You know that make-up brand, Il Makiage, that's been advertised a lot lately? (I see commercials for it everytime I turn the TV on?) As an Arabic speaker, it caught my attention because that's the Arabic word for make-up. I thought, oh, an Arab-owned company? That's cool.

Wrong! It's Tel-Aviv funded! Do not support this trash! I tried to find out if the Hebrew word for make-up happens to be the same as Arabic but Google Translate didn't have the pronunciation and the dictionaries only had the spelling but it's probably safe to assume they stole the word!

I actually didn't know about this brand! Thank you for alerting me to this so that I could post about it here. I haven't worn make up in about 7 years, so maybe that's why it hasn't been on my radar? Since I know your fyp/algorithm usually pushes ads based on your interests/what you search for? Or maybe I did and I scrolled past it? But no matter the case, I found an article (above) that talks about the brands related to this company that people can look at just in case they haven't seen them on their social media feeds as well.

And to use the word for makeup in Arabic to start a line... that's just unsettling. Please -please don't support this brand, there are SO many you can buy from. I know the article I shared was from early last year, but based on little research I've done they've accumulated hundreds of millions of dollars -and are aiming to gross even higher.

I can't stand seeing Il Makiage ads in every app and on every other website I use I love natural skin so much it's like watching someone use a lawnmower on a hill of native grasses

What do you guys see ads for? I see manscaped, bet mgm, il makiage, Grubhub, and Pokémon go.

For a while there, being "nonbinary" on Facebook, etc. made the adverts very peaceful for me - the algorithm just showed me lots of geeky teeshirts, gadgets, and, because it was a bit extra like that, amazingly dapper two-tone leather shoes way out of my price range, and the occasional gorgeous rockabilly/ goth outfits, all fitted bodice and froofy skirts, or Mediaeval-inspired costumes and jewellery for any gender. Cloaks. A LOT of cloaks. Plus Wish, of course. Ah, Wish.

And now? Cleaning products and that BLOODY foundation advert. Like: well done for including a vast array of (mostly cis women's) skin tones, skin conditions, and body types, but you'll not sell to me until you show someone with facial hair using it, ’kay?

And yes, Tumblr, I'm looking at you, too. Multiple ads for trauma therapy? Ever considered how that might be a touch, oh, I dunno, traumatic?! Plus the inevitable foundation. Inescapable.

I'd honestly pay a fee if it meant never having to scroll past these ads on my apps again. Tumblr is supposed to be my joyscroll place, all pretty nature scenes, happy geekout moments, infodumps, gifsets, and confidence-boosting discourse. Not more evidence of how capitalism wants me to think myself inferior and incomplete in order to take the money off me it's insisted I'm worthless without earning.

The sooner we abolish money, the happier I'll be, quite frankly.

Reading the notes on the il makiage ad and it's a wild mix of this site's loudest fucking people including a radfem who can't stop spamming "woman hate" bc of a foundation ad lmao.....girlies............just don't buy it.

Also actually don't buy it anyway, it's lmao not good. They sent me 4 different shades and never matched my skin. You tell them you have yellow undertones once and they send you a shade that looks like a spray tan 🙄
