“I will start anew”
I swear, they knew what they were doing with his design in this film and at this point I’m entirely predictable in my interests 😪

Quick question about your drawing style! Did you just use references and then draw in your own amazing style or did you study Viv’s style and then add your own flair to it? Btw love your art and definitely following you
I started out by studying Viv’s style at the very beginning to learn the characters, but after that my style evolved through a lot of different influences; vintage advertising art, inspiration from other art styles I like, experimenting with different brushes, studying anatomy and perspective, growing comfortable with the characters by drawing them over and over again, etc.
At this point I draw their base forms by muscle memory and play around with the details — like more realistic muscle mass, how I draw clothes and hair, and I’m always experimenting with color and new brushes haha.
My other interests influence a lot of my design choices. I love antique decor, several different vintage fashion eras, plants, JC Leyendecker’s work, and old landscape paintings. I kind of just inhale what I’m interested in (Pinterest is my favorite way to find inspiration for colors, clothes, etc)
Sorry for the word dump 😅 but hopefully that answers your question! ❤️

#1 and #7 for the art asks? (from @neathyingenue btw ;D)
1.When did you start creating art?
I would argue that everyone, always, and forever is making art in their own invidual unique ways. while we may have certain perspectives on various art forms, i think to create is simply part of being human.
....if u wanna know when i started drawing i would say maybe around 13/14 was when i frist started sketching? I was never one of those kids who's been 'drawing since they could hold a pencil' or whatever. I never really had any natural inflication towards drawing - as a younger kid i spent more of my creative time building structures out of popsicle sticks and whatever else i got my hands on.
When i was in my preteens/early teens, i mostly started trying to draw because my friends at the time were all doing it and i felt left out 😅😅 it was a bit of an uphill climb starting from a place with less experience and no natural talent for it.
I sorta clawed my way up from there, trying and failing since then. The real skill of an artist isn't drawing in my mind; its continuing to work at it even when you feel like it sucks.
I only really have my digital art saved back to when i was 18, but i started doing it a bit before then. And it was only in the last few years that I really feel like ive gotten a handle on how I draw, where i've ever felt solidly good about things i create, even if i still struggle with self esteem. Its funny what having a muse, so to speak, in your own characters will do for your art.
hmm. this. turned into a ramble. apologies lmao
All that is too say: For awhile and with determination to not back down from it.
7. Who are some artists that have inspired you?
So when I was 13 I was like, really really into Skyrim. Like. A lot lmao. (And one of the first things i really tried learning how to draw was my skyrim character. )
Anyway, the point of this is that my biggest art influence when i was a kid was Kayla Marquez/thewickwheat on tumblr, who used to do a lot of skyrim oc art, and was very inspirational for me learning how to draw. I feel you can probably still see remenants of that past in the way i draw now. I still seriously recommend checking her stuff out, her character design and linework is phenomoinal to me to this day.
I would say one of my current inspirations, of which im sure is no surprise, is J.C Leyendecker. Specifically in the way he draws clothing. While we obviously have quite different styles, i found our form when it comes to cloothing folds to feel somewhat similar, so i find using his stuff to be very inspirational when it comes to how i approach clothes now, especially suits and shirts.
Beyond that its like... so many artists. Honestly i'd need a whole seperate ramble of a poss just for that alone, and i've already rambled. I have hundreds of photos done by various artists i like saved and sorted across different artstyles on my computer to look at and Be Inspired By. I would say now adays i take a lot of inspiration from Edwardian and Victorian era paintings in general, as im drawing the topics of those contents quite a lot.

The other ask about college reminded me, I just brought a physical copy of superbright to my college professor, I took digital painting with him and now he's letting me sit in on his life drawing class. He did a quick flip through and he liked it! He also immediately said "yeah if you like this art get into the history, who did they learn from?" I've only been following you for 2ish years? And it's just been what's landed on my dash. But I looove your pieces, the coloring on the backgrounds versus how Leo and Takumi are drawn, and then the pieces like the mainly pink diner.
So yeah mainly wanted to say you're super cool! Things that you learned from would be neat to see but no pressure.
hi i was honestly very shocked to read that you would show this to your professor who is probably a really great artist but im glad he liked it? ???
i answered the rest of this under the cut
as far as my art history goes, i have no academic background in art so i'm just making stuff up. i think like a lot of kids I got my roots in wanting to draw like shoujo manga, particularly the big eyed round faces of the early 2000s. I would just try to copy the eyes or something. To this day I honestly don't really look at tutorials or watch speedpaints i kind of just look at finished art and try to emulate the things I like about them. It's very simplistic I think and perhaps means I don't make art that's as clean or efficient as people who actually go out and try to learn how pro artists actually draw.
i went on pixiv a lot as a teen and followed like 1000+ artists and looked at a lot of art all the time. I was really enamored by people who could draw characters and backgrounds, like fuzichoco. (this is a super weird fun fact but one of my favorite artists in like 2011-2012 who specialized in like drawing beautiful girls with beautiful backgrounds ended up getting into leokumi under a different name/account and i was their mutual! and i didnt realize this until rather recently. im too shy to share the name tho. my teen self is throttling me btw). I Really wanted to learn how to draw backgrounds so i had to go through the struggle of teaching myself perspective and later on downloading 3d software so i could see boxes on the same plane at angles lol.
When I see art I like I try to capture the essence of what it is I liked about it in a piece (maybe one time its desaturated colors, and the next its dramatically long legs, or adding blur to the foreground), and i decide if it worked out and I want to keep doing it. Some stuff i definitely continue to use is i draw upper eyelashes the way i do because of Sata (touken ranbu, feh artist) and i started drawing leo with weird non-blond hair colors because of Araki (the jjba mangaka, who often colors his characters in alternate palettes than their "canon"). Even though i think there are stuff im a bit rigid about, like i always kinda stay in the realm of anime style, I'm still trying to keep trying out stuff I see in other artists, not just even anime artists but everyone's favorite Leyendecker or Mucha, or I'll take photos of random stuff to file away as an idea. Like I have a photo of leaves my coworker collected that have a nice green to pink gradient that I took for inspiration.
As far as the diner picture goes I think to pull off that piece I needed to practice making art with less colors and also less contrast. Similar shades of pink take up most of the picture with teals being a secondary color and avoiding adding other colors in large amounts. I think the linework is doing a lot of work in that piece. I had to google a photo of a person sitting at a diner table for the perspective.
idk if this answers anything but it was fun to think about?

I have you almost at the same height as Leyendecker, Rockwell, Mignola and Tartakovsky. And get used to it because I'll never shut up about how incredibly amazing your art style is. You're my inspiration ~

Hi Nelson! Your X-men stuff is TOTALY amazing! *Press follow bottom* i saw your stuff days ago and i love your style and colors (BTW i'am x-men fan also!). 3 fan questions 1) What are the artists and films that inspire you for your style? 2) favorite X-men comic series and why? 3) always talking about the X-men: are there any memories of childhood related to the X-men?, anyway i still follow your posts see ya!
Hi there! Thanks very much. That’s really nice of you to reach out! I appreciate your kindness. Always happy to talk with other X-Men fans :D Happy to answer your questions:
1) Years of reading comics inspire my style but I am also a big fan of animation & live-action visuals. Comics artists include Alan Davis, Carlos Pacheco, Bill Sienkiewicz, Romita Jr. & Art Art Adams for starters. I love classic illustrators like NC Wyeth, Leyendecker, & Dean Cornwell. I love animation/animated films & movies like Bladerunner, Tron, Matrix, & anything with a strong visual style is always inspiring.
2) The New Mutants & 80s X-Men are hands down my favorites because the stories were high stakes, but the characters felt so unique and real. But comics continue to excite, so that’s good!
3) Favorite X-Men childhood memories? Probably my first introduction to the X-Men was Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends. Up to that point the Superfriends were the most colorful superheroes I’d known, X-Men took it to a whole new level! I fell in love.
Thanks so much for asking and following. I appreciate it! I haven’t been too active lately but that should change soon. :) Talk to you soon!
