i think one of my big goals for programming would be to create functional social networks. ive already taught myself the groundwork for a making a basic messageboard a la pre-4-chan sites in japan.

unrelated to my programming skill, i feel like we should bring back forums, but still keep the rapid nature that i like about twitter.

i love that on smth like twitter i can just say my thoughts into the void an someone might enjoy them. i also like the old internet style of forums and i 1000% apriciate those who answer my obscure forums, especially those on the casio calculator forums so i could learn how to program my casio calculator, but thats a story for a different time

maybe for this new twitter x forum design strategy we could rewrite the hyper-contained nature of forum threads and topics and make them more fluid, maybe containing them to topics via hashtags. ofc things like html tag-esc styles to posts, i especially like the way discord does it, however i use *(insert thing here)* to emphasize things, and italicising it is not what i mean, so that could be improved upon.

also the character count can be limited because yea. like does anyone really like that? its either a non existant problem or something to break your pace while writing something big and important, in an almost innapropriate-for-the-situation manner.

I also feel like message boards and oekaki boards should be brought back, i think they could be very fun, but we (the designers/creators of the sites) would need to be careful to avoid a situation to the tschernobyl-nuclear-reaction-site-ish nature of 4chan and whatever happened to 8chan (i think) that got it to be destroyed because of hyper-harmful political effects (if i remember correctly)

for a long time now ive also envisioned a social network that revolves around music, almost like an imageboard but with mp3 files.

[unfortunately for audiophiles] mp3 files would be the best option considering theyre much less limited than midi, but arent as heavy as wav or flacc files. maybe ogg files would be a better choice considering their universal nature, but does every browser support it?

also being able to comment and like posts would be mandatory, and maybe an in-browser lightweight audio file editor could be added for things like sneak peeks or possibly to create a culture of remixes like nightcore, chopping up songs, slowed versions, fast versions, a=432 versions, extended mixes, etc.

also, my most favorite idea for music yet, GIF ALBUM COVERS! i dont care how you pronounce it (seriously why is this still a thing), but i feel like it would be super cool to have gif album covers. some problems for looking in the future would be the limited color nature of some gif formats, and loading times, but regardless its still a cool idea. think of the possibilities! ofc theres basic things like simple moving images or short animations or color changes, but you could also have different versions of album covers because one image just doesnt do the trick, you could have album covers that change the language for more international understanding, you could have animations that sync to the beat of the song, the possibilities are endless

although, there is one end. file sizes for both covers and songs alike would be needed. maybe some of the remixes i suggested earlier could have a json file that adds those changes instead of an entirely new mp3 file, similar to sheet music, although there would need to be a quick way to create those effects on the fly. I also really dont want to end up in the pitfall that most modern websites end up in, where they sacrifice efficient web browsing for instead taking your personal information in inneficient javascript and making it take a whole half-hour to scroll through a simple webpage. i know that in earlier internet days, when gifs were all the rage, webpages would get really slow from all of the animations that were playing, and this is still an issue till this day

Irina would give her heart and soul to hunt a snow bear. The massive, ancient beings live only on the farthest reaches of the endless snows, near to the end of the world—so when she finds one in her father’s favorite valley, hunting for game before winter sets in, she drags her brother up a tree to wait it out. Except the bear isn’t alone; she has cubs, and when Irina kills one of them, she has trespassed against one of the oldest laws of nature.

She’s punished for her crime when the Prince of Always Night, ruler of the endless snows, snatches her brother from her side and into the dark. But he doesn’t expect Irina to leash up her dogs and follow after him. When she comes knocking at his door, there’s little he can do but hope this heartless hunter is willing to change—or else she and her brother will be stuck on the snow until the end of time.

IRINA LIEVNA || The eldest child of Liev Sun-wolf, champion of the northern queen. Irina was raised a hunter on the edge of the endless snows. Like everyone else in the village, she grew up listening to Great-Grandmother talk about ghosts and curses and princes, but she doesn’t put any stock in things like that. She has a tense relationship with her father’s wife; the only thing they agree on is that Fedya’s safety comes first. So when Fedya is stolen away by a stranger who knows her name, Irina has to follow, even when it starts to look like she’s fallen head-first into one of Great-Grandmother’s tales.

THE PRINCE OF ALWAYS NIGHT || The only child of the Queen of Always Sun and her long-imprisoned husband, the King in the Mountain. He was born to guard the end of the world where it drops off into the nothingness beyond. That he does, and for the six months of the year that only the moon shines on the snow, he hosts a court of souls in his palace, allowing them a place to rest and live once more. He hasn’t had a living guest in nearly a century—so when Irina stumbles into his court, demanding her brother’s safe return, he’d rather like to keep her for a bit. Not least because it would annoy his mother to no end.

FEDYA LIEVSYN || Irina’s younger half-brother, the only child of Liev Sun-wolf and his wife, the green-witch Sonya. Fedya inherited his mother’s gift of magic, his life intrinsically interwoven with every other life around him; he has the sort of magic that changes the world, slowly, but surely. His sister brings him on hunts because he can tell where living things are, and as much as he despises using his gift for that, it helps them live through the winter. But when Irina gets him cursed, he is done. He’s going to give her a piece of his mind—just as soon as she gets him back in human skin. It’s kind of hard to argue as a bear.

What is WordPress?

It is a free and open source content management system (CMS) based on PHP ad MySQL.(1). It can be installed on a web server, which either is part of an internet hosting service or is a network host itself. It is very versatile and is full of free and paid themes and plugins.

It is turned to by many new start up’s, business owners and entrepreneurs as an easy to use platform and many have gone on to produce workable websites and blogs, it can, however, be daunting to some if they are unsure of the basics. I myself have built websites using WordPress for business owners but have noticed once built, some are never updated or enhanced.

This is what you will see after login, your dashboard may be a different colour, but this doesn’t matter. You can change the colour of your dashboard in your user profile.

The table below shows all the dashboard functions which you will be able to work through and keep as a reference tool.  I hope as you familiarise yourself with each icon it will enable you to understand your WordPress dashboard a little more and make it less threatening and hopefully give you the confidence to perhaps move your website forward. Depending on your settings and theme you may be able to create slideshows, galleries and showcase images. You will also need to add Alt tags to all media images/videos to help with SEO PAGES – Drop down menu includes All pages and Add New This is where you can create a new page or find a page to edit. COMMENTS This is where external comments are stored. If you have a Spam blocker such as Askimet it will await your approval before publishing the comments to your site. FEEDBACK This again is where people can comment on your site and it is ideal if you have a spam blocker CONTACT – Drop down menu includes Contact Forms, Add New and Integration (reCaptcha) This is where you can create a contact form and then copy the code for insertion on your website, maybe on a page or within a widget. ReCaptcha is a form of defence against spamming by non-human programs

DASHBOARD OPTIONS WHAT IT DOES? Appearance – Drop down menu include Themes This is where you will find your websites theme and where you can change or try out new ones. Customise This is where you can individualise your site Widgets Widgets are preset coded modules which allow you to add specific elements to your website Menus This is where you can create your menu using pages, categories or unique URL’s Header This is where you add your logo, tagline and Favicon Background If your site allows you can upload your background image here. Edit CSS This is where you can add a unique code to alter what your site looks like. Theme Options Some themes have extra individual options available and these will be here. Editor This is where you can alter the core website code. Not to be done if you are inexperienced. If you connect your site to Google Analytics you will find your Header PHP here.

DASHBOARD OPTIONS WHAT IT DOES? Plugins – Drop down menu include Add New and Editor Plugin can be seen, searched, added and removed in this section. Users – Drop down menu include All Users, Add new and Your Profile. This is where if you require someone to help you with your website, they can be added by you with a unique log in. Tools – Drop down menu include Import, Export This is where you can import a copy of your website you saved. Used in case of loss of data. You can also download a basic copy of your website. Settings – Drop down menu include General You will find your basic website information, your contact info and your role here. Writing You set your post settings here as well saving the settings for posts by email. Reading This is where you can set your post length, page displays. Discussion Set what you want to see regarding comments and emails you receive. Media Sets the image sizes, i.e. how big the various images will be. Permalinks This is where you can specify the URL of your posts and which email responds to what. Maintenance Page If you’re working on your site for any length of time uploading a maintenance page is advised. Limit Login Attempts Set how many attempts can be made to enter the website. Sharing Where you will input your social media information for when you write a post or want to share some information from your website.
