One interesting feature of Stable Diffusion is the ability to input an image prompt to "guide" the text prompt in order to generate many similar images to the source image.

In this case I used my old profile picture, which was originally created in Stable Diffusion, with a similar prompt to the one it was originally created with. After playing a bit with the guidance scale of the text prompt vs the image prompt, adding a few relevant negative prompts, and tweaking with the settings, I queued up a whole bunch of jobs with different seeds overnight and picked through the best ones. After some additional editing, post-processing, etc, I created 12 different catboys that look similar to the original one.

The bottom 12 were all created with an identical text prompt (guidance scale 15) and an image prompt strength of .8 using img2img.

This seems like it has applications in concept art - using an original input image prompt that the artist either creates themselves, or generates in an AI engine, they can generate a lot of "close" images, that they can then edit in a digital art editing program. Based on my experiments with it so far, this seems like a much more powerful tool for digital artists themselves, rather than something that will automate their jobs away - img2img is a much more powerful of a tool in the hands of someone who can actually work on the output it produces than someone who mindlessly "feeds text into a machine."

It's not practical yet given the resource constraints (4GB of VRAM!) but I could easily see this sort of tool being integrated into existing digital art programs, potentially as various macros and filters with fixed/predetermined text prompts that perform corrections and retouchings, or modify the style of an image, potentially as similar but more powerful versions of those artists use today.

I think that overall, not learning how to use AI tools is probably a mistake for anyone who wants to make a significant amount of money off of digital art in the future - I don't see so many jobs being eliminated by automation per se, but rather requiring knowledge of it as part of everyday work; there's no guarantee that all of the benefits of this technology will be pre-packaged into existing digital art programs in an easy-to-access way, and having knowledge of the underlying tool is at any rate more powerful than those integrated tools could hope to be.

Img2Img is probably my favourite thing to use AI art tools for, here's how I made some faces recently. I rendered out the flat image of a model in DesignDoll and then used some painting over/adjusting in Krita to get this first basic boring grey figure.

From there it's a matter of tuning the denoising strength, cfg strength, prompting and weighting the lora styles to create all sorts of faces.

Giving it all of the creative freedom by turning up the denoise high and CFG low can yield some very weird or cool results.

So I think the sweet spot to create a unique looking character face with this kind of input is usually going to be a high denoise value and a moderate CFG value.

Keeping the denoising level low can render a facial onto that dummy face, making for a great source of simple references.

For more variety, why not turn clip skipping up from 1 to 2?

AI Art Quest: Tattooed Cat Part 2

I picked an image I liked and edited it in Photoshop to fix up that blank area, get rid of the whiskers, and make the design conform to the cat's anatomy better (I used Warp to stretch the design then painted some light and shadow over it).

I used the Ultimate SD upscale script, but I couldn't get realistic results with upscaling.

Maybe the pattern was too delicate?

I picked another image with a bolder design to try upscaling (after fixing it in Photoshop)

My upscales kept coming out too smooth and the tattoos were sloppy.

I don't think such a regal cat would get work done in some scratcher's kitchen!

When I use Automatic 1111's "Interrogate CLIP" feature, it reveals that apparently, the AI thinks my cat is wearing a sweater! That's probably why it looks roughly textured and a bit like embroidery.

Also, having or removing "Carlos Catasse" didn't seem to affect much at a Denoising Strength of 0.22.

I took the interrogated prompt and altered it to create img2img results with much better tattoos:

Since another suggestion in the thread was to improve my image's lighting, I considered that the shadows might make the image look more stylized than I wanted.

I tried really hard to change the lighting using Instruct-Pix2Pix, but couldn't alter the direction or mitigate the raging chiaroscuro going on:

I got so sick of strong shadows and excessively warty ears that I brought the image into Photoshop and did some air brushing to my image prompt.

Got some good results out of that. It's far from finished, but I'll have to continue the quest later.
