Snuggle
When there’s a snowstorm howling outside the only cave you could find and there’s only one sleeping bag, snuggling together is the sensible thing to do.
Inu’s only salty because he knows exactly what Miroku’s up to. If it were only him and Kagome, he probably wouldn’t mind so much.
I haven’t done a ‘draw the squad’ meme for a while! I found this one on Pinterest and it took me a little while, but I found the original poster here on Tumblr.
Thanks @internationalfeel Not sure if you’re active any more, but I had fun!

EPISODE 1: Here Comes Trouble
[[HERE WE GO, BITCHES! Fanfic and Fanart combine to make some unholy mix of Time Consumption that will not leave me alone.
THE LUNAR SAGA, EPISODE 1, START!
Note: the text in the panels doesn't match the actual written portion of the fic ^^; I tried my best but I didn't wanna redraw all of this... ]]
===============
Kagome had been gone longer than she usually was, and Inuyasha was getting impatient.
They’d finally gotten their first lead on Naraku since his disappearance—that he was heading in the direction of the Ox and Tiger (Kagome called it “noh-rth-eest”?)—this was no time for her to be going back to her world! He tried to tell her that when she left, but she insisted that she was going home to bring back something that would help them.
She’d been gone for almost ten days now! What could possibly be taking so long?!
The half demon sat beside the well, seething as he waited for something to happen. He’d been at this pretty much constantly since the day after she left. He had half a mind to follow her down the well to her world and drag her back here; he’d done it before, he could do it again.
“Don’t you dare follow me!” Kagome had said before she left, “I might be gone a while, but I promise it’ll be worth it!”
“Ain’t worth it if we lose track of Naraku because you’re taking so long,” he growled to no one in particular. Obviously, he got no response from the dry well, so he stood up and raised his voice: “HURRY THE HELL UP, KAGOME!”
“Inuyasha?”
Tumblr media
Inuyasha jumped from surprise when he saw Kagome hop up out of the well. She sat on the edge, smiling just softly. A little embarrassed that he was yelling at the well, Inuyasha folded his arms and cleared his throat.
“It’s about time you got back, Kagome,” he said. “What took you so damn long?!”
Kagome sighed, still smiling as she set her feet on the ground and stepped closer to him. “I told you, I had to get something. It took a second, but I said it’d be worth it, didn’t I?”
Tumblr media
“I hope you’re right,” he snorted, “Because if Naraku gets away cos you took too long over there—”
He didn’t get to finish his thought. He hadn’t been paying attention to the well at all; usually, he wouldn’t have needed to. This time, he would definitely regret it. From the depths of the well came a voice he’d never heard before:
“HEADS UP!”
He didn’t even have time to wonder who the hell’s voice it was. Seconds later, something heavy flew out of the well and smacked him square in the face.
Tumblr media
“WHAT THE HELL?!”
Kagome laughed nervously, holding her hands up, “Uh… that would be her.”
Anger boiling and holding his freshly bruised nose, Inuyasha shouted back at her: “WHO?!”
“Keep your pants on!” Came that same voice again. Inuyasha turned his attention back to the well as someone he’d never seen before pushed herself out of the well.
Tumblr media
She dressed strangely—that was a given, she seemed to be from Kagome’s time—and carried a large, oddly-shaped bag on her back. She had thick waves of black hair, much longer than Kagome’s, but pretty much the same shade of jet black. Not only that, she seemed to resemble Kagome in a lot of ways, even if she looked much older. They had the same shape of face, the same nose, and the same round, brown eyes—although, if he looked close enough, he could see a strange pattern in this girl’s irises: little flecks of pale gold, asymmetrically surrounding her pupils.
Inuyasha was immediately on edge, his hand going instinctively for his sword hilt. Kagome saw, and shook her head, setting her hand on his arm.
“Relax, Inuyasha,” She said, “This is who I went back to get.”
“Sorry, did my bag getcha?” The girl asked as she hopped out of the well.
“Inuyasha,” Kagome continued, gesturing to the older girl, “Allow me to introduce you to my older sister. This is Luna.”
Tumblr media
For a second, it didn’t set in. Inuyasha blinked once… twice… “Your… sister? You have a sister?!”
“She sure does,” the girl—Luna—stood tall, grinning and holding out her hand. As she did, she said something he didn’t understand. It sounded like weird gibberish. When she saw his face, she laughed and smacked her palm to her forehead. “Right, sorry. Still getting used to speaking Japanese more than I do English.”
Once again confused, Inuyasha just stared at her. “In-glesh?”
Luna nodded. “It’s the common language where I live.”
“Inuyasha, Luna lives in a different place than the rest of our family,” Kagome explained, “She lives in a country that’s across the ocean, called America.”
“A-mare-i-kah…” Inuyasha tried to say. “Sounds weird.”
“Oh it is, definitely.” Luna laughed, going to pick up her bag.
“Is that what took you so long?” Inuyasha asked Kagome, “You had to wait for her to travel across the ocean?”
“Didn’t take as long as you’d think, had to visit mom and gramps and Sota, too.” It was weird how casual this girl was about everything. “But I can explain why I’m here and where I’m from once we get to where we’re going, right?”
“Right,” Kagome agreed, smiling as she led her sister back toward Kaede’s village. “You gotta meet everyone else, too!”
“Looking forward to it.”
Inuyasha wasn’t sure how to process what the hell just happened. It was a lot of information in a very short amount of time, most of which he didn’t understand, and all of which he didn’t really like. He wasn’t sure how to feel about a new person joining their group, nevermind that he never knew Kagome had more family than the ones he’d met before. And the fact that she threw a heavy bag at his face certainly didn’t help. (Well… it was an accident, but still. It hurt.)
Well… at least Kagome was back, and the most important thing was that they could get on with their search for Naraku.
~ ~ ~
Alright, time to back up a little bit.
Now, there may have been a reason why Kagome didn’t really mention her sister. Part of it might have been that it would be hard to explain that her sister lived on another continent, but another part might have been that it would be even harder to explain why. And the reason it would be so hard to explain—for Kagome specifically—would be because of their father.
Now, the Higurashi family had quite a long history of shrine keepers, priests, and priestesses, dating back several hundred years. Along with that lineage came a propensity for spiritual magic and a connection to the supernatural, as well as the metaphysical, and Keiichirou Higarashi—father to Kagome, Luna, and Sota— was no exception. However, he had bigger dreams than shrine-keeping.
A bit of a rebel, Keiichirou spent some time in America during High School as a part of an exchange program. It was there, through the family that hosted him, that he found a world that he never would have imagined.
The underground world of Supernatural Monster Hunters.
He spent his high school years in America learning all about it: how to fight and protect people against different monsters, some of them like the ones his father told him stories of growing up. When he returned home, he declared that he’d found his calling, and when he could finally afford to, he would move to America to follow it.
His father worried about the fate of the Higurashi Shrine if his only child were to abandon their family’s legacy. Keiichirou wouldn’t back down, but found when he returned home, that the Hunting world extended even to Japan—not quite to the extent that it was in the States, but he could still find a middle ground between what he wanted and what his father did.
And in the interim, he fell in love and married a wonderful woman named Mei, who accepted his weird, secret world wholeheartedly.
The Higurashis’ first child was born on the first day of November, during a very full Harvest Moon. When she opened her eyes for the first time, the doctor immediately diagnosed her with partial Heterochromia; her hazel-brown eyes were speckled with gold just around her irises, making it look like she had little crescent moons in her eyes. Keiichirou chose her name for these reasons; he’d heard it when he was in America, a name that meant “moon”. Luna.
It was seven years until their next child came into the world: Kagome, named for the eight-pointed star Mei saw on her chest after she was born. Keiichirou was excited when he heard about that; he said that both of his girls had special gifts, and hoped they would one day do amazing things with them.
But another six years passed… and things weren’t so happy in the Higurashi house. Keiichirou had already started teaching Luna about the Supernatural world, where Mei thought she was too young. Keiichirou had grown weary over the years, still longing to go back to America, where the Hunter culture was strongest.
When Luna was thirteen, Kagome six, and Sota only a newborn, their parents separated.
Luna was old enough at that point, that her parents let her decide where she wanted to be. Enthralled by the idea of being a Hunter, she wanted to follow her father, even if it meant leaving the rest of her family.
Travel between the two countries was difficult; Luna was lucky if she saw her little sister and brother once a year. But they kept in touch as much as they could: by letter, by email, and a phone call every once in a while.
Then, just four years after he and Luna left Japan, Keiichirou passed away very suddenly of an illness. Despite her family’s insistence that she come back and live in Japan, Luna remained in her father’s house. She knew, by then, that she was too far into the Hunter world to leave; not to mention that she had Alice (an old family friend, let’s say for now), who had been helping take care of her anyway. So she stayed in America, as five more years went by.
She hadn’t talked to her sister in months, when she got a call from her out of the blue:
“Hey Luna, um… So, I’ve got quite the story to tell you…”
~ ~ ~
So here she was, Luna Higurashi, a 22-year-old American Monster Hunter, standing 500-ish years in the past, explaining herself to a half-dog-demon, a kitsune, a nekomata, a Demon Slayer, and a Buddhist Monk. All of whom were extremely surprised to find that Kagome had a sister.
“Nice to get to meet you all,” She said, “Kagome told me all about your adventures. She brought me here to help you get rid of that Naraku guy.”
Tumblr media
“Kagome never told us she had a sister!” The little kitsune—Shippo—piped up first.
“So I’ve heard,” Luna chuckled, crossing her arms.
Sango, the Demon Slayer, looked rather interested in the guitar case Luna was carrying on her back. “You mentioned you were a Slayer too? That must be an impressive weapon you’re carrying.”
“Huh? Oh, no,” Luna shook her head, tugging on the strap. “This is just my guitar. It’s a musical instrument—all my weapons are in my duffel bag.”
Tumblr media
While her attention was on Sango, Luna failed to notice the monk approaching her until he took her hand in his. “A demon slayer and a musician! To think Kagome never told us she had such a beautiful and accomplished sister.”
Luna just stared at him, but she could feel the tension rising from the Slayer next to her. It was like standing next to a crackling thunderstorm with lightning bolts ready to strike. But she had nothing to worry about, Luna wasn’t about to fall for it.
Tumblr media
“Never did mention me, huh?” She reversed the gentle grip Miroku had on her hand, grabbed his wrist, and twisted it sideways; a warning. “But she did tell me about you. And if you value your hands, you’ll keep them to yourself.”
Miroku laughed nervously, “Ahahaha—ow! Th-there’s no need to be rash! I meant nothing by it!”
The thunderstorm was gone. Sango was smirking as Luna let the monk go. “Oh, I like her.”
Tumblr media
Kagome sighed, shook her head and smiled. “Welcome to the group, sis.”

The Importance of Ramen 5
I really wanted to get this chapter done in time for the friendship themed day for Inuvember. Not sure if I’ve missed it or not, I’ve totally lost track. But this chapter is all about friendship. It’s time to stage an emotional intervention, InuCrew style.
The Importance of Ramen  Ch 1  Ch 2  Ch 3  Ch 4
On FanFiction.net if you’d prefer; my name is Daisy73 over there.
Kagome opened her eyes, struggling to focus. Everything looked blurry as she fought her way to consciousness. She could hear the crackle of a fire, the occasional pop of the kindling in the flames a comforting familiar sound. She felt strong hands shifting behind her back, helping her sit up. The room suddenly tilted crazily, and she felt nauseous, sweat breaking out on her forehead. Her lips clenched shut as she felt her stomach roll. After a few moments it settled, and she leaned floppily like a rag doll against the hands and solid warmth behind her. An object appeared in front of her face. Squinting, she struggled to work out what it was, trying to get both her eyes and brain to focus.
“Kagome, you need to drink this.” She vaguely recognised Sango’s voice, although it sounded weird, like she was talking through a hollow tube. Kagome shook her head, trying to focus, and when the ringing buzzed in her ears, she wished she hadn’t.
“Wah?”, Kagome answered incoherently. She blinked her eyes rapidly, nose crinkled in frustration that she couldn’t get the room to stay still.
“Kagome, you need to drink this tea. It’s the one Kaede prescribes to combat the side effects of blood loss.” She felt gentle hands tilting her head and felt the edge of a cup against her lips. She forced herself to swallow the mouthful of warm liquid as it trickled over her tongue. It was so bitter it made her want to retch.
“That’s so gross”, Kagome muttered, shivering in revulsion and poking her tongue out of her mouth repeatedly as if in the hope that it would get rid of the taste.
“I know”, chortled a deep voice behind her. She could feel the rumble of Inuyasha’s contained laughter against her back; she must be leaning up against him. “I always tell you that, and yet you still make me drink it. You gotta learn to take your own medicine Ka-go-me”.
“Bite me, dog-boy”, Kagome grumbled, her eyes screwed tightly shut, still struggling with the mouthfuls of foul liquid that Sango was helping her to swallow. She could hear a chuckling Mirokou somewhere to her left and felt tiny comforting pats on her knee from little hands; at least Shippou wasn’t making fun of her.
“My otousan always said that the worse a medicine tasted, the faster it would cure you. You’ll feel better in no time Kagome”, comforted Shippou. Kagome snorted in amongst her efforts to gulp down the bitter liquid. Her own mother had fed her a similar fib when she was younger to get her to swallow medicine, but she wasn’t about to say anything disparaging about a memory that Shippou chose to share about his father. She did her best to smile in his direction, although it felt more like a grimace.
“Where are we?”, she asked after having finally worried down the last of the disgusting tea.
“After assisting the village head man in the matter of an evil spirit that was lurking in his storehouse”, began Mirokou, ignoring the ‘pfft’ noise coming from Sango’s direction, “he was so kind as to offer us the use of a hut they offer to visiting dignitaries”.
“You’re slipping monk”, teased Inuyasha. “No one’s been in this hut for ages. It reeks of dust and damp. I’d say somebody died in here years ago, and it hasn’t been used since.”
“No matter”, smiled Mirokou. “The use of it is free, the roof has no leaks and is keeping out the storm, and we’ve been able to use the firepit for cooking”. Kagome looked as he gestured towards the flickering fire, where a metal pot hung from chains on a tripod over the flames, its lid rattling gently over the simmering contents within.
“I should probably check the stew”, agreed Sango. She carefully lifted the lid from the pot and all of them sniffed the rich aroma appreciatively, even Kagome. Although her stomach still felt unsettled, the nauseous feeling was rapidly being replaced by a gnawing hunger.
Kagome looked around the small hut. Now that she had been sitting up for a while, she was able to pay more attention to her surroundings. She was sitting in her sleeping bag, with her back resting against Inuyasha’s chest, his longer legs stretched out either side of her. Looking down at her clothes, she realised that she was wearing a fresh clean t-shirt, and the bandage on her upper arm had been changed. Her bottom half seemed dry also, and with a slight flush of mortification, she hoped Sango had been the one to change her clothing. She felt comfortable, even though her wounds still throbbed a bit, especially the one on her thigh. She would have to get up and walk on it soon, so her leg didn’t get stiff. She couldn’t afford to slow everyone down; they needed to get back to the shard hunt tomorrow, especially since… the sudden memory of who they had met in the bamboo forest had her stiffening, and she grabbed Inuyasha’s hand that was resting on his thigh.
“Kagura! Inuyasha, have you…” Her sudden movement made her head thump, and she felt dizzy and sick again.
“Kagome, you need to eat first. You’ll get sick if you don’t”. Inuyasha’s grip on her hand was firm.
“No, no, we need to talk about Kagura; have you told everyone about what she said?!” She could feel her heart rate increasing; they needed to plan. For Kagura to come and warn them about a possible threat from Naraku it must be really bad! She felt a prickling in her scalp and a buzzing noise in her ears, and knowing it was a sign she would possibly pass out, she bent herself forwards, breathing heavily.
“Oi, Kagome, calm down!” Inuyasha’s warm hand on her back was soothing; she could feel Shippou hugging her feet through the sleeping bag. His anxious jittery movements made her realise that she was frightening the little fox kit, so she forced herself to take deep breaths until she felt less wobbly.
“Sorry everyone”, she said more calmly, sitting herself up gradually. “I just suddenly remembered, and it made me freak out a bit.” She bit her lip at the concerned look that passed between Mirokou and Sango. Everyone had enough to worry about without adding her to the list. The whole reason she was pushing her training was so that they didn’t have to worry about her anymore. She sat up straight and plastered a smile on her face. “I’m good now.”
Sango approached Kagome with a tin mug full of thick stew; meat and vegetables flooded with thick gravy. She looked from the mug back up to Sango, and down to the stew again.
“Wow, how long was I asleep?!”
“Coupla hours. Now, eat. I didn’t go hunting rabbits in the rain for you to turn your nose up at it”, Inuyasha rumbled grumpily. He shuffled himself backwards, so he was leaning against the wall of the hut, then pulled on the sleeping bag until he dragged both it and her over to lean on him again. “Eat wench! Or do I have ta get Sango to feed ya like a pup?!”
Sango giggled at Kagome’s disgruntled expression as she served out stew for the rest of them. The little hut was silent for a while, apart from the crackling of the fire and distant rumbling of thunder, as everyone enjoyed their dinner and then had second helpings of the rabbit stew.
Kagome was the last to put down her empty mug with a satisfied sigh. Shippou and Kirara were already asleep, Shippou starfished on a blanket near the dying fire, his small rounded belly rising and falling accompanied by tiny snuffling snores. Kirara was tucked into his side, her twin tails resting primly over her eyes and nose. Mirokou and Sango were exchanging cheerful banter while they tidied the cooking equipment away, and Inuyasha seemed to be happy to stay silent behind her, Tessaiga propped against his shoulder.
Her belly now pleasantly full, Kagome didn’t feel dizzy anymore. In fact, apart from still feeling a little tired and the throbbing of the wound in her thigh, her body was feeling pretty good. What a shame that her brain continued going into overdrive. She hadn’t been awake for the entire conversation between Inuyasha and Kagura; had only woken when she felt him hunch over her and growl protectively. They needed to discuss and analyse what Kagura’s message might mean. Was it a trap? Was Kagura trying to divert their focus from Naraku by hinting at a fictional foe? Or was she trying to be their ally in her own roundabout way. She twisted her hands together in her lap nervously as her thoughts bounced around, the worried look shared between Mirokou, Sango and Inuyasha going totally unnoticed.
Mirokou cleared his throat. “Kagome”, he began carefully, trying to get her attention.
“Mmm?”
“I… that is, we”, he continued as he gestured to include Sango and Inuyasha, “can’t help but notice that lately your mood seems a little…” He faltered as Kagome narrowed her eyes at him, but continued bravely, “tense.”
Kagome snorted. “Ya think?”, she mumbled, eyeing him intently. “In case you hadn’t noticed Mirokou, these are quite stressful times. They don’t call this time period the Sengoku Jidai for nothing.”
Mirokou nodded. “Yes, that is quite true. But, if you’ll forgive me for pointing it out, there seems to have been a definite increase in the intensity of your emotions lately.”
“We’re worried about you Kagome”, added Sango. “Inuyasha said that you haven’t been resting properly when you return to the future to attend school.”
Kagome delivered a swift elbow to the fire rat covered ribs behind her. “Oi!”, Inuyasha protested, grabbing the uninjured arm that delivered the blow, “it’s for your own good, stupid! When you go back to the shrine, whaddya think everyone else does. They stay at Kaede’s and get some sleep and relax. They don’t spend hours and hours training on top of schoolwork and shrine stuff without sleeping!”
“You don’t understand…”
Sango knelt beside her and held Kagome’s twisting fingers gently in her own. “We understand better than you might think Kagome. Do you think I became a taijiya overnight? That Mirokou learned to wield his shakujo and his abilities as a monk without patience and practice. That Inuyasha was born knowing how to deliver a sankon tessou with his claws?”
Kagome’s bottom lip trembled at the kind look on Sango’s face. “But that’s why I have to train harder. I can never catch up. You’re already so good at this, all of you. I just get in the way most of the time. You waste time rescuing me when we should be chasing jewel shards. Demons target me because they can sense I’m the weakest in the group.”
“Bullshit”, growled Inuyasha behind her, dropping his head to rest on top of hers and wrapping an arm around her waist. “That’s crap Kagome, and you know it. Demons target you because you’re the one carrying the fucking jewel shards, no other reason. And who said you needed to catch up. We’ve already talked about this. I said that I would always be around to punch the fuckers first, remember?”
“But what if you’re not?”, whispered Kagome.
“I believe I also said that we could ask Sango for help to give you some pointers on self-defence, if you wanted. That didn’t mean work yourself until you were half dead. Kagome, you’re doing too much. You’re gonna burn out, and then where will we be?”
“Minus a shard detector”, sighed Kagome.
A look of exasperation passed across Mirokou’s usually calm face. “Kagome, I am totally supportive of your will to improve your abilities, but this must stop. You are more than a shard detector to us. You are our comrade, our friend, and it is painful for us to watch you struggling like this.” His face softened. “I sense there is more to this than just a need to be able to defend yourself.”
Kagome looked from Mirokou’s calm smile to Sango’s kind expression. Inuyasha pulled her against him firmly; she could feel his steady heartbeat pulsing against her back. She knew that they weren’t going to leave this alone, that they would keep pushing gently until they got an answer. She looked down at her hands, still clasped within Sango’s.
“I have to improve, to get better, because this whole mess is my fault. I’m the one that shattered the jewel. I’m the one who spilled that evil far and wide. Every time a village gets taken down by a demon with a jewel shard, that’s my fault. Every innocent child that gets killed is my fault. I have to be faster, contain the bloodshed, stop this before more families are broken apart.”
Sango stared at Kagome in dismay, letting go of her hands. “But Kagome, how can you think that? It’s Naraku’s fault!”
Kagome kept her gaze lowered, her brown eyes clouded by tears. “Not all these demons are given shards by Naraku. Not all of it is his fault. I’m the one who brought the stone back to this time. I’m the one who shattered it. It’s my responsibility.” A low growl behind Kagome hardly gave her a warning before she was suddenly spun around by strong hands to look into Inuyasha’s scowling face.
“Wench, did you create the jewel? Did you ask to be reborn with it? Did you make yourself come back 500 years to the past?”
“No, but…”
“Then it’s not your fault stupid.” Inuyasha glared at her in frustration. “Fuck, Kagome, if I’d known that this was the sort of rubbish filling up your head, I would made you talk about this months ago.” He grasped her smaller hands in his, shaking her hands gently at every word to emphasise them. “You need to let this go. It’s not helpin’ you get better, it’s eatin’ you alive. You wanna turn this into a guilt competition, all of us could probably trump you with stuff we’ve done in the past.”
Sango murmured her agreement. “Kagome, the past doesn’t matter now. We need to keep our heads in the present, otherwise we won’t work together well as a team.”
“But if I hadn’t split the jewel…”
Mirokou touched her shoulder to get her attention. “Kagome, let me propose an alternative for you to consider. Imagine if Naraku had retrieved the whole jewel at the beginning, before you met the rest of us, before you had got to know Inuyasha better and began training with Kaede. Naraku would have been unstoppable. The world as we know it would have been covered in darkness already, with countless lives lost. You shattering the jewel, mistake though it was, has given us a real chance of defeating him.”
Sango embraced her shoulders gently. “I could never regret meeting you Kagome. In my heart you are like a younger sister to me. We have been through so much together and are likely to go through much more.”
Kagome burst into tears. Today had just been too much. Sango continued to hug her shoulders, Mirokou patted her back gently, and Inuyasha rubbed his thumbs comfortingly against her hands.
“You are my family”, sobbed Kagome. “Sango, you are like a sister to me too.” She breathed in shakily. “Mirokou, you’re like an older brother, one I need to warn my girl friends about”. She giggled shakily at Sango’s snort of laughter and Mirokou’s mock aggrieved expression at her comment. She smiled tearily at the small pair snoring by the fire. “Shippou is like a baby brother and son combined, Kirara is a friend I can always count on, and Inuyasha, you…” She looked up at the amber eyes, still focused on her with concern. “You… are…” She couldn’t stop the blush that rose in her cheeks, and could only gaze into his eyes, hoping he could guess at what she couldn’t bring herself to say when they had an audience. She watched the colour rise in his own cheeks as he continued to hold her hands and return her meaningful look.
“Yeah, wench. Same”, he replied softly.
Mirokou coughed behind them, and the spell was broken. Inuyasha dropped her hands, tucking his own back in his sleeves, turning his gaze up to the roof of the hut. Sango gave Kagome’s shoulders a conspiratorial squeeze, which Kagome chose to ignore.
After a few moments, Inuyasha looked back at Kagome with a fanged grin, now that she was calmer. “Your mother said as much, ya know. That you were trying so hard because you thought of us as family.”
Kagome sighed. “You already have so much pain to bear, between the three of you. That’s why I didn’t want to add mine to it.”
Sango smiled at her. “Well, now I hope you know better. When you’ve recovered from your injuries, I’m hopeful that you will show me the self defence techniques that you’ve been learning in the future. I am always interested in adding to my range of attack and defence. Perhaps we could spar together, now and then, when we stop for breaks.”
“And if you would permit me, perhaps we could combine our skills to work on building defensive barriers together”, added Mirokou. “Kaede and I have done so in the past, and it makes sense to add this to our abilities in pursuit of Naraku.”
Kagome smiled at both of them, wiping away the tears with her good arm. “You guys are the best”, she beamed at them.
“So ya know what that means, wench.” Kagome turned her face forward to look at Inuyasha, perplexed. “When you go back to the shrine, just do ya schoolwork. We can work on the other stuff while you’re here.”
“What about my archery practice?”
“I’ll just paint a bullseye on Shippou – I’m sure you’ll get faster results practicing on a moving target”. Inuyasha gave her a toothy grin as Kagome swatted him hard on the arm. “Okay, okay, you can practice a bit. But ya gotta promise me you’ll sleep.” His face grew more serious. “I mean it wench; I can get away with it, but humans gotta sleep. You got hurt today, and I don’t want that to happen again because you’re too tired to pay attention.”
“Okay”, she smiled. Kagome yawned, taking herself by surprise. “Are we going to discuss Kagura’s warning?”
“Tomorrow, after you’ve had a good night’s sleep, and I’ve checked your wounds again”, answered Sango. “And after you’ve eaten breakfast and drunk some more tea”, giggling at Kagome’s groan of dismay.
“Don’t wanna”, she pouted, as everyone made ready to get to sleep.
“What’s that thing you say to Souta? Sucks to be you!” chuckled Inuyasha. She glared at him before moving in her sleeping bag, ready to crawl away from him closer to the fire. When his arm pulled gently on her hand, she looked at him in surprise.
“You could stay here, with me.” Kagome looked at him, open mouthed. He flushed, suddenly looking past her, to the fire. “Uh, I mean, you shouldn’t be moving around on that leg. It took Sango a while to get it to stop bleeding when we finally got here, and I don’t want you to feel sick again.” They both chose to ignore Mirokou and Sango snickering in the background.
“Okay”, she agreed with a smile. Inuyasha shifted so that his legs were out straight and helped her snuggle down so her head lay pillowed on his thighs. Her thoughts drifted back to the night she had done the same for him, the first time she had discovered his human night fighting against the spider head demons. The night he had told her that she smelt nice.
“Kagome”, Inuyasha began uncertainly, “do you feel… better… about what was worrying you? About the jewel I mean?”
Kagome sighed. “Yes and no”, she answered. “I still feel responsible for shattering the jewel”, she looked up at Inuyasha’s face as he grunted in annoyance, “but, I feel better about having shared it with everyone. I know we all have different reasons for wanting to defeat Naraku and get rid of the Shikon jewel, but if we all work together, I know we can do it.”
“Alright, go to sleep wench.”
Kagome yawned again and closed her eyes. The storm had died down, and she could hear gentle rain pattering on the thatched roof above. Mirokou poured water on the last embers in the fire pit, and the hut became dark, lit only by faint shafts of moonlight filtering in through the reed mat that covered the doorway.
As she heard Sango and Mirokou’s breathing become more regular as they slipped into sleep, Kagome felt Inuyasha’s clawed fingers carding through her long hair, hesitantly at first, and then as she made no attempt to stop him, more firmly, scratching against her scalp lightly. Kagome smiled blissfully against her hakama covered pillow, rubbing her cheek against the rough fabric. She dared a small kiss to Inuyasha’s thigh before she drifted into sleep, not quite sure if she had imagined Inuyasha’s whisper, “Sweet dreams, my Kagome.”

Just One of Those Things
The next chapter of Jar of Hearts is almost ready - just need to do a little bit of spit and polish on it. In the meantime, have this small offering of very early InuKag, before Shippou, Miroku, Sango and Kirrara joined the crew.
You can also read it here in my Inukag series Dog Tails on AO3 if you prefer.
“C’mon woman, stop draggin’ your heels!”
Kagome pouted at Inuyasha as he glanced over his shoulder at her, unable to stifle her wide yawn. Blearily, she rubbed her eyes, watching him bounding forward again through the cedar trees to sniff out the trail up ahead. He kept pausing every now and then to glance back at her, his expression puzzled.
“Yeah yeah, I’m coming”, grumbled Kagome, shrugging the heavy backpack on her shoulders to shift its weight and almost doing a face plant when she tripped over a stick.
For some reason today, everything felt twice as difficult. She’d woken up with a headache, and she felt like she was swimming against the tide, her movements clumsy and awkward. She didn’t feel ill exactly, but definitely not well – her stomach felt a little off and the area below it felt weird, like she’d overstretched some muscles maybe.
She’d almost caught up with Inuyasha when a sudden warm trickling feeling between her legs made her halt and freeze.
Oh. Oh no. Oh no no no. This couldn’t be happening. Not out here.
She’d only had it once before, a couple of months ago, and Mama said that they took some time to get regular. And now here she was, out in the middle of nowhere; no Mama, no toilet, alone with a boy, one she had only known for a little over a month… and she had her period.
But maybe she was wrong? Maybe that wasn’t what this was –maybe it was just that other thing, the discharge stuff she got occasionally, just a bit more than usual? Or maybe she was just exceptionally sweaty or something?
Quickly moving off the path Inuyasha was following and heading alone into the forest, she jogged over to the largest tree she could find and hid behind it, flipping up her skirt to check her underwear.
Please let me be wrong. Please, please, please. Oh. Oh no.
“Hey Kagome, what the fuck do ya think you’re-“
“Don’t come back here!” she screeched, squatting down and putting her hands over her head, as if it would hide her from his view.
“Fucking hell, don’t scream at me! If ya need to stop to take a dump, just tell me first, all right?”
She glanced around, her heart beating double time. She couldn’t see Inuyasha anywhere close by, but she heard a rustle of leaves as he sat himself down on the ground a little way away, muttering darkly to himself. Probably nothing complimentary towards her, but at least he wasn’t coming any closer.
Take a deep breath Kagome, you can do this.
Mama had given her a little bag of pads and painkillers and told her to keep it in her bag in case of emergencies. She could totally handle this. She was fifteen now. If she could battle youkai and search for the shikon jewel shards with Inuyasha, surely she could handle having her period when she wasn’t home. It would be fine, no worries.
Except the little bag wasn’t there.
Frantically she dumped everything out of her backpack – first aid kit, schoolbooks, pyjamas, a few spare pairs of underwear and a bra, Inuyasha’s ninja snacks, her pencil case, hairbrush, toothpaste and toothbrush, shampoo and soap and a roll of toilet paper… but no little bag.
And then she remembered. She’d had a headache last time she was studying at home, and rather than going downstairs to the bathroom, she’d taken the little bag out of her backpack to get some of the tablets. And she hadn’t put the bag back in.
She felt another little trickle down below and couldn’t stop the tears coming. She’d messed up. She’d forgotten to plan for this. How could she forget? What was she meant to do now? Her underpants would be dirty.
She felt like a toddler that hadn’t made it to the toilet on time and a wave of embarrassment washed over her. She couldn’t let Inuyasha find out that she’d made a mess of herself. He’d laugh at her and tease her, call her stupid. She scrubbed at her face as more tears came.
“Hey Kagome, you okay?”
Inuyasha’s tone was still gruff, but his voice was much softer.
“Um”, she hiccuped, “just give me a minute.”
Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm down. She needed to be rational. She had toilet paper and clean underpants, that was the obvious solution for the moment.
Quickly glancing around to make sure Inuyasha wasn’t watching her, she took off her soiled underpants and wrapped them up in the plastic bag she used for her dirty laundry, pushing it to the bottom of her backpack, then put on a new pair, choosing the firmest ones so that the thickly wadded up piece of toilet paper doing duty as a pad would stay put. It was uncomfortable, but necessary.
She piled everything back into her backpack and sat down gingerly, leaning back against the tree. This was okay for the moment. But it probably wouldn’t last for the days that this was likely to continue – she would run out of toilet paper. And it wasn’t like she could use leaves or anything. At a pinch she could probably cut up her pyjamas, maybe? Would that work?
Her head thumped, and the tight cramping feeling below her stomach intensified. If only Mama were here. But she was a long way away, five hundred years into the future. All the way back home.
What if she asked Inuyasha to take her home? This was a natural thing, surely he couldn’t get mad at her for something that wasn’t her fault. But how would you start a conversation like that? Did he even know about periods? And he hated when she went home. This was going to cause an argument, she just knew it. Her head thumped harder, the more she tried to think. Oh kami, what should she do?
“Hey uh, Kagome? You… you got that, uh, woman thing, huh?” he stammered, his voice oozing with embarrassment from his spot over behind the bushes. “It’s, uh, it’s okay, take your time. Do you want me to go further away?”
Oh. Oh kami, he could smell her. He already knew. Well, that settled it. She would just stay here. Stay here and never come out from behind this tree ever again. Just curl up and die of embarrassment.
She couldn’t help the small whimper that left her. Just when they were beginning to be closer, just when Inuyasha had begun trusting her to fight alongside him. And then this had to happen. This would prove to him that she was just useless cargo, instead of being worthy to gather the jewel shards with him.
“Oi, don’t cry! Is it makin’ ya feel bad?“
“Inuyasha, I’m so sorry!” she sniffed. “It’s only the second time this has happened and I don’t have any of the things in my backpack I would usually use in my time. I’m so stupid!”
“Kagome, hey. Don’t-“
“I should have known this might happen, I should have planned better. How can you trust me to help fix things with the Shikon jewel if I can’t even take care of myself!” she sobbed, dropping her head to her knees and hugging her legs.
A few moments later she felt him sit beside her, not quite touching, but close enough to feel his body heat. His hand patted her on the top of her head, a little heavily, but she could tell he meant it to be comforting.
“Ya are bein’ stupid, but not for the reason you think.”
Sniffing, she raised her tearful face to his, wiping away her tears. He wasn’t looking directly at her, his gaze directed off towards the trees in front of them. His cheeks were a little pink, but his face was split by his trademark cocky grin.
“There, much better. That’s the Kagome I know. So, what do ya need?”
“Could... could you take me home? Not for a long time”, she quickly added, “just long enough to get some supplies, and then we can head off again?”
“Hmmm… I could do that”, he rumbled, glancing sideways at her. “But it’s gonna cost ya.”
“Cost me?” Kagome asked hesitantly.
“We’re outta the dried crunchy things.”
“The potato chips? Sure, we can get more chips. I’m sure Mama will have some in the pantry. Or if we don’t have them, I can go buy some.” She almost laughed in relief.
“And make sure you take some medicine, I can tell you’re not feelin’ well. Can’t have you slackin’ on the job.”
“Okay.”
He moved to crouch down in front of her.
“Well, what are ya waitin’ for. This way’s faster. I can get you home before sunset this way. And then we can eat at your house. In fact we may as well stay overnight an’ start fresh in the morning.”
Putting on the backpack, Kagome very carefully positioned herself on Inuyasha’s back, not wanting the makeshift pad in her underpants to shift around too much.
“Ya good?”
“Yeah.”
“Tell me if ya need to stop again okay?”
“Okay. Thank you for being so understanding Inuyasha”, she said sincerely.
He gave an embarrassed cough.
“Yeah well, everyone has times that they’re not feeling their best. It’s not your fault. It’s just one a those things. Besides, maybe your mother will be makin’ steak for dinner.”
And before she could reply they were off, bounding through the tree tops in a direct line to the well.

Vent post. I just have? So Many Feelings about Secret of the Cursed Mask.
I just? It was an experience of sorts for me during my middleschool days? I invested so many evenings into this game, grinding those levels, catching all the interval events I could grab for each character. I loved this game so much as a youth.
Here’s the thing, and I have / will always say this, Takahashi-sensei did not have to go as hard as she did to write a Bandai cash-grab game that’s not even canonical to the main series? But she totally fucking did it.
Kururugi is hardly the Mary/Gary Sue that people make either of them out to be? Rather, Takahashi-sensei succeeded, I think, in making a rather grounded and relatable character that doesn’t impose terribly in the source content? And the interesting way she handled it was to make them self-aware that they were intruding on the InuCrew’s story.
Like? So much of their anxiety towards the second half of the game was just confronting the thought “Hey, you don’t belong here.” and it’s tackled in such a way as to make it relatable from a social and interpersonal standpoint. They’re so afraid of both the rejection and of troubling the cast with their own personal problems, and I feel like that’s a fear that’s prevalent in the dark heart of all of us. The sheer insecurity of being separate beings who are doomed to misunderstand each other or alienate ourselves as a means of self-defence.
Kururugi is a character I really appreciate, not really as such for being an avatar of the player’s own whims? But because they’re a character of their own right with their own sort of desires and fears that simply come off as being commonly relatable, I think. It’s less like piloting them, as much as it is pushing them to achieve our aligned goals, by the way I interpret them...

Talking to the Moon v. w/ @dianran
It follows much of original canon except Sango does not come across the Inucrew until much later.
Hikaru, born of Mulan and Hanzo and family to Jesse, is a demon; a dragon specifically who is the one who intervenes Sango attempting to kill Kohaku during Naraku’s possession.
It was then he vowed to help her save her brother, be it his own personal feelings or not, this did not please his family from Hanamura of whom he did not even express his leaving to.
There is obvious tension and conflicted feelings between the two that eventually provoke Sango to send Hikaru away for her to deal with her own problems. He does so and there is a year separation of the two, Naraku is dead, Kohaku is free to live his life, and Sango is a for hire slayer once again...
Not expecting to be sent for by the great Phoenix Demoness Mulan herself.

Role models : The InuCrew for sure. Just constantly impressed with their skill and demeanor.
Sexual orientation : Demisexual (gender doesn’t really play a part? Maybe inspires some questioning on his part)
Thoughts on marriage/kids : Always sort of a faraway and abstract thought. Kind of worries he won’t find anyone, or probably too afraid to really start a family as he gets older.

|> STUDY  :  Michiru Kururugi
۝  BASICS
IS YOUR MUSE TALL  /  SHORT  /  AVERAGE? About smaller average-ish height, 5′5″ or so? If he seems smaller, it might have to do with his posture.
ARE THEY OKAY WITH THEIR HEIGHT? I don’t suppose he thinks about it often? Only when he’s put in a situation that forces him to compare his height to others.
WHAT’S THEIR HAIR LIKE? Short, bit thick and layered. It grows a little slowly, so he doesn’t get it cut as often as most.
DO THEY SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THEIR HAIR  /  GROOMING? I think he likes to look presentable and feel hygienic. Other than some gel, I don’t think he thinks too much on it.
DOES YOUR MUSE CARE ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCE  /  WHAT OTHERS THINK?  For sure he does, but in a matter of his appearance, I think he’s convinced himself he’s rather unremarkable and there’s not much he can do about that. He tries to focus on being presentable.
۝  PREFERENCES
INDOORS OR OUTDOORS? Outdoors, for sure.
RAIN OR SUNSHINE? He loves the sun.
FOREST OR BEACH? I think he’d love both, but he has a special connection with forests.
PRECIOUS METALS OR GEMS? Neither.
FLOWERS OR PERFUMES? Flowers.
PERSONALITY OR APPEARANCE? Personality.
BEING ALONE OR BEING IN A CROWD? He doesn’t like being alone... But sometimes being in a crowd is even lonelier somehow.
ORDER OR ANARCHY? Order, but not tyranny.
PAINFUL TRUTHS OR WHITE LIES? Might depend on the situation.
SCIENCE OR MAGIC? A little of both.
PEACE OR CONFLICT? Peace.
NIGHT OR DAY? Both
DUSK OR DAWN? Both
WARMTH OR COLD? Warmth
MANY ACQUAINTANCES OR A FEW CLOSE FRIENDS? A few close friends
READING OR PLAYING A GAME? Both, when he has time.
۝  QUESTIONNAIRE
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSE’S BAD HABITS? LMAO hope ya’ll ready for a long read.
- Constantly overcompensates to impress people.
- Kind of becomes self-absorbed when he’s anxiously analyzing his interactions with people.
- Often denies himself help as not to bother anyone.
HAS YOUR MUSE LOST ANYONE CLOSE TO THEM? HOW HAS IT AFFECTED THEM?
I have to think that Kakuju’s death had a profound effect on him. This strange but kind person who’d given Michiru the means to discover his own powers, giving him the ability to help and protect his friends and fight off Naraku.
Although their story was a tragic one, Kakuju was a catalyst for the events that would lead up to Michiru meeting the inucrew and learning his true self-worth, and he’d be eternally grateful for that.
WHAT ARE SOME FOND MEMORIES YOUR MUSE HAS?
Oh, I’ll be getting into all of those moments on this blog. ^^
IS IT EASY FOR YOUR MUSE TO KILL?
Ideally, no. Of course, he and the inucrew have no problems with taking down yokai, I imagine he wouldn’t handle a situation where he’d have to kill a human would be particularly easy for him if he got pushed to that point...
WHAT’S IT LIKE WHEN YOUR MUSE BREAKS DOWN?
I don’t think it’d be out of the realm for Michiru to eventually develop anxiety attacks, if left unchecked. This would be characterized as him curling in on himself and experiencing some derealization and trouble breathing.
IS YOUR MUSE CAPABLE OF TRUSTING SOMEONE WITH THEIR LIFE?
Almost immediately, if the events of SotCM are any indication. He pretty much jumped right into battle beside him when they first met. Granted, the circumstances were more than unusual...
WHAT’S YOUR MUSE LIKE WHEN THEY’RE IN LOVE?
He’s sort of reserved with it, mostly? His love-language is mostly just spending time with the object of their affections, wanting to see them having fun, laughing and smiling. Otherwise, he’ll probably internalize his feeling as not to “trouble” the other person with them. He doesn’t wish to make things awkward, which then ends up becoming sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The idea of the Mundane!verse in that even if Michiru’s adventures with the InuCrew was a product of his imagination, the cast can still be found in said universe??
Like, give me Michiru doing a double-take because he thought he heard Inuyasha’s voice somewhere. Or stopping dead in his tracks when he caught the whiff of Kagome’s perfume and it makes him super confused!
All these little hints of his friends around him, and he thinks “Oh man, I really did damage my brain that day.” because there’s no way any of those could be real, right? They clearly had to be in his head.
Gimme the idea that maybe the cast exists in modern Tokyo, one form or another. Maybe Michiru just pulled faces from people he’s never consciously noticed until before his accident, and then becomes hyper aware of them.
Gimme instances that the crew does show up and it turns out the magic was real!
Gimme threads where Michiru’s having difficulty separating reality from imagery, and struggling to keep it together!

The Ronin
Tumblr media
Sooo, those two connected InuKag one shots Dogs don’t wear clothes and Just Smile that quite a lot of people liked have now been cleaned up, with the blocking fixed. that’s what happens when you write fics at 2am - you have people looking at things with their eyes still closed and whole articles of clothing miraculously disappearing and reappearing again
I’ve uploaded the revamped first two chapters to Fanfiction.net. You can read The Ronin here.
I’m working on part 3, where the InuCrew will go back to hand out justice -hopefully I’ll be posting it in a couple of hours (if the kids go to bed on time and I don’t fall asleep that is...)

What are some tropes that you think would suit Inukag really well?
Good morning Nonny! (well, morning where I am anyway) Hmmm. Lemme think...
Coffeeshop AU - I’ve seen one’s where Kagome is the barista and Inu is the grump who needs his caffeine hit. But I could see it around the other way. Inu running a little hole in the wall coffee shop much like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld; blatantly rude but people come back because the coffee is just so good! Everyone puts up with his bad humour because they want the coffee. Enter Kagome, who is a Nice Person, and feels the need to adjust his attitude. Actually I really like this idea - I think it could be really funny. Adding it to the pile of Things I Wanna Write When I Finally Get Myself Organised...
Body Swap - I’ve seen a few good fics with this trope. Both of them not really understanding how difficult things are for the other, before they’re made to literally walk a mile in the other’s shoes..
Baby fic / Found family - because an orphaned half breed who knows just how tough the real world can be when you’re small and all alone, and a girl who wears her heart on her sleeve and just can’t help trying to understand others would make the perfect adoptive parents. It’s basically canon - look at Shippou.
Blanket - so many opportunities for this in the Sengoku Jiddai - snow, rain, hail, sleet, falling in the lake, tumbling into the rapids - Kagome can be pretty clumsy at times. And a caring half-youkai’s not gonna let his human freeze, no matter how much he blusters about it. Also the reverse works - sorry Inuyasha, that pesky human night is handy for sooo many things.
Trapped! - not sure what else to call this one - is this a trope? You know, they’re stuck in a cave, a desert island, on a mountain, in a plane crash, with only determination, shared survival knowledge and a single blanket to make their way back to civilization. Although if you included the rest of the InuCrew, you could make it a humorous nod to Gilligan’s Island.
Soulbond - the red string of fate trope suits this pair so well! Call me a die hard romantic, but I can’t help it. Give me the sticky sweet fairy floss fluff of a soul bonded pair, brought together across the centuries. They were obviously meant to be together!
Thanks for the ask! :D
