I finally got to write formal professional reports again. It's a sort of RFP sort of functional outline. It's not NEARLY as formal as the ones we did in grad school and wouldn't be up to snuff for literally any proper organization, but my workplace does so much stuff slapdash and disorganized and it drives me insane. I am the model of a would-be burecrat. I love paperwork. Forms. Rules. Reports. It needs to be organized if it's going to be EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT.
Anyway for this report I basically got free reign bc no one else knows what I'm talking about or how to do it. And it's just??? Such a relief and a delight to 1) get to do things properly 2) get to be competent, and be SEEN as being comptent, and not just a recent grad bumbling around trying to catch up in a workplace that doesn't follow ANY regular rules or protocols and is just. So disorganized.
Like. Given very little sleep and recovering from mild food poisoning, I've been more productive in 3 hours than I am in a lot of full days. It's like being in school again. Competence. Fully outlined and clear, reasonable goals. A PURPOSE.
I should just be given full control of everything as the benevolent dictator of my department, but alas

like. if you need to observe people peeing in a cup, at least you could set up the surveillance in a way that doesn't require them to stand sideways to a toilet while holding their feet uncomfortably close together, that shouldn't be that difficult

I still never solidified my Halloween headcanons for my fantrolls
I feel like Alternian Halloween has got some kind of relevance to the undead and ghosts of Alternia
But I don't know what? Is it a common day for mass hoards of zombies to encroach on living cities? Is the day especially long and the undead are more powerful? Are ghosts able to cross over back to the living realm? Are people more likely to become undead if their corpse is still around that night? Or did one dude exist in the past, Mr. Hallowse Evennynn who was just a necromancer that targeted people, especially during this time of year? I don't know.
I feel like for the living of Alternia there's like...
Parties are common, originally stemming from a 'safety in numbers' standpoint where people would barricade themselves from the undead on this particular day, but now it's just about the fun of having parties or still staying safe from people doing 'tricks',
Dressing up like the undead to 'fool them' so you don't get eaten, or as a mockery of the past or to trick people into thinking they're going to get eaten by zombies (this does sound like something that highblood wrigglers would be encouraged to do, potentially with high levels of actual violence, a trick or treat but the treat is that you survive...)

Started watching The Wire again bc I'd dropped it a year ago or so due to not really getting it, and this time around I'm a lot more invested
#fitiaposting#I don't know if it's just a case of me not getting a lot of the slang and cultural references and legal jargon being used but I get the#impression that the dialogue is very euphemized#Like you have to do a lot of reading between the lines because in many instances characters don't ever say things directly#And the characters that DO require things to be spelt out to them in-universe are portrayed as a bit stupid or naive#Which is very interesting considering the setting of post-9/11 America + the war on drugs and the gangs in the drug trade meaning the huge#emphasis on constant surveillance#Which feels unnecessary to say bc well. it's obvious lol. the show's called The Wire.#Anyways I AM getting it a lot more this time around and it's fun! I've gotten fond of some characters#I'm on ep9 of season 1 and my current review is literally all the white characters are irritating

It was rare for him to settle down fully, to truly let his mind rest. There was no denying that Henry's presence had a hand in it, that the quiet moment of accepted affection eased a tired, busy head. He often felt he had to scratch and claw for these moments; not this time. This time, Henry's head resting atop his earned audible breath. Relief, plain and simple.
His gaze drifting easily to where their hands rested, middle finger dragging light patterns over palm and underside of knuckles. There was a heart somewhere in there, quickly left behind among other shapes. Made William feel too much like a teenager again, fawning over some crush, doodling in notebooks. Henry's agreement tugged him away from the concern.
A small smile caught his lips, unbidden and unseen. "Good. I'll make my famous casserole." He chuckled to himself at that. Only famous among his kids, really. It didn't tend to survive twenty-four hours. He was a decent cook—consequence of needing to feed three children by himself. ( Touch-and-go, at the start. ) "You won't want to leave once you've had a taste."
The words, the hand at his thigh—he drew himself away just enough to meet Henry's eyes. And there, a rare glimpse of sincerity, not a hint of performance in place. Any resentment neatly tucked away before he had ever sat down with Henry. Pure, unfiltered adoration—perhaps a touch too much. He caught himself biting his tongue, trapping a confession behind teeth. He wouldn't risk losing this moment. Not yet.
Instead, he reached out, light touch guiding Henry in so that William could slot their lips together. Soft, brief. As close to a confession as he could get, thumb stroking across Henry's cheek before eyelashes fluttered closed again and he pressed a couple more kisses to Henry's mouth. Then, sat back only enough rest his head back against Henry's shoulder, content sigh leaving him. Finally, the curve of a smile.
"You're making me feel like a lucky man."

Addiction is weirdly cathartic to write because I rarely ever look so forward to ripping someone to shreds using their heart to farm the pain.
Gyokko has irked me in ways nobody can really do. I like the idea of taking him down a few notches.

UGH. AND THIS ISN'T EVEN GETTING INTO LEGAL ISSUES THAT REQUIRE YOU TO HAVE TECHNOLOGY#my grandparents literally rely on their children - and entrust a LOT of their information to their children. which HAS been used against#them - to manage some of their legal & important shit because it's only through websites or texting & calling services and it's soo#it's so fucked up. i hate how it feels like a requirement these days i hate how much is being transferred to digital platforms#instead of something physical and real. you're just losing SO much and it's. ughh

i feel like stranger things is going to go through exactly what marvel went through once they release their final season
#legal talks#like the way that marvel finished their big movie series and then within months people were realising how much it sucked as a whole?#same thing is going to happen with stranger things i think#people will acknowledge that season 1 and 2 were great but they'll realise that the rest of it kinda sucked#like... something something marvel films were created as such a tightly bound series of films that unless you watched all the previous#'episodes' they were largely inaccessible to viewers. a marked difference from the old marvel films that used cameos and references as#easter eggs rather than requiring the level of investment from all viewers that you would get from a television show#vs stranger things progressively making each season more and more like a 7-8 hour movie instead of a tv show and completely avoiding the#beats and pacing of television shows and encouraging that binge-watching movie-like experience#im probably not saying anything of value but like....

What's new(ish) in the settler-colonial state of the US is that a series of bills have been passed in the House (the Baby Senate as I like to say) and are on their way to the Senate that make it harder to voice support for Palestinians while also making sure your direct taxes aid the genocide in Gaza.
These bills affirm the US's stance on the settler-colonial Zionist Entity and the implicit ties that the government has with Israel and really — just goes to show you how Israel is just one big base for American Imperialism.
Anyways, there's still time to call your senate and tell them that you don't want these bills that only further spiral the US into fascism so even if you think it might not do much — it's important that we document our dissent in official sources. And while you're at it — call your congressperson and tell them that if they voted for this you're not voting for them next election. If they voted against the bills, still call your congresspeople and tell them you support their decision to vote against these bills.

Someone on my idpol post put in the tags “I DO think cis people should tell everyone they are cis tho.” I don’t! I don’t think cis people should need to disclose it. I don’t think straight people need to disclose that. I don’t think anyone should be forced to reveal their gender and sexuality labels no matter what they are, actually!
“It’s bare minimum as an ally” It’s not!!!! They’re not required. They don’t have to. It’s not that they “should”, they very much should not unless they want to. Straight trans people exist, that you desperately want to “out” as an ally and not a member. Questioning people who haven’t made a decision and default to “straight” or “cis” shouldn’t be forced to reveal themselves to you.
A well-meaning asshole in one of my zoom classes once approached me for being one of the only people who didn’t add pronouns to my name and suggested I add pronouns to “show (I’m) an ally.” Buddy, not only am I trans, I am so trans that I was struggling so deeply to distinguish what pronouns I wanted to use, after changing them in the past, and not only use but use in a legal professional setting.
The absence of pronouns wasn’t an absence of support, it was keeping a private struggle private until I knew how I wanted to be addressed. The most bland ass cishet looking motherfucker in the world could be grappling with an identity so complex it would make you puke, OR they could be cishet and it would be equally none of your business until they decided to disclose.
