Comet Chasers - Re-Review #21
Don’t mind us sitting by the pool, we’ve just been animated in to prove we still exist because we won’t be featuring or playing a big part in this episode. And because we are capable of doing things other than rescuing people.
Tumblr media
Yeah, in fairness, this is something they did do a really good job of (in most places, we won’t bring EOS into the debate) in just little shots.
Grandma waking Alan up is priceless!
“You were flying in your sleep again.”
“No... Maybe.”
Exactly how many times has Alan reminded them I wonder?
“Did you know we won’t see it again for another 75 years?”
“It’s not the first time you’ve reminded us of that, Alan. Or the second. Or the third. Or the-”
Alan making you feel old, Scott? Because let’s face it, Scott probably wouldn’t live to see it again, and if he did he’d be quite old to see it properly. So yeah, Alan’s probably making him feel old - or at least, that’s my vote.
“Uh, uh, Franci-what-his-name!”
“Francois Lemaire here.”
“Close enough.”
Whatever you say Alan... We’ll just run with it.
“What a magnificent ball of fire and ice.”
“Actually it’s just ice.”
Yeah, we’ll go with whatever you say Lemaire.
“It’s a risky move, but as long as he stays out the comet’s tail, he’ll probably be ok.”
“I had planned to make this a fly by, but it would be a shame not to see it a little closer. So I have decided this very moment to go inside the comet’s tail.”
“No! That is a seriously bad idea!”
“Wow. You do realise he can’t actually hear you?”
This is the sort of shouting at the character moment that we usually have from the outside of the box, Scott. But hey, we’ll run with you as well, but seriously stop learning to speak too soon!
Tumblr media
Okay everyone! So this is going to be a slightly short edition to the Re-Review series today (because my internet is seriously playing up and I’m working through a massive list). Anyway, buckle up, and prepare to meet one of the most annoying men you will ever have the unfortunate chance of making your acquaintance with!
Francois Lemaire originally appeared in TOS as a fashion designer in the episode ‘Alias Mr Hackenbacker” (the resemblance to the original is like so well done, I mean like imagine the lack of HD and try to tell the difference). And Madeline (though not then Lemaire) was a model and his closest confidant. It kinda makes sense to have married them. From what I remember though, he was annoying out of his paranoia, not because he was actually annoying. This guy on the other hand doesn’t have much in his personality to love, isn’t a fashion designer, isn’t overly smart and ignores the smart calls of his wife. And is about to sign himself a gold pass for the International Rescue ‘Always in Need of a Rescue’ Club - which is probably the worst one to join, let’s be honest. At least Ned is a nice guy.
“You see I don’t always act like I know everything.”
But... point is that Lemaire does. When actually it’s Madeline who does know everything;
“Next time read the manual.”
Come on mate, switch your head on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Just think of it like a game.”
Does Alan live in games? The answer is yes. But it does seem to have given him so serious flight skills so maybe that is a good thing.
I agree with John - I’m surprised this thing is still in one piece.
And why does he have cheese on board? I mean, I personally love halloumi, but priorities!
Tumblr media
“Halley’s Comet.”
And leaving a very jealous Alan, I’m sure.
“It’s wonderful.”
“A snake pit would be wonderful compared to this.”
Ha! She should try talking to Alan.
“Actually I don’t really know much else about it.”
Of course you don’t, Lemaire, of course.
I wonder exactly how stuck they were at the Mariana Trench - I would have thought they’d have sent Gordon not Scott, but there we go. And what sort of birthday party do you have at the Mariana Trench.
“Is all of that necessary?”
“Absolutely!”
I think Scott enjoyed saying that. Although he probably forgot they were arguing on a live camera feed. He did remember later to stick his hand over it though... maybe a bit too late though.
Tumblr media
“That could have been us.”
Finally he gets it! I wonder how long it took him to revert to form... oh, I’m betting on all of five seconds. Maybe three. Or possibly one.
It’s like a leap of faith. Did anyone else ever watch Raven on CBBC? Remember the leap of faith in that? That’s what this reminded me of.
Alan coming down to stand foot on the comet. He seriously just couldn’t resist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why do images like this always make you go ‘oh no’? But then Lemaire is an idiot so maybe we’ll just watch him fall and laugh because we know IR are there and will sort it.
And hey, look at that! What a nice save by Alan. No, I say that like I don’t mean it and I do. I think it was one of the first moments where we see Alan’s confidence in a rescue and Scott’s worry when it’s actually unfounded. The kid’s grown up and he can cope now. Yes, you’ll always worry about him (big brother’s privilege and all that), but it’s probably no longer a necessity of training.
“Scream if you want to go faster.”
That’s what they say at fairgrounds on rollarcoasters right? I think the Tracy brothers might have used to spend a lot of time in those sorts of places. Seriously, we’ve got John’s skills with arcades machines, Alan and Gordon’s knack for games, now we’ve got fairground hints and who here doesn’t think Virgil’s strong enough for those... um, what do you call them things? where you score points based on how well you swing a mallet? But seriously, that is the nugget that this episode gave me. Fairgrounds and arcades, and then an island. So yeah...
“Nice catch.”
“Nice throw.”
Tumblr media
“I just watch and do.”
Now we know Alan’s secret. With a little bit of natural talent thrown in of course.
“Down to one engine. It’s gonna’ take forever to get home.”
“But we have such fine company.”
And he even has the decency to be charming on the journey home.
“36 hours is the best we can do.”
“Three days to get back to Earth?”
“One and a half actually.”
“What are we supposed to do? There’s nothing back here in your cargo hold.”
“Oh, and Lemaire, Alan and I have been discussing it and given the obvious inconvenience, we’re not gonna bill you for the trip home.”
Oh,, missed opportunity! Scott you so should have billed him.
We all know Gordon would have, just saying.

See Me
Tumblr media
Summary: It was perhaps the worst day in Ignis's little life. It seemed like everything was going wrong. Why couldn't anyone just see him and notice how upset he was? See him and try to help?
Why couldn't someone just see him?
A/n: This is the second prompt I just couldn't turn down for my friend @bgn846 for our f3s!!!
The prompt was little Ignis meeting Cor or Clarus for the first time and what the meeting would be like! My brain ran away with a bit more whump then I thought, but I still hope it's an enjoyable read!
You can also read on AO3 at: https://archiveofourown.org/works/21679642
Enjoy! :D
Word Count: 3025
--------------------------
Today had to be one of the worst days of six year old Ignis’s life.
So many things had gone wrong in such a short span of time.
Why couldn’t anybody see him?  See just how hard he was working or ask him about his missteps?  All day it had felt like he either made a blunder… or was merely overlooked.
First he had mixed up his school work and the tutor had snapped at him for making such an easy mistake.  ‘Wasn’t he supposed to be more aware than that?  An Adviser can’t afford to make these sorts of little mistakes.’  Ignis had nodded and pretended like the words didn’t hurt.  He would just try harder and strive to do better... even if he had stayed up late to finish all the extra work he was given.  It was okay.
Ignis could handle it.
Then came lunchtime, Ignis had waited patiently outside his Uncles office.  Only the man didn’t show. His Uncle had sent someone to let Ignis into the room and let him know that he couldn’t join his nephew today.  A meeting had run over late and he sent his apologies and a note saying he would definitely see him for dinner. Ignis tucked the note inside his little vest and pretended like he hadn’t been looking forward to spending some time with his Uncle who he hadn’t seen properly in a few days.  The man was busy and it gave Ignis an idea of what was to come. Tucking the extra cookie he had brought for his Uncle into the corner of his lunchbox he finished his sandwich alone in the man’s office. It was okay.
Ignis could handle it.
Then came his time with Noctis.  The Prince had refused to listen to him about the game they had been playing.  He was obviously making up his own rules and rules were meant to be followed, weren’t they?  Wasn’t it his job to teach Noctis these things and show him the right way? So Ignis had tried to explain that no… certain pieces couldn’t just jump ahead five spaces and no… he couldn’t just take however many cards he wanted on his turn.  However, with every rule he tried to correct it only seemed to make Noctis more and more angry until finally…
“No!  I wanna play this way!  You… you’re being stupid and m-mean and dumb!  I wish… I wish you’d g-go away!” Noctis had cried out before the four year olds strong emotions had taken over.  He’d pushed over their board game and burst into tears creating the loudest racket Ignis had ever heard.
The next thing Ignis knew, the door to the playroom was being quickly opened and nanny and King Regis were rushing inside.  Both grown ups were wearing a look of panic and trying to figure out what was going on as Noctis wailed in the middle of the room surrounded by his board game pieces.
“Ignis?  Ignis what is the meaning of this?!” Nanny had instantly scolded, taking a step forward.
It wasn’t okay.
Ignis couldn’t handle it.
Before either of the grown up’s could say anything, before Ignis could hear another scolding word or could see the disappointment in the King’s face he did the only thing he could think of.
He ran.
Ignoring the calls of his name, Ignis ran and ran and ran until he didn’t think his legs could carry him a step further.
Why did it feel like he couldn’t do anything right?
Why did it feel like no matter how much he was trying it wasn’t enough?
Why did it feel like he was only seen for his mistakes?
Tears began to blur his vision as he ran around another corner and found himself in a small courtyard filled with trees, flowers and grass.  Still, the beauty of the place was easily lost in his frantic bid to get away.
Before long his legs couldn’t keep up their momentum and he slowed down, ducking behind a few chrysanthemum bushes and plopping down on the ground.  He drew his knees up to his chest, trying to catch his breath as tears continued to prick at his eyes.
He wished he was home.
He wished he had his stuffed moogle, Teacake.
He wished his Uncle was there with him and most of all…
He wished someone would just see him and understand how tough it was!
Burying his face into his knees he finally let his tears fall, no longer having to act like the little adult everyone expected of him.
“Hey?  Hey, kid?  You alright?”
A gruff voice instantly startled Ignis.  His head snapping up from where he was hidden against his knees to find piercing blue eyes staring back at him.  A tough and rugged looking soldier was peering at him from over the bushes he had hidden behind and had claimed as his haven.  The man wasn’t quite as old as King Regis, but he looked ten times scarier.
Being caught in this moment of weakness and feeling so miserable did nothing to stop his tears and Ignis found himself apologizing over and over again.
“I-I’m sorry!  I’m sorry I… I’m s-s-sorry!” he stammered, trying to wipe his eyes quickly to hide his childish tears.
“Woah!  Easy there, kid.  What are you apologizing for?” the man asked, looking equal parts worried and uneasy.  He carefully made his way around the flower bushes, moving slowly as if that might keep the kid from taking off like a terrified chipmunk.
Ignis sniffled miserably and pushed his glasses up as he wiped at his eyes now red-rimmed and puffy.
“F-For crying and… and m-making Noct angry and… and his M-Majesty angry and… tut-tutor angry,” he listed off between quiet sobs.
Ignis missed the look of shock over his  words and after a moment the soldier knelt in front of him.
“That’s… quite a list of people you got angry at you,” he began, getting a miserable little hiccuped sob for his troubles and wincing at the noise.  “What on Eos did you do, kid?”
The soldier carefully took a seat across from Ignis, folding his legs as he tried to look as un-intimidating as possible.  Something he had been told countless times that he was incapable of doing.
Ignis watched the man warily, hiccuping a little as he tried to keep his tears at bay.
“My… my Uncle told me n-not to talk to strangers…. Sir,” Ignis said quietly, still minding his manners even as this man sat in front of him.
“Oh… right… well… your Uncle is definitely right there.  He’s Cartus Scientia, isn’t he?” he asked and Ignis’s eyes widened.
“H-How did you…?”
“Your accent, your eyes and the way you can’t help to mind your manners around everyone… even people you don’t know.  Definitely family traits,” the soldier listed off, though he offered the kid a little smile. “That must mean that you’re Ignis, his nephew.  My names Cor… Cor Leonis. I’m the Marshal here in the Crownsguard.”
Ignis’s eyes instantly widened.  He’d heard about Cor long before he’d even come to the Citadel.  The man was a legend and to see him there sitting in the grass with him… Ignis wondered if he would get in trouble for that too!
“Oh!  Oh, Mr. Cor Marshal!  Please you… you don’t have to sit there!  I’m sorry!” Ignis gasped, scrambling to get up to try and find them more suitable seating.  He couldn’t let thee Cor Leonis sit in the dirt!
Cors eyes widened at the sudden mood change and shook his head, reaching out to rest a hand on the young boys shoulder.  “Steady there, Ignis. It’s alright. You have nothing to apologize for. I sat down here on my own, didn’t I?” he asked and the young boy seemed to sag under the gaze, frowning and biting his lower lip.
“O-Only because I was… you were… trying to make me f-feel better,” he muttered and Cor’s eyebrows rose.
“Oh… you… yeah,” he agreed, surprised at how adeptly this… child had read him.  If memory served, the kid was only around Gladio’s age and even Gladio wasn’t that perceptive.  “I um… thought I might be a bit too intimidating if I didn’t.”
“It’s okay.  You w-were still kinda… kind of scary even when sitting,” Ignis said honestly, correcting his own grammar as Cor bit back a chuckle.
The kid didn’t talk or act how most kids his age did.  He had been around Gladio and Noctis enough to know. He was more aware of his surroundings, held himself with a different sort of aire.  Literally as if he had been trained to act as a mini-adult.
That didn’t sit quite right with the Marshal somehow.
“Well… since I’m scary either way… we can always go and find a nice bench to sit on,” he offered, watching as Ignis’s cheeks flushed up.  He held up a hand as he saw the kid opening his mouth again and shook his head. “No apologies. You’re right. I’m an intimidating person and I have to be.  Don’t apologize for being right… or for being honest, okay?”
Ignis instantly closed his mouth at that and nodded, looking down at the ground.  Cor frowned as he watched the kid and stood up, brushing a few pieces of grass from his trousers as he looked around.
“There’s a bench right over there.  Why don’t we go and get comfortable and then you can tell me how one small kid managed to get so many people angry at him?” he offered, a little smile still on his lips as he led the way, Ignis following behind him like a sad baby duckling.
It wasn’t long before they were settled on the bench, a little closer to the entrance.  It was close enough to watch a few people meandering along the hallways though still allowed them the chance to enjoy the peace of the Citadel gardens.  Though the peace was still lost on the little boy who looked like he had a rain cloud over his head.
It had taken everything in Cors power not to help Ignis take a seat as he scrambled up onto the bench.  Judging by the way the kid carried himself it wouldn’t have been appreciated in the slightest. As they both finally settled into their seats he turned to take in the downcast expression, the tear stained cheeks and the way the poor kid was curling in on himself like he wished he could disappear.
Cor suddenly found that he wasn’t quite sure how to start this conversation.  The kid acted like a little adult and yet… in this moment he seemed just like any other miserable six year old.  How does a person talk to someone like that?
He didn’t have to ponder long as a shaky breath instantly had his attention focused back on Ignis.
“I… I’m sorry… again for troubling you, Sir,” Ignis began, his voice quiet.  Cor frowned deeply at that, but before he could tell the little retainer that he hadn’t done anything wrong Ignis continued on.  “I… I shouldn’t have ran away like… like I did. It was… childish of me.”
Cor had to bite back a comment at that.  ‘You are a child’ he thought, but he knew there was more to come.
Ignis took his silence as a chance to continue and closed his eyes as he took a little shuddered breath.
“But… but early today I got tutor angry at me because I didn’t turn in the right work, but… but I really, really did try, Sir!  I even stayed up past when Uncle told me to go to bed, but I… I did the wrong lesson.  And… and then I thought I’d get to have lunch with Uncle, but he was busy so I… I went to go look after the Prince like I’m supposed to, but… he… he was playing a game wrong and… and when I tried to teach him the rules he got angry at me and told me he wished I… I’d go away and then… and… and then…,” Ignis’s little face scrunched up as tears appeared in his eyes once more and he sniffled.  “Th-Then nanny and the K-King came in and they… they were gonna get upset at me for doing my job wrong and… and up-upsetting the Prince and… and I just wanted to do a good job, but I didn’t and now everyone is m-mad at me and… and I just… I want my U-Uncle and I want Teacakes and I… I want to be better, but I keep messing up and making people angry!”
With that last little outburst, Ignis brought his hands up to cover his face as a choked little sob broke free from his chest.
Cor couldn’t take seeing this kid looking so miserable and upset and just like he would’ve done for Gladio he wrapped an arm around the tiny tot and pulled him into his side.  Ignis easily turned into the offered comfort, hiding his face against Cors side and crying quietly into his coat.
“That… definitely sounds like a tough day, Ignis,” he said quietly, carefully pulling his phone from his pocket and sending a quick text to Regis while the poor kid continued to get out all the hurt and sadness he had harbored all day.
After receiving a message back he slipped his phone back into his pocket, giving Ignis an encouraging little squeeze as he felt him slowly calming down.  He could feel the slight hitch in his shoulders still, but he figured it was finally alright to try and remedy some of this hurt.
“First of all… I want you to know that running away like that isn’t childish, though you’ve definitely scared a few people if my texts are anything to go by.  Regis, Clarus and your Uncle are tearing apart the Citadel trying to find you right now,” he said, getting a terrified and tear streaked face looking up at him for his troubles.  “They aren’t angry, I can tell you that. They are worried, but not angry. And don’t worry about Prince Noctis. Do you know how many stuffed carbuncles and behemoths I’ve had thrown at me because he doesn’t play games fairly?” he asked, getting a little, watery smile from the tiny Adviser, though the kid tried to hide it.
Cor offered him a smile at that and continued.  “I’m sorry for what he said to you though. I know the Prince doesn’t mean it.  He is still little and he doesn’t exactly get told no or that he’s wrong a lot. What you did in trying to teach him the right way was… well… right.  You’re being tasked with a lot, Ignis. You’re still little yourself and people are asking you to act like a little guardian and well beyond your years.  I’m definitely going to be having a talk with that tutor of yours though. If it’s Mr. Harghen’s then it will be a pleasure.   Do you know how many bad marks he gave me in my classes?  If he’s gonna pick on you then he’s picking a fight with me.  Okay?”
Ignis’s eyes widened as he heard that.
Cor the Immortal was going to tell off his tutor?  And he also had trouble sometimes with the Prince?
Ignis sniffled and wiped at his eyes, a little smile appearing on his face as someone seemed to finally be noticing the troubles he’d been dealing with.  Not only that… they were listening to him and not treating him like he was being too childish to pay attention to… or too grown up to need the attention.
Cor was simply listening to him and helping him through his troubles.
“Thank you, Mr. Cor Marshal,” Ignis said with a little nod, feeling like for the first time in weeks someone was actually seeing him.  Was taking time to listen and understand.
“Anytime, Ignis.” Cor said, giving the kids hair a little ruffle and even getting a little giggle for his troubles.  “Now. I know there are three people keen to see you again back at your Uncles… and a little Prince who wants to apologize to his friend. ”
Ignis’s hands paused where they were fixing his hair and he looked up at Cor wide-eyed.  “Really? He… he’s not mad at me anymore?” he asked.
Cor shook his head.  “I think he regrets saying what he did to you.  He’s never wanted to apologize for throwing stuffed moogles at me so… I think you’ve already taught him a few good lessons don’t you?” he asked and Ignis nodded, smiling a bit more as he heard that.
“Come on, kid.  I’ll escort you back.  Perhaps we can stop along the way to talk to that tutor of yours,” Cor offered as he stood up.
Ignis smiled more at that and giggled, scooting off the bench.
Cor was just typing out a message on his phone saying that they were on their way when he felt a small hand take his free one.
Looking down he caught an equally surprised Ignis glancing up at him in return.  Apparently the tiny tot hadn’t meant to do it, almost looking ashamed for doing something so childish.  But Cor merely gave him a smile and offered a little squeeze to his hand. “You don’t mind holding hands, right?  It gets busy in the halls around this time and I don’t want to get lost,” he said, watching as Ignis’s expression went from shock and shame to a more relaxed if slightly skeptical one.
“You’re a soldier.  You wouldn’t get lost,” he said, though he didn’t let go of Cors hand as they began to make their way out of the gardens.
“You don’t know that.  Maybe I get lost all the time?  King Regis does. He has terrible navigational skills,” he offered, smiling more when he heard Ignis giggling beside him.
Ignis smiled up at the Immortal and shook his head.  Perhaps… this wasn’t the worst day of his life.
Someone had finally seen him.

Rom(an)eo and the Set Designer Chapter 4
Prev Part  |  Also on Ao3  | Next Part
Patton goes to the first play rehearsal and discovers the ridiculous word of drama games. Plus, Valerie is a wonderful angel.
Word Count: 2148        Pairing: Eventual Royality
After a pair of incredibly enthusiastic, yet somehow terribly exhausting planning meetings, Patton’s life returns more or less back to normal. He takes the opportunity to catch up on homework and spends some time getting a headstart on a couple of projects and an essay he’s been assigned. After all, it’s nearing the end of September now, which inevitably means workloads are getting heavier as the possibility of tests and projects begin to rise from the long forgotten ashes of summer. In the calmer moments, Patton feels wistful at the fading memories of summer, and yet he’s also incredibly excited. This is his last year of high school, and the thought of graduating come June spurs him on. His parents have even started talking heavily of college and college applications, a notion which always manages to leave him feeling equal parts terrified and excited, as he begins to consider where he might like to apply.
And then, just as Patton’s starting to develop a rhythm, Roman pops back into Patton’s life with gusto, sliding into the seat next to him at lunch.
“Heya, Patton!” Roman exclaims, gently bumping his shoulder. “I just wanted to pop by and let you know that our first rehearsal’s happening today! You’re totally welcome to come- I mean, you’re not already busy or anything. I, uh, realize now that I probably should have given you more than a few hours warning.” Patton can’t help but giggle at Roman’s mildly sheepish expression, as the boy stands and bows, before jaunting away to his usual lunch table.
“Ever a fool as always,” Virgil mutters, in between bites of his sandwich. Patton rolls his eyes and grins, turning back to his own food as he mulls over the invitation.
Patton’s last class of the day is math, and it’s about as boring as things can get. The teacher is droning on about calculating growth rates, and Patton’s attention is flickering in and out. On one hand, he really wants to go to the rehearsal today. After all this time, he finally has a chance to get to know Roman, and he desperately wants to take it. His friends may tease him about his crush, but if Patton’s being honest -and he’s really trying to be- it’s a bit more complicated than that. Patton still remembers the Roman that he first met, the one who stood up for a stranger without a moment’s hesitation, and it’s everything that Patton’s always wanted to be. Helping out those in need has been Patton’s dream for years now, and he can’t help but admire Roman’s dedication to helping people.
Of course, Roman’s certainly not perfect- Patton can easily recall his tendency to make split-second judgments about people, especially back in middle school. That was half the reason Patton hadn’t befriended him back then. Back in freshman year, Roman had decided that Virgil was a troublemaker, based purely on his tendency to wear all black, and his messy eyeshadow. Of course, Patton had avoided Virgil too back then, albeit his reasoning was more out of fear than disapproval.
And then, Patton had been assigned Virgil as a partner in Language Arts, and he had consequently discovered that Virgil suffered from severe anxiety, and consequently found it difficult to make friends. He also learned that Virgil was actually quite good at writing- his poetry was a bit awkward in those early days, but it was still far better than Patton’s, and by the time they had finished the project, Patton found that he had become friends with the other boy.
Even still, Patton’s crush on Roman remained; half romantic feelings and half a mess of admiration. It may be years later, now, but he’s finally getting the chance to befriend him, and Patton’s probably a little too excited about it. After all, Patton’s hardly the only one harboring a crush on Roman, and on top of that, he doesn’t even know if Roman likes guys.
There have been rumors, of course, but Patton does his absolute best to ignore those, no matter what they say, and the thought that he might have no chance with Roman kicks up a dull ache in his heart. As much as he wishes it weren’t true, real life doesn’t guarantee a happy ending, and Patton knows he has no more claim to Roman than anyone else. But that’s something Patton would really rather not think about, so he forces his attention back towards the teacher. There’s a bunch of stuff written on the board now, Patton realizes with a start, and he snatches up his pen in a scramble to write it all down.
The bell rings, just as Patton starts writing the final line of equations, and he quickly scrawls down the rest, before shoving his notebook in his backpack. Standing up, Patton waves goodbye to his teacher and makes his way out the door. Once he’s in the hall, Patton starts in the direction of the drama teacher’s room, but he hasn’t even made it halfway there when Valerie suddenly appears next to him.
“Hi, Valerie,” Patton says. “What’s up?”
“I was just headed to rehearsal. Were you planning on joining us? I know Roman was intending to invite you.” Valerie grins at him, and Patton takes a moment to appreciate how friendly Valerie is. She’s been exceptionally welcoming to Patton, and he smiles back, feeling oddly grateful.
“Yeah, I was just heading there now!” Patton nods, bouncing on his toes.
“You were?” Valerie asks with a frown. “Oh, were you going to Mrs. Gregory’s classroom?”
“Yeah,” Patton nods. “Was that, um. Not where I was supposed to go?” He asks as Valerie shakes her head.
“Why am I not surprised Roman forgot to tell you? Rehearsals happen in the auditorium. There’s not exactly enough room in a classroom for us to do our thing.”
“Oh.” Patton blushes, and trails alongside Valerie as they turn around and begin to walk in the opposite direction. Patton hasn’t spent all that much time in the auditorium- he hadn’t even considered that rehearsal might be there, but now he thinks he was being a little silly, to not realize it sooner. He feels awkward and jittery, and as they get closer, Patton starts to wonder if he should even be going to rehearsal at all- after all, it’s not like he’s acting in the play. He’s just building them a set.
Valerie glances over at him, and then pauses, reaching out and putting her hand on his shoulder.
“You’re gonna do fine, I promise,” she says, offering him a smile. “Rehearsal will start off with some warm-up games, and then Mrs. Gregory will hand out scripts and we’ll get as far as we can with a readthrough. Then, at next rehearsal, we’ll pick up where we left off, and run through until we either run out of time or finish the script. The first couple days are just dedicated to getting everyone comfortable with the crew and the play we’re doing.” Patton blushes and glances at the ground.
“It’s probably silly, I just- I feel kinda like I shouldn’t be here. I mean, I’m no actor...” Patton trails off, feeling a bit melodramatic.
“No one said you have to be.”Valerie answers. “It can be easy to forget, especially when you’ve never been involved with a production before, but we actors wouldn’t be anything without our support. Stage crew and tech crew and costume designers are all part of what makes our part possible. You’ll be far from the only person in there who’s not gonna be onstage. You’re welcome to engage as much or as little as you feel you need to.”
“Thanks,” Patton says, feeling much better.
“No problem. We’re all new sometime, and it can be pretty nerve-wracking; after all, there’s a lot of big personalities in theatre.” With that, Valerie opens the door and waves Patton through.
“Zip!” Patton blinks up at the stage where a crowd of people is gathered. -“Zap!”- Everyone seems to be standing in a circle, and as Patton watches, feeling stunned and confused -“Zop!”- kids are yelling and clapping.
“Aw, they’ve already started?” Valerie says, standing next to Patton. “This is one of the warm-ups I mentioned. It’s called zip-zap-zop. Clap, point and make eye contact with whoever you want, and shout the next word in the pattern, then they have to do the same.”
“Zip!” Patton hears someone shout, but the next person says “Zop”, and everybody breaks apart, laughing.
“If you mess up- say the wrong word, or if two people answer simultaneously, you’re out,” Valerie continues then grins. “ Then someone starts the pattern over again. I’m gonna go tap in- you’re welcome to join too if you want. Or you can watch with the others.” She gestures to a group of people standing nearby the circle, and then climbs onto the stage, to join the crowd. Patton slowly follows, but rather than heading for the big circle, he makes his way over to the handful of people who are just watching. As nice as Valerie was, he’s still half confused about what they’re even doing and would probably mess up immediately.
A moment later, the circle roars into action, as they begin their game again. Even though everybody’s following the same pattern, Patton notices that some people are much more energetic in the responses than others. When it gets passed to Roman, he actually jumps, in an effort to shift his entire body to point towards the next person, causing a few laughs to echo across the circle. A few moments later, Valerie gets passed to. She’s almost as dramatic as Roman, and Patton finds himself smiling and laughing at the strange antics, as the game goes on. Occasionally, someone will mess up, and leave the circle amid much laughter.
Then, suddenly, halfway through a round, Roman starts up a new chain, yelling out ‘zip’ on top of the chain already going around. At first, Patton thinks Roman has messed up, but instead, the person Roman pointed to continues their own chain, and Patton watches in fascination as the circle starts flinging both chains around at the same time. It doesn’t take too long after that for someone to mess up, and when they start the game again, Roman quickly adds in the second chain.
And then Roman messes up, calling out zip at the same time as the person next to him, and everybody bursts into laughter as he collapses onto the stage.
“Wow, Roman, out so soon? Must be distracted today.” He hears someone call as Roman wails.
“Yeah, we all know why that is,” Jamahl says, from his spot, chilling in the crowd of watchers. Patton frowns in confusion, wondering what he means, but then they’re starting the game up again, and Patton finds himself distracted by the yells sprouting up from the players.
When there are just four people left, Roman pops up next to Patton with a grin.
“Having fun?” Roman asks.
“I... think I am?” Patton offers, frowning as somebody messes up and the round ends. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s crazy.”
“Oh, yeah,” Roman laughs. “Drama games can get pretty strange, especially when you’ve never seen them before.”
Then, with another mistake, they’re finally down to two people, who face each other, leaning in, and grinning. The game starts off, and they’re saying the words so rapid-fire that the shouts are blurring together, and Patton can’t possibly keep track of the back-and-forth. Patton feels a bit like he’s watching a professional tennis match on tv; both people seem incredibly good, and they’re both clearly determined to win this.
“Do they get anything for winning?” Patton finds himself asking, absentmindedly.
“Only the pride and satisfaction of being the best,” Roman says with a laugh. “It’s actually pretty fun to see Terrence and Renee go at each other. I’m usually one of the last two standing, actually. I just had an off day today.”
“Yeah?” Patton asks, glancing over at Roman. The moment he looks away, though, he hears zop shouted twice in a row, and Patton turns back to watch as the two shake hands, laughing.
“All right!” Mrs. Gregory shouts a moment later, to Patton’s surprise. He had been so focused on the game that he hadn’t even seen her walk in. “I hope we’re all feeling sufficiently warmed up now, so if you would all take a seat, we’ll start handing out your scripts!” Patton watches as people immediately start sitting down forming a shape that vaguely resembles a circle. He joins them, and watches as Roman and a few others begin handing everyone scripts.
Once everybody’s settled with script in hand, Mrs. Gregory asks for Kyle to begin reading, and Patton settles in to listen, as the tale of Romeo and Juliet unfolds.

For the longest time I couldn’t figure out Liam. On the one hand, I liked him. On the other hand, he drove me nuts with how he acted towards the other companions in the Nomad. And his almost desperate behavior to get everything right. For it to make sense. To the point of him taking stupid risks and going behind Ryder’s back.
As I played I found myself wondering if he was written by two different people - the Liam in the Nomad almost seemed like a different person from the Liam on the Tempest.
Then I started thinking - he’s freaking out. Like literally. Like close-to-having-a-nervous-breakdown freaking out. He’s in panic mode.
He bought the Dream™ like everyone else. He envisioned himself having this grand adventure in this amazing new galaxy. Then the Hyperion hits the scourge……And its just downhill from there.
************************************
Habitat 7 is a bust. New hostile aliens. People get injured. A teammate dies. Their Pathfinder dies. But…ok we’ve got a new Pathfinder. And we’re headed to the Nexus. They gotta have a plan.
Just listen to him on the ride to the Nexus when he’s talking about how they better have champagne ready. I think he’s only partly joking about that. It seemed more like he was telling himself this to calm down. That maybe Habitat 7 was just a bad start and it will all get better once they get to the Nexus. Cora kinda does the same thing when she mentions that warm food and a shower are coming right up. They are firmly expecting that the Nexus will have the answers for them. That the Nexus leadership will know what to do.
Then they arrive on the Nexus. It’s dark, sections are sealed off and the construction isn’t finished. The first person they meet tells them that they thought that they were all dead since none of the arks had showed. That they have been stranded there for 14 months just trying to survive. The leaders are subdued and clueless. Almost immediately as Ryder arrives, they throw the Pathfinder out there to fix this for them. To do what they couldn’t.
For Liam this is just another blow. They don’t know what to do. The Nexus was supposed to know, but they’re acting like the Pathfinder will fix this for them.
And it gets even worse.
They learn that two colonization attempts on Eos failed. That people were slaughtered. The planet is a radioactive mess. Far from the Golden World they were promised. And then there’s the Kett.
************************************
They (Alec Ryder, Jien Garson and probably others) sold everyone a utopian dream. A dream that’s become a nightmare. And Liam is freaking the hell out.
************************************
If you talk to Liam, it’s apparent that he is fixated on “home”. Half his dialogue talks about wanting things to make sense again. He even makes a point that this has to work otherwise he jumped galaxies for nothing.
So he goes out of his way to “fix” everything.
************************************
Him giving Nexus access codes to Verand in exchange for crops was an idiotic move. No way around that. Especially with hydroponics set up at the Nexus, the science team hard at work and Prodromos working their asses off. They were getting somewhere finally. But it’s not fast enough for Liam.
Some of it does make sense though. From what Liam says, relations between the Angara and the Nexus are locked in a stalemate. Which is true based on what we can hear in-game. Have you gone to Pathfinder HQ and listened to Tann talking to the Angaran ambassador? Its painfully obvious that he has no clue what the f*ck he is doing. Not to mention that the Nexus diplomat in Aya lies through her teeth to Tann and seems to think its better for the diplomatic relationship with the Angara if he is involved as little as possible.
************************************
Things are progressing, but they are progressing slowly. Too slowly for Liam who is in full have-I-made-a-mistake mode. So Liam can be forgiven for bypassing the Nexus leadership since Tann is useless. But there are capable people working on it. And they don’t deserve the added stress of trying to fix a mess because Liam wants things to happen faster. And him going behind Ryder’s back and almost getting them into trouble on Aya is not ok. Not even close. It’s something that could get him kicked off the ship if Ryder had been harsher about it. He got lucky that Verand is a good person.
************************************
Liam, by all accounts, had a good life in the Milky Way. He had a good job that he liked, a loving relationship with his family and friends. But he dreamed for more and what Jien Garson spoke about sounded almost too good to be true. So he joined up, filled with dreams of this amazing adventure.
The reality of Andromeda is not what he signed up for. Not even close. And he tries to fix it. Desperately. Because he wants it to work. He NEEDS it to work. Otherwise he left a good life behind for nothing. He left a loving family behind for nothing. He left everything behind for nothing.
He feels like shit. He has doubts. Big doubts. Nothing is what he thought/hoped it would be. He admits this to Vetra in a banter on the Nomad. That he snapped at her because of how shitty he feels. Though, like she points out, he was still being an asshole to her. Him knowing why doesn’t change that. But they do reach some kind of middle-ground in the end.
************************************
But another thing to remember is that for Liam, Cora, Lexi and Ryder this is all new.
The Scourge, the Kett and the mess that is the current Andromeda Initiative. All of this is new to them. They get thrust into this mess without a moment to breathe. They barely arrive on the Nexus before Tann sent them back out to deal with Eos.
They barely had any time to think. To process. They literally go from Scourge to Habitat 7 to Nexus to Eos. Barren worlds, hostile aliens and a broken Nexus leadership. Dealing with one bad thing after another. While everyone is looking to them to fix everything. And none of them got the chance to process. And, in Ryder’s case, they may be grieving their dad and worrying about their sibling on top of it all.
Vetra, Gil, Suvi, Kallo, Drack and the others on the Tempest spent a year on the Nexus (give or take) They had time to process.
Vetra will tell Ryder that she wondered for “the longest time” if coming here was a mistake. Suvi and Gil will also mention that they wondered if they made a mistake coming to Andromeda during that year on the Nexus. Peebee will also make a brief mention of the mess that was the Nexus before the Hyperion arrived.
While the Nexus team are feeling the pressure of their new mission, they at least had some time to deal with most of their conflicted emotions. They can keep themselves together and focus on the job. At least somewhat. It’s easier for them to accept the reality because they’ve had time to process it. Months at least.
But for Liam, Cora, Lexi and Ryder? This is recent. This just happened. From Habitat 7 to the Nexus to Eos and on to everything else without a moment to breathe.
Cora throws herself into finding the Asari ark, because she is still looking for someone with answers. Ryder is doing their best with dealing with all that’s thrown at them while dealing with SAM, their dad and their sibling. Lexi is probably the one handling everything the best but she also throws herself into work. And Liam desperately tries to fix everything.
His quest regarding the Outposts is another hint at that. He so badly wants Andromeda to be the Dream™ he signed up for. He wants it to not be a mistake. He needs to feel like coming here was worth it. That he didn’t leave everything behind for nothing. He wants “home”, he wants everything to make sense. He misses his family and he needs Andromeda to work out.
Liam’s final convo at Meridian hints at him finally feeling ok. Or getting there. He mentions crying at the sight of a sunset in Meridian. He is getting there. Maybe the dream might actually live after all.

Wonder Woman: Movie Review
Hi, hey, I just saw Wonder Woman, so now I am going to write a review on it! (Yay!!!)
Synopsis:  Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny. (taken from the one and only google)
Watch the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSB4wGIdDwo
Rating: 4.5/5 stars, around 90% and an A-
No spoilers review: I mean, it was a good movie and I enjoyed it and I will talk more specifically about the things that enjoyed in the spoiler section, but I will say that I enjoyed the fact that the main character was a woman and I enjoyed the way that they portrayed the way society looks at women and the way the movie shows the expectations we have for women and how it shows that these expectations are not right and not just. I loved most of the fight scenes (I’ll get to that later). I think the main reason that I wasn’t able to enjoy this movie as much as I would have liked is because I don’t enjoy plots that are as fast paced as this movie, and I am not trying to blame the movie for this, because I understand that you need to fit a complete story arch into 2 hours, which is difficult to manage, so I don’t blame them if it was fast paced, because it is a very tight schedule and it does feel fast at some points and I wasn’t able to enjoy that. I think I would have enjoyed it more, if it were a TV show. I did love the story line and the way it portrays the problems in our society and the way it shows us what is wrong. I as sitting there in the theater and I was feeling what they wanted me to feel: I was feeling embarrassed for this woman, strong, courageous woman, for standing up for what she believed in, I wanted her to fit in and go along with what everyone else said and blend into society, instead of doing what she wanted to do. I feel like this is slowly moving into the spoiler section, so I am going to conclude this by saying that while I did not enjoy the movie as much as I would have liked to, it was not for the story line and the message, it was more about my personal preferences like faster pacing and excessive amounts of action sequences, but that is just because I don’t typically enjoy that sorta thing, so yeah.
To conclude this section, if you are wondering whether to go see the movie, PLEASE DO, I will say that I was blinking tears out of my eyes by the end of it and I am really proud of what DC did with this story, so do yourself a favor and go get a ticket.
Gonna go into spoilers now, so if you have seen the movie, feel free to read on!
Spoiler review: So, as I said before, I enjoyed most of the fight scenes that we got in this movie, which is saying a lot, as I usually don’t enjoy that kind of thing in general. Now, the one fight scene that I didn’t enjoy was the one at the very end of the film, when she is fighting Ares, like the full on wearing-armo(u)r-and-can-mold-anything-into-a-weapon Ares, because I felt like it was too much, the CGI, the special effects, the armor... I think what tipped it over the edge for me was the whole molding-anything-into-a-weapon thing and I just found that with this much editing going on, it wasn’t as “organic” as I would have liked it to be (which is ironic since none of the scenes in the film really are “organic”, but most of them aren’t as full on with special effects as this one was and I found that I wasn’t able to feel for them as much, and I felt disconnected from it all. With that said, I loved the other action sequences we got in this film,  like the No Man’s Land one. I loved how it showed Diana standing up for what she believed, instead of listening to what everyone else was telling her to do, it felt so empowering to watch her take down the Germans. And when she jumped into the church and took down the last German, it felt so wonderful and great and I was full of adrenaline. Also the fight scene at the start of the movie, when Diana saves Steven and the Germans discover their island. I enjoyed that one so much, because it showed women in and entirely new light (this makes me sound like a feminist), but I loved the way they Amazons were portrayed and how they were shown as these warriors who could stand up for themselves by themselves. It was very empowering to watch. Now let us talk about the romance... This is probably the only reason that I had problem with the pacing - the whole romance felt a bit insta-lovey - how they just met and barely know each other and suddenly he is telling her he loves her and giving her his fathers watch (which I would guess means a lot to him)... And it felt so very fast to me, maybe because I am used to seeing romantic feelings develop over multiple books, but this was like a skip-through-all-the-boring-stuff-and-get-to-the-cheesy-and-sweet-bit. It felt like they tried to mush too much into 2 hours with the romance and action and everything in-between and they may have done better to leave some of it out. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me...Now, another reason why I didn’t enjoy this movie as much as I wanted to was the mixed and crooked mythology... The thing is, I am such Rick Riordan trash and one of the many reasons that i enjoy his books is because of the way mythology is layed out very clearly and clear lines are drawn between the Greek and Roman mythology and I like it, because I get a clear understanding and a good history lesson. The mythology in WW was confusing and mixed and inaccurate with all their talk of Zeus dying and Ares living on and the Amazons, which aren’t even a part of Greek mythology, being creating to save the day, which is not how it is supposed to go. Since I knew the original stories (sorta knew the original stories anyways) I found it difficult to put that aside and focus on the ore important parts of the film, especially as this is mentioned multiple times during the movie. With that said, I did really enjoy the movie. So, now, that I have complained about the stuff that I didn’t enjoy, let me get into the things that I liked about this:
1. Bad-ass, kick-ass warrior women - THANK YOU WE NEED MORE OF THIS IN MODERN DAY MEDIA PLEASE!
2. The humor: OMFG the humor in this was so amazing - good enough to make me laugh out loud, which isn’t something that happens often, and, of course, all the dirty jokes you could ever need. Some of my favorites were the bath scene where he(Steve) explains what a watch is, the scene on the boat where they talk about sleeping together and the “doesn’t go with the outfit”, there are more, but these are the highlights
3. “It is not about deserve, it is about what you believe” I THANK YOU FOR YET ANOTHER CHEESY QUOTE THAT I WILL PUT ON MY WALL AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO JUDGE ME FOR
4. The fact that this doesn’t have a happy ending. To be honest, I’ve had it with the happy endings in these action movies, where it seems so unrealistic that everyone that matters to the viewer will survive and be fine by the end of it, because that is not how war works in real life - people die, there are casualties, there are sacrifices made - and I enjoyed this film’s portrayal of a not happy ending and a not-so-happily-ever-after-but-moving-somewhere-in-that-direction-and-making-the-world-a-better-place-because-i-have-nothing-else-left-but-also-because-i-kinda-want-to, that is why I loved that movie so much.
5. how you kind of felt attached to all the characters, even the minor ones, due to the great acting. The actors DELIVERED and thank god for that! Of course, Remus Lupin was my personal favorite, but.. the other ones where good too, not sure about that Gal Gadot, though (I AM BEING SARCASTIC)
To round up, I enjoyed the movie and the things that I didn’t enjoy were mostly just my own preference and not a problem with the story line and the portrayal of any ideas/concepts in the film, yeah.
Below this cut (sorta cut) are some references that I thought of, while watching the movie, if you want you can read it, as long as you have finished all the books that are set in the Shadowhunter world and all the SJM books. I don’t want to spoil anyone... Oh, and also Star Wars (and obviously finished the movie)
So, references:
1. Diana, just in general reminds me a lot of Izzy from TMI, with them both being such wonderfully bad-ass warriors
2. But also, the truth-rope-thingy Diana uses reminded me of Izzy’s whip way too much, so I just started thinking of them as one being
3. The cuffs that Diana uses at the end to absorb Ares’ power reminded me of Cortana (Emma’s sword) from TDA, with how both the sword and the cuffs absorb the power of that which they destroy. So Diana is sorta a mix between Emma and Izzy.. following me, yeah?
4. when Diana was caught in those iron/rock thing and Ares was taunting her, how much did it remind you of that ending scene in EoS with Maeve taunting Aelin and cuffing her and laughing at her.... So now she’s a mix of Aelin, Emma and Izzy in my head, which is very confusing, because she is also just Diana
5. The way Ares was trying to get Diana to use her anger about Steve’s death to get her to kill humans reminded me of the way Sith was trying to being Luke to the dark side in one of the Star Wars movies.. Anyone else? No?  Just me?
please let me know what you thought about the movie, I would love to talk about it with you!
