I have zero explanation for this other than my brain latched onto a line from @thewolvesof1998’s snippet and spun it in a vastly different direction. So, uh, bon appetit 😘
Excitement and apprehension simmer under his skin. Twin currents spiraling together in an intricate dance along every nerve as he reaches for the dresser drawer.
For peace of mind, he spares a glance at his locked bedroom door to ensure it hasn’t slipped loose. He’s half tempted to walk across the room and physically check the lock. But that will only waste time he’s not sure he has. Christopher doesn’t need him as much these days but that doesn’t mean zero chance of intrusion. Especially if his son discovers a locked door.
Eddie could wait until tonight, after Chris is in bed, but it’s not a viable option. For all the waiting Eddie’s done, patiently holding back until the right moment, he decided he couldn’t anymore today. Not after continuously getting distracted while making a store list and doing laundry. Accidentally putting fabric softener in the wrong dispenser was the last straw.
He slides the drawer open and just looks at the neatly folded piles of socks and underwear concealing what he’s actually there for. Anxiety overpowers anticipation, making his heart beat faster and louder. As he pushes past it, thumbing through a stack of boxer briefs, a voice that sounds suspiciously like the priest from his childhood church shouts about sin and immorality. The voice becomes sharper when Eddie’s fingertips land on a distinctly different fabric.
Soft cotton is replaced by patterned lace. Still gentle, sliding between the pads of his thumb and pointer finger, but slightly rougher. The kind of delicate abrasion that feels pleasant against bare skin, like scratching an itch.
He continues to roll the material, not yet allowing himself to bring it into view. It was only a few days ago that he was able to get to this point. To touch and acknowledge the existence of the black cheeky shorts that he hid there two weeks before. It’s enough for now.

I kind of hate that, as a historian, my knowledge bank is composed of two very contrasting things:
genocide/ethnic cleansing
historical textiles and fashion
like great, I can tell you about when x tried to kill a bunch of people or you can have me look at your favorite dumbass’ outfit and i can tell you all about a bunch of crazy little details you probably have no clue even existed
#ooc#[ like raphael’s outfit is interesting to me for example ]#[ because it looks like it would high renaissance and it’s not ]#[ his outfit is from late medieval spanish aristocrat fashion ]#[ worn during the formative years of the inquisition ]#[ the details on his sleeves are called guarding and they came into fashion in the last two decades of the 1400’s ]#[ they’re meant to be evocative of wartime mending by soldiers having to stitch their uniforms back into serviceable condition ]#[ high class nobles slashed their garments to evoke the look and then sewed in new pieces ]#[ this is how passementerie got started which is where lace-making got its start ]#[ most often as panel pieces to insert for guards and then later as their own separate thing ]#[ another fun detail: that was a very pivotal time in spanish history ]#[ the fashion would peak around the reign of joanna of castile ]#[ her son would go on to become not only a king of spain but the holy roman emperor ]#[ textiles: lot of fun nuances can be put into characters without having to say a thing ]

taking a break from my big crochet project to make a blanket for a cousin’s baby blessing and it’s working up sooooo fast I forgot how QUICKLY crochet works up when you’re not doing planned pooling
#it’s very simple just half double crochet through the back 2 loops for the alternating extra stitch stripe#with a self striping yarn yellow -> pink -> indigo blue -> power blue -> repeat#and in the middle of the yellow I’m breaking for a short little lace insert of double crochet 2 chain 1 for little squares#that’s in a tonal light grey / off white / eggshell / blush sand sort of variegation#i like a variegated off-white for baby pieces bc it offers a softer contrast to baby pastels than a Bright White#and it also handles stains wayyy better#if you’re making a baby piece with True White and it isn’t a BLEACHABLE fiber fr what is wrong with you#baby WILL stain it you are not winning.#anyway this is a low effort project bc I talk to this cousin once every MAYBE two years at a family function

No. 2. — Carré en guipure sur filet (Modèle de Mme Marchais, 46, rue de Clichy). Après avoir fait voire carré, montez-le sur un cadre en fil de laiton ou sur un métier, a fin de bien le tendre, ce qui facilite le travail et en fait la régularité. Pour broder le filet, prenez du fil à dentelle, bien brillant, puis commencez à faire tous les contours au point de reprise, ensuite remplissez tous les motifs au point de toile.
Ce joli carré peut servir comme entre-deux de rideaux ou peut encore orner le milieu d'une tétiere, coussin, etc.
No. 2. — Square in guipure on netting (Model by Mme Marchais, 46, rue de Clichy). After making even square, mount it on a brass wire frame or on a loom, in order to stretch it well, which facilitates the work and makes it regular. To embroider the net, take very shiny lace thread, then start making all the outlines with the darning point, then fill in all the patterns with the canvas point.
This pretty square can be used as a curtain insertion or can even adorn the middle of a headrest, cushion, etc.
