration when talking abt the community at large/certain shows n stuff so i figured id make sure to point it out 👍

actually speaking of that. a lot and i mean a LOT of shows end up being kind of… obviosuly made by kids. a lot of people find this annoying but i personally couldnt care less its pretty endearing to me (probably cuz me and my friends were all like that lolz) although i can understand where people are coming from with shit where its just like.. offensive. thats not too common tho in my expierence. okay so generic and ‘poorly’ made shows are super common. the response to this there was a massive surge in joke shows which are their whole own beast. im not too familiar with them so im not the best person to come for for that stuff, they generally just joke about how generic and oversaturated object shows were getting to be around the time . all that shit. gimmick shows are also pretty common nowadays, i havent seen any of these so i have nothing to really say i just dont know much aside from they have Gimmicks and thats the whole premise ?

a show thats become like, massive, considered one of ‘the big three’ up there with bfdi and ii, is ONE by cheesy hfj (sometimes also called hfjone or one hfj) its this sort of meta show that uses object shows as a framing device (and its predecessor was this show called battle for circle which is a joke show poking fun at how low quality and samey everything is blah blah blah) and its. a whole thing . i dont even know how to really explain it in a quick summary its like… the undertale of object shows if that makes sense.

theres just. so much i genuienly dont know how or where to end this off becuz the community is SO big and has been around for over a decade and im only really familar with tiny sections of it…

yeah. general takeaway for me when it comes to Everything as a whole is just like.. object shows. the osc. whatever. is just this big community made of passionate people who like to make things and want to share that and its!! cool and fun and despite it having all the typical fandom issues im really grateful that i discovered this stuff becuz it genuinelyhas changed my life and i dont know if i would be as into making art or if i would have this kinda attitude on art that i have now if it werent for the osc. a lot of shows are really silly and all of it looks. kinda stupid if youre not familar with them but they gneuinely hold this special place in my heart cuz… well im not entirely sure how to put it into words if im bring honest. they just feel very.. genuine to me. everyone in the community is so passionate and it just makes me really happy seeing people making things they love and enjoy regardless of how ‘stupid’ or ‘cringe’ or whatever the fuck it might seem if that makes sense =)

Leafy Sexuality Headcanon: I could see her as bi but with a preference for men Gender Headcanon: Girl with a question mark sound. I don't wanna label her a cis girl but like I don't really have a solid gender concept for her :0 certainly fem leaning but like maybe a demi-girl? A ship I have with said character: I am not too fussed abt shipping w/ leafy. I guess I can say I don't mind Fiery x Leafy cause it's p popular, but I'm really not super into any Leafy ships. Leafy x Pin is cute, I think I saw that before? A BROTP I have with said character: Man, honestly Leafy is a chara I struggle on just cause- she wasn't in bfb much due to getting out early and then when I watched the original bfdi I jsut was struggling through it so I paid no attention to character interactions. But! I do like art with fiery and leafy interacting and hanging out. Like sure its ship art most of the time, but idk, I just like them hanging out. A NOTP I have with said character: Not fussed abt notps for leafy :0 Can't think of anyone I'd actively not want to see with her. A random headcanon: I like making her like, a little leaf bug crossed w/ a kangaroo for my creature design xD And she can just spring away so far, jsut, nyoom. General Opinion over said character: I wiiiiish I could see what everyone sees in her, I wish I found bfdi as a kid before I had highe opinions on animation and writing; But since bfb was my first watch of the bfdi universe, and leafy got out early, I jsut was so confused abt her character? Like ok, she puts up a facade of being nice and she really tries to people please, but then when she comes back later she- just seems different? Like she just turned it down a number of notches. But like, why, what changed in the EXIT that made her more chill. I really do want to like her!! But I just don't really have a solid view on what her character is and it kinda confuses me. Heck, I think she could take over the world if she met Taco and was convinced, buuuut then she'd see a butterfly and be like Oh ok time to do some wandering :) and jsut leave. A NOTP I have with said character: I hesitantly say shipping her with Nickel; thanks to a youtube map I watched I prefer them as sibling dynamic. So not so much a notp as much as just I would kinda squirm if I saw it but could probably be convinced I guess? A random headcanon: She randomly wanders away from contestant grounds during off time and will just turn up in a town like 50 miles away after 1 hour and no one knows how she got there. She always manages to get back tho. General Opinion over said character: Oooh she's so cute and she's very funny. Her exit interview was probably my fav peak into her character cause she was kinda backhanded? She's like "If I really had my luck I wouldn't be talking to you :) " Like she basically said Pls frick off to her interviewer but in a nice way. I jsut think we didn't see enough of that character side of her in the show. Really wish we could get more Clover content! I'm hoping that ii does something post season 3 like the comics but w/ s3 characters in hotel oj too, just cause I want that interaction content so bad.

One thing that will always haunt me is the evil leafy fanfics I wrote in 2018/2019. Probably majority of my online friends followed me because of a fancomic I made in 2018-2019 that was basically evil leafy slasher thing. I didn’t even draw evil leafy correctly. My art was. Well, it was bad. But I’ve NEVER been tagged in as much posts as I did when I made that comic. People drew fanart for it.. People barely ever draw me anything anymore 😅 besides like close friends occasionally. However I don’t really draw much for others either so who am I to complain?

But that comic is not really growing at all. Nobody is learning if it’s existence anymore tbh. But yknow what is??!?!?!? My evil leafy fanfic from 2019. I remember when I first was posting it it was like super high up on the bfdi tag on Wattpad, I’m pretty sure it got in the top ten at some point.. maybe even to number one but I don’t really remember, that was ages ago. Currently it’s in the top 200s.

I haven’t updated it since uhm. 2020 I think? Maybe 2019? Every few weeks I’ll get back into Wattpad and there always seems to be more notifications for it. And like yeah I’m glad people like it but like. There are so many things I’m putting effort into NOW that barely get an ounce of the recognition my poorly written evil leafy fanfics got/get.

It’s just so odd. They aren’t like super duper ultra popular, but compared to most of my other stuff… they are?

And it’s not that I don’t like the attention. Man. I love attention and I love compliments. But currently my main passion is with my object OCs… and it’s obvious people aren’t as thrilled with those as they are with my fan content 😞 which I understand.
