Recently, I have been watching Lee Dong Wook's movies and series. I have finished watching his movie Single in Seoul, his character here is a literature teacher at the same time he was offered to be an author, in which he writes a book about being single living in Seoul. One thing I like about this movie is that it shows self acceptance and self love. 💜

They keep telling us how great the ending(of the story in a story) is going to be, and allude to a twist ending(of the movie itself), and then keep throwing complications in the way. But the ending is an absolute miss! What a disappointment!
Also, what’s with the retro setting in so many 2023 South Korean flicks?
Cobweb (Korean: 거미집; RR: Geomijip) is a 2023 South Korean period black comedy-drama film directed by Kim Jee-woon starring Song Kang-ho, Im Soo-jung, Oh Jung-se, Jeon Yeo-been, and Krystal Jung

Search: WWW 🥰🥰 I seriously need these two in another drama together!!

Also, this drama is (imo) underrated... it gives women empowerment, standing up for yourself, competitive spirit while still being there for e/o. The evolution of Tami and Scarlett's relationship, from rivals to friends, gives me life... no wonder I re-watch it often.

Haunting and the Aftermath of Trauma: A Tale of Two Sisters (2003, dir. Kim Jee-woon)
this has been on my watch list so long, i'm glad i finally got to see it!
while there were some issues with the sound dynamic & scene pacing (mainly that the film was extremely quiet except when there were scare sound cues that were just way too loud; and that some scenes had a very odd way of cutting between action and reaction, leaving a little too much air in-between), i overall had a really good time. it's engaging to try and unravel the mystery of what's going on, and while that definitely wasn't exactly hard to do, it still gives you good pay-off when you get to the conclusion.
im soo-jung is just as magnetic to watch here as she was a year later in my personal favorite i'm a cyborg, but that's ok, and yum jung-ah is fantastically unsettling. their dynamic especially really solidifies the creepy, strained atmosphere of the film, and they play off each other perfectly.
the lighting and photography were very intriguing, especially the purple tint on many of the scenes, and the long quiet shots, which were made even more impactful by the extremely minimal soundtrack.
not all scare effects landed, but i was particularly impressed by the very slow build-up to the scare by the sink. i'm not a jumpscare fan in general, but this one felt really earned and appropriate as a storytelling device.
there was a slight effort to over-explain towards the end, but i think it was resolved quite elegantly. i think the narrative greatly benefited from not trying to diagnose su-mi or explain away all of her experience as symptoms of a specific mental illness. hauntings in stories are the aftermath of extreme pain, as are post-traumatic disorders in psychiatry, and in that way i think it can often be very impactful to let the two intersect. a haunting is trauma. the house is the mind. you wish to forget it all, but you can't.
