From reading up on what my aunt knows about the DC character Harley Quinn, she admits she doesn’t know that character much which brings up the question over how famous that character actually is. Though the character does appear fairly often on television, in comics, video games and recently movies she’s not that as well-known as Batman is. 

Then again Batman has been around longer and more frequently, so it would take time for her to become as iconic as he is. This may not be true for all DC characters, but I think any one of the Arrowverse characters would also be just as obscure. Perhaps not helped by the fact that Arrowverse programmes tend to have rather low ratings, so they’re semi-obscure at best.

No doubt it would take time to familiarise oneself with these characters, but ubiquity is another matter where if these programmes have such low ratings and air at certain channels then the general public wouldn’t know them much. Considering how popular association football is globally, well in most places that is, more people know Steven Gerrard and Kevin Keegan than they do with Felicity Smoak and Andy Diggle.

These characters are geek famous, popular with geeks but not with the general public. For every Spider-Man and Batman, there’s a Green Arrow that people even those like myself aren’t that familiar with well that much. Likewise for authors, more people would’ve heard of an Anne Rice than they do with a John Ostrander. Then again she’s more popular so.

It might be possible to propel a semi-obscure character to stardom, if Marvel’s any indication, but even then not everybody will be this familiar with the characters if they’re not that exposed to them. If football’s more objectively popular than Arrow is, more people would’ve heard of or encountered any mention of Geoff Hurst than they do with Oliver Queen.

I might be talking from personal experience, since I have a book by this man, but considering that Arrow has had rather low ratings which gets complicated by that some people don’t even have television and they watch other kinds of things so it’s not anybody’s fault why he’s not that well-known.

Perhaps it’s a harsh fact of life that not everybody knows who Harley Quinn and Felicity Smoak are, since they’re not too exposed to these characters often and these characters would be new to them if they ever start catching wind of them at all.

FIFA 23: What Qualifies As Lengthy?

For a player to fall under the Lengthy category, they must abide by the following rules:

Agility equal to or greater than 65

Strength – Agility is equal to or greater than 14

Acceleration equal to or greater than 55

Height is equal to or greater than 174cm

A player that passes all of the above requirements will naturally fall under the FIFA 23 AcceleRATE category of Lengthy, which lets players build up to a fast spring after a short period of slowness. However, as long as the height requirements are met, you can play around with some players’ stats to turn them into a Lengthy player.

Architect is the most common chemistry style to use for this, as it gives the biggest stat boost to Strength at 15, but you can also use Sniper, Marksman, Hawk, Sentinel, Backbone, and Anchor, all to varying degrees of success.

One thing to be very careful of is making sure that you don’t remove the Lengthy status from a player who has it as default. Using chemistry styles that boost agility have the potential to do this, as the player might just be on the fringes of the requirements.

Seven classic England v Germany meetings

England go to Germany on Tuesday in the Nations League in the latest instalment of one of their biggest rivalries.

Gareth Southgate's side beat Die Mannschaft in their last meeting in the Euro 2020 last 16, their first knockout win over their old rivals since the 1966 World Cup final.

Between those games, the Germans had the upper hand in major tournaments - although there was also a very famous win in qualifying for the Three Lions.

1966 World Cup final

Throwback to when England won the World Cup

England's finest football hour came against West Germany, winning the 1966 World Cup final 4-2 at Wembley.

Helmut Haller gave the Germans the lead before Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters goals turned it round. Had Wolfgang Weber not equalised in the 89th minute, England would have won 2-1 but without the iconic moments that were to follow.

Hurst scored twice in extra time - the first being adjudged to have crossed the line in an era before goalline technology - for the only ever World Cup final hat-trick. The late clinching goal was met with the famous piece of BBC commentary from Kenneth Wolstenholme - "there are people on the pitch, they think it's all over. It is now".

1970 World Cup

West German came from 2-0 down against England at the 1970 World Cup

West Germany got some revenge four years later when they came back from 2-0 down to beat England in the quarter-finals.

Alan Mullery and Peters put England in control but an error from keeper Peter Bonetti let in Franz Beckenbauer's effort and Uwe Seeler sent it to extra time.

Hurst had a goal disallowed and Gerd Muller volleyed in for 3-2 and the German win.

1990 World Cup

World Cup 1990 - England v Germany: England lose on penalties

In what would become a recurring theme, England were knocked out by Germany (or West Germany) on penalties in the 1990 World Cup semi-final.

The game ended 1-1, with the West Germans leading through a deflected Andreas Brehme free-kick before Gary Lineker's equaliser with 10 minutes to go.

Paul Gascoigne's tears - and Lineker's reaction to the bench - after a yellow card that would have ruled the midfielder out of the final have gone down in folklore.

In the end he need not have worried because Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle's missed penalties in the shootout meant Germany went to the final instead, where they beat Argentina.

Oh look, another penalty shootout defeat by Germany in a major tournament semi-final.
