One of the final shots for a project I photographed for Boston staffing agency @hollister_institute over the course of a week. The idea I came up with was to capture earth, fire, water and air for a new holistic leadership program created by Hollister. 3,000+ photos, 50+ models, 8+ locations and 2 months of prep time. Organizing six separate shoots took a lot of energy and an all hands on deck approach. We shot on the charles river on kayaks, in a farm outside the city, on rooftops, in offices, mediation rooms and kitchens. Production manager and art director @gmwll took the lead on helping find locations and models for the shoots. Big thanks to @trimark_usa and @idbldg for letting us shoot in their baller kitchens. Model @manueljrtarango shown here making a pizza pie 🍕 for us and leading the charge. Fun times collaborating with the design agency Sherman Group. Swipe to see a detail shot of the dough. Alright, I know what I’m making for dinner tonight! #idbldg #eaterboston #pizzamania #pizzapie #pizzalife (at The Innovation and Design Building) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_7YOubgJuv/?igshid=h2gunutzr0mu

Mass. Customization: YourReebok Flagship Opens in Boston
Reebok is stepping further into customization with its new Boston flagship store, where customers can design Classic Leather sneakers and t-shirts on-site. The YourReebok Customization Shop opened Monday at an event with football star Brandin Cooks and gymnast Aly Raisman at what is now the brand’s largest location anywhere at 7,600 square feet.

“We felt it was important to create experiences, and one way to do that is to have handmade custom Classic Leathers — an iconic model — brought to life,” Paul Froio, Reebok’s VP U.S. retail, told the Boston Herald. “Building a shoe from scratch, with a customer interacting with Lou (Alberghini) or another shoemaker, is something that most people have never seen.”
Opening TODAY at 4pm, @Reebok’s 7,600 sq. ft. retail shop features a customization lab where visitors can create a personalized t-shirt in 20 minutes. See our grand opening IG stories until 7:30 and check us out the next 10 days as we highlight why @Reebok is such an incredible addition to our community. #10DaysofReebok

Alberghini has worked for Reebok for 21 years and been a shoemaker for 38. He follows his father and grandfather in the shoemaking trade and hatched the idea after a meeting with Reebok President Matt O’Toole. “When me and Matt were talking one day at work we came up with the idea—’Hey, let’s just do what we do. Why not make shoes?’ It sounds easy but no one’s out there really doing it.”
We’re proud to welcome global fitness and lifestyle brand @Reebok to the IDB. In the words of their president Matt O’Toole, they’re ready to “integrate what [they’re] doing with a much broader group of innovators.” #10DaysOfReebok

The YourReebok customization shop is in the Innovation and Design Building in Boston’s Seaport District, adjacent to Reebok’s employee gym and below the company’s three-story global headquarters, which is set to open in December.

The customization process involves crowning, roughing and cementing to craft a Reebok pair of leather sneakers that may sell for $85 to $120 a pair and can be made in an hour or less. The store will rotate leather hide options every six weeks and the idea will expand to other Reebok stores.
The store has four digital touchscreens so customers can design graphic t-shirts and accessories that are printed on the spot in about 15 minutes, priced between $35-$45, and demoed here by Reebok VP US Retail Paul Froio:

“It’s not required this is a beautiful showroom back here… this is a workshop. These guys are making product on the spot,” Froio said. “We’ll provide the graphics now, and eventually we’ll allow customers to bring in their own artwork.”
“You get to leave with the sense of ‘I did it myself over at Reebok,'” Alberghini added.

Reebok already offers online shoe customization in markets including the U.S., Canada and Japan, so bringing DIY personalization to life in a physical brand experience is a big step.
The new Boston flagship’s open-space floorplan includes high ceilings and natural-rock floors that maintain the atmosphere of the 100-year-old Innovation and Design Building.
Peter Quagge, Reebok’s Director of Global Environmental Design, said the new flagship store’s design diverts from the “darker concept” of woods and plywood at previous Reebok stores and those of the brand’s competitors.
“It’s about being part of the community and being a good neighbor and having Boston know more about our brand tomorrow than they know today,” Froio said.

#Repost @bengebo ・・・ This is the second to last photo I’m releasing on my insta from this shoot. @nicksullivan_art had an idea for capturing something in motion. So here he is ripping up the back alley way to the @idbldg! 🔸 I set up two strobes to freeze Nick as he was biking by. We captured two dozen takes until I found the shot with the right balance of motion blur and stillness. The key to making a shot like this work is to pan the camera on the subject as he cruised by using a slow shutter speed. Here, 1/30 of a second was perfect. 🔸 This was the final shot of the day, which is probably what inspired that smile! (at Asia/Kuwait)

Another capture from my recent shoot with @nicksullivan_art at the @idbldg. While it was bright daylight, we were in the shade of an alleyway that I lit with two strobes. A closed down aperture allowed for the moody look. 🔸 I used a key light on the right side to shine on Nick. To the left, I set up a bare bulb to skim the background for texture and bring out more detail on the motorcycle. (at Boston Design Center)

I had a hell of a time collaborating with artist and motorcyclist @nicksullivan_art on a photo shoot yesterday. We worked in an alley next the @idbldg ripping up the street and creating auditory havoc to those working. Sorry, design center folks! 🔸 We shot for nearly three hours. It was the first time in over a year where I had longer than a half hour to spend with my portrait subject. Nick is such an enthusiastic guy and a solid model. We spent a lot of time working on posed images but finished off the shoot with some motion shots. I’m so looking forward to sharing these photographs over the next few posts. Stay tuned, this one was an adrenaline fueled blast! (at Boston Design Center)
