thinking about whumpee who just wants to engage in freaky funtime. they've gone through the horrors and they never want to go through them ever again- but being afraid is so very fun and they're badgering caretaker for it endlessly. but whenever caretaker demonstrates any willingness, whumpee immediately goes "but it'd just be play, right? it'd be pretend?" making caretaker think that maybe it's just not a good idea. whumpee just seems so anxious. it's like they love the idea of it, but any talk of execution makes them recoil.
still, they eventually work out an arrangement. whumpee is jittery as ever, testing out the safeword a thousand times to see whether caretaker would really stop. they say it before and after caretaker is finished tying them to the chair, they ask "but it's all pretend, yeah? you're not mean for real? it's all bluffs?" another hundred times, then they follow it up with "no, i do want this, i do, i just wanna make sure it's not too scary, or real"
and then caretaker gets into the rhythm, and whumpee is immediately captivated. all that nervous energy that should absolutely be there during play like this just vanishes almost without a trace. whumpee looks the calmest they've looked in a long while, and caretaker can barely believe that someone can be this calm watching them play with a knife and throw out threats
#im trying to convey a very specific mental image here#and possibly failing miserably#i see it so clearly#i feel like a fortune teller staring into a plane of existence no one else can see#while being blind to the real world and just flailing and trying to explain what i see#but everything comes out in vague cryptic messages and riddles#maybe thats why they talk like that#its just hard to convey stuff#whump#whump prompt

#rgu#nanami is the oldest at 33 cause she got out of there right after Anthy#others mostly left at the end of the next year wich was 10 years irl oops#anyway this series of post series head canons headcannons have spiraled into a Byzantine narative existing only in my head#nanami being the center of everything of course#ive got a little fancomic worked out and thumbnails for an amv where shiori comits a bunch of arson in a mostly abandoned ohttori#dont know how far ill get with any of that tho#anyway Nanami is a girlmom in this wich is troublesome cause she herself was not raised#she also flew bush planes in her 20's#thats kozue at the bottom shes 23 cause she got out same time as miki and juri#dj's and does events set up#shes the only one who's in frequent contact with nanami#was a very hard decision to change her hairstyle cause it was iconic in canon but im happy with the results#speaking of hair Miki grew his hair out in subconscious emulation of utena who he doesnt remeber but its not an accident that he's looking#more like mikage#who he also doesnt remember#the shadow play is a velvet ribbon refference#cw implied abuse#ask to tag#my art

While we're on the subject of pre episode 28 intraparty apologies, three cheers to one of my favorite early M9 scenes, the Beau/Caleb coached apology, which includes the highlights of:
- *Guest PC suspicicion (haaaa)
- An in character argument dicey enough that it got its own fandom name (Bowlgate was really something)
- Socially inept monk taking socializing lessons from a half orc (who happens to be using a fake accent and is bluffing So Hard All The Time, but its fine don't worry about it). She's learning how to people!!! Its going- okay. Its going okay. Shes doing her best!
- Socially inept wizard just so full of guilt and trauma, taking social cues from Extremely Awkward And Introverted Barbarian, who is ALSO full of guilt and trauma. They bonded while she shaved him with her sword. They both look up to each other for socializing tips.
- The scene itself being an overwhelmingly awkward apology in which said monk struggles out a (very sincere) apology to the wizard, they stare at each other for forty seconds, monk keeps asking the half orc if they're doing fine or not. In lieu of a verbal answer the wizard pulls the monk into the most awkward hug known to man. It lasts way too long. "I don't know what I'm doing, just go with it."
- Both the wizard and the monk looking over their shoulders at their respective teachers on How To Hug
- Both teachers pantomiming proper hug procedures for their pupils
- They're not doing great but they're doing their best.
- Everyone else in the party politely applauds when they release
- This includes the kenku child the party is carting around with them at the time.
- "Welcome to the Mighty Nein!" indeed.
- Ah, I miss them.
