I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988) 88 Minutes, Rated R
I never would have watched this and it was funny! That's why this blog still suits me - although not that many people read what I have to say about these many many movies I watch - I still enjoy watching them and sharing them with you.
I was a huge In Living Color fan and wanted to be a fly girl - this movie came out before In Living Color. Oh and it's a hoot - and a love letter to Blaxploitation movies. Keenan Ivory Wayans loved them so much he put a lot of the actors from the Blaxploitation era in this movie. And Keenan's mom is played by the incomparable Ja'Net DuBois (Good Times). She's fantastic.
Tumblr media
The story goes that people in Keenan's community are overdosing on gold, O.G.ing. And when one body turns up - covered head to toe in gold chains - the question that everyone asks is, "How'd he go to the bathroom?"
Tumblr media
And don't blink or you'll miss Eve Plumb (Jan Brady) as the braided wife of the Black Power leader. Now that's a lovely lady!

Remembering Jim Brown 1936-2023
NFL football star, activist and actor Jim Brown has died at 87. In the 2020 movie One Night in Miami (read my review here), Brown was played by Aldis Hodge and he talks about starting to act and get involved with the civil rights movement at that point and time, 1964.
In terms of his movie career (beyond everything else he accomplished), he had great supporting turns in The Dirty Dozen, The Running Man, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, Original Gangstas (not one of his best movies, but it was cool to see him, Fred Williamson and Pam Grier co-starring in a movie), He Got Game, Small Soldiers, and Any Given Sunday. But one of his coolest scenes was when he fought an alien in Mars Attacks!.

Robin Hughes Harris (August 30, 1953 – March 18, 1990) was an American comedian and actor, known for his recurring comic sketch about "Bé-bé's Kids". He was posthumously nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male for his performance in film House Party.
Robin Harris was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 1961, the family moved to Los Angeles, where he attended Manual Arts High School. Harris then attended Ottawa University in Kansas. According to The Washington Post, "...in the funeral program was a picture of him as a lean high school track star. He earned an athletic scholarship to Ottawa University in Kansas, and he never gave up playing basketball."
During this time, he began to hone his craft of comedy. He worked for Hughes Aircraft, a rental car company, and Security Pacific Bank to pay his bills. In 1980, he debuted at Los Angeles' Comedy Store.
During the mid-1980s, Harris worked as the master of ceremonies at the Comedy Act Theater. His "old school" brand of humor began to gain him a mainstream following. Harris made his acting debut playing a bartender in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988). Harris also had roles in 1989's Do the Right Thing and Harlem Nights. Harris played the father of Kid in House Party (1990). He followed up later that year with a small role as a jazz club MC in Mo' Better Blues.
In Harris' "Bé-bé's Kids" routines, Harris' girlfriend Jamika would insist that he take her son and her friend Bé-bé's three children with them on a date, as she continually agreed to babysit them. The children would regularly make a fool out of and/or annoy Harris. "We Bé-bé's kids", they would proclaim, "we don't die...we multiply."
The Hudlin Brothers had intended to make a feature film based upon the "Bé-bé's Kids" sketches, but Harris died while the film was in pre-production. Bébé's Kids instead became an animated feature. It was directed by Bruce W. Smith and featured the voices of Faizon Love (as Harris), Vanessa Bell Calloway, Marques Houston, Nell Carter, Jonell Green, Rich Little, and Tone Lōc.
In the early hours of March 18, 1990, Harris died in his sleep of a heart attack in the hotel room of his hometown Chicago's Four Season Hotel after performing for a sold out crowd at the Regal Theater, at the age of 36. At the time of Harris's death, his wife was pregnant with their son, Robin Harris, Jr., who was born six months later, in September 1990.
In 2006, a posthumous DVD, titled We Don't Die, We Multiply: The Robin Harris Story (2006), was released. The film features never-before seen performances by Harris and accolades from such contemporaries as Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac, Cedric the Entertainer, D. L. Hughley, Robert Townsend, and Joe Torry. The film features a rap performed and dedicated to Harris by his son, Robin, Jr.

Happy 51st Birthday to Marlon Wayans.
Born July 23, 1972, He is an actor, comedian, screenwriter, and film producer, beginning with his role as a pedestrian in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka in 1988.
He frequently collaborates with his brother Shawn Wayans, as he was on The WB sitcom The Wayans Bros. and in the comedic films Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, White Chicks, Little Man, and Dance Flick. However, Wayans had a dramatic role in Darren Aronofsky's critically acclaimed Requiem for a Dream, which saw his departure from the usual comedies.

We have lost another legend. My heart broke this morning when I learned legendary actor and fellow Oklahoman, Clu Gulager passed away yesterday. I grew up watching him chew up scenes in A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, Return Of The Living Dead and I'm Gonna Git U Sucka! He was an incredible that commanded your attention in every scene he was in and I'm really going to miss him. RIP Clu Gulager...thank you for sharing your gift with the world. #CluGulager #ripclugulager #anightmareonelmstreet2freddysrevenge #returnofthelivingdead #imgonnagitusucka

i was tagged by @elnotwoods to post six recent favorite songs - here you go:
Chatting with @shortpplfedup about music and My School President put me back in my feelings about 90s era music.
I've also been thinking about TLC a lot lately.
Been back on my Christine and the Queens kick lately as well.
I'm not sure why I keep returning to this Bon Iver song lately.
I watched I'm Gonna Git You Sucka last night, and I felt called out for liking Bruce Springsteen's most popular hits.
Bob Seger has also been on my mind.
I don't think I'll tag anyone, but tag me if you do this. I'm trying to get out of my own musical funk.
