I just had the stupidest conversation with my dad about food stamps. I was saying that, hey I can buy a fully made cheesecake and premade sushi at the grocery store, but I can't buy a rotisserie chicken because it's hot (that is specified in the "not allowed" list for food stamps). so my conclusion was, if you're going to give people money for food, you shouldn't police them on what they buy. just because it's "your money" doesn't mean you get to choose what they eat on your terms. so my conclusion was- hey, just let people buy whatever food they want *at the grocery store* (literally the tamest suggestion I have about food benefits)

his response? well they probably don't want people to buy fast food. um yeah, that's why I can buy sushi at the grocery store, but not at a sushi restaurant. so I *can't* buy fast food anyway. his next response was "well it's all about how to define things legally, like take *gun laws* for example......"

so we had an argument about *allowing people to buy food at the grocery store*

abled people who have money and pay taxes are so entitled and just...judgemental? my parents aren't rich by any means, but when I said that people think they should get to decide what other people eat because it's *their money* (taxes), he nodded his head and was like "well they did give it to you." I just responded "how would you feel if you suddenly became disabled? how would you feel if you worked three jobs and couldn't afford food for yourself or your family? how would you feel if you were disabled in a way that meant you couldn't make chicken yourself? how would you feel if you were so tired after working that you didn't have the energy to make dinner for yourself? what if you just want some *fucking chicken*?

so he really expects people to buy what he thinks they deserve to eat because he paid for it. please consider what else your tax money is being spent on

please also let me point out that he doesn't have any income. he works on a passion project and my mom pays and always has paid for everything for our family. how can he not see that the situation is identical? there is NOTHING WRONG WITH NOT WORKING. it's not morally bad to be poor. it is not morally bad to rely on other people. we are meant to be part of a community and support each other.

Every person who is able to get pregnant is free not to get an abortion. I cannot fathom Biden questioning whether palestinians are lying, it is so insane and clearly calculated. The fact that these people have been under attack for DECADES should be enough to take this seriously.
