For how much Machete is described by others as off-putting, he really is a beautiful dog. Does Vasco ever tell him so? That his eyes make him look earnest, his fur the most comforting shade of white like cream, the way his ears catch light like stained glass? If someone doesn't tell him so, he'd forever think he was ugliest duckling
I think Vasco definitely tries, sincerely and often, but Machete is very reluctant to accept compliments and positive feedback. Especially if it's about something as personal and innate as his looks.
#he quietly spends a lot of time and effort trying to make himself look his best so appearances aren't a trivial thing for him#he's always very clean and neat and presentable#except on those occasions when he's soaked in blood but that's totally besides the point#white fur is kind of high maintenance any tiny bit of dirt or staining becomes an eyesore and if it dries it may be hard to remove#he bathes very frequently way more than average considering the time period#some of the outfits he wears are worth more than the combined lifetime earnings of like six generations of his family#silk was outrageously expensive and the brightest red dye came from pulverized cochineal insects that had to be imported from America#which had been colonized less than a century ago so those tiny little cactus bugs were really troublesome to get and the demand was huge#he doesn't quite have the nerve to wear perfume despite it's widespread popularity at the time#but he makes sure the smell of frankincense burned during church services sticks to his fur and clothes#in general when you spend your entire life around strict emotionally congested highly religious men#you might not end up developing a very healthy self-esteem or body image#once you've internalized that sense of inferiority it's hard to unlearn it#he's so thirsty for approval and praise but when he receives some he immediately gets uncomfortable and distrustful and vaguely angry#he absolutely struggles to compliment people back as well at least on any meaningful and personal level so there's that#answered#anonymous#Machete

maybe im wrong and too soft or something but I just feel like if we can extend a bit of kindness to insects, one of the most widely hated groupings of living things, then I think we should. so many species of insects go extinct and people CHEER when they hear that. that was a whole species of a living thing that had entire lives that they lived, and you are cheering ???? you are celebrating that a living thing is now never going to exist ever again??? just because it has a certain appearance???
it just feels so grossly cruel to me and it makes me feel very ill when I think about how thoughtlessly cruel people so often are towards things that live and breathe and have life cycles and heartbeats.

"why do you care so much about bugs?"
Because I like living a world with natural habitats that are diverse and varied, because I like to see fireflies, cause I want future generations to see butterfly's, because without bees and wasps we'd have so much less food, because I enjoy existing on this planet and bugs are a part of that!
And you can't get rid of the "bad" bugs without also destroying the "good" ones

FINALLY had the time to watch a bit of Nimona before work. The first 30 minutes felt so familiar, and I didn't know why. The dialog, the animation, the humor, the wackness of the characters, yet serious storyline, mixed in with this cuteness vibe. The way the eyes and expressions were animated looked so familiar that I couldn't put my finger on it. Heck, the way they designed the animals looked so familiar, and their soundtrack too.
It bothered me all day at work. And then I see this on Tumblr........
Tumblr media
IT'S MY CHILDHOOD!!!
Tumblr media
No wonder it felt familiar! I kid you not, I had to hold in so many tears during work when I found out. Ice Age was my entire childhood. The reason I started my passion in writing. Along where my value for love and morals about family came from. Same for Rio! Finding your roots and falling in love with your culture. That film was too cute. Robots with their message on classism. Hortan hears a Who! I have found memories of watching that and valuing life. Seriously, look up Hortan Hears a Who, We Are Here. And listen to that part of the soundtrack. It's beautiful. I am who I am because of Blue Sky Studios. I wasn't allowed to watch Disney as a kid, so Blue Sky Studio's were one the only films I did watch. But I am so thankful for that. The studio always made films about love, the value of life, and peace. I believe in love, peace, and justice because of this studio.
The fact that Nimona is a piece of my childhood studio that survived. It makes me tear up! I'll always be disappointed in Disney for getting rid of them. There are so many emotions. And the fact that so much heart was put into this film. And it kept that Blue Sky charm the studio always had. The love, the need for peace and justice. The film is so beautiful and I only saw 30 minutes of it so far! I'm gonna finish it tonight with my siblings. Oh man, I'm gonna ugly cry knowing this fact about the film. I'll give my thoughts on the film soon. Let me just get emotions under control.

I haven't watched Dungeon Meshi yet and I'm already so invested because of you fucks. And it's ongoing so I can't even look up the ending. If the lesbians don't get a happy ending I'll cry.

So, my dear partner told me that yesterday was Protect the Bees Day, so of course I wanted to draw something for the occasion!
Did you know that "Bee" in english is pronounced the same as "Bi" in french? Did you know that I'm very tired and very small? I heard "Protect the Bi Day" and I Did Not Question it.
So here, have a very confused korok, and don't forget to protect the bees !

[Image description: A digital painting of Nancy Downs from The Craft. She's both grimacing and has her mouth open like she's screaming, making her look murderous. She's holding a knife up in one of her hands, and a snake slithers between them. There's also a snake slithering out of her jacket, and creeping up her chin. On top of this, there's spiders scurrying across her body, especially her eye, which resembles a gaping black hole. A moon frames her head like a halo, and the rest of the background is black. Over the piece, there's a scratchy film filter.]
