"Son Of Nyx" / "Inferno" theory !!
Although the title of "Son Of Nyx" is already very fitting for circle six (Heresy - a belief opposed to mainly christian beliefs) with Hozier calling (i assume) himself the son of the goddess of night, whereas God is the giver of light, I do have another theory in terms of "Inferno" itself.
Before Dante gets to circle six, he is stuck outside the gates of the City of Dis (a walled-off area of Inferno separating circles 1-5 from 6-9). There is a long section where, as Virgil (his guide) attempts to calm him, Dante stews in a fear that he may never be able to leave Hell. After panicking, he feels a presence and looks to see an angel approaching to open the gates of the City for Dante and Virgil so they can continue their journey.
This part of "Inferno" feels very represented in "Son of Nyx", with the first half of the song being melancholic piano and then growing into a full orchestra in the second half. It mirrors the appearance of the angel.
I think this is also representative of the narrative of the album as a whole:
We know that the album is a walk through of a breakup told in terms of the circles of Hell. We also know that "Son Of Nyx" is the crossover song to the second and darker half of the album where the relationship seems to completely fall apart.
Hozier compares the relationship itself to Inferno, calling it dark (the main theme and aspect of Inferno) many times. The last song on the album mirrors Dante and Virgil leaving Inferno, as Hozier himself confirms the relationship is over ("And I am never going back again.") Hozier seems describe leaving Inferno, therefore leaving this relationship, as painful but also a relief. (Feeling the light again, "one bright morning comes", but knowing it also means the darkness, his relationship, is gone.)
How this links into "Son Of Nyx" is that, despite the appearance of the angel in the City of Dis, Dante feels as though all divinity is lost throughout Inferno. In fact, the angel at this mid-point of Inferno is the only thing from Heaven to enter Inferno whilst Dante is there. It is the only light he gets whilst being down there, since Inferno is notably dark and black.
Since "Son Of Nyx" leads us into the final breaking of the relationship Hozier is singing about, I think we can see the second half of the song (the reference to the angel) as, although being incredibly pained by the ending of this relationship (as shown in the first half of the instrumental), Hozier also sees it as a hope to move onto something lighter - the same way Dante's confidence and hope is reinstalled by the angel.
Just a theory and a guess since I think "Son Of Nyx" is obviously one of the more vague songs on the album. Y'know, having no words except "who we are" and "she always wins" so... yes! I hope my vigorous readings of "Inferno" might help us understand the song a little more lmao

I haven't felt so free with my art in so long. Traditional art just brings out my creativity, and it's actually enjoyable. Idk why I insist on forcing myself to draw digitally honestly.

"You can get through this." Horribly ashamed to admit that, no, I don't think I can.
I don't think I will.
Let's be realistic; I've tried to end it all more times than I can count on my hands. What makes anyone assume that I'll be able to scrape through all of what's going on without, at the very least, trying again?
God, if I try again, I hope I succeed. I well and truly do.
It's so exhausting.
I'm so tired.

Anyways, fuck the person that called Honey a sh*ta. He is LITERALLY the Lolita type. Lolita fashion was very popular in the 90s and 00s.
Lolita fashion is a subculture from Japan that is highly influenced by Victorian clothing and styles from the Rococo period. A very distinctive property of Lolita fashion is the aesthetic of cuteness. This clothing subculture can be categorized into three main substyles: 'gothic', 'classic', and 'sweet'.
The manga for Ouran High School Host Club was serialized between September 02 and November 10. The time *when* the fashion and culture was popular which makes sense for why Bisco Hatori would include a host fitting that archetype. Mitsukuni Haninozuka is literally described as being attractive to guests due to his cutesy interests and young physique (which in itself was due to Kyoya giving him medicine to stunt his growth as a way to preserve that cuteness). However, he is very much a mature individual and had proven to be capable of handling things on his own. He may be childish but is not at all a child. He's the oldest of the group and considered a senior.
Circling back to how the guests find him "attractive". You can find someone attractive, or appealing (which is the literal definition), without being attracted to them. Our host identifies as asexual/aceflux yet they still find people to be attractive. Pleasing on the eyes. Pretty.
Honey Senpai's role in the host club is to *be* cute. Teenage girls like cute things. They like tea parties, sweets, and plushies. These line up with Honey's interests and thus the guests would in turn like him.
We've met actual people Host's age (19) around his height (around 5' / 60 inches) and some of them are still baby faced. While Honey was given medicine, people biological age/mature differently. Some look older whereas some look younger.
Tldr; For Christ's sake, never, ever call him a sh*ta. That's not at *all* what he is. Honey represents the popular fashion subculture known as lolita. Moreso the "sweet" categorization as lolita is based around a "cute" aesthetic.

more good news from tiktok: they’ve started blocking celebrities.
they’re calling it block party 2024. just blocking and ignoring countless celebrities who havent said shit about palestine. influencers, actors, anyone who went to the met gala, whatever, they’re getting blocked. and people keep talking about how cathartic it is, how good it feels, how they never realized they could DO that. there was some kind of subconscious law against blocking famous people, but it’s broken, and people are LOVING it. and it’s WORKING. a social media/digital advertising coordinator was talking about how ad companies are PANICKING, because they can’t accurately target anymore. so many big influencers, including fucking LIZZO started talking about palestine the MOMENT their follower counts started going down. and the best part? no one is forgiving them. lizzo posted a tiktok asking people to donate to palestinian families, and all the comments just said you’re a multimillionaire. put your money where your mouth is. blocked.
i feel like i’m witnessing the downfall of celebrity culture, right here right now. people are waking up.

I think one big reason why we don't consider the stars as important as before (not even pop-astrology anymore cares about the stars or the sky on itself, just the signs deprived of context) is because of light pollution.
Tumblr media
For most of human history the sky looked between 1-3, 4 at most. And then all of a sudden with electrification it was gone (I'm lucky if I get 6 in my small city). The first time I saw the Milky Way fully as a kid was a spiritual experience, I was almost scared on how BRIGHT it was, it felt like someone was looking back at me. You don't get that at all with modern light pollution.
When most people talk about stargazing nowadays they think about watching about a couple of bright dots. The stars are really, really not like that. The unpolluted night sky is a festival of fireworks. There is nothing like it.

I really think they need to start teaching kids in schools that most blind people can see a little bit, most deaf people can hear a little bit, and most wheelchair users can walk a little bit. And they are still disabled.
