Just jolted awake at 5 AM to share this idea lmao:

Cosmic Storm: Accidental Alt-Mode Swap Scenario

Some kind of cosmic electrical storm hits the Lost Light and everyone switches alt-modes

They can't figure out how this is even possible, best they can figure is that one of the waves of cosmic electricity rolled over the ship and bypassed their shields enough to affect the crew, just this huge arc of space electricity scrambling everyone all at once

And as it arcs from crew member to crew member (and zaps the shit out of the ship too), somehow this messes with everyone's systems enough that their t-cogs all attempt to reboot while everyone is still connected by the cosmic storm energy

Which results in everyone's t-cogs getting alt-mode data confused, as everyone simultaneously tries to stabilise their systems by purging stored energy so they don't get fried, so because they're all connected by this singular pulse of space bullshit it's like one massive accidental transfer of spark energy, personal systems data, and cosmic electroshock

It's 5 AM sorry if I'm not explaining this very well LOL

But nobody dies, and their systems actually seem to be relatively OK afterwards as far as they can tell, so nobody actually realises there's a problem until First Aid and/or Ratchet asks everyone to book in follow up appointments for full systems checks just to be sure

And as part of checking t-cog function whoever the first patient of the day is gets asked to transform briefly as part of a physical exam designed to help spot any non-critical t-cog damage

And there's no t-cog damage, not to the t-cog itself. Scans come back okay, everything looks good, so OK, time to proceed with the transformation test. Root mode to alt-mode, and then back to root mode.

If the t-cog and associated systems are functional, it should be pretty straightforward.

And the bot does successfully transform...

..Just, into the wrong alt-mode.

And immediately, The Problem Of The Day becomes clear.

Gradually people around the ship figure it out on their own as well, while the Med Bay staff are trying to figure out what the fuck is going on

Over in the Science Lab, Perceptor is messaging Ratchet frantically because he's realised the problem as soon as he tried to switch into his alt-mode to study some samples of a metal panel from the ship which has some damage from the cosmic electricity and uh oh turns out he's a fucking helicopter now

It's a problem that also alters their root modes, but only after their first transformation post-space storm. Something fully triggers whatever is wrong with their t-cog data only once they enter alt-mode, their root modes then re-configure to accommodate these changes following that initial "wrong" transformation sequence.

They have their own colours, their paint nanites etc. remain the same as always, but their modes have changed. So they get any kibble etc. that might come with that new alt-mode.

So Brainstorm goes to pick up some energon for both of them, then comes back and Perceptor suddenly has rotors and holy shit

Eventually everyone on board figures out something weird/potentially bad is happening with their t-cogs. Some people are too scared to test it and find out, while others immediately can't resist their curiosity or think it's better to figure out as soon as possible so they can adapt, and test it as soon as they hear some bots are just turning into completely different things, totally reconfigured.

This could be fun, also sort of terrifying (there is potential for body horror to some degree), and either way it's chaos.

When Drift triggers his alt-mode, he turns into a cat-- Seems like he's got Ravage's t-cog data. Nobody can find Ravage, and Megatron makes it clear that he'll be the only one to attempt to find him.

Rodimus turns into some kind of aqueous vehicle. Maybe Camien in origin. (Turns out it's Nautica's t-cog data.) He's fine with it as soon as he realises he's space flight capable for short distances and Magnus has to talk him out of trying to race the ship.

Of course, because it's Nautica's t-cog data, when he reverts back to root mode, he has a distinctly femme Camien-style frame. He loves it, because his armour isn't as heavy in this form, so he can go faster. (Once this is all over, he is strongly considering keeping some of these femme frame alterations...)

And if you want to use this as a setup for any shipping, yes indeed, some bots inevitably try to test out their newly altered frames with their partners or amicas. (The medical staff all advise against this because oh god nobody knows all the functions of their new systems yet, please do not end up in the Med Bay with "makeout related injuries" they are dealing with so much right now LOL)

Anyway my moving date is 25/01 but as soon as I'm settled into my new place I might turn this into a fic if I have time lmao

everyone jokes about Megatron being old but god dammit now I want some actual old Megatron representation, I love this concept so much <3 <3 <3

here are some suggestions based on me, because I’m old and this has been my personal experience with time not stopping and therefore I continue to get even older lmao

Megatron having shitty vision/hearing.

I feel like most people fixate on the shitty vision so I will fixate on the shitty hearing in this post, lol

To be fair in my case, my vision has always been bad and I’m hearing disabled so my hearing aids are for that and not necessarily directly related to age (although ageing sure as hell does not help), but I would love some kind of bullshit Cybertronian hearing aids that go on with magnets or something

like oh my god I would love hearing aids that didn’t constantly need to be recharged or have batteries swapped out, I bet Cybertronian hearing aids would just somehow run on the user’s spark energy or something, or have a power cell that is energon-fuelled and it just runs almost forever off a tiny capsule filled with energon in each one and it’s not a problem

it would be hilarious if it were actually really common for a lot of older bots to need hearing aids due to natural inner audial receptor fatigue occurring over time or something similar, and it’s just so risky to try to replace those components due to where they are located in the helm relative to critical processor components that most people just never bother to fuck with it and opt for hearing aids because that’s way less of a potential issue

fun scenarios: Rodimus is actually relatively young and never really had many elders around for most of his formative years, so this shit is New to Him

Rodimus sees Megatron doing the once-every-10,000-years energon capsule battery switch-out for his hearing aids in the captain’s lounge one day and immediately is like DRIFT, DRIFT DID YOU FUCKING KNOW ABOUT THIS

and Drift just sighs and is like yeah he was a miner, it’s not like that helped his hearing situation at all

but Rodimus texts Ratchet anyway like DID YOU KNOW and Ratchet responds by sending a photo of his own hearing aids back

and Rodimus is just totally fucking mind blown that this is Absolutely A Thing

(and he then also promptly low key internally starts freaking out at the prospect of one day also needing hearing aids; Drift picks up on it and is like don’t worry about it but Rodimus does in fact Worry About It A Little Bit because what if his inevitable hearing aids fall out during a race or while meteor surfing or some shit oh god oh fuck, lmao dude I feel you)

bonus: Megan’s hearing aids get fucked up one day after one too many hits to the helm during a fight, then while they are being repaired Megs and Drift communicate primarily through Cybertronian hand-signing, everyone else is bewildered, Rodimus does his best to learn but fucks up and now his sign name is something terrible forever LOL

Megatron forgetting his cane fucking EVERYWHERE.

quick shout out to my friends IRL who have on many occasions grabbed my cane and brought it back to me on days when I need a cane (mostly for balance because lol POTS) but I constantly fucking forget it until they retrieve it for me whenever I leave it up against a wall or door or some shit, I owe u my life <3

I like this concept because we know that Megatron’s personal holo-emitter generated a cane for him in MTMTE/Lost Light automatically

(granted, he immediately poofed it out of existence seemingly due to internal ableism and potential ableism/ageism from others, but that’s another post I have in the works for another day lol)

however!!! he started out with a cane, and we know that holo-emitters do (to at least some degree) customise their human forms based on certain aspects of personality, although they can obviously be tailored further as desired to refine their personal representation of themselves via hologram

and I like that instantly his subconscious processor output was like “yeah no we need a cane if we’re going to be doing human shit today”

so I like to imagine that if he kept the cane in holo-form OR if he gets a cane for joint wear etc. even on a temporary basis until Ratchet/First Aid/Velocity can fix him up (as much as possible anyway lol) he would just forget that shit all over the place

Swerve would figure out soon enough to just store it behind the bar on occasions where Megs just gets up from the booth and forgets it on poetry night lmao

Ratchet would have a wrist loop made for it, but Megs would still lose that shit constantly

he’d get halfway back to his habsuite after a shift on the Bridge and be like “why the fuck is my balance so shitty, why do things hurt-- oh god dammit”

and then right when he’s about to turn right back around and go get it, Cyclonus would just walk by without a word and hand it to him and keep walking, or some shit

bonus: Ravage would be a Good Friend and retrieve the cane whenever he realises Megs has once again fucked up and left it somewhere. I really love the mental image of Ravage trying to walk around with this huge cane in his mouth like a dog trying to carry around a huge stick, just trotting down the hallway like “oh shit where did he go, I found the cane, now I have to find Megatron” lol

IDK it’s fun to think about bots being old <3
