Abbas Attar's photographs of Dhaka on December 16, 1971: when the Pakistani Armed Forces finally surrendered to Mukti Bahini, ending the nine-month Liberation War and 1971 Bangladesh genocide and marking the official secession of East Pakistan to become the new state of Bangladesh. Bangladesh commemorates this day as Victory Day (বিজয় দিবস) to honour the martyrs who laid their lives down in the war.

“I know I can never defeat you Lobo, but I will never stop fighting for this life.”
[ID: A digital Persian Miniature styled art of Death and Puss In Boots’ final battle on the Wishing Star from the movie Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. The background is a blue with darker cracked textures signifying the area of the star, and the borders are purple with pink and white flame patterns across. Death can be seen raising his sickles at Puss with a feral snarling smile on his face, meanwhile Puss is knelt in front of him holding out his sword as his terrified expression is reflected on one of Death’s sickles. End ID.]
A Persian Miniature-esq styled art of Death and Puss’ final battle on the wishing star. This took me a long time to finish but it was a blast to paint!! Both Puss and Death ended up looking more 3D than what is typical of the very flat and 2D styles of Persian Miniature art, but I feel I managed to capture the energy and ‘flow’ of them well enough!
I adore the use of fairy tales and folklores in the Shrek universe and so I thought the idea of using the Persian Miniature style would have fit along with it, as these artworks were often used for book covers and illustrations. I’ve also wanted to create art with more influence from my culture and background, so I thought it’d be a perfect fit!
This was digitally painted with Krita, did I manage to make it look ‘traditional’ and painterly enough despite the digital medium?

Persian! Ed and Al.
One thing about FMA that a lot of people forget is that Xerxes is actually just Ancient Persia. So it always confused me as to why instead of a bunch of Persian people it was just a bunch of white people. So that being said I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Some people get a freak out of me Some people can't see what I can see Some people want to see what I see Some people put an evil eye on me!
WOO MORE MENTAL ILLNESS ART
Another experiment in collage! I'm having way too much fun experimenting with it. This time however I've done some digital painting to go with it, for the 'evil eyes' and a self portrait of me. All the images of eyes from the collage come from wikimedia commons. The self portrait was based on a photo of myself.
I deal with a lot of paranoia, I often have fears that I'm being watched and percieved when I don't want to be, and that what's watching me has a unclear intent thats even more nerve wracking than something outright malicious. I don't know what someone may think when they look at me, a queer neurodivergent person of colour, or worse, what they can immediately tell by looking at me. If someone looks or talks at me in a way that's not so 'friendly', I can feel panicked, I am left anxious over what they could've meant or why they acted that way to me from the Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria, in a way, from that, someone has given me the 'evil eye' and I mentally grow sicker.
The superstition of the Evil Eye has always been fascinating to me, especially since its a superstition that comes from my culture (and many others) as a Iranian and how much I associate it with my paranoia. It's not something I 'believe' in logically, but many of the ideas and concepts for it is something I heavily associate with. For this, nazar charms are often a source of comfort and I enjoy keeping them.
This artwork is based on all of those feelings and fears, and how overwhelming it very much is, and also the slight comforts that nazars give me in spite of it all, as overwhelming it still is.
