Hat - Jotaro x Reader
Word Count: 8025
You had been Jotaro's friend for god knows how long. You had been with him through pretty much everything.
And despite your feelings for the man, you never spoke them. You wouldn't dare. You were there when he had his fanclub, you knew how much he despised women pining over him. And the last thing you wanted was to ruin the relationship you had with him.
So you never made a move. Then, Jotaro got married and had Jolyne. It broke your heart but you were happy for him. With everything you had seen that man go through, he deserved happiness.
You continued to stick around. You were the go-to when he needed someone to watch Jolyne and the go-to when he needed to talk. His wife never really seemed to be in the mood to do so and he also never felt as comfortable sharing with her as he did with you.
And then, when Jolyne was about 5 years old, Jotaro and his wife got divorced. It had become clear to Jotaro that it wasn't working out a long while ago, but he stuck around for Jolyne's sake. In his opinion, Jolyne was the one good thing coming out of his marriage.
You were by his side through the divorce, helping him win points to get custody over Jolyne since her mother originally wanted to fully take her for herself. And with what you knew, that couldn't stand.
You, being Jolyne's standard babysitter, had often talked with the girl and right before the divorce, Jolyne had come to you.
"Y/N?" The little girl meekly approached you.
"What is it, Bun?" You crouched next to her to be at eye level. Something about the way she approached made you anxious.
"To be a mommy you need to love the daddy, right?" She asked and you furrowed your brows.
"Yeah." You nodded, unsure of what she was hinting towards and you didn't want to interrupt whatever important thing she wanted to say with the logistics of parenthood.
"Can you love daddy then?" She looked almost hopeful as she stared up at you.
"Wh-" You were a little taken aback. "I don't understand, Jolyne?" You stopped crouching and instead took a seat on the floor, sitting with crossed legs. Jolyne immediately sat down on your lap and put her hands on your chest, looking up at you with a determined look as she stared straight into your confused eyes.
"I want you to be my mommy. Can you love daddy so you can be my mommy?"
All you could do was blink for a few seconds. She wanted you to be her mom? On one end your heart melted that Jolyne liked you that much. On the other, you were confused on where this suddenly came from. She was way too serious for this to just be random rambling and it worried you.
"Why would you want that, Bun?" You started, trying to understand why she said what she did.
"So you don't love daddy?" Her gaze fell down, staring at her hands on your chest as tears formed in her eyes, little Jolyne trying so hard not to cry.
"Nono, that's not what I meant!" You quickly said and Jolyne looked back up at you, a little hopeful. "What I mean is, you already have a mommy and I don't need to be that to be here for you. You know I am always ready to come by, hm?" You gently smiled down at her and took her hands from your chest, wanting to rub your thumb across the back but Jolyne was quick to rip her hands away from yours, firmly standing up and leaning her hands against you again, this time being on eye level.
"No! Mommy is not like you! You are nice and you play mermaid with me and make yummy food. Mommy only does that when daddy is home late!" She yelled.
"Wait, does she not give you food?" Your eyes widened in shock. If that was true, it was no wonder Jolyne was sometimes super hungry when you watched her. You had always pinned it on her running around a lot that day but this put it in a new light.
"She sometimes gives me a sandwich. Daddy usually makes the food."
You knew Jotaro often cooked. He had voiced his annoyance about it to you several times, saying his wife barely knew how to cook and only did so when he wasn't home or came home too late to cook. However, with this information, it made you think that on the days Jotaro wasn't home, Jolyne was going hungry.
"Jolyne." The seriousness in your voice made her look up, surprised. She had never seen you this serious. You had gotten stern with her a few times if she did something wrong, yes, but never did you look so scary. Though Jolyne knew it wasn't directed at her. "Tell me, does your mother do anything else?"
"I mean, she never really wants to play with me. She usually watches tv that I can't watch so I have to go to my room."
"Does she hurt you?"
"No, not really." You let out a breath of relief as you heard her say that. Your face, to Jolyne's own relief, turned back to your usual more soft one. There was a small silence for a little bit, the two of you just looking at each other as you examined her, trying to think of how to continue.
"Are you scared of mommy?" You eventually gently asked and Jolyne finally sat back down in your lap. The two of you were just sitting in the middle of your hallway floor but you couldn't care less, your focus being 100% on Jolyne.
"A little bit." Jolyne confessed. Unknown to her, you had pressed record on your phone when you asked the question, just laying it next to you on the floor upside down. It felt wrong to do that when she was so openly telling you this in confidence but it was too important not to.
"When are you scared, Bun?" You gently asked, brushing a stray piece of hair behind her ear to help calm her.
"When she yells or picks me up from school instead of daddy."
"Why are you scared of her picking you up from school?"
"I'm afraid mommy will be in a bad mood again. When she is she always grabs me tight and pulls me along. I can never say bye to my friends."
"Wait, Jolyne." You held your hand up. "I thought you just said she doesn't hurt you."
"She just holds my wrist hard and takes me home like a mommy does. That's different from hurt, right?" Jolyne innocently spoke. "Though when you or daddy do it, it is not scary."
"Is she always in a bad mood when she picks you up?"
"Not always. Mommy says it's because all the other childs and parents are too noisy, giving her a headache. Or do you think it's because of me?" Jolyne then spoke, turning a little sad.
"Oh, no no, Jolyne. It's not because of you." You reassured her before getting an idea to hopefully cheer her up a bit. "Just between you and me, I think daddy gets annoyed by all the other children and parents too." You pretended to badly whisper into her ear and Jolyne lit up, a small giggle escaping her.
"Yea! I think so too!" She cupped her hand around her mouth same as you did, whispering loudly into your ear as if you both were sharing a scandalous secret. "One time, my friend's mommy wouldn't stop talking to him so when she wouldn't leave him alone, he just picked me up and ran away. We were going so fast!!" She giggled even more at the memory and a soft smile splayed on your face.
"Daddy does have really long legs, huh?" You asked, raising an eyebrow.
"One day, I'll be just as tall as him!" Jolyne then giddily shouted, throwing her hands up into the air.
"I'm sure you will." You smiled at Jolyne. You stopped the recording and urged Jolyne to go play with her toys. As you watched over her though, your mind was racing at the information you had just gotten. You had to talk to Jotaro in private soon to let him listen to the recording and tell him all you had learned today.
-
The recording, paired with the rest that Jolyne had told you, was enough for Jotaro to gain full custody of Jolyne in court.
During every trial and meeting, you were looking after the girl. She didn't really know what was going on but after you had told Jotaro of the things his wife was doing to Jolyne, he had asked you if Jolyne could stay with you. He immediately told you he was going to file for divorce and he didn't want Jolyne to be alone with his wife when that was looming in the air. He feared what she might do to his little girl.
You had of course agreed and Jolyne seemed a lot happier when you had told her she and daddy would be staying with you for the coming time.
Jolyne's mom had applied that Jotaro couldn't do this, keeping her daughter away from her, but after seeing the accusations being the major reason for the divorce appeal, it was soon decided by the judge that having Jolyne be in the care of a third party was best. Especially since you were a familiar one. And since Jotaro no way was going to stay in the same house as his wife, you offered him to stay at your place as well. You had the room anyways.
And so the time passed after the divorce was completed. The next few months going by calmly.
- - - -
"Y/N." Your name being gently called made you save your work on your computer before you poked your head out of the office, seeing Jotaro at the end of the hall, shoes on, hat on, jacket on, all ready to leave out the door.
"Yeah?" You questioned.
"Do you want to come along to pick up Jolyne from school? This morning she was blabbering about how she wanted to show you her new classroom and the art she made." Jotaro looked off to the side a little bashfully and you giggled softly.
"Sure."
Your response must have surprised him cause his head shot up in disbelief. You had already saved your work so you just walked out of your office, closing the door behind you and walking over to your year-long friend. He just seemed to be frozen while you sat down to put on your shoes, standing up next to him when you were done.
Sometimes you just forgot how ridiculously tall he was. This was one of those times. Silently snorting through your nose at the realisation, you put your hand flat on your head, moving it towards him as if to measure how high you stood compared to him but when you did, he immediately leaned back as he took a step backwards and took off his hat.
Your brows furrowed in confusion and you sent him a questioning look while he himself seemed to snap out of something, realising what he was doing. He quickly cleared his throat and stood normally again and, seeing that you were ready, put his hat back on his head. "Let's go." He spoke and opened the door, letting you out first.
- - - -
You and Jotaro were patiently waiting outside the doors of Jolyne's school. The car ride had been silent and you wanted to ask what that was about back there but decided against it. You didn't feel like prying and if he wanted to share, he would.
"Fuck, here they come again." Jotaro lowly muttered and you immediately slapped his chest.
"Don't curse, we're on school grounds!" You lightheartedly scolded him.
"Oh please, there's not a child in sight." Jotaro rolled his eyes.
"Oh really? I'm pretty sure I am seeing one." You retorted back with a smirk, pointedly side-eyeing the tall man in white next to you.
"Ha ha, very funny." Jotaro dryly said and you chuckled softly.
"Mr. Kujo!" A woman suddenly walked up and you turned to look at her in surprise. "It's good to see you again." She smiled sweetly and Jotaro hummed to be polite, tugging his hat down over his eyes in the hopes she would take that as a hint that that was that. She didn't take the hint and when you looked around you understood why he cursed earlier.
It seemed as if several of the moms standing around were at least casting glances at Jotaro every now and then, some just openly staring. Seems like his good looks and tough exterior were still as attractive as ever to others, you amusedly thought to yourself.
"And who might you be?" The woman suddenly asked and you snapped out of your thoughts to see her looking at you.
"Oh, hello I'm-"
"Are you his wife? I'm sure I've seen you here before, right?"
"Oh, no I'm-"
"Although I've seen another woman pick up Jolyne as well." The woman interrupted you once more, musing to herself. "Don't tell me you have a mistress now, Mr. Kujo. You bad boy." The woman swiped her hand towards the man, just barely short of sensually saying 'rawr'. And you saw Jotaro's lip quirk up in disgust. "Do you happen to take more than one~"
"She's just a friend for crying out loud, woman! Don't ever insinuate or accuse me of something like that ever again." Jotaro burst, though it was a lot more reserved than the last time you had seen him do it - when you were still in college with him. His eyes were still blazing with anger though and helped drive the point home. "Come on, Y/N." He then muttered as he grasped your wrist, pulling you along with him to go stand on the other side of the school grounds, far away from that woman.
"Man, you never get a break, do you?" You chuckled softly and Jotaro huffed, finally happy with how far away he was from the woman as he stopped.
"More than half of the ones that come onto me here are married." He grumbled and you snorted in amusement.
"Man, if I had what you had, I would have been married a long time ago." You joked but suddenly felt your wrist be squeezed tightly in response.
You hadn't noticed Jotaro was still holding onto your wrist but now that you did you lightly blushed. Jotaro realised where you were looking and he quickly let go, using that hand to pull down the brim of his hat, muttering something under his breath.
"What was that?" You asked, thinking he was talking to you.
"Nothing." Was all Jotaro said, still holding his hat down.
"Oh... okay." You nodded. "Kinda curious now though." You then joked.
"Fine, I said: 'I'm glad you're not'." Jotaro confessed, looking off to the side while still hiding his face behind his hat.
"Huh? How so?" You asked, tilting your head in confusion.
Jotaro had a hard time keeping his composure as he saw you do that adorable gesture but he managed. "If you were, you never would have helped me as much as you did." He softly spoke but you heard.
"Jotaro..." You placed your hand on his arm.
"Jolyne might've never talked to you about her mother and I never would have known what she was doing."
"You blame yourself for never noticing, huh?" You held a sad yet patient smile and Jotaro finally turned his head back towards you.
"I'm her father, of course I should have noticed she wasn't okay." His tone of voice was hushed, as if he feared other people would hear if he talked louder, despite the both of you being far away from any of the other waiting parents.
"Jotaro, there are some things not even you can catch. Even with your clever intellect." You said back, poking the heart-shaped badge on his hat playfully. "This has been going on since the beginning probably. You heard Jolyne, she thought it was normal. So there was no way for you to suddenly notice Jolyne behaving differently, because there was no sudden difference in behaviour to begin with.
"You always saw the happy, cheerful Jolyne, because she loves you. You treated her like you were supposed to and thus she always seemed so happy around you. Because she was." Jotaro was listening intently, listening to every word spilling from your lips. "Don't beat yourself up over something that you had no way of knowing. Your wife clearly knew it was wrong, given how she hid it from you."
"Ex-wife." Jotaro corrected you and you looked up at him to see the corner of his mouth quirked up.
Happy to see he had taken your words to heart, you smiled. "Apologies, that one is on me." You teasingly said back. "How about, instead of focusing on that bitch's past actions, we focus on how to make Jolyne's life a little happier?"
Before you knew it, you were flicked on the side of your head and you instinctively reeled to the side, clutching your temple. "Don't curse, we're on school grounds." Jotaro slyly said and you squinted your eyes, biting back a grin as you looked at the man.
"Oh please. I don't see a child in sight." You parroted his response from before and Jotaro leaned down to be on eye level with you, a smirk on his face as your noses were only centimeters apart from touching.
"I see a rather big one. Right here, in front of me."
"Do you?" You slyly said back.
"Very much so." He leaned even closer as he said that, his eyes burning into yours with an emotion you couldn't discern.
Just then, the school bell rang loudly, signalling classes were over and children started pouring out the front doors almost immediately, clearly having been waiting for the bell on the other side.
You and Jotaro jumped apart a bit upon hearing the sudden shrill sound and stood up straight, casually waiting next to each other as if none of that just happened.
"Y/N!!" Jolyne was quick to spot her dad as she walked out the school doors, given his size and choice of clothing, but her shout of happiness came when she saw you waiting next to him. "You came!"
You quickly bent down and held your arms open for her with a happy smile, seeing her run towards you at full speed with her arms already outstretched.
The moment she reached you, she jumped up and you were taken off guard by how high she jumped, causing you to tip backwards at the sudden and unexpected weight at the top half of your body.
Jotaro was quick to step in however and caught you before you could fall backwards, wrapping one arm around your shoulders from the back and the other around your waist from the front. This caused him to accidentally join in the hug huddle, Jolyne pressed in between the two of you.
His eyes were slightly wide, same as yours, while Jolyne was still giggling happily, not realising what was going on.
Getting over the slight shock, Jotaro quickly released the arm around your waist, taking a step to the side. The arm around your shoulder lingered a little longer however but you shrugged it off on him making sure you would stay on your feet.
Your attention was quickly taken up when Jolyne started squirming in your hold. "Y/N, come on!" You put her back on her feet and she was quick to grab both your hands with hers, starting to walk backwards as she tried to pull you along. "I wanna show you what I made!"
"Okay, okay!" You laughed slightly as she quickly pulled you along, looking back over your shoulder while you were being dragged away to see a soft smile on Jotaro's face as he was slowly left behind.
"Dad! You come too!" Jolyne's shout seemed to snap him from his thoughts and he wiped the smile off his face, returning to his usual stoicism as he started taking large strides to catch up with the two of you, Jolyne still very busy dragging you along although she had now turned around so she could walk normally, still holding onto both of your hands behind her back though.
You were going to get spine problems from having to bend down to hold onto her hands but oh well. How could you protest when she was so adorably excited.
- - - -
"How about some curry tonight for dinner?" You questioned as you opened the door, stepping aside to let Jolyne in first as she cheered loudly.
"Yes, yes, yes! Is it gonna be your special one?!" She excitedly called, bouncing in place before you shooed her to the side so you and Jotaro could enter the house too, Jotaro closing the door behind him.
"You want it to be?" You asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes!"
"Hmm, I dunno." You teased, pretending to think as you placed a hand on your chin, tapping your lips as if in thought.
"Pleeeaaasseee?!" Jolyne begged, grabbing onto your leg and hanging on your pants, gently shaking the fabric back and forth under her small fists. "Daddy, help me convince Y/N!" She turned to her father before focusing back on hanging and begging on your pant leg. "Pleeeaseee, Y/N!"
Jotaro placed a hand on your shoulder and you looked back at him to see a half-smirk, half-smile on his face. "Please, Y/N." He indulged his daughter and joined in with a simple plea, making you have a hard time to hide your smile and keep up the act.
"Oh alright! You've both convinced me!" You called out, splaying your hands out as if in defeat and Jolyne cheered.
"Yay! We did it, daddy!" She went from your leg, over to her father's and hugged it for a second before rushing into the house.
"Jolyne, take your shoes off first!" Jotaro called out after her and she came to a slipping halt, turned around and ran back, took off her shoes, and was gone again. "Sometimes she has too much energy." Jotaro sighed out and you chortled a bit.
Quickly taking off your shoes, you placed them down in their place, picking up Jolyne's and placing them next to yours, standing back straight again to see Jotaro had taken off his coat and was now taking off his shoes as well, after having put Jolyne's backpack down that he had been carrying for her.
You noticed how he for once kept on his hat. Ever since he started living with you, you had taken notice of how he took off his hat at home. You never said anything of it cause it was all up to him but in all the years you knew him, you had rarely seen him taking off his hat, even indoors.
Maybe he just forgot it was till on his head this time. Oh well.
Walking down the hall back to your office, you decided to do just a little bit more work until it was time to start cooking.
About an hour later you emerged again, nearly tripping over Jolyne as she came running past right that moment, clutching a mermaid doll and blue ribbon, pretending to swim around the house with the ribbon as waves.
"Sorry!" She shouted back over her shoulder and nearly ran into a wall, turning the corner a second later as she continued going like nothing happened.
You chuckled softly as you went the other way, stepping into the kitchen. You took a few pots and pans out, rummaging through the kitchen cabinet for which size would be best to use.
"You want some help?" A voice suddenly said and you looked behind you to see Jotaro leaned against the doorframe, looking at you.
"If you want to, you don't have to." You smiled back before turning forward and hoisting the desired pan towards the stove.
"I don't mind." He walked up to you and took the pan from your hands, placing it on the right spot on the stove. "Besides, if you're ever not around and Jolyne craves your special Y/N curry, I need to know how to make it." He had a small yet sly smile on his face and you giggled softly.
"Well, put on an apron then Mr. Kujo and let's get cooking!"
"I don't need an apron." Jotaro rolled his eyes.
"Cook with me and your clothes are in danger unless you have an apron to protect you. And since you wear a lot of white, mister, it is extra necessary. ...I splash a lot." You admitted and Jotaro softly snorted through his nose, walking over to the hooks where the aprons hung and putting it over his head.
He suddenly seemed to realise he was still wearing his hat. Looking up at the brim, he hesitantly raised his hand and took hold of it, only to be interrupted when Jolyne crashed into his leg.
The girl didn't realise he was right around the corner of the doorframe and had cut the corner as close as possible, trying to go as fast as she could only to be met with thunder thighs.
The blue ribbon that was fluttering after her twisted around Jotaro's leg and tangled around the poor girl again, trapping her against her dad's leg.
"Oh, Jolyne." He sighed and leaned down, taking hold of the girl with one arm and the ribbon with the other, seemingly forgetting all about his hat.
"Sorry." Jolyne mumbled while her dad untangled her.
"Just stay out of the kitchen for a bit, we're gonna cook here." Jotaro shoo'ed her out once he had freed himself from the blue clutches and Jolyne was quick to be on her way again.
"I would have had a face full of floor if not a snapped leg." You commented suddenly and Jotaro looked up to see you trying to hold in your laugh at what just happened.
"That's cause you are a twig." Jotaro approached and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Not true!" You protested. "You're just crazy buff. Look at this overkill!" You said and swept your leg into his outer left thigh in a light kick, demonstrating your point as he didn't even flinch.
In a quick response, Jotaro grabbed your ankle, smirking as he saw your eyes widen slightly in response. With a quick move, he pulled your leg further towards himself, causing you to stumble forward and your hips crashed into his.
Given that you were still on one leg, your balance tipped backwards and for the second time that day, Jotaro caught you, his right hand on your lower back. It was technically his fault that you fell though, given that he never let go of your leg, the new, closer, position making him now hold onto your upper thigh.
Your breathing hitched for a second, your stomach pressed into Jotaro's as he held you close.
"Seeing how easily you fell from just a simple little tug, it seems you really are just a twig." Jotaro smirked as he leaned closer, his nose once again mere centimeters away from yours.
"We-we-we- uhm, we... should probably start the curry." You stuttered, feeling your cheeks burn. Jotaro was silent as he just looked at you for a few seconds longer before finally letting out a short hum, a small smirk still on his face as he let go of your leg, leaving you to place it down before he finally unwrapped his arm from your waist.
"Let's." He agreed lowly before taking a step back.
-
You had asked Jotaro to chop some vegetables while you were preparing the sauce for the curry, the rice already in the rice cooker.
"Y/N." Jotaro suddenly spoke up, still gently chopping away as you looked up at him. "You didn't send me the bill of expenses last month. Why?"
"Oh? I didn't?" You spoke out but purposefully turned back to the food, pretending to be hard at work cooking.
"Don't play dumb. You don't forget things like that so easily. Why didn't you send it." Jotaro now placed the knife back on the chopping board, turning his body around so he could lean against the counter as he crossed his arms over his chest, looking sideways at you.
"I just- I really don't think it's that important now, is it." Your tone was joke-y, trying to brush it off but Jotaro just sighed, pushing off the counter and walking towards you.
Reaching past you, he turned the burner down so that the sauce wouldn't be ruined and forced you to turn around and face him.
"Why?" Was the only thing he said as he stared into your eyes, keeping you at an arm's length.
"Because I think it is unnecessary, Jotaro." You finally admitted, sighing softly.
"Y/N, we discussed this. You're spending money on me and Jolyne and I want to pay that back. You're already letting us live here, stop spending more money on what you don't have to."
"I don't mind it, really." You put your hands on his biceps to calm him down as you saw him getting a little worked up.
"Do you really want me to mooch even more off of you?" He asked, incredulous.
"Who knows, maybe I'm trying to build a life-debt." You smiled.
"Y/N, I'm serious. Why do you keep doing all these things for me?"
"Because I like you and I like Jolyne. Don't you see? I care for you both." You said but then sighed softly. "Jotaro, you are my oldest friend. we've known each other for thirteen odd years now. We've been through hell and back and you've saved my life multiple times. I don't give a shulk about spending some money." You automatically replaced the swear word, it having become almost a second nature when at home since Jolyne was usually somewhere around.
Jotaro seemed tired and he just closed his eyes, pulling you a little closer as he placed his forehead on the top of your head and sighed out deeply. He either didn't realise what he was doing or he didn't care, but you were wide eyed as you stood face to face with his chest. You took note on how often he had kept you close to him today. Small touches here and there or bigger ones like this. Maybe he was touch starved or maybe he was tired, he sure did seem it.
"Y/N, you shouldn't have to take responsibility like that." His voice was soft as he spoke up, barely above a whisper.
You didn't dare move as the man leaned on you, just letting him deflate for a bit yet still answering in an equally soft voice. "Jotaro, I've got a good job but I am only one person. What am I gonna do with all the money?"
"Buy books, take a vacation, save for retirement. There's plenty of things." He spoke as if it was obvious. Which, maybe it was.
"They're not as necessary though." You smiled softly, even if he couldn't see.
"If you're not going to do those things, I will." He suddenly spoke as he lifted his head, holding you out again by your shoulders.
"What?" You looked up at him only to start a little at the uncharacteristically soft look on his face, a small smile playing on his lips.
"You've always been stubborn. And if you insist to keep refusing to send that bill, I'll just have to pay you back in different ways."
"You don't even know what things I want though." You teased and Jotaro sent you a warning look.
"I'll find a way to figure it out."
"Okay, do I need to be afraid?"
"Maybe." Jotaro smirked as he stepped away from you, letting go of your shoulders and walking back over to his spot at the counter where he picked up the knife, turning his head slightly to smirk at you before bringing the knife back down onto the chopping board, picking up where he left off.
- - - -
"Food, food, food, food, foodfoodfood." You softly sang in a made up melody under your breath as you set the table, Jotaro still stirring the curry for the last needed minutes per your order.
"Is the food done?!" Jolyne suddenly popped up out of nowhere, scaring the living daylights out of you as you jumped and let out a small scream, nearly throwing the cutlery in your hand.
"Good lord, Jolyne!" You exclaimed while Jolyne laughed loudly, clearly very proud of herself for scaring you like that, even if it wasn't intentional. You on the other hand, just placed the cutlery down on the table before leaning on the back of one of the chairs, groaning loudly as you tried to settle your racing heart. "Just go ahead and take a seat." You said to the girl, shaking your head a bit as you stood up straight again and finished setting up the table.
Pretty soon, the plates all had food in them and you put some drinks down, Jotaro brushing past you as he went to place the plates on the table.
"And voila! Special curry a la Jotaro and Y/N." You grinned as Jotaro placed the plates on the table, rolling his eyes good naturedly before sitting down.
You smiled and followed his lead, Jotaro sitting at the head of the table with Jolyne to his right while you sat to his left.
"Thank you for the food!" You said in unison (some more enthusiastic than others).
It was about a minute into dinner when Jolyne looked up at her dad and down at her plate, only to look up at him again with big eyes, almost as if she did a double-take.
She then turned her head back forward to face you again, though she kept her head down, anxiously glancing up at you every two seconds.
"Is something wrong, Jolyne?" You asked once you noticed. She stiffened a bit in her seat and your brows furrowed in worry. You glanced at Jotaro and crossed eyes with him but he seemed just as confused.
Jolyne then looked at her dad, her eyes gliding to the top of his head and Jotaro looked up, seeing the brim of his hat. He still had his hat on. Understanding why she was acting this way, he quickly took it off, setting it next to him on the table and Jolyne glanced back at you, seeing you just with the same confused yet calm look, making her visibly relax.
You were confused but Jotaro sent you a subtle sign to leave it for now, that he would explain later, and the rest of dinner went off without a hitch.
- - - -
It was a few hours later now and you were practically dead on the couch, the book you were reading just splayed open and laying half on your face - half on your chest.
Jotaro had just put Jolyne back to bed again after she had woken up and shuffled out to find him in his room - him now walking from her room over to the main room. The lights were dimmed, only a few lamps still burning while the majority of the room was shrouded in darkness. One of the lamps still on was the one hanging above the dining table, casting a dim light on it that illuminated a familiar shape.
Seeing his hat still sitting on the dining table, he picked it up before walking further, rounding the couch to see you lying on it, one leg splayed over the backrest and one arm hanging off, the book you had been reading covering your face and probably squishing your nose.
The marine biologist exhaled slowly in amusement as he saw you lying there like that. Putting his hat on the low coffee table that stood next to the couch, he went to stand beside you, gently grasping your leg and putting it in a normal position, doing the same for your arm as he then grabbed a blanket you always stored nearby, covering your body with it.
Last but not least, he grabbed the book from your face, seeing your bookmark on the coffee table and placing it between the pages before gently setting it down.
His eyes slowly drifted to your sleeping form and now that the book was off of you, he leaned down and lifted the blanket just a bit higher, tucking it around your shoulders before picking up his hat again and walking past you, sitting down in the chair adjacent to the couch.
He softly sighed through his nose, running a hand over his face as he put his elbows on his knees and bent forward.
He just stared at the hat between his hands for a while, the warm light from the lamp to his right illuminating that part of his form as his thoughts raced. Jotaro didn't know how long he sat there like that, the only noise really audible being your soft yet rhythmic breathing.
The badges glimmered in the light and he gently ran his thumb over it, his mind in a totally different place.
"If you think too hard you're gonna get wrinkles early, you know."
Your sudden voice made him slowly raise his head, his eyes meeting your groggy ones as a tired smile was splayed on your face.
"I've been thinking my whole life. Haven't got them yet."
"That's the mentality of a man who is pushing his luck." You chuckled lowly, leaning your head on your hand as you averted your gaze down to the hat in his hands. "By the way, I meant to ask, what was that whole thing about with your hat at dinner? I don't want to pry, but..." You trailed off a bit, looking back up to his face.
Jotaro had been tracing his eyes over your face as you spoke, now finally looking back into your eyes as you looked at him. "My ex-wife never wanted me to wear it in the house." He simply said and you furrowed your brows.
"Why?"
"Don't ask me." He sighed out as he stood up, walking over to the couch you were on. "Move. Sit up." He then said as he stopped right in front of you, flipping his hand up a few times to urge you to do it.
Your tired and still groggy ass did as he said and he sat down behind you, pulling you back down so that you were now laying on his lap; propped up in a half-sitting position, your head being held up by his arm.
"Oh, you're kinda comfy." You muttered, closing your eyes as you situated yourself a little more, earning a small snort from the man.
"Am I?"
"Mhm." You hummed before taking the hat from his hand that was resting on your stomach. You lifted your arms and placed the thing back on his head. "If you want to wear your hat; wear it." You softly spoke, that still tired smile playing on your lips. "I noticed you forgot to take it off today but you have to do what you want to do. You like wearing your hat, it was wrong of your ex to want to take it away from you."
"Maybe. But you saw Jolyne. She was terrified you would get mad at me for it."
"Then we just need to find a way to make her okay with it." Jotaro looked off to the side, a little conflicted and you placed your hand on his cheek, making him look at you again. "Jotaro, it's toxic things like this that we have to flush out. It may be small but it festers. So let's yank it out of your lives completely so that both you and Jolyne can move on, okay?"
Jotaro stayed silent but you saw a confirmation in his eyes and he barely noticeably nodded. His aquamarine gaze was gently tracing your face and you realised you still had your hand on his cheek.
The moment you went to take it off however, Jotaro placed his own over yours, keeping your hand pressed on his cheek.
"..."
Neither of you said anything, just sitting in silence as you looked at each other, yet your heart started beating a little faster, feeling his bigger hand encasing yours and the muscles of his jaw clench slightly.
You hadn't been this close to Jotaro in a long time, usually going out of your way to give him his space. But here he was. Holding you in his arms and close to him. Your heart was absolutely hammering out of your chest now, having gradually built up the longer the silence lingered; you definitely were wide awake now.
Slowly, Jotaro started to lean down.
"Jo-?" You softly started only to be interrupted.
"Hush, Y/N." He whispered.
Leaning his head sideways a little so the brim of his hat wouldn't get in the way, he continued leaning down further, his lips now ghosting over yours. His eyes were staring deeply into yours, a longing burning in them as he searched for any hesitation in you.
He didn't see any, and he slowly removed his hand from yours, instead placing it on your cheek as he pulled you that last bit closer, bridging the gap and pressing his lips to yours.
Your stomach twisted into a knot as he kissed you, but for once, it felt good.
His lips moved against yours, Jotaro pressing down firmly against your mouth as he shifted your body into his in a way that his chest lay against yours.
His heart was sporadically beating and you could feel your own missing a few beats, matching the pace of his, if not going even faster. Jotaro kept his lips on yours, softly sucking on your bottom lip as he kept in rhythm with you, gently brushing his thumb over your cheekbone as he couldn't seem to get enough of your taste, wanting to pull you even closer if that was possible.
When just that didn't work, he positioned his hand with his thumb under your chin, pushing it up so he could deepen the kiss, his lips moving with yours in a deliciously addicting way, one he never wanted to end.
When he finally moved back after a bit, the two of you were out of breath, panting slightly as Jotaro kept the tip of his nose touching yours. You felt his breath softly fan across your face, his eyes focused completely on you before he closed them and leaned down once more.
His lips softly pressed into yours, a sweet and short kiss that he broke two seconds later, only to go back in again, and again, and again. Never seeming to get enough.
His kisses were making you dizzy, clouding your mind. You never thought you'd be here with Jotaro; with him seeing you like you saw him. But here he was, kissing you and breaking apart, only to keep going back in for more.
Your hand slid from his jaw to the back of his neck, your fingers running through the hair resting there, gently scratching when he attacked your lips again with another kiss.
This one lasted longer, Jotaro firmly pressing against you again as his hand mirrored yours, moving to the back of your neck as he softly ran his finger over the skin behind your ear.
Even when you attempted to pull back for air, Jotaro followed for a second, not wanting to break the kiss until he relinquished after all, knowing he probably should.
You were breathing heavily, trying to get some air back in your lungs while Jotaro lowered his head to rest in the crook of your neck, his hat sticking out perfectly over your shoulder as he softly pecked the skin of your neck, innocently placing featherlight kisses on it.
After a minute, he raised his head again, silently letting his eyes glide over you as you sat before him right now, a loving look displayed in his gaze.
And then he finally spoke. The words you had been hoping and longing to hear for years, finally uttered as he sat with you on your couch, one side of his face illuminated by a warm orange light from the lamp across the room while the other side was swallowed up in the shadows.
"I love you, Y/N." He paused for a second, as if taking in the fact that he actually finally said that, before continuing. "I know you are too good for me but if you'll have me..." You shushed him by pushing your lips to his.
That was all he needed and he lifted you in his arms, turning you two around on the couch and putting you down on it, never breaking the kiss as he hovered over you, pressing his body as close to yours as he could.
He had both his hands cupping your face now, pulling the back of your neck up a little as he then let his right hand glide down to sit on your waist, squeezing slightly as he kept his body glued to yours, continuously kissing you.
The two of you finally broke apart after a while, yet Jotaro didn't seem in a hurry to get up, seemingly content with how the both of you were positioned now.
You let your eyes wander his face, openly able to stare for the first time and taking full use of it, seeing his plump lips slightly swollen from continuous use, a blush on his face, running from one cheek, over the ridge of his nose, to the other cheek, barely visible in the dim light but still there. And from there, your eyes glided up to his hat and the stubborn little curl that always peeked out from underneath it.
An idea suddenly hit you and you opened your mouth before smiling a bit as Jotaro gave you a questioning look, urging you to speak your thoughts.
"I think I might have an idea on how to make Jolyne okay with wearing hats in the house again."
- - - -
"Y/N?" Jolyne said in confusion as you came across her in the hall.
"Yes?"
"Why are you wearing daddy's hat?"
"Because I wanted to." You smiled and she tilted her head in confusion. "Don't you think I look cool?" You did a few poses and Jolyne giggled, still a little confused. "I like wearing his hat. It's a nice hat, don't you agree?" You questioned and Jolyne nodded, a little in awe. About a second later, Jotaro walked into the room, also wearing his hat and Jolyne gasped.
"THERE'S MORE HATS? I WANNA WEAR DADDY'S HAT TOO!!"
She ran over to Jotaro's leg and hung on it. Begging him to let her wear a hat too. Jotaro was quick to pick her up and suddenly pulled a third hat out of seemingly nowhere. "Then let's all wear hats today." He spoke as he plopped it on the little girl's head.
Jolyne excitedly gasped and her little hands shot up to hold the hat, feeling how it sat on her head. "Even inside?" Her eyes sparkled.
"Especially inside." Jotaro booped the brim of his hat into Jolyne's and the gigantic smile that appeared on her face was enough to brighten up the entire week.
The rest of the day was filled with a lot of hat boops, whenever any of you passed each other.

i think giorno would be a good parent tbh, and mista would be a good dad too
I mean, I agree, sure, but just because they would probably make good parents, doesn’t mean either of them have interest in acting on that.
Mista has some goofy dad energies, but he doesn’t want to have any kids of his own. I think he might go back to hang around his old foster home from time to time, and has some real fun uncle energies with the kids there.
Giorno, meanwhile, is something of a friendly neighborhood gangster (like that time he got ice cream from that kid on the streets in the beginning of VA), but he has absolutely *no* interest in having kids of his own for a variety of reasons.
I think the two of them really do have that cool uncle thing going on. Giorno visits the foster home along with Mista a few times, and tends to bring some pretty lavish gifts for birthdays and holidays, so the kids fucking love it whenever Mista and “Mista’s really pretty boyfriend” show up.
Additionally, if Giorno ever figured out about Jolyne, he’d be thrilled. She likes butterflies? Okay, he’s gonna make a shit ton of butterflies and have a few of them land on her so she can just absolutely lose her tiny mind.
But, again, none of the Bucci gang, including Giorno and Mista, have any interest in having their own children. This is a hill I’m willing to die on.
Now I’m just imagining Giorno and Mista hanging out with little Jolyne and Giorno helping to do her hair. Jotaro is still not exactly a fan of Giorno, but... he appreciates how utterly delighted Giorno is able to make Jolyne with shit like the butterfly stunt.

Character meme. DIOOOOO and jotarized
oh he he he oh hoho ok thank you :imbaby:
these are gonna be long fair warning. u picked two top faves so i’ll talk forever
we will do Dio first
Favorite thing about them: I think my favorite thing abt him is. well besides He Sexy, his like flair?? idk he’s so dramatic and talks and stands weird and does weird things and i think that’s pretty neat
Least favorite thing about them: WELL he’s a pretty shitty person lol. he does many bad things but 2 pick one....his flagrant disrespect for life in general. like. he just kills animals and ppl for no reason. that’s not good, Dio, stop that
Favorite line: ah he says a lot of funky iconic things. ig it’s not a line but is it too cheesy to pick WRYYYYYYYYY? bc i’m picking that. it never fails to make me laugh bc like what the fuck. he’s just makin those noises. go ahead you rabid gay vampire
Random headcanon: this one might count as an unpopular opinion as well since i’ve seen how ppl react to this headcanon BUT i hc him as aroace. yes he fucks to survive but did he feel any sort of attraction to those many, many people? absolutely not. he fucks to fuck and that is all. i will die on this hill
Unpopular opinion: i think high Dio (short hair Dio) is the ugliest version of him. idk if this is unpopular but short hair does Not suit Dio, at all
Song I associate with them: OK this is kinda unoriginal since i got it from an AMV about him BUT Oh No! by Marina and the Diamonds is a Dio song. here’s the AMV it’s really good
Favorite picture of them: Hard choice! he is very sexy. i’ll go with this panel from Stone Ocean, though
Tumblr media
now for Jotaro :3c
Favorite thing about them: ohhhh god i have to pick huh. OK i thought of one thing: i love that he canonically has a soft spot for kids. like if people hurt kids he gets REALLY mad and he’s generally just got a dad vibe when he has to take care of kids. love the protective dad energy
Least favorite thing about them: i love him with my entire heart so i don’t hate anything abt him BUT i really do wish he handled raising Jolyne better. i understand the canon reasons and i know it’s completely in character for him to think that not being there is the best way to protect her but please,,,, be there for her, sir
Favorite line: ok i really love a lot of his stupid one-liners in stardust crusaders lmao. i think my favorite was when Dark Blue Moon’s user tried to predict what he was thinking about and then after he defeated him he was like “Nope. What I was thinking was... [dramatic turn] If you pissed yourself when you lost, it’d be gross since we’re in the water, old man.” like how iconic. he thinks he’s so cool. i love him
Random headcanon: ok i finally thought of an original headcanon of mine: he has his hands in his pockets all the time even when it seems inconvenient (like. when he’s about to fight Dio, for example) because he’s Incredibly Uncomfortable if he’s not doing something with or holding something in his hands and putting them in his pockets is a way to conveniently alleviate that AND look cool and chill at the same time
Unpopular opinion: idk how unpopular this is But i’m okay with the fact that his marriage to his wife was never developed? like she’s not given any characteristics other than “good mother” and considering that she doesn’t even have a name and that Jotaro never even mentions caring about her when he talks about caring for Jolyne,,, idk i don’t find myself longing to see what their relationship was like since i don’t think there was much there
Song I associate with them: ok i just decided this on the spot BUT.... thinkin about the lyrics a lil...... Interlude by EDEN. especially “so i push it back down cuz i never wanna let out that i’ve been dying since i saw you were gone”.... sad cat face....might go draw some sad fanart to this song....
Favorite picture of them: hm ok another hard one bc Jotaro’s top notch character design and Araki’s beautiful art style combine very often to form some Excellent pieces that are very visually appealing..... i’ll go with This One from Stone Ocean though...... i realize perhaps i’m just a bit of a slut for the Stone Ocean art style lmao

💚Alright, it is once again time for some extreme dadtaro brainrot you guys. I guess you can call it headcannons of mine💙
Tumblr media
First of all, Jotaro would 100% use this on Jolyne:
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CaE-S_mBHEs/?utm_medium=copy_link
He accidentally got soap into her eyes one time when still using his hands to shield her face and became absolutely mortified because of it. So now he doesn’t have to worry! Plus she also looks a bit like Triton from the little mermaid and Jolyne just pretends she’s a mermaid queen so it’s a win win.
Secondly, Jotaro is weak to this girl. I know canon and most fics will show Jotaro too busy with work and all that, but to me it’s those rare fics where he’s not >:3
Jolyne wants to play dress up? Jotaro is there as her formal assistant and judge(everything looks good on her unless she clearly wants him to say it doesn’t) he might even get something shoved on his head.
Jolyne wanders into his office while he’s working? If she promises to be quiet, he will pick her up and set her on his lap, maybe show off some (pictures of)animals if he is working on them at that time. Or let her play with toys as she sits on his lap, having a little space cleared out in front of him for her that he works around. Is it inconvenient? Yes, but by gosh if he doesn’t do everything for this girl.
Jolyne wants to paint his nails? He has his hand out for her while he sips a cup of tea or coffee. No argument, no protests. She can paint them bubblegum pink or entirely miss the nail and he will still patiently sit through it all and wear it until it starts to chip (or she wants to put a different on)
He is weak to her, and will do anything for his little girl.
Thirdly! Jotaro absolutely loves being in the kitchen with Jolyne. It reminds him of him and his mom. How he learned to cook because he was always in the kitchen with her, wanting to help and just spend time with her. And Holly being Holly was always so so excited and open to have Jotaro help, just explaining everything she did and so teaching Jotaro everything she knew.
It means so so much to him to now do that with Jolyne. Even though he doesn’t always cook and oftentimes when he does, Jolyne is off doing her own thing, whenever she does join him, his heart absolutely melts.
Lastly and most importantly, this has been on my brain for the last three weeks and I’m finally sharing it: I absolutely believe Jotaro sings lullaby’s for Jolyne when she goes to bed if she feels bad or sad, and this is the one he sings.
Just picture it with a liiitle bit of a deeper voice and you cannot convince me this is not him.
https://youtu.be/JqPycSCLS2c
youtube
It’s so sweet, and exactly the type of song I think he would sing to her. I love it so so much >.<
Ok, thank you for listening to my rambles. Have an awesome day ❤️
