Not my favourite tengu but the best tengu

How I feel about this character

Hatate, the tengu journalist whom I actually respect! What I’m getting at is that she is great and I like her.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I’m gonna feel like I’m just listing the only two people she’s known to interact with but genuinely it’s a sweet ship, both Aya and Momiji and/or all three together. ayahata (ayahate? shameikaido?) has that great rivalry and mutual respect they have for each other’s newspaper despite their differing ideals, partially stemming from that generation gap, alongside deeper feelings sparking up. bird and wolf meanwhile is a pretty sweet relationship where i like to think Hatate cares not at all for anything the tengu hierarchy says about how they should act around each other and treats Momiji like she would anyone else, and Hatate bringing a particularly bright spot to Momiji’s work routine which she appreciates.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Rather than just saying ‘aya and momiji but platonic’, I am gonna just gonna spout out some fun ideas for character dynamics.

Compared to Aya, Hatate probably doesn’t often venture out too far away from youkai mountain, so when she does go out to do journalism, she probably most often runs into the kappa or minor gods. She may try to be professional but she can’t help but chat it up with the likes of Nitori (who finds her a little overbearing) and Hina (who appreciates that Hatate is too carefree to be worried about getting cursed [Hatate gets cursed by accident a few times])

In that same vein, wouldn’t it be funny if she just didn’t hold any bias towards oni and the underground like most tengu, since all that stuff is just ‘ancient history’ to her, so she’s literally the only tengu who will just casually go to the underground and be casual around Yuugi, who mistakes this naivete as bravery?

My unpopular opinion about this character

She might be a bit of a shut-in, and holes herself up for long periods of time when she really gets into a rhythm (or just gets lazy), but that doesn’t mean she’s a total hermit in isolation like some fanworks make her out to be! She has plenty energy to spare and is always eager to get that interview, even if she might be a little awkward about it.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I’d like for a one-off chapter of any manga where she tries out that whole “pretend to be a human in the village” thing like Aya does, but gives it up at the end because it’s way too stressful.

How I feel about this character

Another covert favourite, there is rarely a time where I am not either happily thinking about Akyuu, or sadly thinking about Akyuu. Between forbidden scrollery and her ragging on everyone in sopm, she’s always wonderful.

All the people I ship romantically with this character / My non-romantic OTP for this character

When it comes to romantic ships, the big one unsurprisingly is with Kosuzu. Long time literature-loving friends who care for each other deeply, Kosuzu being one of the few people who look past all the complicated history involved with the Hieda clan and just sees Akyuu for herself. And of course, no matter how many times a fanwork either does the ‘kosuzu becomes a youkai to akyuu’s terror’ or ‘kosuzu has to accept that akyuu has a much shorter lifespan than most’, or any other number of classic angst tropes associated with Akyuu, it always messes me up!!

The reason why I put the ‘ship’ and the ‘non-romantic otp’ sections together is because I think Akyuu has a lot of really fun potential dynamics with different characters, and even though some of them I could also like as a romantic ship, I think it makes fairly little difference in my mind (that might also apply to Kosuzu too, honestly), and I just want to talk about them all.

She’s got a neat working relation with Reimu (and by extension, Marisa), except none of them are particularly ‘professional’ about anything, so it often comes down to a lot of friendly jeering. The same applies to Eiki, though it’s a little more awkward to be buddy-buddy with someone you only expect to see when you die, but I think after enough reincarnations, Akyuu decided ‘why not get to know the judge a little better’.

She’s pretty familiar with a lot of residents in the human village, and is particularly close to Keine, who knew her in her previous life, and they often discuss how to handle their compact little society. She’s also pretty familiar with certain youkai who make it their business to interact with the village often such as Aya and Reisen, and over the course of her being like ‘im keeping an eye on you’, they kinda become weird friends. Just imagine Aya regularly harassing the Hieda estate for news.

This bit about youkai most applies to her and Mamizou, with whom she’s definitely weird friends with, both having a deep understanding but also a great appreciation for why the Human Village works the way it does. They also have mutual fondness of Kosuzu, though Akyuu will always worry just a little bit about Mamizou’s influence on both of them...

My unpopular opinion about this character

I don’t think I have one, because I think I have... every opinion of Akyuu? Does she feel burdened and anguished by her role as Child of Miare? Is she happy for the opportunities that her role and power bring? Does she lament her shortened lifespan and believes her past memories to be ‘false’? Is she content with it and believes her next reincarnation is a chance for her to experience more of life?

I like to think these are all true. Obviously not all at the same time, her life just has lots of ups and downs.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I was going to type ‘I would like for her to live :)’ but i don’t think I’d actually want to like remove her short lifespan, even if it’s not a trait we’ll ever see come to light in canon (I guess i’m evil...)

But hey, we saw her go from a child to an adult. How about in the next touhou gumon, she otherwise looks the same but has a grey streak in her hair.

Speaking of, how about another touhou gumon!? I want one almost as much as I want another hifuu CD!!

i've always tried to avoid anti nonsense and general fandom negativity, no matter what fandom it is, it makes things less stressful and more fun. but when i’m sitting in my dumpster and happen upon some bullshit its uhh difficult for me to not say something

so lemme fuckin tell y'all

i am not here for any anti-dave / anti-klave commentary ever. i dont want to see even a hint of it and so running into it, while reading the comments on a klave post bc i like to read other peoples love for their love, is so fucking annoying. now i guess it was partially my bad for reading comments in the first place BUT given my tua fandom experiences thus far i had no reason to expect such bullshit. so.. i was reading a short post about them staying together and then there were shitty replies and reblogs and a fight and im just like ????? with plenty of instant irritation.

nobody - NOBODY - cares that you think klaus continuing his relationship with ghost!dave would be "unhealthy" (which.. no*) or that you want klaus to get closure and move on OR that fuck dave klaus should just get a new boyfriend. if that's how you feel make your own post, keep it in your own negative space, i dont wanna fucking see it. nor do i wanna have any interaction with you AT ALL if im being honest

*y'all really be overusing words AND y'all be doing so wildly and incorrectly. no i will not expand on that, i will not explain to you why it's wrong (at least not right now because lord knows i'll probably get drunk later and decide to word vomit my feelings about klave again)

like... okay. listen. there's enough negativity around here and enough stories where happiness doesnt last - especially for gay characters - and i just want them to be allowed to have that happiness no matter how unique or improbable the situation. if heteros can get shit like that then why cant we?? the love at first sight and soulmates and 'you're the only one for me' and the happy ending. beating all the odds to be together! if anyone deserves it it's klaus - all on his own, he's suffered enough thanks - but also with dave - he's the love of klaus's life, who treated him with all the love and kindness and respect he hadn't experienced before, who made klaus genuinely happy and who made him want to be better - not by forcing him or guilting him but by loving him like.. fuck off if you dont think that's the best otp shit

for those whose issue is the lack of dave in s1:: yeah the show may not have given us a lot of info on dave, which sucks, but cody ray thompson provided AND ALSO there's all of the fic writers in this fandom who write klave - who have fleshed dave out to be a real and deep character (god bless each and every one of you. you're doing the lord's work) enough so that there are a lot of consistencies across the board, things that stay the same from writer to writer. he's a whole real character! the shows lack of a backstory for him doesnt make dave unimportant or disposable or less valid as a love interest. especially not when the fandom got hold of him

current flower fairy in charge was another girlfriend of now-passed flower immortal. now raising her kid jinmi with her new girlfriends. everything was fine until the fire nation attacked (*xufeng)

jinmi is ace aro and the world lets her stay that way! but if she had to say she cares about anyone a lot, she’d of course name her family and friends, and ROUROU, who she’s going to SAVE.

runyu is BI because he’s a sweetie pie and a good boy and a cutie with a heart of gold that melts when he gets compliments, so he deserves to be bi that’s all im saying

is xufeng bi? Well... i mean... idk maybe he’d go for jinmi even if jinmi was a boy... but does xufeng also like to bring up compulsory heterosexuality like ‘marriage is between a man and a woman’ hell YEAH he does. hell yeah he broke up a perfectly fine lesbian wedding proposed by yubei to jinmi, all cause of gender, so regardless of if he’s straight xufeng is in the way of happiness so he can go through some... character growth to say the least.

his dad? idk im not sure, all i am SURE of is that his dad is a stale piece of toast with no personality and if it weren’t SOLELY for runyu... the kingdom is already run by empress so like, why even keep the dad around really? empress mom just wants xufeng on the throne and... honestly at this point (episode 6) runyu would probably be FINE with his brother as the emperor, as long as it was xufeng calling the shots instead of mother empress.

fox uncle immortal? he can be pan. why not. love is love and he’s the god of it. he’s the expert.

whatever that little eel-monster guy is who’s jinmi’s best friend? what’s his name poubi or something? he can be pan. he’s cool. he’s neat. he’s a caring kind guy, he’s a good best friend. he’d be great. in a better world, maybe him and runyu hook up - when runyu eventually realizes jinmi was not Actually flirting, and just being genuinely complimentary, and so runyu becomes her best friend and lets go of his crush. runyu just deserves happiness at this point. he could also get with that new soldier recruit that showed up to his house and thought he was cool. she seems nice and genuine.

that demon girl who fought xufeng in the demon realm? ONLY person i think might be okay romantically with xufeng - if only cause they both seemed to have fun, both enjoyed themselves, and both seem to have things in common.

anyway friendship jinmi/rourou is otp, all others step aside, special place in my heart for a side of runyu/happiness whatever that would be. with lots of hopeless lesbians in the ensemble falling for jinmi, realizing jinmi isn’t interested cause she just isnt into love, and then falling for each other.

WHY can’t i have a perfect bi love triangle side plot of!!! bird immortal princess!! in love with xufeng AND jinmi!!! and so confused about what she should do and how she should handle it!!! slowly realizing jinmi isn’t even competing with her!! and then ENDING with xufeng needing to prove he’s even worth either of their’s time. why cant i...

Okay I was initially going to with another much older fc (gary oldman & catherine zeta-jones XD) when you sent me this yesterday, but now I’ve been filled with so much Melissa Benoist muse that I have to tell you my story of my most favourite past rping experience with a Melissa Benoist fc. Okay, so I joined this pairs rp and after looking through the open pairs list, I then decided to choose the Melissa fc muse as my character’s pair, after I had read thru the mun’s bio write-up on her & in my mind at that moment, her character seemed like she would make a good & interesting match for my very angsty & complex muse. At that point of time, I liked Melissa both as an actress & an fc but I haven’t really fallen in love with her yet. And to add a small interesting angle to this story, it was a quite an unusual pairing, because my fc was a Daniel Gilles fc and at that time, I had never seen any crackships with both Melissa and Daniel before, so that was a small new thing to me.

BUT OMMGGGG, HOWWWWW WELL DID THAT SMALL CHOICE OF MINE & PAIRING TURNED OUT TO BE!!:D IT WAS SO AMAZING, I TRULY CAN’T FIND ENOUGH WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW WONDERFUL THAT CHANCE ENCOUNTER WAS FOR ME TO MEET ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING & DARLING WRITING PARTNER I HAVE EVER MET IN ALL MY YEARS OF RPING & TO RAPIDLY GET TO KNOW HER AND BONDED WITH HER SO WELL ONE OF OUR TOPMOST BELOVED RPING OTP’S UP TILL CURRENTLY. And it is a quite a slow-burn ship tbh, but that made us love them all the more, as we got to plot and hc like thousands of future plots and hcs for them in their very interesting and long rollercoaster journey ride of their slow, but beautifully blossoming relationship. My partner’s character made me fall hard in love with Melissa and by now I love Melissa’s fc even so so much more wherever I went. And both my partner and I just SCREAM, GIGGLE UNCONTROLLABLY, RE-READ OVER & OVER AGAIN & CRY over each reply we made with our respective characters and we’ve come up with so many potential plots & hcs for them that it’s insane.

And as for my incredible partner and very dear friend, she has turned out to be this extremely genuine, warm, loving and incredibly supportive person in my life whom I care about deeply and adore to bits up to infinity & beyond!! We’re still in touch, and tbvh, we’re still actually writing our threads as a 1x1 ship as our muses are only on Stage B of their relationship journey, but due to our respectively busy & eventful lives, we can only do them once in a while during these past several months. I would tag her in here, but her personal blog is currently not so active recently, so she might not see it. But actually, Dilan dear, after looking at both your blogs, I think you know this girl, very, very well & i’m not surprised that you both became besties too as you’re both such incredible & awesome angels!! xxx!! I used to really dig itthe first month or so after getting really into it when S2 aired. T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons thatyou will die defending?

Not really. I’m a very flexible person when it comes tointerpretable lore and content, especially if it’s the type of HCs that thefandom collectively comes up with. Unless it’s a canon fact, I like to dabble orjust stay away from HCs in general. If I have to come up with some in my fics,then so be it. But most of the time these HCs are either super vague or onlyapply to the context in this particular piece or series of writing. Basically Idon’t mind switching HCs for charas frequently as long as it does notfundamentally change their own character. (HCs for hobbies and loves and habitsand relationships apart from their inner circle, etc. are all fine)

Honestly it just boils down to expectations lol I know myown limits, and I know not to be disappointed when canon updates end updebunking (popular) fandom HCs or my own.
