Juilliard is the tip of the iceberg. If Juilliard grads are struggling to find work – coming from one of the the most prestigious and well funded programs in the country, with some of the most high profile instructors – imagine the job prospects of all the state school grads. It's hard to imagine any scenarios where potential employers are going to take a ***** State University candidate over someone from Juilliard.
What follows may be my longest tumblr essay ever, buckle up for a ride through the perils of music education and a few ideas and solutions along the way!
And yet music programs around the country continue to expand the number of students in their programs – more students is after all in best interest of the institution (more students=more funding) – somehow without much regard to the hard numbers of how well these graduates will do in their careers.
Now, I work in music education and I readily acknowledge that changing this system is like changing the course of a glacier. For over two hundred years the higher education system in music has focused on a relatively narrow range of topics and techniques to train musicians. Berlioz's irreverent send-up of scholastic fugues during the finale of his 1830 Symphonie Fantastique is just one early example of students rankling at the limits of what was taught in school.
And for the first hundred or so years of the conservatory system (the 1800s), especially when it came to orchestral musicians, the product generally matched the demand - well trained musicians to play the music of the times.
On the other hand, I defend the traditional idea that not everything about a music education in a university has to be about job preparedness. For example, whether or not a musician teaches music history or theory for their career, I believe they should be well rounded and have a knowledge of those things. I tell my students: you want to be the whole package. And no matter what innovations come in music education, it would seem unquestionable that certainly the program should train musicians in excellent technique and performance.
I don't have the answers. I wish I did. I wish every person who wants to make music for a living could go to college and leave prepared to have an enjoyable, reliably profitable career in making the music that makes them happy. But right off the bat if you want to make pop (or any popular genre of) music or video game music or movie music – most university programs can hardly begin to help you with that. While some few specialized programs exist, you've really got to be the cream of the crop in the first place to even get your foot in those doors.
But where are the musicians making the money today? What skills do they have that enable them to make this living? And why does a music education have so little to do with either of those answers?
Many first year music students are surprised and disappointed to find that unless they want to be a band conductor, an orchestra musician, or a private instructor, being a music major may not be for them. And indeed it may not be! Many of the 20th century's and now 21st century's most wealthy and successful musicians became so without a formal music education behind them. Same for many of the ones who, while not wealthy, are working in studios and in live gigs with a steady income. Talent, work and creativity have always mattered a lot more in music than a piece of paper from an institution.
I have been wondering lately whether all of this really boils down to the fallout from the invention of recording technology over a century ago. Prior to the age of recordings, western musical notation had had a thousand years to develop and influence the way music was made, performed, and disseminated. Simply put, if you wanted to write, share, or perform music widely, then written music notation was pretty much the only way to do so. The accumulation of this tradition lead to the heights of late 19th century romanticism and the dawn of musical modernism. It's a staggering artistic achievement for humanity, no doubt about it, and it was all made possible because each generation could build on the written tradition of the previous one.
However, the advent of audio recordings abruptly interrupted (and/or accelerated) this progression/fragmentation. The need for creating and reading sheet music has gone from being universal to being niche - as long as the song can be performed, it can be recorded. The middle-man of notation no longer has a monopoly. This has led to the rise of new genres and commercial aspects of music that have fluctuated with the changing times and technology.
Jazz is an interesting case – an entirely new musical genre whose rise I would credit to recording and broadcast technology. Suddenly you didn't have to have tickets to an exclusive venue, training at a fancy school, or even the sheet music. You copied and learned from what you heard on the radio or recordings. You learned right from the best, right in the comfort of your home. You got playing experience doing live gigs. The genre evolved rapidly from Jelly Roll Morton to Louis Armstrong to Duke Ellington to Charlie Parker to Miles Davis to John Coltrane in just a few decades, becoming a well established and vibrant musical language – so well established that it can now retroactively enter higher music education. Those early jazzers would be quite amused, I think, that you can now (as I once did) get a degree in jazz.
Unfortunately, the same effect may be happening to Jazz education as happened to classical music education – the education becomes more about preserving the past than about keeping the music itself alive. (Have you heard some of the things the best jazz musicians are doing today? It is as far from even the wild jazz of the 60s as the earth is to the moon. Still recognizably jazz but not anything you'll learn in school!) Perhaps by its nature, a music education is only capable of teaching about the past. But I think that's an assumption worth challenging.
We may expect a trained jazz musician to be able to play big band styles and bebop with equal fluency, much the same way a violinist may be expected to play Bach and Brahms and Boulez. But is there a point at which a music education becomes too fixated on the past without adequately preparing for the right now, let alone the future, of life as a musician?
In fact, every non-notated music tradition is at risk of the same effect due to recordings. Say you recorded a native music maker from an endangered tradition in the early or mid 1900s. Now for all time, to make music in that tradition there is this temptation to calcification - hardening the whole style around a few interpretations just because they happen to be the earliest of which we have record. The reality is that no musical style ever stays the same forever. Those recorded in the 1900s were not even doing the music in the exact same as their parents, let alone 50 or a 100 years prior. The times changed, the people changed, the music changed.
It will always be that way. Music education may be a glacier set on its course but the flow of music increasingly is finding its way around and beyond it in terms of the art, the artists, the culture, and the money. Now, the times still change, the people still change, the music still changes, while the cultural and practical relevance of a formal music education wanes and wanes.
Man, I hate being so negative about this, but to fix things you have to first diagnose the problem. So let me propose a few solutions or at least work-arounds, especially for music majors.
- don't go into a music degree expecting it to do everything for you. Understand what it is and what it isn't. It will help you be a good musician. It may not prepare you for many other aspects of the career. You can do everything right in a music degree, pass with 'top marks', and still not be ready to go to work in your field.
- do look for opportunities to perform and make music outside the university. How do you expect to suddenly have music making be a money-making enterprise if you haven't already been practicing that? Why wait until you are a 'pro' to start a youtube channel, self release recordings on bandcamp or soundcloud, to self publish sheet music on sheetmusicplus.com? It takes time to build up a following and a reputation and it doesn't come automatically just when you get a diploma.
- do everything you can to learn about music business, copyright, contracts, recording, sound engineering, advertising, etc. whether or not it is required for a class. Learn what you need to know, not just the minimum for the grade or degree.
- be disciplined with your time. Give due diligence to your classes and practice but don't let those things take over the rest of your time. Balance your life and your art. If you don't learn to do that in school you'll have to learn it while trying to start your career...and why wait until that crucial period?
- you've got to be quite committed to make a music career work. It may involve participation in a combination of money-making streams - academia, private lessons, performances, recording, etc. You may even have to balance music making with other non-music income (I know of a successful composer who loves her second career as a yoga instructor). Carefully consider if all this is for you. You can have a lifelong, satisfying and fulfilling engagement with music making without ever making it the sole focus of your study or employment. There is no shame in seeking stability in a career, which music just can't promise.
- don't dismiss the value of the things in your college education that may not be "directly" relevant to the functioning of your music career. Modern college education has a foundation in the ideal that each person should have a well rounded grasp of some of the basics of the world. There's a reason all college grads are required to take classes like math or sociology or science. Practice finding that reason with each class and you'll have a happier time getting through those hoops. There can be relevance in pretty much any topic but don't expect college to spoon-feed you the application of that knowledge.
- Same goes for music topics that seem irrelevant. Just because the class is talking about music history, theory or repertoire that seems useless to you, it doesn't mean that you don't want to know those things as a musician. As I wrote above, you want to be the whole package: a well rounded musician who understands a thing or two about many aspects of life, the world, and music culture specifically.
- do take advantage of every resource that is available for your success. This may not be only within the university system. Look everywhere for mentors, professional contacts, grants, support, performance opportunities, learning opportunities and creative outlets. If you meet somebody who is making it work, pick their brain, ask for their help! If you aren't a voracious type of learner inside and outside of school, being a music major is going to be a tough road. Why suffer through four plus years just to eke out the degree that may not even lead you to a job?
- make the music of TODAY, of RIGHT NOW. Make music that matters to you and to your peers. Make music that is relevant and current and is more than a living museum. Don't be afraid of new music, be afraid of a world without new music!
- keep up with changes in the industry, especially paying attention to where the money is coming from and going. A music career doesn't have to be all about money but, you know, making a living matters unless you are 'of independent means'. Could be NFTs, could be grants, could be (as in the article above) playing your instrument with unusual ensembles. Be as creative with your income pursuits as you are in your art and I bet you can find a happy balance between making the music you like and making money in the process.
- don't give up hope that all the brokenness I mention above can be fixed. Total cultural change is possible and perhaps inevitable within a generation. Balance learning from the past with a push to make a difference in the directions you want to see.
I'll see you in a more vibrant and sonically rich world!

Pagan vs Christian Worldview || 4 HUGE Differences
youtube
One of the most common questions I receive is if someone can be both Christian and Pagan. This is a difficult question as it depends on what perspective you're coming from. From a Christian perspective the answer is definitely NO as in Christianity you must only believe in the one ‘true’ God. If you’re looking from the Pagan perspective the idea of combining Christianity & Paganism is a bit more possible because as Pagans we can always add on an additional deity, which in this case would be the Christian God, into our religious practice. However, there are some huge differences between the Pagan & Christian lifestyle and worldview that would make combining these two faiths difficult. So for this video & blogpost I want to share what I view makes the Pagan worldview so fundamentally different from Christianity.
Now before we begin, some disclaimers. I am not an official expert on religion. This is just my personal understanding of the differences between Paganism and Christianity so take everything I mention with a grain of salt. I understand that there is complexity and nuance to everything and this is just meant to be an introduction & my personal beliefs. This is also a very difficult topic to tackle because Paganism is an umbrella term and there are many different religions with varying beliefs and practices that could be considered Pagan. For the purposes of this post I’m using commonalities I find among the majority of Pagan religions, though this will of course not reflect all Pagans or Pagan religions.
Now that we got that out of the way here are 4 fundamental differences between Paganism and Christianity:
One God vs. Many Gods
In Christianity there is belief in one true god. Those that believe in this God will ascend to heaven and those that believe in either multiple deities or a different singular God are incorrect and they must be “saved” or else they will not ascend to heaven. In Paganism we believe in multiple Gods. While there may be a hierarchy of Gods, with some more powerful than others, the belief in multiple deities is an essential part to Paganism.
This makes Paganism distinctively different from Christianity and also makes it extremely versatile as each individual can choose the deities they would like to incorporate in their religious practice. This Pagan worldview also allows for religious syncretism which is the blending of two or more religious belief systems into a new system. The deity Hermes Trismegistus is an example of this as he is a deity formed by combining the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth.
Why is Religious syncretism important? Well, Pagans have the ability to adopt other deities and religious customs instead of completely rejecting them as wrong or sinful. Because of this unique feature it is my personal belief that Paganism is very conducive to peacefully living in a society that is filled with a diversity of people with various faiths. Also, as a side note, since there is not ONE true God in Paganism that means that others don’t need to be “saved” so there is no need to proselytize in Paganism. “Spreading the word” or converting others is not necessary or desired in Paganism.
Faith vs. Actions
Faith is the most important aspect of Christianity. Sin can be forgiven as long as you confess & have faith in the one true God. For example, in Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
In most Pagan societies, faith was secondary to actions. It was more important to perform the rituals & festivals to honor the Gods than it was to fully believe in the Gods. It was your actions in life, not your faith, that determined your place in the afterlife. You can look at Valhalla as an example - it was your strength in battle, not your faith, that determined a place in Valhalla.
You can also look towards ancient Roman society where religion was practical and contractual, based on the principle of "I give that you might give." Roman religion depended on knowledge and the correct practice of prayer, ritual, and sacrifice, not on faith or dogma. Excessive devotion or fearful groveling to deities was considered undignified in Roman society. This does not mean that faith was unimportant among Pagan societies, it just means that it was not valued in the same way as it was within a Christian worldview.
For example, we can look at a quote from Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, “Since it is possible that you might depart from life this very moment, regulate every act and thought accordingly. But to go away from among men, if there are gods, is not a thing to be afraid of, for the gods will not involve you in evil; but if indeed they do not exist, or if they have no concern about human affairs, why would I wish to live in a universe devoid of gods or devoid of Providence? But in truth they do exist, and they do care for human things, and they have put all the means in man’s power to enable him not to fall into real evils.”
Here Marcus Aurelius is stating how the Gods have created us not to watch over us to see if we are sinning, but instead they have empowered us to create and mold our own lives. Faith here is not what’s truly important. What’s important is the quest to empower ourselves to actions that better our lives and the lives of others.
Mercy vs. The Warrior
In Christianity there is a focus on humility, peace, and meekness and an de-emphasis on physical strength & the warrior archetype. For example, Matthew 5:5 - “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
This is much different from Paganism. There is not a ‘turn the other cheek’ worldview and Pagan societies were not always peaceful or gentle. In fact, pretty much every Pagan society had at least one God of war.
This does not mean that we as modern pagans condone violence. However, it does mean the warrior archetype has value and that building both physical & mental strength can be an active part of Pagan practice. If you are interested in learning more about the Warrior archetype I would recommend watching the video The Archetype of the Warrior – How Films Help Empower Us All.
Strength in the Pagan worldview, both personally & collectively as a society, was greatly important. For example, you can consider the value of athletic glory in Ancient Greece or you can look towards Socrates who wrote, “No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”
In Paganism the body is not sinful nor is it something to be ignored. In fact, the body is an integral part of spiritual practices. Through bodily strength & pleasures we gain access to glimpses of the divine, but that does not mean we should descend into purely hedonism. There is of course a time & a place for hedonism in Paganism, but it must be balanced by a strong body and mind.
Focus on Afterlife vs. Focus on Life
In a Christian worldview the goal is to live in faith without sin so that you may ascend to heaven. In many Christian texts and in certain aspects of modern Christian culture there is a yearning for this life to end and for the rapture to occur. During this time faithful Christians will be chosen by God and the rest of us will descend to hell for eternity.
Even the main symbol of Christianity, the cross, focuses on death and the afterlife. Additionally, you have the concept of the martyr - to sacrifice your life for God leads to sainthood.
By contrast, the afterlife is not as important within Pagan societies. While there are some occasional mentions of places like Elysium or Valhalla, it’s clear that the afterlife was not a main focus of Pagan religions. Instead, a main focus of Pagan religious rites and festivals was to celebrate life & fertility. This celebration of fertility is a clear departure from the Christian worldview.
In Christianity, female sexuality and fertility is often viewed through a lens of sin. Pagan societies however, greatly celebrated fertility - both our human fertility and the fertility of the land. Some of the earliest art we humans created, like the Venus of Willendorf, emphasized the sexuality & fertility of the female form and celebrating this fertility is an integral part of pretty much all pagan religions.
When it comes to death in Pagan societies, it was your legacy that mattered much more than where you end up after you die. For Pagans achieving eternity did not mean dying and going somewhere where you’ll live forever. Instead eternity was achieved when the great acts you performed in life are remembered & retold by your descendants and your community.
There’s a lot more I could discuss about the differences between the Christian & Pagan worldview, such as Purity of God vs Flawed Gods or the Intersection of Science and faith in Christianity & Paganism so let me know if you enjoyed this post and I maybe I will make a part 2.
Next I’d love to hear what you think are some of the fundamental differences between Christianity and Paganism, so please share your thoughts as well. ✨

Virtual Assistants: Why You Should Hire Them Now
Today, business owners are searching for fresh and creative ways to increase their profit margins.
People in business who have been active in their projects excel at two skills:
When it comes to setting organizational targets, they use strategic analysis.
The company makes the best of the opportunities at its disposal to achieve long-term viability, and it is secure of the outcome.
As your company expands, you’re burdened continuously with so much work. You’ll be wondering, “How can I take care of that kind of burden on my own?”
When you take the time to consider this scenario thoroughly, you will know that you must find an alternate solution to using a full-time employee: Ask for assistance from an experienced virtual assistant to meet or surpass your standards.
The virtual assistant industries have soared in fame in recent years, but why hire a virtual assistant in the first place?  What will they do for you and your company?
Who are Virtual Assistants?
Virtual assistants are self-employed experts from a remote location to offer various services to companies or entrepreneurs in the most literal way. They have virtual access to the data and resources they use to do their work, even though they aren’t in the workplace. Virtual assistants were traditionally self-employed people who worked on specific projects.
However, as the virtual assistant industry has evolved, they may be beneficial because they can work on a variety of critical activities, including:
• Customer support
• Administrative tasks
• Social media management and marketing
• Data entry and management
• Appointment setting and Calendar management
• Accounting and bookkeeping
Want to know the reason why you should hire a virtual assistant for your company?
Here’s why:
Minimized operational expenses
Most company owners and developers hire virtual assistants to reduce their overhead costs. You will get someone who will do the job for you if you use a virtual assistant instead of hiring a full-time employee. You have to pay them for work that is already complete, and they usually bill by the hour or by the job. Overhead expenses like theirs are not included in the price of wireless access, laptop, or any office-related costs when they operate remotely. Hiring simulated experts will also help you save money on training expenses. When you recruit a new employee, you’ll have to dedicate a large amount of time and money to prepare them for all aspects of their work. You won’t have to think about teaching virtual assistants since they only work on unique projects that they are already good at. They can begin right away!
Established Workforce Is Maximized
Regardless of how boring or uninteresting these duties may be, a company’s administrative and clerical tasks must be fulfilling. There is typically much effort involved in managing the company efficiently, which entails managing contracts with vendors, service companies, business partners, and customers and ensuring that all of the business’s workforce standards, compensation, and donations are regularly modified. As part of a team leader’s general duties, team members may need to plan activities and meetings, manage phone calls, and communicate with customers.
Because of this job’s time-consuming nature, office-based workers can devote considerable portions of their energy to non-skills-specific causes, such as administrative and clerical duties, which means the more challenging and skills-specific aspects of keeping the company afloat will suffer. It is more likely to be true for organizations with no capital or workforce.
Hiring virtual assistants also enables companies to rely on their key competencies. It allows companies to make the most of their resources and staff, is a cost-effective alternative to in-house clerical help. Providing company owners with the ability to delegate duties by not overloading their staff with undue obligations that meet their original work application requirements allows them to accomplish their everyday operations efficiently.
Minimizes Conflicts
Since the company doesn’t expect the virtual assistant to be physically present in the office workplace, they are not subject to office drama. They can therefore complete their assignments efficiently and without prejudice.
Employee conflict is unavoidable in every workplace. Employees vary in appearance, educational history, personal knowledge, and values, after all. Virtual assistants are effective in eliminating organizational stress and misunderstandings. Although simulated contact may confusing at times, it is less likely to result in intense debates among the workers concerned. In reality, since they are either paying for each production or the time they give to their boss, remote workers working in the same team are more focused on getting the job done and cooperating.
It offers a significant improvement in performance for businesses. Gleaming, tardiness, and habitual absenteeism are all automatically reduced while productivity is improved.
Scale your company processes quickly
Virtual assistants will also assist you with effectively scaling up your company activities. You can effortlessly handle increasing job demands without having to hurry the hiring process, and they encourage you to attract talent on a project-by-project basis efficiently. You can use virtual assistants to deal with massive scope increases instantly and only eventually employ full-time staff after things have cooled down.
Have customer support around the clock
The majority of companies have a large number of clients. However, dealing with global demands and time gaps can be difficult when the business and staff are only in one region. Since virtual assistants locate online, you can hire them from anywhere in the world to fit various time zones. This way, you and your colleagues will strike a healthy work-life balance while also serving consumers most of the time.
Allows for more critical analysis
You’ve opened up your time, which frees you up to spend more attention developing your company, and virtual assistants can manage your non-core duties. Rather than squandering time and money on day-to-day activities, you should use them to think creatively about the company’s long-term objectives. It enables you to set targets that can lead to increased results and long-term sustainability for your company.
A virtual assistant is always useful because these frameworks will help you optimize your everyday job tasks efficiently; they will open up resources to focus on crucial functions by doing everything from your phone calls to maintaining your social media pages. It’s also good for all sides since they are highly professional at what they do, requiring no attention. It is a win-win situation!
The thing to note about being competitive is that it’s never continuous. If companies don’t respond to new consumer needs and changes, they will be ineffective. In the near term, brand-new names will likely arise to threaten traditional companies in one direction or another.
And if it is possible to locate the right assistant who works remotely, finding a virtual assistant will help with a wide variety of company activities. Hiring a virtual assistant makes for more extensive and smaller opportunities for enterprises. Both of these advantages help organizations achieve greater heights of achievement.

Ananda Lewis
Tumblr media
Ananda Lewis (born March 21, 1973) is an American television personality, model and social activist. She was an MTV veejay from the late 1990s until 2001, when she left the network to host her own broadcast syndicated television talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show.
Biography
Early life
Lewis was born on March 21, 1973, in Los Angeles, California. She is of African American and Native American descent, specifically of the Creek and Blackfoot tribes. Her name means "bliss" in Sanskrit. Lewis's mother worked as an account manager for Pacific Bell, and her father as a computer-animation specialist. Her sister, Lakshmi, is a physician. Lewis's parents divorced when Ananda was two years old, and her mother moved with her daughters to San Diego, California, to be near her own mother. Her mother took an extended trip to Europe to escape the pain of her failed marriage, leaving Ananda and Lakshmi with their grandmother. During her absence, which lasted less than a year, Lewis felt abandoned. She states:
It was like she nurtured me and carried me in her womb and then completely left."
Lewis often fought with her mother while growing up and rarely saw her father, who had remarried. Lewis and her grandmother also frequently "locked horns" while she was growing up.
Lewis struggled with a speech impediment, stuttering until she was eight years old. In grade school she earned a reputation for outspokenness; her comments provoked her teachers' ire or, less often, their amusement. In 1981 Lewis entered herself in the Little Miss San Diego Contest, a beauty pageant, and won. During the talent portion of the competition, Lewis performed a dance routine, which she had choreographed herself, to Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney's ballad "Ebony and Ivory." After her win, Lewis attracted the attention of a talent agent and began working in local theater productions and on television. In fourth grade she enrolled at the San Diego School of Creative and Performance Arts (SCPA), a public magnet school, where she remained for nine years. At the age of thirteen, Lewis began volunteering as a tutor and counselor at a Head Start facility. Lewis was inspired by the work and decided to become a teacher or a psychologist, with the goal of helping young people. However, Lewis's family urged her to follow a more lucrative career path specifically law. She majored in history at Howard University, in Washington, D.C., from which she graduated, cum laude, in 1995.
Personal life
Lewis has credited her mother, grandmother, and sister for providing her with a positive, supportive environment. By her own account, as she grew older she felt increasingly upset by her parents' divorce. In adulthood, Lewis has healed her rifts with both parents. Lewis was a good friend of singer and actress Aaliyah before her accidental death. She has six godchildren. In 2011, Lewis gave birth to a boy, her first child. She currently resides in the San Fernando Valley.
Career
Early career
Throughout college Lewis had volunteered as a mentor with the group Youth at Risk and at the Youth Leadership Institute. She was considering attending graduate school to pursue a master's degree in education when she learned that auditions were going to be held for the job of on-screen host of BET's Teen Summit. She states that the children she was working with that summer were the main ones pushing her to go to the auditions. She states:
The kids said, "You better go audition for that show. You don't have a job, and this job is almost over."
Lewis's audition would be a success and she became the host of Teen Summit. For three seasons she discussed serious issues affecting teenagers for a television audience of several million. The show's topical, debate-driven format enabled Lewis to follow her passion for helping young people, and use her skills she had acquired at the performing-arts school in San Diego. Lewis is known for having the courage to openly discuss taboo subjects without flinching. Her executives knew that this kind of gumption was the right stuff for a live show host," In 1996, on an installment of the show entitled "It Takes a Village," Lewis interviewed then-First Lady Hillary Clinton, whose book with that title had been published earlier in the year. Also in 1996 Teen Summit was nominated for a CableACE Award, and the next year the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) presented Lewis with an Image Award for her work on Black Entertainment Television (BET). Soon afterward the cable network MTV offered Lewis a position as a program host and video jockey. The thought of leaving Teen Summit was painful for her; indeed, several sources quoted her as recalling that she "cried for three weeks" while pondering her choices. In opting to move to MTV, the deciding factor was the possibility of greatly increasing the size of her viewing audience and, therefore, her potential for influencing America's youth.
Lewis hosted and VJed a variety of shows includingTotal Request Live, a daily top ten video-countdown show, and Hot Zone, which offered both music videos and Lewis's interviews of musicians and others. On one notable installment of The Hot Zone, she berated the rapper Q-Tip about the number of scantily clad dancers in one of his videos. In a reference to Lewis's broadcasting savvy, Bob Kusbit, MTV's senior vice president for production, told Douglas Century for the New York Times on November 21, 1999, "In the past our talent was sometimes just pretty people who could read cue cards. But when we brought Ananda to MTV, we decided we were going to do a lot more live television." MTV also called upon Lewis to host other, topical programs, including two MTV forums on violence in schools, which aired after the Columbine High School massacre and several memorial tributes for the singer Aaliyah, who perished in a plane crash in 2001. In 2001 Lewis earned another NAACP Image Award, for her hosting of the MTV special True Life: I Am Driving While Black.
In 1998, Lewis made headlines while at MTV when she announced, that she intended to remain abstinent for at least six months. She states:
I made the decision for selfish reasons, but I'm going public here because I realized I might be able to help other girls, too. I know the kind of drama that being sexually active brings to your life. I felt that if it was good for me to take a break, it might be good for other young girls, too. You see, I think I would be a whole different person if I hadn't had sex so early. Everybody was saying, "Do it!" but nobody ever said, "You don't have to do it". I think hearing that would have made a huge difference in my life.
Also during that period Lewis became a familiar presence at celebrity-attended events in and around New York City. "If you don't recognize the name Ananda Lewis, it may be because you're older than 23, or not a hip-hop star, or not a regular supplicant in the land of the velvet ropes," Century wrote at the height of Lewis's fame. "In the last year, Ms. Lewis has emerged as the hip-hop generation's reigning 'It Girl,' meaning she is not just an MTV personality but a woman whose looks and attitudes have made her perpetually in demand."
Later career
In 2000 People included Lewis on its list of the world's "50 Most Beautiful People." In 2001, Lewis decided to leave MTV in order to start her own talk show. The Ananda Lewis Show debuted on September 10, 2001, after much advance press in which Lewis was compared to Oprah Winfrey, the wildly popular talk-show host long considered to be one of the most powerful women of African American descent in television. Lewis continued to do special presentations for MTV after her show had begun. Lewis's series, which was syndicated by King World Productions, targeted women between the ages of eighteen and thirty-four by addressing such issues as domestic violence and breast cancer; it was billed as an alternative to the sensationalism and provocative offerings of Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake, whose talk shows were then dominating daytime ratings. Lewis's show aired on some WB and NBC stations before being canceled after one season. Her show's producers stated: "We started on a Monday and then there was the World Trade Center bombing the next day, and everything has become a mess since then," Roger King, the chairman and CEO of King World Productions and CBS Enterprises. Lewis then worked briefly for BET.
In 2004 Lewis became the chief correspondent on celebrity subjects for the nationally syndicated, nightly entertainment program The Insider, a spin-off of the popular Entertainment Tonight. In the spring of 2005, she interviewed Paris Hilton, Dylan Ryder, Don Cheadle and Ryan Phillippe (two of the stars of Paul Haggis's ensemble film Crash), and actress Dyan Cannon. Lewis herself has made guest appearances on several sitcoms.
In 2004 Ms. Lewis also appeared on the ABC network's reality show called Celebrity Mole: Yucatán. This reality series won an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement for Enhanced Television.
An avid animal lover, Lewis has served as co-host of the A&E television-network show America's Top Dog and as a spokesperson for the Humane Society. She has been known to frequently introduce her two pet chihuahuas to interviewers. She has also been a spokesperson for Reading Is Fundamental, a nonprofit literacy group.

Hostinger Review 2020: Is "For all intents and purposes Free" Better than "Free" for Hosting?
https://lephuocloc.com/three-for-one-hosting-review/
On the off chance that you're getting this, you're probably pondering whether Hostinger is a web encouraging association that can be trusted – and whether there's a stunt about their strong advancement assessing.
In this extraordinary review, we will truly research Hostinger and answer the going with essential requests:
Around the completion of this study you can find a select advancement code which licenses you to save 15% from your Hostinger demand, on top of all as far as possible and excellent offers you would as of now have the option to find on their site. Appreciate!
Fortuitously, when Hostinger were picking their picture name, they no doubt didn't foresee the a wide scope of ways it might be mistakenly spelled.. so on the off chance that you're here a direct result of filtering for hostenger or hosinger or even hostiger – basically understand that surely, that is a comparable association we're talking about here, so you're in the right spot :)
The Story of Hostinger
To give you an idea of precisely how gigantic Hostinger is, here are a couple of figures: the association starting at now has practically 30 million customers not simply in the US, UK, India and Indonesia, yet what's more in 170+ various countries (this is essentially every single country of the world!).
In addition, there are no signs of moving down – according to their data, Hostinger is up 'til now stretching out at a pace of 1 client at normal spans.
Right now Hostinger has destinations high-performant gear arranged in a couple of datacenters around the world: specifically, in the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Indonesia. An extra datacenter focused on Eastern Europe is foreseen the not all that far off future.
In any case, as you may expect, Hostinger hasn't by and large been the general goliath it is today. It started in 2004 as unassuming "Encouraging Media" in the little anyway rapidly creating country of Lithuania, arranged in the north-eastern bit of the European Union.
The originators of Hostinger didn't intend to follow the gathering and make basically one all the more encouraging organization – they set up the new association as for an innovative idea:
People would favor not to pay for our displaying – basically the encouraging: direct, strong, and as unassuming as could sensibly be normal.
After various years, this standard in spite of everything remains at the focal point of what Hostinger centers around, to be explicit extraordinary organizations at a close to zero expense.
Nevertheless, how does Hostinger achieve such reality? – you may honestly solicit – toward the end from the day, how might it make sense of how to minimize its expenses while keeping the quality high? I will explain soon – most importantly, we should look at the thing itself:
Which Hosting Plan Is Right for You?
There are a couple of kinds of encouraging offered on the authority Hostinger site, each with various assessing plans. This makes it a test to pick just one, considering that there are moreover extraordinary additional organizations and features included to no end cash based dependent upon the course of action.
We should center in and endeavor to understand the fundamental portions of encouraging – this will enable us to constrain our choice and reach the last final product.
We'll assess all of the three kinds of Hostinger's encouraging organizations, overall, examine this little table. It summarizes the most critical differentiations between encouraging sorts and gives the most generally perceived use cases:
Performance Sufficient for little and medium websites High execution for greater destinations and online projects Medium to high dependent upon the plan
Space for growth Rigid – need to climb to another encouraging plan Flexible – can incorporate more resources "on the fly" Very versatile – granular authority over resources
Cost level Low Medium Flexible
I accept that even from this table, the qualification between the three encouraging sorts that are offered by Hostinger is extremely clear, anyway we will moreover give hardly logically low down explanations underneath.
Before we go into nuances, nonetheless, we need to appreciate one key thought: the server. Essentially, it's a specific PC that stores locales and demonstrates them to your online visitors:
Any encouraging is a grouping of servers, mind blowing PCs which are moved up to stay online each moment of consistently/365 and show your website to any person who types in its area into their program.
Thusly, servers are essentially the standard section of any encouraging organization, and they can be used in different habits depending upon the client's necessities and money related arrangement. This is the spot the three encouraging sorts come in:
Common encouraging is a crucial structure for the people who are essentially starting or need to test their online endeavors with least employments. It's assigned "shared" in light of the fact that each server holds hundreds or even an enormous number of locales from various clients.
This gathers a lone server's benefits are used at the same time by various areas – fine for destinations which have moderate traffic, anyway can impact execution for greater locales.
On the positive side, shared encouraging is unfathomably unassuming and easy to use. This makes it ideal for private individuals and little undertakings which are just starting their way into the online world.
Business encouraging is a further evolved sort, sensible for greater locales which are required to have medium to high step by step traffic (a large number of customers for consistently and anything is possible from that point).
Hostinger's business encouraging uses what's called cloud advancements – your handling resources are not connected to a specific physical server, anyway are spread over different machines, which guarantees better adequacy and flexibility.
This also infers your encouraging resources are detached from each and every other site for this circumstance, which prompts by and large better, appeared differently in relation to shared encouraging.
All of these favorable circumstances incorporate some significant detriments, clearly – business encouraging is in a general sense logically exorbitant, with the most affordable course of action ("Startup" at $15.90 consistently) costing twice as much as the most expensive shared game plan ("Business" at $7.95 consistently). Unexpectedly, the last naming is very perplexing from my perspective – yet at this point we understand what's in store :)
VPS encouraging is the most versatile and the least straightforward encouraging sort offered by Hostinger. It signifies "Virtual Private Server", considering the way that for this circumstance a lone physical server runs a couple of individual conditions which don't get with each other using any and all means. It takes after having your own server, on the other hand, really it's an alleged "virtual" machine.
Such course of action thinks about most prominent flexibility – you can do almost anything you need with your virtual server, since you have official level authority over the entire structure.
Which appears fun, until you comprehend that you won't increase a beneficial force board with a VPS encouraging arrangement. In a manner of speaking, it's needy upon you to set up all parts of your virtual server.
This is the explanation such an encouraging is at the same time supportive for specialists who know absolutely what they're accomplishing (for instance programming architects and website specialists) and near futile for some other individual.
Given the specific features of each encouraging kind, I can make a reasonable proposal that you should in all probability pick the common sort. Why? In such a case, that you were addressing a tremendous business or a web progression association, you would realize all that I referenced in the past fragments.
That case aside, we ought to expect you need the basic encouraging – and see which of the three Hostinger Shared plans is the most reasonable choice.
On Hostinger's shared encouraging page you can see three offers: the Single course of action, assessed at $0.88 consistently, the Premium game plan, esteemed at $3.49 consistently, and the Business plan, evaluated at $7.95 consistently. I trust understand that these are remarkable progressions:
You can get these expenses if you demand a multi year pack, tinier periods cost hardly more (in case you ask me, a year group is commonly all that might be expected to grasp if you genuinely need a website, and test your online errand).
Such expenses are significant for the term of the group you demand, after that your encouraging will get deferred at a conventional rate.
Simply taking everything into account – these are both fundamental practices among encouraging gives, so nothing dubious about Hostinger in such way.
Every one of the three shared plans are equipped with everything that is significant for a basic start, including updated programming and hardware, so we will basically focus on the qualifications:
The Single game plan has too relatively few features and figuring power that is adequate only for the most diminutive of destinations, while the Business plan includes not a lot of focal points diverged from the Premium game plan while being twice as expensive.
Toward the day's end, the Premium game plan is the most balanced similar to features, over all it is the most economical course of action with a free space included.
What's more, it is the most affordable course of action to offer customized fortifications – and you will feel the handiness of this part the primary go through something happens to your site :)
To close, for the vast majority and little prescription

The Decline Of Photography
Nowadays, taking high-quality pictures is not hard to achieve. Why is this? The answer is the never-ending upgrades and improvements to the most popular technological invention: the iPhone. My goal here is to figure out if professional cameras will “die off” in the near future and to see what it is about an iPhone lens that makes a picture have such high quality attributes to it.
The first step into this process is looking at why taking pictures with the iPhone has slowly become more popular than carrying a camera around. For one, cameras are heavy and bulky to carry around, whereas the iPhone simply fits in your pocket, hand, or purse. This is easy and accessible when you’re in a hurry and want to take a quick snapshot of something around you. Going off of this point, when trying to take the right photo with a camera, it may take time to find the correct settings and get the best lighting. IPhone simply take one, quick button to capture a photo. https://www.better-digital-photo-tips.com/digital-camera-settings.html This article on digital photography by Bruce Lovelace (photographer himself) goes into depth on all of the camera settings and tips on how to get the right photo depending on the scene. After reading this, I understand just how complicated it can be to get the right photo with a camera. On the other side, one does not have to deal with nearly as many settings on an iPhone camera. In another article I found, the author, Lauren Crabbe, explains how unlike a digital camera’s settings, the iPhone camera settings do not allow you to change as much, thus proving that it is far more less complicated to take a photo on an iPhone than on a camera, but yet still take good looking photos:  https://www.macworld.com/article/2155341/how-to-adjust-your-iphone-cameras-settings.html.
Clearly there are definitely advantages to taking photos with an iPhone than carrying around a camera, but which technological invention actually takes the better quality photos?
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-vs-dslr,review-3386.html This article titled “Camera Face-Off,” published by Sam Rutherford, explains the mechanics of both forms of photography, using photo comparisons to show how a digital camera takes the win for better looking photos. The author explains how “..larger sensors, more megapixels, better controls, and interchangeable lenses” are just a few of the attributes to a digital camera that makes a picture’s quality better than an iPhone. He then goes on to say that “Apple's phone also suffers from a lack of resolution when compared to the D3300, as it features a 12-megapixel sensor versus 24-MP for the Nikon.” These are just a few of the hard facts that prove that a camera can take a better image in regards to quality than that of an iPhone. Of course, that is not to say that the iPhone camera is still impressive. https://www.tomsguide.com/us/improve-photos-iphone-6s-camera-app,review-3355.html In another article about the mechanics of an iPhone camera, Jackie Dove writes that the most recent iPhone “...has a 12 megapixel sensor, doubling the number of pixels from Apples previous smartphone and enabling 4K video recording. Paired with a five-element lens and f/2.2 aperture, the camera offers sharper images at larger sizes with enhanced low-light performance.” This only shows that Apple continues to make improvements to their camera mechanics and settings. If they keep heading in this same direction, we can only guess that iPhone picture quality may one day be as good as professional cameras, or even better.
So, this brings me to my next point; if digital cameras take far better-quality photos, then why are they slowly vanishing from society as the popular form of professional photography? The answer is social media. Today, we live in a world where social media is our source of communication. It’s no surprise that almost everyone you meet owns a smartphone considering that is the biggest form of communication and interaction. I’ve done a lot of research on how social media is growing and the most popular forms of it, and to no surprise, the apps that involve photography or posting photos are growing the most. https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2018/03/01/social-media-use-in-2018/ Aaron Smith and Monica Anderson write “Some 78% of 18- to 24-year-olds use Snapchat, and a sizeable majority of these users (71%) visit the platform multiple times per day. Similarly, 71% of Americans in this age group now use Instagram and close to half (45%) are Twitter users.” 78% Is a huge statistic to describe what most young Americans are using as a form of communication. Snapchat and Instagram are both apps literally made for photography. It’s a lot easier to just take a picture off of your iPhone and post it to snapchat or Instagram, which is why photography is increasingly getting more popular off of a smartphone. https://www.smartinsights.com/social-media-marketing/social-media-strategy/new-global-social-media-research/ Smart Insights takes a look at the growing number of social media users and just since 2018, “The number of social media users worldwide in 2019 is 3.484 billion, up 9% year-on-year (Chaffey).”  Just in one year, the number of users has gone up by 9% and it doesn't stop there. According to PhotographyTalk, there are “approximately 137 million pictures taken every hour” and the majority of these photos are being uploaded to social media because it is just that popular with today's generation. https://www.photographytalk.com/beginner-photography-tips/is-social-media-destroying-photography.
Now, this is where my big question comes in, is professional photography dying?  The amazing technological creation of the iPhone has made it so anyone is capable of taking pictures that look professional. Ashley Kornee writes “Some professional photographers are in such tough competition that they are lowering their prices to the point of not being able to make a living in the profession.” https://contrastly.com/is-professional-photography-dying/. Award-winning photographer, Antonio Olmos, also believes that photography is dying. He explains that “..the rise of photography in the 1850’s made painters of family portraits obsolete. Now, the same is happening to professional photographers.” This is a great comparison to prove that overtime, some things just die off because of the rise of another. The competition is tough for photographers with the rise of the iPhone’s high camera quality, but could that really “kill off” the photography profession? I believe that in the near future, photography will look different. Maybe wedding photographers will be taking pictures with a smartphone, and not a digital camera. Or maybe photographers for National Geographic will no longer be needed. The point is that iPhone camera quality is improving more and more, which is a good thing for those who love taking quick shots of, say a sunset, but this could mean the end of another career-photography.
