if you think they're judging you, you're probably right

just finished aa4 and really liked it! quick thoughts:

-apollo has quickly become one of my favorite characters in aa! he really struck that sweet spot between admirable and endearing for me--a hardworking, quick-thinking young man, who grew up as an orphan and clawed his way up to success and a new family in the wrights, and who’s also unrelentingly snarky, can’t whisper for his life, is terrified of heights, and cries over people that he hardly knows. what a dork, i love him. i think they leaned a little heavily on the ‘greenhorn’ aspect of his personality-- quite a few moments where there were things i had figured out but wasn’t allowed to do anything with until another character jumped in and was like “apollo u sweet summer child THIS is the answer”. also i spoiled myself a little and i know that the next two games have “traumatize apollo” as a running theme so a little apprehensive and hoping they at least develop his character well or smth

-mixed feelings about the ‘perceive’ mechanic bc narratively it’s cool as hell but  it was frustrating to crawl through the text looking around for a very slight change in the zoomed-in sprite, especially if it wasn’t clear what they’re fibbing about which is very often. had to use a guide on those parts pretty often. also it’s just like “hey you were twitching! you’re obviously hiding something!” “oh gee you caught me i’ll spill the beans” like i feel like it could’ve been a little more subtle or gradual, idk.

- love apollo and trucy’s relationship so much!! their banter is so cute and funny and they pull off the straight man/funny man routine really well. ik nick and maya have a similar thing but the vibes were just different, for some reason. they had very strong sibling vibes (even before the reveal), which i loved. them being half-siblings was pretty contrived (like a lot of things in this game and this series lmao) but i dont really mind too much

-on a related note, why can’t they know that they’re siblings. when’s the “right time” to tell them. why can’t they just reunite with their mother who has her memories back and loves them. phoenix wh

-on another related note i can understand how jaded and disillusioned phoenix got after he got disbarred but i honestly didn’t like the whole “mysterious cryptic mentor playing 4d chess” schtick that the game pulled. it feels ooc, especially considering you briefly play as present-day him in the final case and his internal monologue doesn’t seem too different from original trilogy phoenix, or at least the phoenix you see before disbarment in the final case (although i was rly invested in finishing up the case and wasn’t paying that much attention to phoenix’s characterization specifically, so i might’ve missed stuff). phoenix’s arc of growth was great and complete in t&t and it feels like they just...gave him a whole new personality. also phoenix goes back to being a lawyer in the next two games...does he just revert back to being regular ol phoenix? idk, maybe i’m missing some stuff right after my first playthrough but it just felt weird.

-plot was really convoluted and contrived even for ace attorney (havent played aa5 or 6 yet, so idk if it gets worse). lamiroir just happened to be apollo and trucy’s mom, if zak had just been frank with phoenix and given the original diary page to him OR valant hadn’t tampered with the crime scene this whole thing could’ve been avoided. why did zak want to take down phoenix in poker to the extent of planting cards on him to make it look like he cheated when phoenix was the one who defended him in court and he’s the one taking care of his daughter??

-way too many flashbacks to things that happened 5 real life minutes ago

-g u i t a r ‘ s  s e r e n a d e

-kind of wish they had done more with trucy. i liked her but i feel like there was potential, especially since the game implies that she’s putting on a brave front for apollo, and i wish they had expanded on that a little more. like....her birth father who had been presumed dead for years ends up being alive right up until mere months before the reveal. she’s the one that ends up delivering the forged evidence into phoenix’s hands as a child, even though she was completely unaware of it at the time. she and phoenix latch onto each other pretty quickly, which was very cute, but we get little insight to how she thinks of her biological father, who we can tell she loved and misses but not much else. maybe i’m just digging for angst, idk, but it still felt like there could’ve been more. (also i really wanted more phoenix-being-a-dad content!! be a dad to ur daughter sir!!)

-klavier was pretty good! it was refreshing to have a prosecutor that wasn’t after ‘perfection’ or had a vendetta against defense attorneys/the protag, but he still managed to come off as a competent opponent. his whole rockstar persona was very cheesy but i liked it lol. (also really hilarious to me that the third case starts with him giving discounted tickets to trucy and apollo, his opponents in actual legal court) also i knew people shipped him and apollo but i wasn’t expected the game to be so forthright with it. like how else are you supposed to interpret klavier saying “i’m used to being inspected by the ladies but this is the first time ive felt like this with a man”????

-ema skye!!! loved her and glad to see her in a spotlight role but it was just kind of sad seeing her perpetually grumpy. ik people didn’t like that there were so many forensic touchpad/mic minigames but i didn’t really mind it, they were kinda fun if sometimes a little tedious

-i for sure thought that valant had been directly involved with the murder in turnabout serenade (my initial theory was that valant was masquerading as daryan during set 3 while daryan shot letouse, which was why 2nd guitar was off during the recording). also i hated daryan’s hair, why does he have a military grade skunk torpedo on his head,

-wright anything agency adopt vera challenge

-this has already gone on long enough so tl;dr solid 7.5/10 would play again once i forget what happens a little bit

I always try to give her the BOTD sometimes, but i also call her out on things because i am a fan of her and ik what she does. Sometimes i wish she would go on some interview, like her friends ashleys show and just talk about it more openly. But i always got the vibe that her and josh too don't want to do that and want keep denouncing them privately, but not publicly in a big way untill they're out of the WH. Which is something you can't do, you can't have both things. Don't think they're evil

They’re definitely not evil they’re just not willing to take a stand on this. Like highkey Josh should’ve said “no” when Jared and Ivanka asked if they could divest to him. Like he could’ve just said no. They could’ve chosen to move to Montecito like they were rumored to be planning (where they had the rental over the summer). They didn’t have to join up and buy neighborly properties with Javanka.

I get that they don’t support most of what the administration has done. I don’t think they’re lying about it. But they’re so fucking super privileged and removed from the issues on the ground - well aside from ACA which as I’ve said I do think Josh would throw himself in front of a fucking bus for - that it’s essentially theoretical disagreements for them. Like they’re treating this as though they do just have a drunk uncle, like I said. But it’s not, they materially benefit, and that’s the difference that they don’t seem to get.

ik uve gotten a lot of asks for this but i just reread battlecry for what i Believe is the 7th time and i just. 😭😭 you said we’re never getting a sequel but can i get a crumb😭😭 a single sentence about what happens after, ANYTHING 😭😭😭 spare content maam, spare content?? will she and jaem have a falling out.... will she and JENO have a falling out...... how will her parents react.... would jeno feel too guilty and give her up, despite what she wants...... the possibilities.... r endless....

no dw bb you’re okay!! this ask honestly made me laugh ashfisjf and yes there are so many possibilities!!! I guess I can give you insight into one of them,, perhaps. it’s been so long though so I apologize if it’s disapointing. tw: light gore, mentions of torture, pretty dark. kinda just real sad in the beginning. here’s battlecry for those who haven’t read it. also, the song this is named after is really good and I recommend it!!

when the bones are good;

“Wretched boy,” whip, “wretched, cursed boy,” whip, “you’re a devil! You bring ruin to my family!”

One would think that after weeks of this, Jeno would be used to the blinding pain of a horse whip at his back. The first few hits reopen old wounds, ones that burn against rough fabric and heavy metal and the sweat of a day’s work protecting the kingdom. It just gets worse the longer they go on, until he’s crying into his bindings, wishing the saltwater would melt away the rope and he could try to run. He tried so many a time before. What made him think he had a better chance this time? Or the next? Or the next? Because there would always be a next.

Jeno no longer pleads. He takes the punishment in stride, hoping to the gods that have abandoned him to at least spare him a moment of ignorant bliss. No pain. 

Whip!

A choked sob leaves his throat and by some miraculous mercy, the whip hits him no more after that. He slumps against the disgusting chamber floors that are covered in the remains and innards of everyone who has met their fate here. Traitors, thieves, murderers, him. 

He is only held up by his tied up hands, keeping him from laying fully on the ground, suspending him in the air because his legs are too weak to do anything but give out. He’s lucky to still have his trousers, for his shirt is all torn to shreds in a corner of the chamber somewhere, so the cold stings against his bleeding wounds relentlessly. He huffs and puffs and with each breath, a cloud of vapor follows. It’s going to be freezing tonight. They may as well just kill him here.

Jeno can hear the king’s footsteps but he doesn’t dare open his eyes or look over his shoulder. He doesn’t get a choice though, when the king spins him around harshly and his back is pressed up against the jagged stone wall. He cries out again, being met by a sharp slap to the face. Jeno is silent at once. “Why I ever showed mercy to that abhorrent wench of a mother you have, I will never know. I should have killed both her and you that night and you know it.”

Jeno nods, knowing that if he refuses to respond he’ll just get hurt more. He’d really like to go to sleep now. 

“To think,” the king spits in Jeno’s face, “I gave a bastard peasant boy a place to sleep, food to eat, a place as close to my dearest jewel no man but me will ever have… and you had the audacity to come here in your mother’s name, knowing full well what I’d do to you if I found out. The very arrogance you have, walking these palace grounds for so long, plotting my demise… I ought to hang you in the square where everyone can see you for the treacherous demon you are.”

Jeno could imagine it. The townspeople taking turns to spit on him, calling him a devil child, sentencing him to death beside his mother. He hadn’t seen her since the day she laid the curse on you, the day he’d been found out by the king for his relation to the witch. That was the day the torture started, and if it wasn’t for how suspicious his sudden disappearance would be, Jeno would already be dead by now. 

Things were stiff now that all eyes were on the king. He couldn’t easily dispose of the witch’s spawn like he’d been doing to the others like him for the last few decades, lest the uprisings really take flight. For now, he’d have to wait until the excitement cooled down, and then…

“Leave him here. Hopefully the night will kill him before I have to. I’m far too exhausted to exert the effort.” Jeno hears the king’s voice as he stands and walks out of the cell, followed by the clang of the door slamming shut. It leaves a ringing in his ears that makes him whimper. He, too, hoped the night would kill him first. He couldn’t bear to see your face after your father no doubt fed you some lies about him being the reason for your curse in the first place. The hate you’d harbor for him as he made his way to be executed… he didn’t dare to imagine it.

Where was home?

With his mother? The witch who’d bred him to be her revenge, abandoning the just cause of protecting her coven and avenging her fallen witches in order to spill the king’s blood? The witch who sent him as an agent, meant to orchestrate her plan in slaughtering the royal family for their continued persecution of witches? The witch whose magic sizzled in his veins? The witch who abandoned him the moment he’d confessed “I’m in love”? 

Or was it with you before all this happened? The golden summer days of adolescence where the two of you were just children in love, and there was no curse, and there was no Jaemin, and the king and queen still thought of him as good? With you, the loving princess who didn’t emulate a single ounce of her father’s true nature?

Or was it in the night, when sparks of forbidden energy flowed through his fingertips and created images of a life where Jeno was happy and safe? Was it in the comfort of his “dark” magic, the very thing he kept hidden to save his life?

Home was… it was a rocking carriage. 

Jeno bolts upright and instantly regrets it when his back protests, making him cry in agony. He doesn’t know where he is, only that he’s moving, like he’s being carried somewhere. A hand on his cheek makes him alert to his surroundings at once.

It’s quiet and dark and there’s a hooded figure staring down at him. A familiar voice coos at him, “Please be careful… your wounds only just stopped bleeding.”

It’s you. You’re there. He can feel warmth wrapped around his body and he looks down to see bandages curled tight around his ribs and chest. A loose, peasant’s shirt is hanging off his body but it’s still thick enough to keep him warm, and then there’s a blanket hanging off his shoulders too. 

There’s a small lantern in your hands that lights up your sweet face. Jeno so badly wants to kiss you again. Instead, he blinks back his overwhelming love and asks the burning question on his mind, “Where are we?”

Your hand flutters from his cheek, leaving the boy whining softly in the loss of contact, but it’s only to help readjust his blanket. “The woods. We’re headed for the Na Kingdom.”

A hand much different from your own touches his shoulder, and before Jeno can react the way he’s been bred to, there’s a another blanket being draped over him. Jeno chances a look over his other shoulder and finds another hooded figure, and though the light scarcely meets his face, the features are apparent. 

Jaemin’s lips are pulled tight in a small frown, but he cannot hide the softness in his eyes when Jeno meets them. “It will be a long journey, and we will have to stop a few times for supplies and such. It’ll be trouble trying to smuggle so many people out of the kingdom after the ordeal.”

“I like our odds,” you perk up from beside Jeno, leaning in close to him to provide some warmth, “Renjun knows this land like the back of his hand, and Mark’s been working on cloaking spells for months now.”

It’s only then that Jeno recognizes a sleeping figure at the far end of the carriage, a boy curled up in some hay and sleeping peacefully, no doubt the court mage he’d been watching monitor you for weeks. He could only then assume that Renjun was leading the carriage from outside. His mind, putting things together slowly but surely, wonders how you’d both convinced them to come with you. “Did something happen…? Did your father threaten your life?” 

“He might as well have.” Your voice hardens, but it’s not directed at him. No, your anger is saved solely for the man who raised you, “To beat you… to dare lay his hands on you the way he did… he might as well have done the same to me. It hurts me just the same.”

You were doing this for him. 

Jaemin shuffles a little closer at his other side, adding even more warmth to the freezing boy, “…you have been my friend these past few weeks and I could not ask for more kindness from you even if I was that selfish,” Jeno shudders, unable to comprehend, “what happened… we can discuss at a later time. Right now, your safety and the safety of your people is all that matters to me. We cannot let the king get away with his atrocities. When we get home, I’ll see to it that the treaty is ended and that my father rights her father’s wrongs. I promise that all witches will be safe.”

Jaemin was doing this for him. Why would anyone…?

“That’s right. Jaemin’s kingdom is safe for all. We will make this right, Jeno.” You place a soft kiss to his forehead, enveloping the boy in a hug so tight but so loving that he can ignore the pain for now.

With one hand on your arm, Jeno places the other on Jaemin’s, shocking the prince, “Your highness, I swear to you my life. I will protect both you and (Y/N) even if it kills me.”

The small frown on Jaemin’s lips wavers some at that. Jeno can’t tell what it means, only that he hates seeing the prince look so pained. He’d gotten used to the smiles and laughter. He hated knowing he was the reason for its absence. He would do anything he could to fix-

Jeno is startled when the prince suddenly collapses into his side in a fit of soft crying, tears rushing out of his eyes so fast that the shoulder of Jeno’s blanket is soaked in seconds. The prince has wrapped himself tight around the knight, tight like you, and yet again, the pain is bearable. “You’re an idiot, Jeno,” Jaemin swears through gritted teeth, “don’t talk to me like a knight. Talk to me like you talk to (Y/N). Talk to me like I mean something to you. I care about you.”

You, too, are sniffling into Jeno’s opposite shoulder, rubbing at his arms to fight against the night air.

It’s strange. “I… care about you, too. I’m sorry.” He says and you lay down like that, fall asleep like that. It’s so, so strange. This feels pretty close to a home.

Deal

Harold sighed, tapping on the wooden sides of his bunk bed in a random rhythm. He was nearly bored out of his skull, which wasn’t what summer camp was supposed to be like. It was supposed to be him and George all day every day, having fun and pulling pranks. But right now it seemed more like George and Melvin, while Harold got to sit around in the cabin being the third wheel.

He thought that when George said Melvin was gonna be their friend now that Melvin would be the third wheel. After all, it had been George and Harold since kindergarten, not George and Melvin.

Harold rolled over to face the underside of the top bunk and shook his head. No, that wasn’t fair to George, was it? He was allowed to have other friends. They both were. Just so what George was the first one to actually find a friend he wanted to hang out with alone?

...then again, it had been awhile. Maybe he should go get him- no! Harold flopped back down onto the bed he had gotten up from. He grabbed the sorry excuse for a pillow they had been given and groaned into it. This was torture! Harold tried desperately to calm himself down. After all, it wasn’t like they were gonna get together, despite Harold harboring a secret crush on George for years that he had been too much of a coward to actually tell him about.

…

That wouldn’t happen, right? They were just friends, right?

George giggled as Melvin dramatically read the comic aloud, sometimes going as far as to stand up and gesture like the characters in the story. As much as George enjoyed reading and performing his own stories, watching and listening to Melvin read them was a brand new experience that he absolutely adored. Maybe it was why Harold loved when George read to him.

George laughed again and clapped when Melvin ended his performance with a dramatic bow. “You’re really good at performing, Melvin!”

Melvin blushed and grinned, scratching the back of his head. “Ah, well. Theater is such an important part of literature. It would be silly of me not to partake from time to time… although I must say, I’ve never performed a story so… well… immature.” He flipped through the pages of the comic. “It’s rather, ah… challenging.”

“Admit it, you like poop and fart jokes just as much as the rest of us.” George snickered, sitting back against the wall with his arms behind his head. He crossed his legs, setting one on top of the other.

“I never said that!” Melvin’s face burned, and he shoved the comic in the drawer beside his bed before sitting down next to George. “I’ve never… considered doing art like this before. It’s fun.”

“Haha! Told ya!” George grinned. Melvin rolled his eyes and stared at his lap, fidgeting ever so slightly. He looked over at George, who was stretching, and his eyes focused on George’s stomach that was visible when his shirt lifted. Melvin’s face burned hotter and he quickly looked the other way when George started to move.

“I should probably go, before it gets too late-”

“George I was lying.”

“...lying?” George gave him a confused look. “About what?”

“Wh-when I said- when I said that the reason I didn’t notice you were uncomfortable that first day, was that I was distracted by having a friend. I was distracted because-” Melvin gagged a bit, trying to form the words. “Because I liii- hack! I li-i-ike!” He squeezed the sides of his head desperately. “Ah, why is this so hard! Iiiii-” When Melvin hesitated again, George slapped his back to try and help. “I like you!”

Melvin immediately lit up red and slapped his hands over his mouth. He stared at the stain on his bedsheet just in front of his lap, far too terrified to dare looking up. For far too long, there was silence, and Melvin couldn’t help the tears that started going down his cheeks, from the fear that he had likely just messed up the first real friend he’s ever had, forever.

Despite the silence that filled the room, there was a full-on battle going on inside George’s mind. A battle between the fact that this was Melvin Sneedly, a boy who he had known to be quite manipulative when he wanted to, who he’d had a sworn enemyship with for years, ever since George first showed up in Jerome Horowitz (subjecting a 5-year-old ADHD kid with behavioral management problems to ten minutes of bragging and boasting did not end with a pretty picture)

And then… the undeniable feeling in George’s gut that… Melvin wasn’t being manipulative this time. He wasn’t after some bigger, unforeseen prize that would leave George and Harold to have to clean up after the mess. He also couldn’t just ignore the something that had been wiggling in his stomach ever since they started hanging out. There were feelings there too, he was sure. And he couldn’t exactly sit there and do nothing.

And then, George was never very good at analyzing his actions before they happened.

Before George could even realize what exactly what he was doing, he grabbed Melvin’s face and turned it towards him-

Only to smash their noses together when they got close.

“Ow!” Melvin snapped, pulling back and rubbing at his nose. “What was that!”

“I-I-I’m so sorry!” George fumbled, red and confused at what just happened. “I-I’ve never done this before and I don’t know what I’m doing and when I don’t know what I’m doing I just go really fast-”

“It’s alright, you’re fine.” Melvin pulled his hand away and looked it over. “No blood; it’s fine.”

George gripped his feet and rocked back and forth for a minute, avoiding looking at Melvin. “Can I… try that again?”

“Yes, just don’t break my nose, you used bandage.”

George nodded and- slowly, this time- turned Melvin’s face towards his own and pulled him closer. He froze when they were almost an inch away. His heart felt like it was going to leap out of his chest at any moment, and his face felt like he had dipped it in the lava river in the Doom Dome, and was he sure he wasn’t somehow secretly related to Sweaty Stanley?

Apparently he had been frozen for too long, because Melvin rolled his eyes in irritation. “Typical George, you never finish anything. Here, I’ll do it.”

Melvin closed the gap, smooshing their mouths together. It was awkward, and weird, and clearly neither of them had any idea what they were doing, but wow. Holy cow, wow. George could get lost in this. In fact, he quickly was.

Eventually it smoothed out as they figured out what to do, and it certainly felt a lot nicer, and George felt like an icicle had dropped into his stomach when he pulled apart. They ended up staring at each other for a solid 10 seconds- long enough for George to realize he had never really made eye contact with Melvin, and long enough to notice that his eyes were mismatched too: green and blue- before Melvin seemed to almost shut down and fall backwards onto the bed with his arms spread out.

George followed his lead, leading back against the front of the bed, staring into nothing. Melvin, meanwhile, stared at the bed above them, his mouth moving to form words that George couldn’t hear, and wasn’t sure if he would even be able to focus on well enough to process if he could hear them.

“...I kissed George Beard.” Melvin finally broke the silence. He said it as if he was recording information for a science experiment. “I kissed George Beard, and it wasn’t awful. In fact, it was… pleasant.” George realized, after a minute, that that was exactly what Melvin was doing. Minus a recorder. “More research is needed, though, before I can come to a conclusion.”

George sat bolt upright, now staring at Melvin, who was still gazing upwards. He hadn’t moved. “You wanna do it again?”

Melvin’s eyes moved to look at George. “Don’t you?”

It felt, again, like something wet and slimy was squirming around inside George’s stomach. “Yeah. Yes. I-I do. ...does this mean we’re boyfriends?”

Melvin frowned a bit. “I don’t know. Does it? I’m not particularly skilled at… relationships. Is there any paperwork we need to fill out, or something?”

“No!” George snorted, wrapping his arms around his knees. “You just kinda… say it, I guess. Declare it.”

Melvin nodded. “Alright.” He sat up, holding out a hand for George.

“...what are you doing?”

“Declaring it,” Melvin said as though it were obvious. “We, George Beard and Melvin Sneedly, are officially in a romantic relationship.”

George smiled a bit, rolled his eyes, and shook Melvin’s hand. “Deal.”

greaser!hyuck is...a lil shit to say the least

like ye he’s a handsome boi i mean,,,imagine him in a leather jacket,,,hair gelled back,,,yes pls

but he knows him and his group of bois (dreamies hello) are hot shit and he’s not afraid to show that he knows it

him and the dreamies are always seen cruising around town,,, harassing hollerin at the ladies from the inside of hyuck’s beat up mustang (is that a time period correct car??? idk and idc to look it up lol)

he never actually physically harasses anyone, it’s all fun and games (for them at least don’t accept cat calling kids men ain’t shit)

there’s just...nothing else really for them to do around town

the only forms of entertainment come from the drive in theater and the soda shop that all the kids hang out at after school

he attends his local university since him and the gang come from a small town and didn’t really care to leave or have the grades to go to a better school

and you...well you don’t really know why you decided to attend a university in such a dinky little town

maybe it’s because you wanted a change of pace from the city, and maybe it’s because it’s your mother’s alma mater and you spent a few of your summers there

but somehow you find yourself at the school

the only problem is,,,everyone who attends the school grew up in the dumb town,,,meaning everyone already knows each other and has their friend groups and cliques

leaving you to fend for yourself and kind of live as an outsider

sure you make acquaintances in your classes but,,,it’s hard for you to make solid friends when everyone else already knows everything about everyone else 

so you’ve been living your life on campus, smiling at the acquaintances you’ve made when you pass by them on the street, but you never really hang out with anyone after school

your sophomore year you got a job at the soda shop bc college ain’t cheap and they were hiring

surprisingly enough you made close friends through the job, your coworkers went to the same uni as you and the clientele were also in some of your classes

so you began to actually go out more (when you weren’t working obvi)

on day you were on campus walking to your next class and you saw one of said new friends

but while you were distracted with waving to them you bumped into someone and woop guess who????

you guessed it our boy hyuck with the rest of 00 line walking past

he was bouta pop off but then he sees it’s you the cute lil waitress from the soda shop that he’s lowkey seen around and been crushing on for a few months now

so when he sees you stuttering out an apology bc boi is brighter than the damn son and took your breath away

he just smirks and lets out a lil chuckle and just says ‘don’t worry about it sweetcheeks’ with a wink and then he’s off

you stand there for a moment in shock bc like obvi you know who he is even if you’ve only been around a few years who tf doesn’t know hyuck and co

and ofc your friends all saw and were like...b don’t even worry about it he just be like that sometimes ya know

and you’re like yea u right and forget about the whole encounter

but guess who doesn’t ohohoho it’s mister lee donghyuck himself he be thinking about it the rest of the day bc wow you’re even prettier up close huh

Wut??? I didn’t see that twist about the cousin coming. That was a fact with not much payoff though, because while the staff milked it for a gag, the colour schemes of the characters mean it was a deus ex machina of a gag – not completely believable.

Why does this feel like they’re playing endgame cards too early??? Maybe it’s so that the storyline can focus on Heine and only Heine, but I worry about this anime only ending (see link above if you still don’t know about it) not working.

Well, my guess was right and…ovibvrnvlk! Saraka?! What in flip-flap are you doing? T-This isn’t a superhero show! W-Wh-What? That’s one killer end-of-ep hook! Does this mean Saraka is a Sailor Moon of the anisotropic?! (My brain just got bent in so many directions, I think I’m seeing the anisotropic…but man, I still want more Kado…)

This ED sketch of Tsukai is new, it seems. The shots of everyone else are familiar to anyone who’s visited Kado’s official website and seen the character descriptions though.

It’s an apostrophe. I thought that was a typo, but it’s there in the titlecard! Also, I worry about bleeding Shindo and how this may become a shonen fighter (despite “shonen fighter” being my style of expertise, writing-wise)…

Update: Apparently Shunina’s “too many belts” outfit is inspired by a king in the storybook the child from ep 2 is reading. Also, random thoughts, but Tabiuta is anime’s equivalent to the Big Bang Theory opening. (brought to you by Reddit)

The Wind Rises. Isn’t that a Ghibli movie? Yeah…it is, but it’s also a story by Tatsuo Hori, apparently, from which the movie is partially based. The Setting Sun is a Dazai work, by the way.

No OP, huh? They’re dead serious about getting their plot over and done with, which is good.

You can see Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises) and Ningen Shikkaku (No Longer Human) on Kotarou’s shelf, alongside Pandora’s Box (Dazai), The Restaurant of Many Orders (Miyazawa), some work by an Arishima Tatsuo (although the book is credited to Arima Tatsuo in the show), Kokoro (Souseki) and Goodbye (Dazai). The one with the blue spine I presume is The Setting Sun/Pandora’s Box (Dazai) – I remember trying to spin a poem for Bungou Stray Dogs’s Dazai using the title of The Setting Sun as inspiration.

Frumpy man on Kotarou’s magazine kinda looks like what the actual Dazai is shown to be like in photos. I thought for a second the LNs were Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, but like Grimoire of Zero and Re: Zero, they only bear partially simlar titles.

I’m hollering! As much as I know how much LNs can be good, you know how the anime community sees LNs and that’s why I’m laughing so much.

I had a character called Daisuke once (he was the uncle and consultant for Tetsuya in Ro.Te.O, as well as being Katsuo’s dad), so I was startled to see this older brother figure is also called Daisuke.

It’s such a strange reversal – Kado became a shonen battler, losing the faith of most of the people who still watch it (not me, though!) and Tsukigakirei actually got good. It’s an almost sad change. Tsukigakirei also almost lost its bad CGI, which is good too.

Dokidoki is a heartbeat onomatopoeia, so it’s not quite OMG.

Huh, that’s interesting. My parents gave me the exact same talk for the experiences I wrote on for One Wish They Never Wanted (hence there’s a similar scene between Takuma and his father), so suddenly…Tsukigakirei has become a Kado replacement (although I still don’t love any characters in Tsukigakirei as much as I do Shunina, haha). Strange thing is, I thought I’d never go where I’d want to go and…I went where I wanted to go. *tries not to cry* Dangit, Tsukigakirei. You’re so good at bringing feels right now…it was good to wait 6 eps for the good stuff.

I only read the back half of the ED convo and it doesn’t make much sense without context…

I read the ep synopsis…and when it says “Todoroki vs Bakugo” as the next ep title, you know Iida’s gonna lose.

Interesting how everyone loses interest in competitiors that lose. it’s kinda like those rankings people do for anime episodes per week, which I admit I enjoy watching quite a bit, but this almost makes me feel guilty for ranking anime (which is a weird sentiment to have, I know, I know).
